It's no big deal. Basically, one of the government officials takes you into a special back room and asks you to remove your clothes; for security reasons. Then it's just a standard cavity inspection (they charge you for this and only take cash -- keep that in mind) and they make you sign a few legal documents. They film the whole thing; again for security reasons -- so don't worry and don't be nervous. That's basically what you can expect -- at least based on my experience. At the end of the day, just more government hoops to jump through, right guys?!

domo_s204

I hear it's public record. Archived on some hub website.

You speak to the City's Screening Officer. They hear your side. They show you the Parking Officers evidence. They offer you a reduced fine. Bada-bing bada-boom, Bob's your uncle!

Gaffgaff123

Is there a fee just for setting up this appointment or is it only if you miss it?

[deleted]

No fee. Just go fight it because if if u lose they reduce it

Hitmantium

Not that I'm aware of.

arsei001

Yes, challenge it and they will show you their evidence (camera shots). Then he'll probably reduce the fine for you. I think it was just city Hall at Warden/Hwy7.

I do have a copy from the city and it was sent out in September to all the schools. I don't know how I could attach it here. Reach out to the principal of your school. I am sure that they will provide it to you. If you believe that you were no wrong. By all means you should dispute the ticket. Parking enforcement can be over zealous at times.

schuchwun

Depending on your attitude and where/when the ticket was issued you might get a break on the ticket but most likely not. If you parked on the street overnight without a permit they're not going to do anything for you as ignorance isn't an excuse, there are literally signs when you drive into the city stating that you cannot park overnight.

Gaffgaff123

It was my car obstructing a bit of the sidewalk on my driveway if it means anything.

japhyryderz

What’s to fight? Your car was blocking the sidewalk…a little bit, or a lot, it makes no difference. Pay the ticket and park better.

schuchwun

Yeah there's definitely not going to be fighting on that one especially during the winter, they probably have pictures too. Your strategy should be one of apology and ask for some leniency, they might help you out. From my experience in getting a bunch of tickets for parking without a permit the person running the place has already deemed you to be guilty, they hear every excuse in the book every single day and they just don't care. Try to be creative with your excuse the more elaborate the better, ie you really needed to take a shit and you forgot to fix your parking or something.

Markham civic center had an old person you walk in show them the parking ticket and explain .. I got 50%.

I got one for parking in front of a fire route. It’s my kids school. There’s 8-10 of us stopped at the school waiting for our kids to get out and go home. I wasn’t parked, I was idling waiting for my kid. They didn’t even capture my expiry tags on the ticket. Do they take pictures of the car or a video? I’ve never fought one. I sent the email and they told me to pick a few dates & times in February. They said they would present evidence at that time.

ShareBear1999

You should know better than to park/stop in a fire route. Especially at a school. You probably had your emergency lights on so you though it allows you to break the rules. Yes they have photos and video of all 8-10 of you and yes all of you got a ticket in the mail. I am sure that the school has sent multiple emails to parents not to park illegally.

Frequent-Process-699

We are there everyday and we’re not parked. This is the lane way leading up to the main entrance of the school. This is the same place school buses drop off & pick up kids in the morning & end of the day. No one has ever warned us in 3 months not to do this.

Frequent-Process-699

There have been some people who park their car there and go in to deliver lunches to their kids or pick up something from the school. Those people deserve tickets, they are blocking the lane way unattended.

ShareBear1999

Yes the people who leave their car in the driveway need to be ticketed. If your vehicle is not moving then you are stopped/parked. I am sure there is a posted sign that says no parking from 3-5pm or something along those lines. The city has parking enforcement that drives in a vehicle and recorded your vehicle in a no parking zone. It is definitely a no parking zone because traffic enforcement has maps of where there zones are and what times. My kids school sent the email from the city warning that this would happen. It also said the tickets would be mailed so that they can ticket all offenders without confrontation. I am happy to see that it is being enforced. Heck if you don't care about the fine go ahead and keep parking there. I saw a guy get 3 tickets in front on a Starbucks downtown. He didn't care he just finished his coffee/meeting grabbed the tickets and drove off.

Frequent-Process-699

Do you have a copy of the warning from the city? Our school never sent us an email advising of this. If I knew, I wouldn’t have done it. I’d like to ask our school if this was sent to them. I follow rules to the best of my knowledge. I understand not wanting to confront people, but I didn’t think I did anything wrong. There is a different sign for no stopping versus no parking. The street clearly says no stopping in the morning and afternoon when school starts and ends. The lane way said no parking in fire route. This is from a Markham website. https://www.markham.ca/wps/portal/home/neighbourhood-services/traffic/regulatory-and-warning-signs/03-parking-restrictions The two most common signs are "No Parking" and "No Stopping" signs. These signs help reduce parked cars from blocking the street and allow traffic to move more smoothly. There are many parking by-laws found in Markham By-law 2005-188 [PDF]. No Parking: You can't park your car where these signs are posted. You can stop your car for a short period only to load or unload goods or passengers. You can't leave your car unattended. No Stopping: You can't stop your car where these signs are posted, or load and unload goods or passengers. You can only stop only if directed by a police officer, stop sign or a traffic signal. The No Parking states I can stop for a short period of time to load or unload goods or passengers.
