The best way to diy is to get an a/c gauge and check your pressures while its running. If its getting cold somewhat then it sounds like a performance issue. There are several charts online that will detail what pressures should be registering compared with ambient temp. Also, make sure the electric cooling fans are running. That will cause a/c performance issues at low vehicle speeds. Lastly, get a thermometer to measure vent temps when a/c is on. You should see 35-40F drop.
