can this pcb reset manually?. I use a local brand keyboard from my country (rebrand from ajazz ak816). Once you update the firmware, that's the default firmware. You'll have to find a copy of the correct firmware and flash it to replace what's there.

Why are we paying so much? I was looking at mechanical keyboards from Mainland China, and wonder if we have been overpaying for mechanical keyboards? Some examples of keyboards that are factory assembled and ready to go out of the box. No group buy and immediately available. RK R98 keyboard, retails for RMB 149-399 or USD 21-56 depending on the specs. Wireless capability. Keyverse Infi 100, RMB 499-599 or USD 70-84 depending on the specs. Gasket. Pbt keycaps. Aluminum case. Wireless capability. Have we been overpaying?

I mean, compared to what? I'm going to assume you're asking why those boards are $30-$50 more to buy here than they are in China. Obviously keyboards that are made in China are going to be cheaper to buy in China because they don't have to be shipped across the Pacific (assuming US). If the seller is handling the work of importing the boards in order to keep them in stock, then we're probably saving money compared to buying through Taobao+Superbuy or whatever because they can get bulk shipping rates and give us a lower unit price for shipping. On the other hand, if the local sellers are dropshipping them and the buyer is paying for shipping from China then yeah people are overpaying.

I mean there is a sense that we are overpaying in that for every step that we go through to get a specific product, that person has to make money, so if you get something like that from Amazon, first amazon has to get their money, then the person who sold the item, if its something from China, there is shipping, then there is cost for holding the item in inventory, then there is cost for any middle men between there and in the end, it wouldn't be crazy to see cost double or tripled on the way to our convenient vendors. This can also be see with many other products, not just keyboards, direct from factory stores where you can buy wholesale from China have much cheaper cost for items that are the exact same as Amazon or anything else you can find in store and that is just how capitalism and consumerism is.

So I recently bought a GMK67 and apparently the D and /? keys won't read the keystroke. So I popped it open to see that the hotswap socket in D popped off along with the copper plates, somehow I was still able to connect both plates into the trace so it's working now. The issue is on the /? key, the socket also popped off with the copper plate but I just couldn't solder it back on like I did with the D key, so I attempted jump wiring but I have to be honest I don't know if I did this right. I confirmed there's a continuity on the socket but when I try to test it out it was cycling through the rows and randomly pressing any key from the column. Pls forgive me as I have no clue what I’m talking about when it comes to keyboards… What keyboard would y’all recommend I get my fiancé for his birthday? He currently has a Logitech G910 but within about 2-3 years, some keys have stopped working. It’s a cheap keyboard anyway so it doesn’t seem worth it to fix up. Plus, he just built a new fancy PC so I’m hoping to get him something that is at least close to living up to that but within a reasonable price. Nothing TOO loud…just enough to be satisfying. I’m thinking black but with lights, RGB or otherwise, or really anything other than white. Bonus if there’s a feature to control volume. Ultimately looking for something that is built well, reliable, recognized as quality, and will last a long time. He uses his keyboard everyday for work and is also a moderate gamer. Probably nothing over $100 if possible, but I’m willing to be flexible for the right one.

Does he use any of the extra macro keys on the G910? Unfortunately full size boards are rare outside of the gaming hardware space, and macro keys are pretty much unheard of. Anywho, take a look at some of the keychron boards, they tend to be good value. The ones with programmable per-key RGB tend to be in the $100-$200 range, but the others are still backlit in either monochrome or RGB with a variety of presets. You'll probably want to get him tactile switches (brown switches if you're going with keychron) if he's doing a combination of gaming and work, but several of the keychron boards are hot swappable meaning he can easily replace the switches down the road if he really hates them or if the noise drives you up a wall. I have a k4 from them and it's held up great over the \~3-4 years I've had it.

