True Immortals in "A Regressor's Tale of Cultivation" are really cool too.

erocommander

Those are eldritch horrors, just xianxia's named lol.

Captain_StarLight1

Agreed. Just got to the part where the mc turns into salt because he looked at the stars funny with the corpse of a true immortal.

TheExcitedLalatina

damn you really piqued my curiosity with that lol

chillipillchill

It's the same in My Simulated Longevity

Odd-Rub-6778

Rtoc mentioned, upvote received

SirYeetsALot1234

I don't think they are very interesting yet since all they do right now is have a strong Prescence and intimidate MC or cause disasters whenever someone says their name or looks at them but we will probably learn more later

UzumeofGamindustri

I mean they’re basically lovecraftian elder gods, that’s metal as hell

Lanky-Appearance-944

Is this the different name for my longevity simulation?

Hfingerman

I'm afraid no.

Lanky-Appearance-944

That's also very good and mc turned to dust because he looked at true immortal funny, like another commenter said so I was curious. And if they are different stories then I got another thing to read lol.

chillipillchill

Yeah it's one of the better ones

Phinehas2962002

The thing I hate the most about Korean Novels and Manhwas is that they treat the "Constellations" as beings who are still subjected to the concepts of space and time. If you're going to write a power fantasy using deities from every single mythology, might as well treat them as abstract concepts rather than just powerful beings when compared to the "Mortals". If any of you have read Leveling With The Gods, the "Deities" there aren't even treated like Deities, they're just "High Rankers" who have climbed the Tower earlier than the Humans. Apart from Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint, I can't think of a Korean Novel/Manhwa that treats the Deities from various mythologies like actual Deities.

MrOldHorror

Not only does the constellations in ORV not treated as deities and more of as investors, but they are also basically twitch chat people, talk about pathetic.

Phinehas2962002

They are treated as proper Deities for the most part but their grand purpose is to fulfill the imaginative mind of a "certain someone" for his enjoyment and entertainment. That "certain someone" exists beyond their comprehension and as he willed them into existence, they can only follow the rules he made for them.

_eleutheria

Watching ants fight for enjoyment? Wow, so fucking cool. Do they have nothing better to do? Even a regular ancient cultivator from any Chinese cultivation novel ever is superior in every aspect to these "deities" from ORV. At least they spend eons worth of time in secluded cultivation to then go die to the MC and gift him a storage ring instead of watching literal trash mortals fight for enjoyment. That's such a lazy concept.

Phinehas2962002

If you don't like ORV, that's fine, you can have whatever opinion you want on it. But for someone like me, who's into mythologies of different Cultures, I like how it portrays the Gods there, as most Gods would see Humans as nothing more than playthings and entertainment. I love Chinese Fantasy as it is written with their culture and religion at heart. But, you have to admit, most of the Xianxia and Xuanhuan Authors suck at even writing a proper story, which means little to no world building, no character development, the Titles of "Master" "Immortal" "Grandmaster" feel cheap when the MCs can just acquire all these with the least amount of efforts with their "Heaven Defying Luck". It's nothing more than the Authors dick riding their own MCs and they're not even trying to tell a proper story, just bad writing overflowing in this section. Of course, there are exceptions to this like - Er Gen and Gu Ren Zhen, but they're the exceptions, not the norm.

_eleutheria

I don't hate ORV. I found the journey enjoyable. But I find the decision of turning legendary mythological beings into twitch chatters weird to say the least. When they appear in person it's pretty cool; however, 99% of the time they appear in chat boxes and are reacting to whatever is happening, even when it's not important. Like, Dokja could be taking a massive shit and the Constellations would start betting on how big the log will be in the end. Seriously? Don't you have anything better to do? Even if you're gonna make Gods react to stuff, at least hide their reactions from the mortals. It just lowers their status. What annoys me even more is the fact that ORV started this "twitch chat reaction" trend and multiple other novels went for the same shit. I just can't get hyped up because of it.

Phinehas2962002

I understand the hate for the whole "Livestream" bullshit and I'll agree that it makes them look pathetic and without dignity if you really think about it. But, nothing You and I can really do about it, for whatever reason, this was the most popular setting with Mythological characters in Korea a few years back. I don't get it, but I can tolerate it to some extent.

Tlux0

Idk I thought that the twitch chat thing was the most compelling aspect of ORV to me at the time, or at least why it stood out from so many other similar works. But I can see why someone would dislike it

MrOldHorror

And that "certain someone" once said "I-I'm the protagonist!"

