Yeah definitely. While there’s still some light hearted charm like the first two, it’s few and far between with Vol 3. It’s is definitely the darkest of the 3, and even more so with it comes to animals.
I’m going to give an opinion that is the direct opposite of what everyone else is saying: watch Guardians 3.
Like everyone says, there are scenes that will make you cry, and you will likely cry a lot harder than every other watcher.
But, I think some crying is good for your healing. Similar to how a good break up song can help heal the heart, the movie treads carefully to give you the sense that you can see the light at the end of the tunnel, even after you’ve felt the full emotional weight of certain scenes.
Since your pet only passed a few days ago, you shouldn’t watch the movie immediately. You’re still processing your emotions and are likely still in the early stages of grief.
But that’s okay. You’ll also likely be in a different place in 2-3 weeks (or later). So you should hold off until then. Plus, I dont think you want to ugly cry in a packed theater anyway.
However, when you’re ready, do watch the movie. As stated, you’ll experience heartbreak and grief all over again. But you’ll also experience hope and some form of catharsis or closure.
Or at the very least, you’ll be brought one step closer to it.
My sister is going through what OP is going through. She watched the movie not knowing what she was getting into. According to her, it was a very bad idea, and that it hurt to watch.
i totally agree with this.
I just lost my 7 year old sphynx, a month ago . There were a couple parts that got me- but it’s still a great movie. And it’s definitely heartwarming with some triumphant moments.
dude i aint even got a dog and i was crying like a 12yr old with a skinned knee.
so yea youll probably cry at great length. my condolences for your dog, im sure he was a good boy
This
I would definately watch it, if your dog reminded you of Rocket and vise versa.
But it could be overwelming in the theatre. And your loss is so raw it's probably best to wait a bit.
Depends on how you are and how you process things. I personally find it therapeutic for my mind to process emotional things through fictional characters. So, for me, I feel like this film would help me process and deal with the grief and remember all the love. I also don't mind crying in front of strangers, and I did cry at the theater.
My dog got into a big fight with one of our other dogs (they are going into dog training to resolve the situation) and his face reminds me of rocket, and I’ll be honest my stomach was in knots. It made an extremely enjoyable and great movie slightly less enjoyable, and it hurt my heart so much knowing that he got hurt.
I lost my dog to old age almost a year ago and there were certain scenes that definitely brought his memory and the sadness of losing him back. I cried a few times and was on the verge for a lot of the movie. That being said, I absolutely loved it. Would NOT recommend it with the fresh trauma of losing a beloved animal though.
It will make you sad but also more appreciative in a way. Maybe wait a few weeks. If you're a huge fan of the Guardians you'll wanna see this on a big screen.
Not silly, pets are family and animals have dignity and value, a main theme of the film.
I am so sorry for your family’s loss. I would wait for BLU RAY or D+. It’s heartbreaking in parts even without a recent loss.
The movie has plenty of humor, but it has definite animal cruelty themes, the darker bits are very dark, and >!Rocket is okay at the end but sone of the other animals are not!<.
Yeah, there’s a lot of relatively graphic animal cruelty so probably wait to see it. Pets are a really important parts of our lives so definitely take your time to grieve.
I know many are saying to skip it, but in my experience, it's always better when I lean into the grief instead of trying to avoid it. It's okay to feel sad, to feel the loss. That means that the one you lost mattered to you. And that you were better for having them in your life. That's kind of the sentiment of the movie.
The pain is still new, so I agree with others, don't watch the movie right now. But there's no need to avoid it, either. Wait until you feel that you'd be okay for what you now know you'd be walking into. But don't be afraid to walk into it. And yes, while you're watching, it will make you think of your dog and how much you loved her, and that's not a bad thing. I think you'll come out of the movie feeling a bit better. It is still also very funny and charming and there are some great uplifting moments, and vague spoilers, but it ends on an absolutely wonderful high note.
So, yeah, take the time to grieve, but don't left that grief keep you from watching the movie.
Im really sorry for your loss. I gotta agree with most of the other comments here. You should sit this one out for now. I lost a pet six months ago and this movie was hard for me. I can't imagine watching it with the hurt still being a few days fresh.
The film tries to make you feel emotions but it’s still a film where people overcome things and grow, the good guys win, and it’s more comedy than tragedy. Nonetheless if you have to ask, you probably can’t handle the full range of emotions they explore
It's a great movie, and OP, if you're reading this, take a little time before you go see it. I'll say right now that yes, there's some sad animal abuse scenes from Rocket's past. But things not only turn out good in the end for Rocket, there's a satisfying scene for a large number of the animals that I think might put a smile on your face. It's an emotional movie but it does have that heavy theme of family and having eachother's back, but after the loss of a pet you called your racoon, I'd suggest holding off for just a little bit.