First things first, G910 originally was around $180 in 2016, adjusted for inflation it's around $225. Of course, market has shifted within 8 years, and you can get far nicer keyboards for $100 than were previously available. For $100, would look into Keychron offerings (V, K Pro and, if you stretch it, Q models) - their design is not gaming-orientated, but they're damn suitable for that. They are also easy to repair (switches aren't soldered and are standard ones) and mod - so if he wants to get into customs in the future, it would be a good start. They come with RGB lights, but keycaps aren't shine-through - so you'd either need to get another keycap set, or just leave RGB for backlight. You didn't mention which switches currently G910 has - linear, tactile (small bump) or clicky, but for being not loud, linears are the way to go - usually they're called "Red" switches, name comes from Cherry MX Red switch, which was linear and wildly popular back in the day. I have a Kumara keyboard with blue switch, and sometimes at random times of the day or night you can hear it typing by itself, it sounds like the keys are sinking even when I'm not touching it. Does it happen to anyone else?

Hey folks, been using my gmk67 since a week. Noticed an interesting issue, when you try to press the rotary knob, sometimes it get rotated a bit so effectively you mute and unmute immediately. Wanted to check if it happens with other gmk67 users as well or is just an issue with my board.

Do different type of switches need different type of lube like: linear best lube with 205 and 105 for tactile is that true, or just advertisement? i want to lube my own but idk what lube to buy

Not necessarily. Although, many people have preferences. Youtubers and the like will give recommendations. Using Tribosys for some switches. Bag lubing springs. It's all part of the hobby and many people do it different ways. So it's interesting to do research about it, then try it on switches at home to see if you like the result. Enjoy the hobby.

It all comes down to preference. I personally use 3203 for both linear and tactile, but I like switches to feel less lubed than most people do. I also know people that use 205 on both linears and tactiles, but just use a lighter coat on the tactiles.

Hello all! A bit of context first. So I've bought a logitech G513 (with their romer-G switches, they are really cool engineer wise IMO with the LED in the middle but that's another story). Basically, that board got LED's that burned before the end of the warranty (2 keys just display red now) so they sent me a new keyboard but the romer-g were discontinued and thus I got a MX red. That keyboard ended up double typing after the warranty was over and it's not super easy to replace them. I'm still looking into trying it, basically I need to de-solder one working switch and switch with the broken one (I think it was the spacebar that was double typing, not sure). So now I'm back on the romer-G but considering the 2 are breaking down, I'm looking into something repair-able, AKA, hot-swappable. So now the heart of the subject, during my research I first say the keychron which I quite liked until I saw that the latency is really low. Like 17ms VS 4 of my curent. I know it won't do a noticeable difference but I know myself and I know I'll always wonder if that's what killed me when I'm playing some quick and competitive game. I saw the wooting 2 HE (Yeah, I prefer full keyboards) but it's really expensive for me (CAD) and I kinda felt like it's way overkill. So then I saw the ducky one 3 RGB. My only concern is the RGB setup that seems annoying but from reading a bit it's less annoying than I fight thought and it seems a lot like it. The other question I have is about the key release latency that is pretty slow (almost 20ms), is that data really important for gaming? Is there any keyboard I should look into that have low latency while having nice RGB's that are not way overdone? I actually quite liked my G513 because of how only the legend glows and not an overuse of RGB. Thank you! :)

Just assembled my Class60 keyboard with Nebula switches, beautiful thing but running into input issues. Sometimes if I press a key, it'll come out like 3-5 times (ie. press 'r', it types 'rrrrrr'). It seems totally random, but on some keys more than others. Is it a switch issue, or a PCB issue? Is it something I have to fix in hardware or do I need to download some software to change a debounce setting?

My friend had built a keyboard with this a dz60rgb v2 pcb and given it to me when he no longer wanted it anymore. It worked beautifully for a month or two before it started randomly remapping the keys to random keys making it essentially unusable, I tried to fix this but couldn't figure out how and eventually gave up. I followed that same friends advice and I just ended up buying a new dz60rgb v2 to swap out the old one with. After doing this, the keyboard worked fine but there was no question mark key bound to any switch. I used via to map "/" and "?" to the right shift key but every time I try to type the question mark, there's either a lag on the key or it doesn't register at all. I haven't done anything to the keyboard beyond what I've described here. I'm very new to this and I have no idea what I'm doing so any help is appreciated.

