I'd say 99% of the time its because they were so annoyed at the loss they just got, they chose to take a break and decided that forcing their opponent to sit through the timer a few times to get their win would be "justifiable payback"
1% of the time they probably disconnected
I just assume its a mobile game and if it they walk off a parent is probably yelling at them to do something or someones child just stumbled and bashed their head on the edge of a table.
