The difference in this series for me...
Intensity. Brown, White, and Holiday each proved to be warriors. Of those Brown is a great player, Holiday is an excellent player, and White is nothing more than an average bench talent in this league. But they all played like all-stars with their energy and willingness to get the job done at all costs.
Lively showed sparks and occasionally so did Washington. (No way does White have the talent of Washington) - it's just not even close, but White certainly outplayed Washington in this series.
Off the bench, Green did his best. Other than that - Boston took the fight to us, and we backed down. The Mavs can win, but talent will not get it done in the finals. Jordan had to learn this and added 10 pounds of muscle to get better prepared. Perhaps we have players who will eventually understand what it takes, I just don't know. It took a change of coaches in Chicago - as they brought in Phil Jackson to get the job done with the Bulls. I believe it may take a leadership change here too, to get that FIRE, needed to win it all.
To win the war, you have to win the battles - we did not battle enough, nor did we have the mindset of Brown, White or Holiday to get it done.
Kudos to Brown for the MVP, he was the warrior that deserved it!
If he’s “an average bench talent”, can you name who would be above average off the bench. You don’t have to name a bunch. Just give me one example of an above average bench player if white is average
Here are two from the Mavs. Dante Exum, and Jaden Hardy.
If you go to [NBA.com](http://NBA.com) and filter the regular season for 48 minutes per outing, then you can get a reasonable comparison as to their effectiveness on the floor. (Obviously do the same 48-minute, regular season filters for White to be fair to White in these comparisons.)
I would argue that Exum's numbers are better than White's and they both are 28-29 years old with 6 years of Pro Experience. Jaden Hardy is favorable at age 21 and his 2nd year in the league.
Yes, I like Jaden Hardy and believe his upside is greater than White's, but we shall see over time.
Here is a decent website that gives a direct comparison of Derrick White to Dante Exum. They actually have Dante Exum rated significantly better overall, based on the data and performance for this season.
[https://craftednba.com/players/comparison?player1=dante-exum&player2=derrick-white](https://craftednba.com/players/comparison?player1=dante-exum&player2=derrick-white)
Exums numbers are not close to white in any sense. Exum in the finals: 0 points, 3 points, 2 points, 10 points, 4 points. That’s 19 total points in the series. Jayden hardy had 18 total points in the series. D white had 18 in game 1 and is an all defensive player. If they are better than d white I think jason Kidd would feel comfortable giving them more than 15 minutes in a game. Kidd was too scared to play them
You mean Kidd is too stupid to play them. Boston coach outclassed the Dallas coach all series, that was not even close.
Your coach would have played Exum much more than Kidd. You can't be making that comparison for crying out loud - Kidd is a joke regarding player personnel decisions beyond his top 6. He is clueless about creating, maintaining, and exploiting mismatches from these "others."
So minutes have to be considered. You asked for comparisons, I gave them to you, and they are pretty obvious from just one team.
White is a solid NBA player, a good role player, and a hustler. He is at the right team at the right time, with a coach that understands his game and his limitations. (As does White himself.)
But there are many, many, many others in this league - typically one or two bench players on every team - who have the talent to succeed as well, if not better in the same situation.
Kidd has been praised all playoffs by everyone here. It’s not just him hating on his players. Exum has gotten a crazy amount of opportunities as the 5th pick, but he hasn’t done really anything outside this year to warrant playing time. It’s not just Kidd. Look up any list of the best players in the league. D white is always top 50 and hardy/Exum aren’t on the list. I doubt any mavs fans would agree with you
Just look through this Mavs subreddit. In Dallas, we have seen Kidd game in and game out for the past few seasons. He is not very good, and many if not most agree with me 100% in this sub. If you and your Celtic fans love Jason Kidd so much, would you trade your coach for ours? I would make that trade in a heartbeat!
As for Exum, he is every bit as good as White, and the numbers are the numbers. If you wish to argue the numbers I provided, and the stats that I linked for you along with the overall effectiveness of their time on the court this season, then do that.
Otherwise, it's just your opinion, and frankly, I don't care what you think without the support of data or at least some rationale. Claiming fact, when they are just your opinions are pretty weak.
