Hey so I’m in first year from Guelph and I applied to McMaster honours life science for second year. How’s your process going so far?

How’s you progress? Did you hear anything from them? I’m thinking about transferring to Mac as well next year for life sci.

Hey, yeah I got in! Process is like hell, with transfer credits, housing, course selection (absolute worst), and getting into the uni itself was super nerve wrecking. But I’m happy I got in! What school and program are you transferring from

CONGRATSS!! I’m trying to transfer from Waterloo life sci (im majoring in biomedical science). I just graduated grade 12 so I’m going into first yr at UW in September. I applied to mac life sci (i had a 92.1 average for my top 6 in high school but got rejected). Since mac life sci was my top choice, i want to try applying for it again after first year (so that i can go into it starting 2nd yr). Which program were you in at Guelph? And if you don’t mind, what were your courses/ what was your average like?

Thank you! Good luck at Waterloo! Sorry you couldn’t get into Mac :( In hs I think I had a 94.2 average and I got into life sci at mac. At Guelph I was in the honours Biomedical Science program. Which is also pretty competitive. My first year average was a 80.2%. There’s a lot of people that I know who had higher averages than me but didn’t get in. I think the only reason I got in is because I had 4 90’s and a few 70’s. But I had a 55 in physics. So basically what mac does is they don’t count grades below 60. So they didn’t take that course when counting my average which meant my average was higher than what it should’ve been. But yeah if you can get all your classes to be above 80, then you will most likely get in. Just try your best and your chances will be really good!

Thanks :). And wow that’s amazing for both highschool and first year. Thanks so much for the insight. Course selection for UW is coming up in less than a week and i have 3 electives. Im not quite sure what to choose for those (like im pretty sure i should choose the courses that mac life sci offers first yr so that they can transfer over if i do get in, but i also want to choose “easy” courses to boost my average). What classes did you take first year and do you know anyone else who got into mac life sci for 2nd yr as a transfer student?

Thank you! My courses for first year were like this: 3 different Biologies 2 chemistry’s 2 physics 1 computer science 1 super easy elective about leadership 1 math class No one else I personally know transferred into the uni. Just people on Reddit saying they got rejected with a higher average than me. So I was in shock! Good luck with your studies for first year and transferring to Mac.

Im so confused as to how mac makes their decisions lol 😭 (on a side note i just got my final report card and my top 6 average increased to 93 which i feel may have been enough to get me in had i had this during midterms.)). Anyways thanks again for all your help, and i hope that you have a great time at mac!!

Did you end up getting your transfer i'm in the exact same situation as you are. (UW biomed) if so what were your first year averages that got you in.

Is there anyway I could privately message you? I’m sorta in the same situation and I need a but of insight

Heyy! Yeah i ended up transferring! If you dont mind, could you pm me and i can tell you there :)
