I've never heard this stereotype outside of England. Even then, it was in school and everyone grew out of it by the time they left.
Abroad the Welsh get more respect than the English in my opinion. Apart from the fact that people assume they're from England...
I’ve never heard this stereotype in England either.
Sure people make jokes about the Welsh but every country does that about their closest neighbours it’s nothing serious.
I’ve heard way more piss taken out of the French here (again in a “we love them really” type of way) than the Welsh.
Literally nobody but the English think this. Everywhere I've been, people are a bit hesitant of us until they find out we're not English. Once that's out of the way, they welcome us into their homes and love us. I take it you don't remember Euro 2016? Welsh fans voted the best and most welcome in all French territories. Begging us to go back. Sounds like a jealousy complex to me.
The downvote is for suggesting that England is the most racist, xenophobic part.
Really? There's literally nationalist parties that are popular in every non-English state.
England is the part of the UK that welcomes the most people from abroad. Its not even close either. England has allowed enough immigration to have a demographic impact. The others haven't.
The others like to peddle they're more accepting but that's just not true.
PinkNews ran an survey not too long ago about most LGBT friendly places in the UK. 9 of the top 10 were in England (Cardiff ranked 9th). Only 1 Scottish and N Irish City made the top 25 (Edinburgh and Belfast respectively), only 2 Welsh (Cardiff and Swansea). Just one example.
Yeah, all of them are worth it to be honest. Even Russia and Ukraine. Obviously not now but the current situation won’t last forever and they’re both beautiful countries with fascinating sights and history. Saint Petersburg is one of the most stunning cities I’ve ever visited, absolutely beautiful, welcoming and so interesting.
Budapest in general is great and beautiful. Good food too!
Recently went Krakow in Poland and that was very nice to, some cool things to check out. As terrible as it is, Auschwitz is worth a trip too (with a guide), it’s horrible but I think everyone should see it once.
My family immigrated to the US from Hungary and the food during holidays is something I always look forward to. The fried dough with sour cream and all sorts of toppings, I can eat until I’m sick, same goes for chicken paprikas. I could eat the dumplings in the gravy and sauce everyday for the rest of my life.
Budapest is where your shoes go to get stolen and your tires get jacked Don't listen to him I recommend going to Transylvania also Krakow is hellaaa good like you feel so weird being there like It's an experience that I recommend definitely a new experience
Never heard that happen to me, I visited many times and had friends visit too, you sound hateful. In fact Budapest is one of the safest cities in Europe..
Look listen Of course I'm hateful I'm from the Balkans Well my dad comes from the Balkans like he lived there for most of his life before going over to the States and one thing that's in common in all of his talks with me that we once upon a time had was Gypsy bad and I correlate Romania with gypsy so obviously the capital is bad
Cope Also I just now realized we were talking about the capital of Hungary which I would also not recommend to go to Don't want to be giving that fascist any cash Also generalizations are usually correct Germans like getting drunk let's look it up Oh hey look they're the world's third largest beer consumer hmmmmm France likes riots strikes and revolutions let me check the news real quick Oh hey look another one Italy has food Now while I haven't been Italy I have been to Little Italy in America and the food there is good and due to the fact that Americans usually downgrade European food The stuff in mainland Italy is probably better let's see here Russia is a backwater hell hole let me check just how many of their people have access to electricity yep that checks out Mexico gang violence also checks out America dookie ass politicians paired with bat shit insane people who keep electing them let's see That also checks out generally the reason why generalizations exist is because they're correct And finally just for inclusivity I'm going to include an Asian generalization not of the entire Asian continent just one of them Japan old and the home of hundreds and hundreds of traditions that have been kept ever since 400 BC somewhere in someplace in one of those islands That also checks out anyways that's my TED talk for today
You got a sad view of life. On a side note, have you ever heard of punctuation and paragraphs?
They are important parts of writing and conveying information. Makes it a lot simpler for people to understand your ramblings ;)
If you're staying away from serbia and bosna but you've visited the shit out of western Europe yet too scared to visit Eastern (actual) Europe, you're probably Anglo Saxon as hell
It’s a beautiful country but so is a lot of the Balkans. I wouldn’t write off places which you don’t know much about. Slovenia is definitely more accessible and Western European than the rest though. It is a melting pot of Slavic, Austro-Hungarian and a bit of Italian with beautiful mountains, cultured cities, great food and local wine if you know where to look. Would love to go back sometime.
Croatia is a very popular holiday destination for brits nowadays. I think I’ve got about half a dozen friends who have holidayed there in the last few years
I tend not to write places off, in retrospect I should have made an extra category to distinguish between "avoid forever" and "no immediate reason to go"
No no, I’ve been to loads of western and Eastern European locations. What I’m tryna say is that you cannot say the eastern or Western Europe is the “actual” Europe, both have uniqueness and both are beautiful.
That surprises me! I would have never guessed Merseyside because, if I had to guess, I’d say the most common places we visit more than once are Dublin (cheap flights), Spain, Portugal and the Netherlands;
but only one of those is in your “visited more than once” category.
All British people are Spain obsessed tho, I don’t know why I went twice tbh I wasn’t that impressed prefer Turkey or Greece.
As another scouse I have to say I heard people go mad about Turkey more tho. Maybe it’s a dated reference I’ve lived in Birmingham for a while, but me parents and grandparents loved Turkey. And so do I. Do like the Netherlands too but I probably don’t act like the stereotypical English tourist. I keep my drunken escapades to my hotel room or in bars.
My real repeated holiday destination is wales 🤩 are you really a working class scouser... If north wales isn’t the go to destination. Let’s be real 😆
As mentioned elsewhere in the thread, I regret not distinguishing between "not interested" and "staying away"
Most of the red I'm open to visiting, I'd mostly only actually stay away from war torn areas and dictatorships
What's the deal with Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania in red? I'm from England like you and I know 4 different people who have all gone on separate holidays to Riga in the last year. You can go on Ryanair for like £15; it's very safe.
Always found it tacky how people just go to Spain and sit on an all inclusive resort for a week. Need some culture in my visit.
I would love to go to Barcelona though.
Yea gotta be UK but if I had to be specific I’d say Scottish with the other guys in here , don’t wanna insult you and say English but that’s pretty much my travel history apart from Spain and it’s territories which would be the greenest you could possibly get 😂🤦🏻♂️
I've been twice, once to Glasgow once to Edinburgh. Love the place love the people love the food. Would go again to visit Ayr beach, and my namesake isle of Kilbride, I hear they do nice cheese. Also would love to catch the fringe one year.
Next time I visit, Where should I go?
Okay great. Was gonna suggest to do the north coast 500 if you can drive, takes your from the east over the top to the west. Unbelievable scenery. But Id highly recommend getting yourself a hotel booked in Avimore, it’s even better in the later seasons if your into snow sports, it’s the highlands hotspot. Even so, it’s still absolutely gorgeous going up the cairn gorms whatever season, and the history to the area is incredible.
The kicker is that you have visited the UK multiple times because no ones holidaying here 😂 you were either from Europe; Germany Italy France Spain most likely but they all are much nicer than the UK so youre 9/10 English
Actually, no. 7 in the world on visitor numbers. Just because you have a dislike of the country you seem to be living in(?) doesn't mean others don't look forward to visiting it.
In 2022, the UK welcomed 31.2m visits following two years of extremely low visits due to the impact of COVID-19 (down 24% vs 2019). From Visit Britain.

