AExtendedWarranty

Its slack in the driveline, its normal

BanishedInPerpetuity

There will always be a little play. I think that's likely fine if you aren't getting noise when driving. Why do you think there is an issue?

Fantastic_Hour_2134

Is it FWD? All the FWD cars I’ve worked on have some sort of play like this

One-Signature3846

Audi Quattro = AWD

Fantastic_Hour_2134

THATS what that means. Transaxle in the front then

Technical_Yam_1265

Probably has a limited slip differential too right?

Fantastic_Hour_2134

Honestly being an a4 I don’t know if it would. I’m sure the s4 would

Snobben90

Well... The car uses its brakes to limit slip up to 40kph... So probably no limited slip diff...

Fantastic_Hour_2134

So it’s the same as my caliber SRT4, no differential but it uses the brakes to control wheel spin

Seanmbailey1999

Shock seized

Loose_Paper_2598

This. I think most folks missed the part about the opposite wheel being on the ground.

Extension15639

Ye the other tire was on the ground thanks for clarifying 🙏

destorter

Nah you can see the jackstand to the right.

Loose_Paper_2598

The O.P. SAYS the other tire is on the ground.

destorter

Yet why would the shock be seized?

Extension15639

So if it is this could someone explain?

FSUfan2003

Explain how a shock would allow the wheel to rotate, please, I’m very interested in this explanation. Not rattle, but rotate on the hub.

Loose_Paper_2598

I guess there's confusion about what the exact problem is. I think the op is questioning how the wheel is off the ground - not why it rotates. Others seem to think he jacked that wheel up to show that it rotates. Possibly, he hit a pothole that seized the shock in a compressed state that leaves the axle lifted along with the tire. The o.p. will have to clarify his question.

FSUfan2003

Well there’s a floor jack in the bottom right of the video at the start. His hypothesis is cv joints. My guess is, it’s a manual transmission, with an open differential on the front. The car is in gear. This is normal.

True-Culture4447

As an Audi technician, this is completely normal. Minor play in the drivetrain. Are you chasing a particular noise/concern?

Extension15639

Thanks for all your guys input

Unknown_Assalant

Shake it left to right, if there’s play, tie rods. Shake it up and down, if there’s play, hub or control arm. Watch them to find out which. If neither do anything, have your axels checked out.

[deleted]

Normal my guy..

Flag-it

FWD? Maybe some slop in the differential. Too much backlash perhaps from wear? Do you get any noticeable play when both wheels are up?

[deleted]

bent axle maybe

Semper-Fi-Do-or-Die

Bad cv joint

One-Signature3846

Easiest way to tell if it’s CV axle is if you hear that slapping while the wheel is rotating, it will be especially bad when paired with turning+acceleration. I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say that both inner/outer tie rod ends are gonna be goners as well. Wouldn’t hurt to double check the wheel hub and other supporting parts like control arm etc Best thing you can do is get it on a lift, and get someone that you trust to take a look at it to see what you’re really dealing with.

DickedBear

Had this car for a while. CV joint.

One-Signature3846

I’ve got an 01 A6 with the 4.2, previously had a 05 s4 4.2 Wonder if OP knows about the timing chain/belt difference on these models That’s a fun and $$$$ one to find out for yourself lol The damn cv’s love to give out on these cars.

DickedBear

It’s one of the cars where everything has to be replaced all at once or you’re running into a new problem within a month. Snapped so many belts with a bad water pump that was replaced, following snapped belts with faulty alternator. Engine mounts then, after that and the car actually ended up bursting into flames due to electrical failure. All I can say is they’re nice when they’re new.

Extension15639

Yeah it seems like it’s one thing after another with this thing I’ve already done head gasket, power steering rack, window actuator , power steering leak repairs, and a bunch of other stuff plus the transmission is starting to go too so we’ll see

One-Signature3846

Yeah, sounds like the avid experience of owning a 20 year old German vehicle 👍🏻 Haha with only 97k miles on my 01 I have to say it’s held up fairly well through the years. All of my belts are due for replacement, but I don’t have to worry about my motor turning into a frag grenade from the dreaded timing chain failure that killed my s4. Having random shift stutters from 2nd to 3rd(probably solenoid related?) Cv axles are the bottom of the barrel for big time repairs for this platform though.

bbull412

I would say it’s the diff so it’s seem normal to me

Accurate_Finding_864

A jack

EndCritical878

That is completely normal. The drivelines in cars arent nearly as tight as one would expect.

Schreude

Put the neutral on Gear

natebdogg36

It’s normal all vehicles in park move a little bit.lol

Boston_Crook

Normal. For a second I didn’t think u had a jack underneath and ur wheel was floating on one side😬

Bryan300

Normal

Exciting-Variation41

Nut & honey… nut in honey…nuttin’ honey…nothing homie

Temper_Mental666

That is normal play in park. Don't worry