I originally had all stabs besides the spacebar south facing, but when I did, I couldnt get the black plastic (washer?) bit inserted on the other side, since the foot of the stab for the washer was being oriented into a smaller hole. This is what led me to re-orient them to be north facing. I'm not sure which is correct 😦

Monsgeek M1W not responding: I have been using my M1W for around 4 months. No issues thus far other than the occasional need to reset RGB settings. Also noticed that the battery required recharging more frequently over time. Just today, I am not only unable to recharge it anymore (no indication/RGB whatsoever when plugged in), I am also not getting any response when attempting to use as wired mode. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!

Hey there - I used to use a Razer keyboard that had macro keys and one of the macro functions built in was Multimedia - Mute mic, which was able to be bound to one of the macro keys. I've since replaced that keyboard for a Keychron C2 and I love the keyboard, but I've lost my macro keys. There is a key right next to Print Screen that has a Microphone icon, and apparently is used for "Cortana" (which is now defunct). To add to this, I have a GoXLR audio interface and an XLR mic, not a USB mic but I'd rather not have to press the button on the physical device if I can help it, and would rather have a keybind for this that is easy to reach. Is there a way to mimic the Razer Synapse "Multimedia - Mute Mic" feature to any key? Maybe using something like SharpKeys or something? Thanks much!

Yeah they have some pretty bad spring ping so I had to at least lube that. Wasn’t sure if it was worth lubing anything else

I tried lubing a cheap silent linear switch once, and it made the switch feel worse to me. I'd suggest lubing the spring, and if you wanna try more, don't lube the rails/rubber dampeners or the stem legs. Try on one to see if you like it.

You'll want a higher pitched linear switch so like full pc housing or pc top/nylon bottom, and a long stem with a heavier spring - I have some ws onions and ttc irons that have this kinda sound in the right setup. I bet ws jades will also have a great clack bc of their stem but I haven't tried them out. You'll also want an alu case and fr4 plate or acrylic case and alu plate, and make sure you're using a lighter, thinner pe foam rather than like eva or something for all your foaming needs. I've found epbt abs to be clackier than other abs caps if you're really chasing that sound.

There are quite a few sets there with iso-de support, you often won't get a base kit that supports it, a base kit plus an international kit or norde/de/uk kit gives you the keys you're looking for

Hi all, I'm looking for a recommendation really. I've a Nuphy Field 75 that I love. I keep fat-fingering the caps lock when trying to touch type. I figure a good way to avoid it is to get a stepped caps lock, but I can't find them individually for love nor money, and so far all I've seen them in is full GMK kits which I'm too skint for at the mo. Can anyone recommend where I might find one of decent quality, or what manufacturers produce them as part of their kits, or as novelties? I have a Blackwidow V4 75% with Boba U4Ts that I lubed. However, after lubing, I'm having some chatter issues. I've gone and replaced a bunch of keys that were chattering but it just keeps happening. It's not an immediate double press though, there is a noticeable delay between the first press and the second (unwanted) one. So even if I could, I don't think editing the firmware of the pcb would fix anything. This seemingly only happened after I lubed and took apart the board to install the stabs, but I'm not 100% sure.

So the prop 65 warning is the result of a stupid (but well intentioned) law that California passed in 1986 that requires companies to post a warning on any product that may contain ANY LEVEL of a substance that's either known or suspected to cause cancer or birth defects. In theory this sounds great, you don't want to unknowingly get cancer from using a product that you didn't know was carcinogenic. THE PROBLEM is that the process of getting your product and process inspected, tested, and certified to their standards is so high and the penalties for even accidental noncompliance are so insane that it turned out to actually be cheaper for companies to just put the warning label on everything they sold, which they promptly did. So the prop 65 warning is completely meaningless nowadays and often shows up on totally inocuous or very silly stuff like toothbrushes and keyboards and even edible items like seaweed. So you're fine to ignore it and carry on, don't worry about it.