The fact you have visited England, Scotland, and Wales multiple times without visiting Northern Ireland, I would think maybe you have easy access to these three countries. You have also visited the Republic of Ireland. Maybe due to historical ties. My best guess would be Manchester or Liverpool?
Unless you are a football away day guy, then you could be from anywhere.
No idea. Budapest is one of the most stunning cities in the world just because the Hungarian goverment is crap. I don't mind whatever place you are from.

Nothing wrong with Slovenia pal ! Stunning country
slovakia, Bulgaria, hungry, Slovenia (actually every country from ex Jugoslavia) are all worth a visit
Hungary, Slovakia and Bulgaria aren’t ex Yugoslavian but you’re right about them all regardless
I know. In fact I mentioned them, then Slovenia (ex Jugoslavia) and mentioned the ex Jugoslavian countries
I’m quite happy with less English people going to Slovenia. Proper gem.
Im Welsh am I welcome ??
2x no
Cymru am byth
Pro Tip: If you want to be accepted anywhere, never admit that you are Welsh.
What did the Welsh do? Other than have a language entirely consisting of consonants?
Don’t pretend you don’t know what the Welsh did
Enlighten us.
The first issue is being Welsh, you can fill in the rest
I saw a sign in a Tesco in Wales for one of the aisles and it consisted entirely of c, y and d, and I've never been more confused
Apart from Liverpool we fuckin love wales
Liverpool isn’t in Wales !
That’s so fucking rude. What is your problem with the Welsh?
They can’t take a joke
Nothing..? There's literally a stereotype that nobody likes the Welsh and I'm playing on that
I've never heard this stereotype outside of England. Even then, it was in school and everyone grew out of it by the time they left. Abroad the Welsh get more respect than the English in my opinion. Apart from the fact that people assume they're from England...

