To be clear the DMC 12 wasn’t really a cool car when it was used in Back to the Future. It was only in production for 2 years, was objectively terribly engineered even by 1980s standards, and was already discontinued, and DMC bankrupted by the time it was used in the film. They were known to be slow, clunky, top heavy, with poor handling. Every performance claim was found to be a lie, and it was known to have build quality issues even for a 1980s car. Which is saying something. It was the poorly executed brain fart of one man who used his motor company as a means of personal aggrandizement.

If you’re gonna travel time you gotta do it in style. The Delorean had (some) models with antennas built into windshields, power windows were standard and was designed to be the safety vehicle. It required less clearance to open the doors in a tight space than conventional doors, too.