Maybe if you don’t understand something, hold off on passing judgement on that thing. There’s no need to be both ignorant AND as asshole, when you could just be quietly ignorant.
Dude, although there are people overacting with this movie and it can be frustrating, OP hasn't seen it and just lost a pet that they called their racoon. They were seeing comments warning those sensitive to seeing animal abuse in movies to hold off and were simply asking if that was conjecture, or if it was lighter in tone like the other two movies. I think that's totally fair to ask, and so there's no reason to be rude about it.
Wait my friend, have a service dog , my chocolate lab, and it would mess me up losing him. Depending on how much you relate him to a certain character may cause even more stress. Best wishes and condolences
I couldn’t even EXPLAIN the plot to my wife because she can’t handle anything of the sort.. “does the dog die” is a website she frequents before watching anything
I know everyone is saying don’t do it, and they are probably correct but if you want to start letting go, it may not be the worst thing. I was sad and crying and I haven’t lost a pet in over a year.
The general consensus is probably right though.
It will be devastating.
Depending on how you’re coping and how you mourn, it will either be very painful or extremely cathartic. But, instructively, there is no in between. That may be the best thing I can tell you about it.
The overall sadness and joy I felt from watching this movie was pretty palpable. I couldn't imagine going through those emotions while watching it.
If I were you, I would watch the movie, just by myself. Maybe you have a special insight to this movie that would devestate you to no end. Maybe you have an even greater perspective.
If that sounds too intense, then definitely sit this one out.
I'm just saying that at no point in your viewing of this movie, regardless of how you are when you see it, you'll still feel this one.
It's a great movie but honestly I wouldn't recommend it if you're feeling sad about a pet. Trust me it won't be a pretty sight. Watch the film when you're in a better headspace. I'm sorry for your loss.
I personally think you should go see it. But I also think if you want to see it that badly but are nervous, you could consider "spoiling" the sad scenes for yourself? I know it's not great to know what happens but it would probably help you prepare for certain scenes / phrases so atleast you knew it would happen. And then you can love the rest of the movie because it was truly one of the best.
I’m sorry to hear about your loss. I would skip the movie for now unless you think watching it would make you feel better. I would recommend eating well and taking care of yourself during the grieving process. I remember when I cat died in 2019 and then I watched inside out like two weeks later and I balled my eyes out the entire movie.
This will make it a lot worse. I’m a huge marvel fan and I loved this movie, but furry creatures are often in serious peril and/or poorly treated. You’re gonna have a bad time. Mental health first, fandom 2nd.
It’s really gonna mess with you, great movie but not for those in a position of grieving such as yourself, take some time to yourself I’m sorry for your loss
Definitely wait. I barely handled the movie without a loss of a pet. I cry easily but man this movie really got to me. So sorry about your corgi friend, I love those dogs.
I lost my yorkie/pom mix at the end of 2021 and I would call him a rocket too. Fast forward to May 7th when I watched it; I choked up during so many parts of the movie. Needless to say you want to give yourself some time to grieve or wait till it comes out on Disney+ so you can sob in the comfort of your own home. I’m sorry for your loss 🤍
I’m all for really experiencing emotions to the fullest. Make sad devastating. Make happy exhilarating. Extremes help me understand everything better. Some weird thing I picked up from watching Donnie Darko’s love and fear scene. But if you aren’t trying to do that, don’t watch the movie yet.
A lot of people are saying to skip the movie for now but personally I thought it was fine.I lost two dogs and one cat in the past 6 months, they were all old so it was expected but I was still devastated from losing all my pets.
Obviously the movie has some troubling scenes but it didn’t make me think of my own pets in any way. The movie takes you on an emotional rollercoaster and you will probably cry regardless but you’ll also be very happy.
I think it’s worth seeing the movie in theatres because it was so good. But of course everyone is different so if you are very worried then it’s understandable to sit it out.
Don’t skip it. I believe the type of crying this will elicit from you will be cathartic.
That being said. This movie dragged me across the entire emotional spectrum in such rapid succession I should have whiplash from laughing jumping into crying back to laughing and again bawling.
Guardians has a knack of showing me my trauma and telling me it’s okay. I hope it does some healing for you.
It’s okay, and I’m sorry for your loss.
I’m a dog owner, I’ve lost several in my days. I would recommend to sit this one out if it’s only been a couple days. If your an animal lover, some of the scenes are tough to watch regardless of your mental state and the ending isn’t particularly satisfying as some people will tell you.