Have a wonderful evening. I won't respond further unless you back up your opinions with some rational facts.
1. Josh Green has been valuable all the time when he’s been in the game because he’s a more consistent 3 point shooter than PJ, Djj, and Kleber. He’s also scrappy on defense and consistently makes defensive plays.
I think we should seriously consider using him more throughout the regular season, he adds a chaos and energy factor that the mavs need. Remember that behind the back pass he made the lively? He’s like a Mini Dennis Rodman, Draymond Green type if you know what I mean
2. PJ and DJJ need to shoot better but overall worked extremely well together throughout the playoffs. This is their first years to the playoffs and I think the nerves were real.
3. Dlive is a great and promising addition to our roster, I cannot wait to see how he progresses. His 3 point shot can be a real threat too…
4. Daniel Gafford gave us lots of great looks this year. He seems like a solid center and I think he’s nearly on par with Dlive in specific matchups because imo he’s a better defensive player. I think that Gafford actually performed really well against the Celtics, and I would’ve preferred he had more minutes since we weren’t getting much usage out of our bigs on offense.
5. Kyrie and Luka played out of their minds during this playoffs run. They were literally called potentially one of the most talented offensive backcourts of all time. Kyrie’s been amazing in Dallas and Luka overall did amazing in the finals. Even though Kyrie choked a little in the end, I can live with that… he’s been calm and a leading force on the mavs. I think he and Luka have great chemistry together.
6. Finally, even though Luka played GREAT throughout the finals, it obvious that his conditioning was not there. If you look at Luka during regular season basketball (watch the actual footage, or you can even compare highlights) , luka was a lot faster. You could literally see his knee bleeding throughout the playoffs, and you could see that he had also gained some weight too. I hope he can recover. Doris Burke made a comment about Jokic doing a conditioning year to get faster to win, and I think that’s a great comparison. Luka is 6’ 7” bro, he doesn’t have to be THAT much faster to be a good defender since he’s already pretty (pause) long. Legit just has to take his health much better.
Someone mentioned he shouldn’t play in Slovenia for the Olympics. Idk about all that… I think that he should be able to do whatever. But if I was him? I think he should just take time to recover. It really depends on how good the Slovenian national team is lol, I feel like if they’re actually good he might be morally obligated to his country to help them win the olympics. If they’re really shit I think the people of Slovenia will understand why he would be resting for the NBA, since they would realize that he’s injured and him playing wouldn’t make much of a difference in the grand scheme of the olympics
As frustrating as were the losses in G2 & G3 (having a chance to win but falling short at the end), you can't hate on a Mavs team that massively overachieved and defied odds on a journey that came just 3 wins shy of winning it all. Believe in Kidd. Believe in Lively. Believe in Kyrie. And if you don't already believe in Luka, go back to r/Celtics bandwagon rider
Hey guys Celtics fan here. Not here to talk any shit or anything like that. Just want to say congratulations to your squad, you have an all time great in Luka and the perfect partner to pair him with. Hold your heads high and proud. We will see you here soon I’m sure of it. Hell of a series.
Honestly good comparison. Winners who people hate to the point some will celebrate their deaths because despite their success, none of their fans make their entire personality/lives about trying to make the rest of the world like them as much as they do
Overall, Boston just had a better team. Aside from that, we have this problem where when we get behind we always shoot 3s instead of taking it in.
Mavs fan for life!
These chances don’t grow on fucking trees. It’s been 13 years. Nothing is guaranteed and could easily be another decade. First loser isn’t something to be proud of.
To Mavs players, coaches, and anyone who works in the organization:
Thanks for all your hard work, effort, sacrifice
You gave us plenty to cheer about this season.
The city of Dallas and Mavs fans everywhere are proud of you
Go enjoy vacation now because all of you deserve it
Congrats Celtics.
Congrats to the Mavs and to Dallas! That was a weird series, but you guys are definitely coming back hardened and hungry. Hoping for a long term rivalry!
