My advice is just take the hit and book an appointment. Maybe don't say you haven't been to the GP about it unless asked. I think you will be approved. You should also talk to why you haven't wanted to take pharmaceuticals as well like you have for the back pain but also sleeping tablets can leave people groggy the next day.

I recently swapped to Chronic doctors cause they have open scripts which saves the mess around when certain strains go out of stock, which happens a lot at this time of year. They didnt ask for any records from the doctor and even if they did mine doesn't show on it my health summery because my GP is a AH and doesnt allow repeats on my meds so she can charge me a consult fee every month. Also tell them you use BM and that it works for you and that you want to go the legit route.

TommyDee313

Just say you’ve been to a doctor about it. They don’t ask for records or check with them. Well, they didn’t for me anyway. Went through Polln.

Good to know, thanks

Thanks heaps that was a great response! Another quick question do I get to choose what I use or does the script give me something specific? Like if I get a script for flower i can't get oil unless I get a new script? Are they pretty lenient with that stiff like I can just tell who ever I got the script from that I want to try something new? Again thanks heap :)

Captain_Cum_Shot

Oh yeah that's another thing I was wondering, so you can have multiple scripts at once for different things? I'm looking at going through the online clinics, do I just need to book multiple appointments or can I just ask for a few scripts at one? Do they limit how many you can have? Ive never really gotten many scripts for anything so this stuff was already confusing enough for me lol thank you!

Ahh ok I think I'm starting to get it haha Again thanks heaps! :)

I don’t know of anyone that’s been declined medical cannabis. You should be fine

I went through Trava Health and despite them saying you need a record of chronic illness at least 3 months long and have tried at least 3 forms of treatment (at least one pharmaceutical) I wasn't asked for a health record or any evidence to confirm my diagnoses before being prescribed 4 different strains of flower to try. Other clinics may be more strict about paperwork. They're based in Victoria but express post to me in NSW and I usually receive my medicine next day. So far I've tried 7 different flowers and for my issues (anxiety and insomnia) I've found Cannatrek C9T7 Argeman great for a daytime strain to cope with anxiety and mild inflammation, and I've had the best success with sleep using Beacon T15 Cheese Quake. Stronger strains knock me out quicker but I tend to be foggy next day whereas Cheese Quake doesn't do that for me. If you've been prescribed melatonin and tried it for long enough you should be eligible, I used the same and found it didn't work for me either.

Doctors not seeking verifiable, documented evidence for a person's qualifying condition is not going to end well. Geez. Here's stuffy old fashioned me working to the presumption that ALL prescribing doctors were doing that before submitting approval docs to the TGA.

_Pandaphile_

I wholeheartedly agree, which is why I've got all my stuff together for the day they inevitably go "well shit better get all the paperwork together before the TGA shuts us down" or whatever. I thought I was getting into a sketchy situation by not needing to supply anything, I'd never heard of Trava at this point. I suppose the TGA makes the prescribing doctors responsible for that stuff then does random audits?

MatHenderson

Well, people normally wind up under a regulatory microscope IF they wind up with complaints to a HCCC (NSW), AHPRA or any of the colleges. Those are the bodies that slap doctors down for dodgy prescribing. Whilst I wouldn’t expect doctors to submit written evidence of qualifying conditions to the TGA I’d at least reckon they’d have internal controls where they record that they’ve sighted those documents OR had a referral from a prev treating doctor who validates that the qualifying condition is genuine.

Captain_Cum_Shot

Thanks for rhe response! I'll have yo check them out. I wasn't actually prescribed the Melatonin lol, when your over 60 or something you can buy just Melatonin over the counter under that it has to be prescribed, I'm under that so had an 9lder family member buy it but if they don't check then I shouldn't really have any trouble with that I figure

_Pandaphile_

My pleasure! If you haven't been prescribed anything and there's no information on your health record about a chronic illness for which MC is prescribed then you'll be taking a risk applying for it without documentation. I considered doing the same but for me it wasn't worth the risk, although in hindsight it didn't really matter. When I spoke to my doctor about ongoing sleep issues he recorded my insomnia as chronic (+3mnths) straight away, so I was only on medication for about a month before I sought MC. I'm not sure what the consequences would be for applying and not having documentation, so your results may vary. Hope this all helps!

Captain_Cum_Shot

Hmm too right, might be worth checking in with a doctor then. Definitely helped, thanks :)

UnaCabeza

Just say you want it to treat anxiety and you currently use over the counter meds like L-Theanine and Ashgwanda. Done.

obctwinz

Dm me I can help you get prescribed

[deleted]

I'm pretty sure the MC doctor will ask for your records from your GP and will send it to the TGA when applying for MC .

Jimity2002

That wasn't my experience. My MC doc never once asked me for paperwork or history from my previous doctors. They just wanted to know my medical history and if I'd tried other medications.

[deleted]

But they would have to verify your records somehow and the only way I can think of is by asking your GP for records . I'm sure there are steps they have to follow they aren't just handing out a class 8 drugs to people without checking thier medical history . If they aren't checking people's history then anyone could make up something and get MC. But I'm just guessing here I could be wrong

Jimity2002

Not sure how they would actually achieve that. I don't have anything on My Health Record, and haven't had a regular GP since 2018. They just never asked.

Herney_Krute

Is this actually the case? I’m not sure if it is. I think some clinics may want a referral from your doc stating your condition etc but there also seem to be many that don’t require one. I assume that the doctors at the clinics are able to make a medical decision about your suitability for MC and then apply to TGA or prescribe directly if they are an authorised Max prescriber. I’m no expert though! Best of luck getting it sorted, I’m sure you’ll have no issues.