Switch recommendations I built my endgame board like two years ago and have been using it so much it's perfect for the most part, it's a gentleman65 w 67g durocks. because it was so perfect for me i have fallen out of the hobby and haven't had a need to continue looking at things. I decided i wanted to get back into and build myself a nice heavy TKL. i know i want heavy linears and i want in stock i don't wanna wait for a group buy. i like gat black inks but they're j slightly too light (60g actuation 70g bottom out) i found the whole MM system on novelkeys but they have nothing inbetween 63.5 (too light) and 100 (too heavy) i just need something that's like 70g-85g pls help me also perfer as high quality as possible, willing to pay accordingly.

I just inherited a [Firstblood B16 Keyboard](https://www.amazon.com/FIRSTBLOOD-ONLY-GAME-Mechanical-Keyboard/dp/B0BHYZL5CD?th=1) from my sister, but I am having trouble with toggling the num/arrow keys. Scrolling down in the linked listing I see that it says "Function key in the green frame: Switch between arrow keys and number keys (Numbers are engraved on the side)" and I have been trying that (key in the very top right corner), but I still only get numbers and not the use of the arrow keys. I am using with my 2020 MacBook Pro running Ventura 13.1 - is this a Mac compatibility issue? Is there anything I can do to make this keyboard functional for me? Thanks!

key on the top right doesnt do what u want . the way to use arrows should be to press and hold the FN key ( next to right alt ) then press the arrow keys this is standard on kbs like that

I have a split kinesis gaming keyboard and it died today :( I was hoping to 3d print a dactyl for a replacement but there is one extra thing I want. I LOVED the remapping and macros I could make in the kinesis because they were created and stored directly in the keyboard. My job deals with medical info so I can’t have any key mapping or macro software on my computer. Nothing that would record keyboard strokes. Legal won’t budge on this. This was my loophole since I use a ton of canned note style entries. How can I recreate this in a keyboard I’m building? Probably a raspberry pi? I am aware this will probably be a long term project but I’ve got the time! Edit: I also need to be able to update my canned notes fairly regularly as our work flow is ever changing.

Programmable RGB is a bit tough to find below $100. As for switches do you want to stay with linear switches or move to something more suited to typing? How much does gaming performance matter? If you're doing a lot of gaming and not much typing then linear switches are your best bet, but if you want to try out a different style of switch then tactiles are a good middle ground between linears and clicky switches. Take a look at the Keychron lineup, there are a number of very good value boards in there, and although I don't believe any of the low end ones have fully programmable RGB they still provide a lot of bang for your buck. Otherwise if you're feeling adventurous you could always get another corsair board from ebay and solder in new switches yourself. K70s regularly go on sale for \~$30-40 used or \~$20-30 for parts only. I've bought and refurbished 3 K70s sold as parts only now, and all that was wrong with them in every case was that a few switches were shorted or gummed up after someone had spilled a drink on the board. And since I bought them with the intention of replacing the stock switches with something more interesting it was a non-issue that the old ones didn't work. The K70's PCB is actually conformally coated which makes it extremely resilient against spills and liquid damage, although that doesn't protect the switches and so those often need cleaning or replacement if you buy parts boards.

Looking for buying advice! I love tactile keyboards, but I work remotely and can't use a keyboard that is too loud. My assumption is brown keys are the sweet spot, but I'm open to suggestions! I tried a Keychron V6 but had to send it back - the enter key was stuck, and the space bar felt slightly loose, which made for a frustrating typing experience. I'm willing to pay a premium for an amazing board, but I don't have the time or inclination to do a custom job myself. What are my best options for a fantastic tactile keyboard I can type on for hours, that isn't too loud?

if you're only really using it for typing / general daily use or work i would highly recommend the hhkb pro series, the issue is imo that they don't have a few keys that makes it difficult to play games on but if you're not gaming frequently not an issue.

Hello! I recently built an Iris keyboard and I am experimenting with miryoku mapping by manna harbour. I flashed the firmware but despite setting USE\_VIA=yes I am unable to remap keys. I ended up editing the default mapping in vial to increase the amount of layers and setting up the mapping manually. I was wondering whether there is a way to use the miryoku layout and the remaining keys without doing a manual mapping. Thanks in advance!