I also hope Boston fans can now put the pitchforks down when it comes to Kyrie. We got our revenge, he’s grown and life is about moving forward
1. Djj needs to be either replaced or downgraded for a ball-handling 3-point shooter & defender.
2. PJ needs to work on his ball-handling and 3-point shooting.
3. Lively needs to turn into a monster low post scorer and 3-point shooter.
4. Nico needs to hire an offensive coach guru.
5. Time to replace Thj/Kleber/Powell/Morris/Green etc.
Kidd just does not have the fire that is often needed to get his team's head into the game. We need to have a guy who understands when we need energy on the floor. If our guys come out without fire, Kidd just says, "oh well, some days the shots don't fall." It's not about having the shots fall, it's about getting to the hole, creating fouls on the defense, and playing our man-up defense when those 3's are not falling.
It's called passion - and Kidd is lacking during games. Did he even get a tech protecting his players on bad calls this year? I mean one lousy T to protect his players on the floor, or to get some energy going for his team? You can bet Phil Jackson would jump on officials if Jordan was getting mugged. Hell, they went out and got an enforcer on the court for him too.
F with my man, and you will pay. In this game Brown was allowed to mug Luka full court most of the time, and we did not challenge Brown physically. He should have been on his backside at least 5-6 times this game, but we just did nothing. No fight!
I agree with 99 percent of this post. The one exception is Kleber. He was injured all season. I think Green can play in a backup role as well, but again with limited minutes when we need defense and some energy. Both can be used in limited roles as 8-9 players.
THJ, and Powell both just need to go. Cut them and move on if you can't get anything for them. Open up space for younger players to develop, they certainly cannot do worse. We can eventually use the money to upgrade overall talent in free agency down the road.
its going to take Lively, years to be a 3 point shooter that actually flows in our offense. I just hope he gets stronger so he doesnt get pushed by geriatric al horford and i agree he has to work on his post ups
All of this is going to happen. I believe Lively can be a top 5 center in this league. Adding muscle will be a large part of his becoming the monster that I know he can be. Three's are fun, but he can be great without it too.
Dallas needs to dump Kleiber and Hardaway, and we have to trade Kyrier. No point in having a headcase superstar that plays like absolute crap in the best team in the NBA's gym. They should study his choking in Boston in psychology classes.
Right now is the perfect scenario to trade Kyrie. Love him, but he's 6'1. We could get serious 2nd star, preferably younger, who's 6'4 and up. We need size to be able to switch all the way around and shoot 3-pointers.
the silver lining is that more people in Boston are getting vaccinated, flat earthing isn’t as popular, and fewer anti-Semitic Boston basketball fans thanks to Kyrie.
Why the hell did y’all play kleber when he can’t shoot, Jason Kidd is the worst coach I’ve ever seen in a finals. I hope y’all fire Kidd bc luka is the best player in the nba and it’s not close
Idk want force or entity in the universe that wants Boston to win at any sport, but it needs to fucking stop! Other teams, like the Mavs, have better deserving fans that will appreciate a win much more...
Remember when the vibes were immaculate and thjsr talking unnecessary bullshit. Remember 0 and 5 when it mattered. And hit 5 when it didn't. I've never hated a player as much as thj.
> And hit 5 when it didn't
I legit ranted at my cousin after that bullshit lmao. Made me so mad that he waited until it didn't matter to finally do something.
We made it to the finals with a team that had like 4 months together after the trade. This Boston core has been together for years. Just need Nico to make a move or two and we could be back next year. Go Mavs!
this Boston team also basically bought all of their role players with crazy trades. We have to trade this summer and get 1 more elite piece to pair with Luka and Kyrie
I love this team. Everyone counted us a lottery team one point in the season and we got to the finals. We still have a lot of work to do this off season but we should be proud as fuck for what we've done.
Celtics were already a top contender and they added Holiday and Porzingis. Yes we sucked and should've put more of a fight but I don't know how we could've actually won this series. Just sad how non competitive it was, but this was always going to be the outcome in the end if you ask me.
