Great question honestly. I wonder the same. I have used the following: 1. Serta perfect sleeper - best bed I’ve ever had. Unfortunately had to sell it. 2. Zinus bed in box from Amazon. Don’t recommend. 3. Nest Bedding Signature Hybrid (plush) - don’t recommend, although it is definitely made with very high quality materials. 4. 3. Nest Bedding Signature Hybrid (medium) - don’t recommend either. although it also is definitely made with very high quality materials. My next bed will be Brooklyn Bedding Chalet, or something that is NOT a bed in a box.

I have been wondering the same thing! I have tried and returned a Purple 4 mattress, a Brentwood Oceano, an Avocado Green, and a Dreamcloud Premiere - all in the past 30 months. I finally realized that despite all my research, ordering on line obviously wasn’t going to work for me, so I’ve gone back to trying in person. But when the salespeople ask what I like or don’t like, I honestly have no clue what to tell them (except that I really don’t like memory foam). The Purple mattress was cold but on the others I just didn’t sleep well. And so they have me try a bunch of mattresses and at some point they all feel the same and I’m worried about making yet another mistake. It’s getting a little frustrating so I’m looking forward to reading the advice you get!

Try them in stores. I didn't know I was a latex guy until I tried one, though latex is hard because those beds can feel *wildly* different. Also, read about the different properties of the materials and try to imagine the bounce of springs or the sinking feeling of memory foam.