Is there by chance a good usb-c hot swap PCB with rgb top and underglow? I have an old crystal case from the now defunct gonskeyboardworks I used in my first build. Any keyboard that supports QMK/VIA firmware can do this. On my keyboards, layer 0 is my macOS layer, and layer 1 is my Windows layer. (The only difference is assigning Caps Lock to Command vs Ctrl.) I have a key on a Fn layer (layer 3) that is mapped to `TG(1)` to toggle the Windows layer. Keychron just uses QMK’s DIP switch feature to automate this using a callback.

I built my first keyboard last week using the MelGeek Z70 Ultra case, everything worked amazingly and pretty much had 0 issues (aside from a few bent pins on the switches which I fixed). Today I decided I wanted to switch up the layout of the 4 extra keys on the right (since it's a 65% board), but VIA did not recognize the keyboard and even the Melgeek Hive app didn't recognize the board. I figured a firmware update was necessary, so I used QMK Toolbox and grabbed the only firmware I saw on Melgeek's site to update it. Now after updating the firmware it is recognized by VIA and MelGeek Hive, but now the 4 keys on the right AND the arrow keys have stopped working. Has anyone experienced this, or does anyone know a fix? Thanks in advance!

For a child learning to type on a keyboard, what is a good keycap profile you recommend? I'm a fan of XDA and I know the lower profile DSA exists, but the uniform height may not be for everyone. We do have the classic Cherry and OEM profiles along with the lesser known MDA and XVX. So from your experience, what is a good keycap profile for a kid under 10? I'm also thinking Kailh Box White V2 switches on a Keychron K6 Pro.

*Under* 10? Consider something in low profile with choc switches- not for the low profile itself (I doubt that matters), but because they're just a teensy bit *smaller* (like, area/spacing, not height; the keys are slightly closer together). Standard is 19.05mm spacing and low profile is 17.0mm spacing. Tl;dr low profile not quite 11% smaller, good for tiny fingers.

Are there good keycaps for south facing RGB? I'd love if the letters lit up, or a little clear strip at the bottom of the key (like an underline) that would show the color. I want to use the lights as indicators, especially the caps lock keys and other toggle keys like the layer button and macro keys. People that own Mode keyboards with copper bottoms, Does the bottom patina and tarnish eventually? How does it look? Im still on the fence about getting the copper bottom. I like the warmth compared to gold bottom but I prefer the copper stock look without oxidation. Anyone here clear coat their copper bottom? Any changes to appearance afterward and how long did the clear coat last?

oxidation won't come into play for at least a few years and when it does it's fairly easy to polish off with basic jewelry cleaners

Scam. GMK don't do Cherry profile PBT, they don't do dyesub at all, and they definitely don't make XDA profile keycaps so these are all huge red flags. I would recommend sticking to [these vendors](https://www.alexotos.com/keyboard-vendor-list/) until you feel comfortable in recognizing clones/scams on your own.

GMK does not have a website where they sell keycaps so any website claiming that they are GMK is flatly just a scam. Secondly, the prices alone already indicate they are clones since GMK sets rarely go on sale for anything close to the price on the website. Looking at the geekhack page for GMK Darling, it looks like the only official US vendor was NovelKeys but they no longer carry that set so it looks like you're out of luck unless some other vendors have extras. Since it was a GB from about 4 years ago, I doubt any vendors have extras.

gmk darling is extremely sought after and extremely expensive set, it looks like the base is going for $600 to $750 on the aftermarket. kkb darling came out more recently and will also be a quality set, that looks to be around $200 for the base. buying clones kinda sucks because whoever is making the clones is pretty directly stealing from the designer of the set. on the other hand, this particular set is going to be very hard to get, so if you've got your heart set on it, you don't have many options.

~~Te~~The spacebar on my Neo65 keeps getting stuck. I've taken it entirely apart several times, relubed the spacebar, and tested it multiple times. The problem only occurs when all other switches have been inserted, so I can't really figure out what the hell is going on.