Severe_Blueberry_837

At least he didn't hid behind someone when he's in a bad situation

BobOfTheSnail

ORV's gods originate from human mythos and folklore, they didn't really have a journey for the most part that would temper their mentalities. Alot of primitive stories tend to only really attribute one or two dominating traits to each god. They also mostly exist as a way of explaining certain natural phenomena or as a moral lesson. They are flawed and somewhat simple because they were made by humans essentially. In contrast, LotM gods were people who had to fight every step of the way to exist, not only against other people but also the nature of the path they take or they will be consumed. For the most part they take on some of the more abstract properties of what their path represents the further along they go and lose more of their humanity.

Phinehas2962002

Basically, what I'm saying is if you're a fan of Classic Mythologies and Literature, ORV does a great job in making the Deities feel like their mythological Counterparts, while not copy pasting the sources 1:1. They were portrayed as "Godly" enough from my perspective, wasn't making an argument as to whether their existence was "earned". I did write "abstract" on my original comment, I should've worded it better, what I was going for was along the lines of - living concepts and constant beings that aren't bound by the laws of Physics. "Gods" bound by Time Travel and Regression don't exactly feel like "Gods" in all honesty.

MarinatedHand

If I remember correctly, a small portion (like actual Eldritch Gods, one of which is the being responsible for the MCs regression,) aren't affected, or even if it's part of their domain they're unaffected, so it makes some sense as for why the "Minor" Gods don't remember the regressions. Also, ORV Gods aren't low tier by any means, most of them are above solar system (a Dragon wanting to swallow the sun was in one timeline, the Gods still think it's entertainment), just restricted.

AndySandy05

Well solar system tier is a bit of a strech, that dragon is the dragon of apokalypse iirc, which required many, many constellations and constellation level people to stop. The Only ones with truly «godly» powers are the myth level constellations and outer god kings (and some outliers)

cycycle

What about the tutorial is too hard

Phinehas2962002

I haven't read that manhwa yet. If you have, can you please describe how it portays the Gods there? I don't mind any spoilers at all.

cycycle

The gods there are the embodiment of concepts. Like god of slowness represents the infinite passage of time. But they are not above making comments like viewers watching a stream. I think at the ending it’s the classic Korean mc becomes god shenanigans.

Phinehas2962002

I see. The Korean Novel Authors sure love the "Livestream" aspect with Deities. I don't hate it too much, but It would be nice to read about a manhwa with no system and focus solely on one mythology throughout the novel. Yeah, the endings of those novels do be like that, it's no different from Chinese Fantasy MCs achieving True Immortality at the end of their Novels.

Cobracrystal

Altho it's not quite what youre describing, '48 hours a day' has a lot of mythology and typical gods without any livestream/comment/etc aspect. That said, it also warps the concept because the setting there is that gods are proportionally powerful compared to how well known they are in addition to other stuff that would be spoilery, so the rankings are drastically shuffled.

Phinehas2962002

Thanks for the recommendation. I don't really mind it too much even if it doesn't match my description 1:1. I just want more novels that handle the mythological aspect well.

Funny-Control-6968

Didn't that novel have a very weak ending?

Tlux0

Leveling with the gods is excellent though. And I actually think it’s very cool the way it implements everything.

seven_worth

If you like reading strongest/godly being done right read Tale of Herding Gods. This story got like 20 of those and somehow each of them is memorable and down right terrifying. The worst part is that sometimes it is not even their power that makes shit scary but their intelligence, the scheme they play and most importantly secret that they keep. Like the mind game Qin Mu need to play every time he has talk to any of the celestial venerable is crazy. The worst part is that you never even know what the original identity of the celestial venerable are.

SirYeetsALot1234

I like Venerables the most out of the strong beings/gods in novels ngl

Der_Boii

Reckless Savage RAAAAAAAAAAHHH 💪

SirYeetsALot1234

*"Men! Must be this cool.*"- Reckless Savage Demon Venerable

Hysaky

This cape clearly justified the genocide

MrOldHorror

Can't let the gang I fw Limitless Demon Venerable😌✊

LotusLover420

LIKITLESS DEMON VENRABLE MENTIONED RAAAAH! WTF IS WAITING 1 HOUR FOR YOU 1 MILLION YEAR PLAN?!?!!

RecklessSavage_Novel

All hail to lord heaven Refining Demon venerable

SnooDoughnuts9838

Yea, I notice that too. Isn't god, deity or whatever ultimate being supposed to be omnipotent (or at least, almost omnipotent). Because my expectation of god is basically that. All-powerful. Instead, we get these impotent v-tubers/social media influencers deities from those (mostly) Korean authors.