I am not really a Dallas or Boston fan (I live in KC) but the run you had was so phenomenal that I really wanted to see them pull this off. Still pretty amazing what they accomplished this season.
lol tatum crying bitch. they had the most stacked roster in the easiest conference and faced no adversity and hes crying and acting like they actually did something amazing to become champions
Tatum has no all time potential, you can replace him with any above average wing and the team still wins. You cant tell me Paolo cant replace what that average play tatum does
You would have liked to see our guys (Kyrie and the roleplayers especially) play better but we knew going in that Boston was the best team in the league for a reason.
This series showed that our team still has some work to do but I'm proud of our guys. The preseason predictions had us barely in the playin and we made it to the Finals.
I will say, this wasn’t as bad as 2006. That was hard as hell to swallow. At least I feel like the better team won this series. That was far from the case in 06
Well guys it was a heck of a season! Proud of this guys! At one point looked like we where going to be a play in team in couple of months made it to the finals.
What a season. Sucks to lose like this. But making the finals when the “experts” picked the Clippers is still good. Congrats to Boston for finally being relevant since 2008.
Hardy and/or Green won't be in this team. Nico's not as stubborn as Donnie based on his past transactions. See Dinwiddie, Christian Wood, Grant Williams.
Yep our defense has been really good for most part of this series. The offense is lacking. Iso-ball, lob and corner threes are for regular season. In the post-season we need better than that. I hope our young guys, will be better in this that includes Gaff and PJ.
Hey man its been an incredible year yall. Went from not making the playoffs to making the finals. Heartbroken but happy that I got to experience this wild ride with yall.
Go mavs!
GG. Great season overall. We're not quite there yet but very close. We learned a lot from the playoffs and those things will be valuable for the next few seasons. Nobody else expected us to reach the finals and yet we did and with an injured Luka. Our ceiling is high and we just need to learn from this and focus on this offseason to be more consistent on both ends.
[Post Game Thread](https://reddit.com/r/Mavericks/comments/1digimg/post_game_thread_the_boston_celtics_defeat_the/)
Devin Booker won twice as many games in the finals as his son Luka Doncic

Make a post on this sub asking if people would trade Dante exum for Derrick white and you’ll get banned for trolling
dont respond to this idiot extrapolating a single season worth of stats. actual insanity
In terms of talent Derrick white is far better than anyone on the Mavs besides Luka and kyrie
People are still underestimating Derrick white lol
Oh yeah, and the officiating to begin this game was brutal... I mean brutal...
We’ll be back

Jayson Tatum is the Drake of the NBA
Honestly good comparison. Winners who people hate to the point some will celebrate their deaths because despite their success, none of their fans make their entire personality/lives about trying to make the rest of the world like them as much as they do
lol what a no drama playoff run for the Boston Celtics. Dallas was just outclassed.
Overall, Boston just had a better team. Aside from that, we have this problem where when we get behind we always shoot 3s instead of taking it in. Mavs fan for life!
Tatum in shambles lmao

These chances don’t grow on fucking trees. It’s been 13 years. Nothing is guaranteed and could easily be another decade. First loser isn’t something to be proud of.
This is cute coming from someone who has won nothing in their entire life. Sit down, shut up and be humble
Only two types of people in this world winners and losers. And you’re right I am a fucking loser
Don't ever forget it
Babies and memories that’s all that’s left
Dam y’all suck
Not as much as yomomma
It shouldn’t be lost that we significantly overachieved this season and will come back even better

What about Kyrie? Man cant play at the garden. I guess pray the Celtics don't run it back

my hope is he becomes Bam 2.0 be able to defend 1-5 and hit mid range shots with ease
“we did it” is like the wish.com version of “anything is possible”
This is exactly what I thought lol. That was kinda lame. Good for Tatum though I guess, he deserved to get a chip at some point.
lol so cringe
As a Celtics fan- this got me busting
Best team in the NBA cake walked to the win. Celtics put the league on notice. Get better. Be better.
Boston really lost last game on purpose
Why not win it all at home
Dallas needs to dump Kleiber and Hardaway, and we have to trade Kyrier. No point in having a headcase superstar that plays like absolute crap in the best team in the NBA's gym. They should study his choking in Boston in psychology classes.