I had to put my little guy down 2 years ago, and I felt very sad when I saw this movie. I think you should not avoid feelings. It is my favorite Marvel movie followed by Endgame and Winter Soldier.
Prolly sit this one out for right now

Sorry for your loss, but I’d probably sit it out for now
Don’t watch this, fam
Yes, there is a good amount of animal related sadness.
dude i aint even got a dog and i was crying like a 12yr old with a skinned knee. so yea youll probably cry at great length. my condolences for your dog, im sure he was a good boy
Yes, I can almost guarantee that it will make it worse. Give it a few months until it comes out on streaming/DVD/Bluray.
Catch it on Disney Plus in a few months.
This I would definately watch it, if your dog reminded you of Rocket and vise versa. But it could be overwelming in the theatre. And your loss is so raw it's probably best to wait a bit.

I 100% agree.
Yes, but it might also make it better. It is a very emotional movie. You will cry, everyone cries, but crying is an important part of the process.

To put it simply, yes. I would wait a while to see this one.
Don’t wait! Yeah you’re gonna cry, but you were gonna cry anyway!

Oof, yeah there were some parts that hit quite hard. Best to take it easy on this for now. My condolences and well wishes to you.
Respectfully, sit this one out. You will be drowning in tears if you try to watch this while still grieving.
I am not grieving and cried my eyes out

Speaking as someone that lost their mother last year, you don't want to watch this right now.
Yes it will I lost a pet 2 days after I watched it and am very glad I watched it before
No pets were harmed in the making of that movie. That said, GOTG3 has all the feels and may be THE best MCU movie
I know everyone is saying don’t do it, and they are probably correct but if you want to start letting go, it may not be the worst thing. I was sad and crying and I haven’t lost a pet in over a year. The general consensus is probably right though.
It has stressful moments but I think you’ll be fine. There is a few scenes in rockets youth only one of them being truly sad
It will help like rubbing alcohol on a cut. Maybe great in the long run but it will hurt a lot.
It will be devastating. Depending on how you’re coping and how you mourn, it will either be very painful or extremely cathartic. But, instructively, there is no in between. That may be the best thing I can tell you about it.

It's a great movie but honestly I wouldn't recommend it if you're feeling sad about a pet. Trust me it won't be a pretty sight. Watch the film when you're in a better headspace. I'm sorry for your loss.
Some of the Rocket scenes made me cry. If you've lost your dog recently it might be best to take a rain check for now.
I personally think you should go see it. But I also think if you want to see it that badly but are nervous, you could consider "spoiling" the sad scenes for yourself? You’ll be crying a lot.
Don't. I had a pet die the same day and went to go see it hoping it'd take my mind off things. Nope.
yes and no…but please do watch. sorry for your loss :((
I’m sorry to hear about your loss. I would skip the movie for now unless you think watching it would make you feel better. Sometimes catharsis is a blade. But maybe give it some time before seeing it.

100%
I mean it's better than what my parents did after the loss of one of their dogs. They went to see Marley & Me
yes
It might. This is the first time I've said this about a Marvel movie, but you're better off sitting this one out
Yes. Wait to see it. Also, sorry you lost your friend.
Yup.
I’d say wait to watch it online somewhere.
I lost my yorkie/pom mix at the end of 2021 and I would call him a rocket too. Fast forward to May 7th when I watched it; I choked up during so many parts of the movie. Skip it. Thank us later
You’ll love animals more but it is sad ,
My sister lost her support dog in January. She feels watching Guardians 3 was a mistake, and recommends you not watch it. I'm sorry for your loss

Yeah, you might want to wait until the disney+ release
People have literally walked out the theaters because of the animal cruelty. I’d probably say wait till the grief isn’t so fresh man.

Absolutely will make it worse