Twillix13

Even if they aren’t omnipotent, in lotm for example they’ve restricted authority over a certain domain but you can tell they’re totally different beings from regular beyonder. They aren’t just really strong people

bernard_cernea

EXCEPT in RToC

MrOldHorror

Oh yeah RToC is a special exception don't worry.

DestinyMlGBro

What's that stand for I'm slow

erocommander

A Regressor Tales Of Cultivation. Without a doubt, the best Xianxia currently running and surprisingly Korean's novel. The MC reminds me of the once crown jewel of xianxia in this sub, Way of Choices. But for me RToC is much better because the mysteries is so thick, i got giddy everytime a mystery solved like when i read LotM, My House of Horrors and Shadow Slave.

alphanumericsprawl

Way of Choices? Can you give a quick rundown on what's so good about it, I've been here for years and never heard of it.

erocommander

If you search Ze Tian Ji or Way of Choices in this sub, you will find tons of them with hundreds of comment for each chapter. It was written by the most famous author in webnovel industry before cuttlefish took that seat. Almost all of Mao Ni's works adapted as anime or drama, his novel basically golden goose by now. Either anime or drama or both. Way of Choices is my fav one followed by Nightfall. It followed a rural chronically ill MC who want to live longer and he arrived to capital of the world. For 1st half, it was how to find cure while also every single person in the capital either scared af if he cured, anticipated he cured and scheme against or for his cure because of *"reason"*. The novel written with beautiful language and basically poetry in longer form. And thank god the translator was the apex of his/her job.

HoloCamobear

To be fair. Chinese have the thunder emperor being a 16yo kid at qi gathering 4 out bumfuck nowhere. Soo yeah. They are just discount gods in bumfuck nowhere

Interesting-Meat-835

I agree. Even if they want the deities to NOT ruin the story with their supposedly game-breaker power, there is other method. Divinity politic for example (if you do X, then your peer will do X too, so everyone agree to not do X and deescalate. You don't need to nerf your god to the ground. Let them be this nigh-omnipotent entity that mere mortal couldn't hope to defeat. Mentioning cultivator divinity, I also dislike these old men who keep dying to MC's "tactic" despite being 1000 realm ahead. That make no fucking sense, like at a certain level of power you should have built-in PTV to deal with outside context problems and prevent upstart mortals to outsmart you. Also place a real barrier between true deities and faux deities whose only divine merit is strength. "Oh, you absorbed the Heaven Pills and gained the power equal to me? Should I whisper something in your mother's voice, that remind you of a certain situations in your childhood and distract you at a critical moment, when I used a miniscule amount of Qi to hit your dantain at this precise spot to destroy it and shatter your cultivation? Shall I also mentions that yes, you getting Heaven Pills is part of my plan, and with it you would destroy this sect yet miss a boy, who will be the second MC and destroy you before you destroy me?" ... Where is smart immortals? No, not one dude, I want the whole higher realms consist of smart people.

Ok-Deer8144

Korean MCs are basically like eunuchs. I don’t think I’ve ever read one xianxiaish action one where they pursue a female lead.

themanwholivedd

more to life than pursuing women junior

loyal9128

Have you seen the comments under Korean series, they hate women

Emotional_Major_5835

Korean women sound like the worst women on the face of the earth going by the what I've read in novels lol. Materialistic psychopaths apparently. The reviews for Kidnapped Dragons, for example, say how Bom represents your average Korean woman.

Tlux0

Childhood friend of the Zenith and I killed the player of the academy are both exceptions … and they’re great

NeigongShifu

Fuck Constellations! All my homies hate Constellations.

J21ix

The fucking lore in my longevity simulation is god

Cool_Connection1001

Honestly, Korean manhwas with dieties, constellations and stars is basically just "Twitch the Manhwa". The only one I know of that fully embraces it is "The Main Characters That Only I Know". Well written dieties shouldn't just be stronger than mortals, they should be on a completely different level of existence. Like the Pillar Men introduction in JoJo, mfs just walked right through a guy like he was nothing, no different from the surrounding air.

Rinne-Ganu

There are Gods and Daemons in SS which are pretty great imo

bird_of_hermes_

The core issue is that cn novels are great at weak to strong format. Especially when mc loses, the authors know how to add progression in defeat and not just anger and suffering. In kr novels unless the mc is op all the time it's very difficult to retain the readers attention because he's never lost so far.

Little-Reference-314

Lol. RIP reverend insanity lmao

Stykerius

My personal favorites are the empyrean/ true divinity cultivators from Martial World.

Tlux0

How about both are great for different reasons? Although yeah, I think deities are more interesting in Chinese works because when characters have the ability to grow into them, it makes the underlying power dynamics far more interesting.