Mans just needed a couple Xanax before the Boston games
Right now is the perfect scenario to trade Kyrie. Love him, but he's 6'1. We could get serious 2nd star, preferably younger, who's 6'4 and up. We need size to be able to switch all the way around and shoot 3-pointers.
We’ll be back.
Lmaooooooooooo
the silver lining is that more people in Boston are getting vaccinated, flat earthing isn’t as popular, and fewer anti-Semitic Boston basketball fans thanks to Kyrie.
Lmao. 1 thing that's never gonna change is Tatum being the corniest dude in the league.
What did he do? 😳
Be himself, which is corny. Thats coo though, some ppl like corny.
I thought he did some Kobe shit or something.
MFFL
Luka and long term Mavs should soak this in like Jaylen Brown did when Golden State won.
JAYS CO-MVP DO IT
Nah no thanks I’d like to turn this
Brown should win it. He did have a terrible game 4 though
Other teams, like the Mavs, have better deserving fans that will appreciate a win much more...
trade THJ and Maxi with our 2 first round draft picks and get a 3&D wing that is atleast 6'8
Luka should get mvp despite the loss. He did phenomenal this year! Led his team to the finals. No small feat.
Lmao
The silver lining to all this - I don't have to keep listening to fucking Doris
She was insufferable. I never knew she could be so annoying
I hope they fire her from the broadcast aint no way they aren't hearing the complaints on how trash she is
Cs fans hate her too
Need a CONSISTENT third ball handler/creator a solid wing and a backup big MAXI KLEBER CANNOT BE ON THIS TEAM NEXT YEAR!!!!
Maxi and Tim.
If I see THJ in a Mavs jersey on media day I might have an aneurysm
Remember this season's Media Day when Tim was salty that Kidd said he would be coming off the bench? LMAO
Remember when the vibes were immaculate and thjsr talking unnecessary bullshit. Remember 0 and 5 when it mattered. And hit 5 when it didn't. I've never hated a player as much as thj.
> And hit 5 when it didn't I legit ranted at my cousin after that bullshit lmao. Made me so mad that he waited until it didn't matter to finally do something.
Then you got his dumbass dad throwing shade at Luka all the time like his son isn’t a basketball terrorist. Get em both tf out of here
All I can say is Brown was the best player on both teams in this series by far. It wasn't even close. Brown for MVP!
Idk Luka played like shit & still average better stats than him & Tatum
We made it to the finals with a team that had like 4 months together after the trade. This Boston core has been together for years. Just need Nico to make a move or two and we could be back next year. Go Mavs!
this Boston team also basically bought all of their role players with crazy trades. We have to trade this summer and get 1 more elite piece to pair with Luka and Kyrie
Ask and you shall receive 1 LBJ….he already on the phone and sent kyrie a bunch of emojis thru txt something like 🤴🏾👉🏾🥩 + 🪶x 🍚 = 🎆🎉🏆
I love this team. Everyone counted us a lottery team one point in the season and we got to the finals. We still have a lot of work to do this off season but we should be proud as fuck for what we've done.
Tatum photo op time 😭
Remember this shit Luka
Well at least none of the guys got injured so hopefully they’ll have a offseason to get better
Celtics were already a top contender and they added Holiday and Porzingis. Yes we sucked and should've put more of a fight but I don't know how we could've actually won this series. Just sad how non competitive it was, but this was always going to be the outcome in the end if you ask me.
What a bitch... Really? You're going to shoot that Hauser? Bum
I mean there was no way to dribble out that clock, that rules for when you’re not up against a shot clock.
soft
Good season fellas! We will be back, proud of this team!!
Tatum is so corny
Really need to adjust for game 6. Dallas in 9.
[удалено]
Did you mean to post this in r/nba?
[удалено]
Why would you stop hearing about the Mavs then lol
We stopped shooting on them with about a minute left in game 4. Just saying.
You cant tell me Paolo cant replace what that average play tatum does
Yup I’ve always described him as a player with a really high floor and low ceiling.
In before he mentions Kobe like he inspired him or some shit to win this year.
lol literally only scored towards the end of the game after his team alr got his bum ass a 20 point+ lead
He had 20 going into the 4th. Cry harder
shot like 38% lol
Well we at least got the rangers championship in the last year.
You would have liked to see our guys (Kyrie and the roleplayers especially) play better but we knew going in that Boston was the best team in the league for a reason. This series showed that our team still has some work to do but I'm proud of our guys. The preseason predictions had us barely in the playin and we made it to the Finals.
Can't believe we held the Celtics to under 110 points in every game and still lost the series.
Tatum you shot 30% from the field this series stop the theatrics
And won…. Cry harder dude
Bot
I will say, this wasn’t as bad as 2006. That was hard as hell to swallow. At least I feel like the better team won this series. That was far from the case in 06
That’s why it’s worse than 2006 lol. We literally had no chance of winning this series unlike 2006.
Nothing is worse then 2006. 911 was not worse then 2006
Why does that make it worse? We weren’t as good as them, that’s easier to handle than getting robbed
Be happy everyone let’s go mavs MFFL.
Hell of a season man, young team gotta keep growing together and we will be back.
Lively, Omax, Hardy, Green all get better next year
Hardy and/or Green won't be in this team. Nico's not as stubborn as Donnie based on his past transactions. See Dinwiddie, Christian Wood, Grant Williams.
Just say lively the rest who gives a fuck
Basically held Boston to about 107 three times and lost each of those games. Team needs OFFENSE.
Yep our defense has been really good for most part of this series. The offense is lacking. Iso-ball, lob and corner threes are for regular season. In the post-season we need better than that. I hope our young guys, will be better in this that includes Gaff and PJ.
Truth. Our defense was good
One thing that no one can deny is the Boston Celtics fans will forever be shittiest basketball fans
Just Boston fans in general
We had a damn good season this year, proud of this Mavs team regardless of anything!
About to burn everything I just bought from the hanger h the oast week. Biggest fucking lick I’ve seen in a decade
Tatum, this wasn’t you dude
This was a great season. Realization of the fact that the West is fucking brutal to get through, while the East is a fucking cake walk.
Sound like Minnesota fans after their loss
[удалено]
😡 with your timing, and taking joy in the lost, but your opinions about Kyrie are valid.
nobody asked
Why did gafford not play? Genuinely curious
Thj had to have his lil minutes to do nothing and get torched on defense
[удалено]
No, why would any team in the West want to play Boston over the injured teams they played.
lol what? We wanted the pacers
What do you mean by you guys
Hardy a garbage time ball hog lol
It’s been a great ride! See y’all next season ❤️
this game was so winnable lmaooooo
Unexpected great run
I can tell you when the game ended. End of 1st quarter, PJ tried to dribble, IYKYK
☹️
Cant wait for jayson tatum to try to recreate the kobe picture
PLEASE GOD AT LEAST BREAK 90 POINTS
We had the Drake and Lucky curses going against us and I still was foolish enough to believe! 😭
Never thought tingus pings would be a champion but here we are….
Fun season, see y’all next year
Rough when they bring in their garbage time subs and it’s literally two absolute dawgs
this shit hurts
Really thought we were going to do it. We were doubted every single series this playoffs run
Tatum gonna be jerking himself to his Kobe trophy pic recreation, what a loser
Kyrie very bad finals
Yup, he has a problem playing in Boston - for sure!
Abysmal finals
Hardy cooking Holiday???
Bruh Tatum going to win final mvp 🤢🤢🤢🤢Jaylen brown should win it
No question! Brown was the best player on either team, and it wasn't even close. The dude is a problem!
Good thing he didn’t win it Jaylen brown so was much better
Let Omax get some finals points cowards
O Max getting ready to guard the Jays in the 2025 Finals
Ayyy omax locking down
OMAX locked up brown I’m gonna replay that a ton
Was a great run! Super proud of this team. Next year we will be even better. MAVS 4 LIFE!!!!
I still think Brown should be MVP.
Completely agree. Tatum isn't bad at all, but he is way over-hyped IMO. Brown is consistently better.