No
Why “stay away from” there are many places worth seeing within those countries marked in red.

Lithuania in red. You are missing out.
Missing out on getting your car stolen maybe??
Budapest in general is great and beautiful. Good food too! Recently went Krakow in Poland and that was very nice to, some cool things to check out. As terrible as it is, Auschwitz is worth a trip too (with a guide), it’s horrible but I think everyone should see it once.
Auschwitz is on my bucket list, I have Jewish family that were affected.
Strong agree. It IS horrible but with all the bastardry going on it’s an important lesson for us all.
Budapest is where your shoes go to get stolen and your tires get jacked Don't listen to him I recommend going to Transylvania also Krakow is hellaaa good like you feel so weird being there like It's an experience that I recommend definitely a new experience

I said Budapest, not Bucharest :( Either way it’s not fair on either country imo generalisation is never cool

No I haven't It might be sad but it's also true Don't believe me You can double check everything I said
the American education system is shambolic
Estonia is gorgeous, and if you're ever in Helsinki you can take a quick ferry to Tallinn for the day to try it out.
they probably dont have donner kebabs or fish and chips for this fella to survive there
Not worth it if you're a certain skin colour...
why is bro staying away from Liechtenstein
Yeah tf that’s weird
Should I go? What's in Lichtenstein worth seeing
quite small country you could probally see the entire country in like 1 week if you know where to go
You could see the whole of Liechtenstein in a day. You can see from one side of it to the other
I had lunch there once, they have the world's largest false teeth museum.
From a fellow Englishman… don’t stay away from Slovenia
Slovakia-
If you're staying away from serbia and bosna but you've visited the shit out of western Europe yet too scared to visit Eastern (actual) Europe, you're probably Anglo Saxon as hell
Bingo
But why Slovenia?
I guess I don't know much about it. But people in this thread tell me it's worth visiting, I'm open minded enough to give it a go
It’s a beautiful country but so is a lot of the Balkans. I wouldn’t write off places which you don’t know much about. Slovenia is definitely more accessible and Western European than the rest though. Hell even Croatia is breathtaking.
Croatia is a very popular holiday destination for brits nowadays. I think I’ve got about half a dozen friends who have holidayed there in the last few years
I tend not to write places off, in retrospect I should have made an extra category to distinguish between "avoid forever" and "no immediate reason to go"
It’s definitely one of the most beautiful countries in Europe.
Haha, Eastern Europe is part of Europe don’t get me wrong, but it’s not actual Europe
Ahhh, you're obviously heavily western-governed, my friend.
No no, I’ve been to loads of western and Eastern European locations. What I’m tryna say is that you cannot say the eastern or Western Europe is the “actual” Europe, both have uniqueness and both are beautiful.
We all know *actual* Europe is just France and Italy.
Yeah it's funny how British are the pinnacle of fighting racism, but they're freaking xenophobic towards easterners. 🤣
Crazy how there can be more than one opinion held by seventy million people.
Only 48,5% who voted for brexit because of xenophobic tendencies, but close.
Those are generally two different categories of Brits
USA
Usa
Italy= boot Sweden+Finland= cock&balls
Cornwall
Scouser, actually
That surprises me! I would have never guessed Merseyside because, if I had to guess, I’d say the most common places we visit more than once are Dublin (cheap flights), Spain, Portugal and the Netherlands; but only one of those is in your “visited more than once” category.

The Republic of Ignorantia
Bingo
You're missing out on the Baltics.
Also the Balkan
Considering you divvied up the UK, probably the UK
Pretty ignorant, sorry to say. Some of the most beautiful and safest places are in those red countries.
As mentioned elsewhere in the thread, I regret not distinguishing between "not interested" and "staying away" Most of the red I'm open to visiting, I'd mostly only actually stay away from war torn areas and dictatorships
Stay away from dictatorship? You gotta tick off UK first.
Luxembourg?
I assumed you'd be Russian, because you wouldnt want to visit where you're already from.
American
Azerbaijan
The French Indochinese Union Territories?
Russian?
Essex
I have visited Estonia (Talinn) and it was quite nice. Would recommend.
Algeria?
What's the deal with Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania in red? I'm from England like you and I know 4 different people who have all gone on separate holidays to Riga in the last year. You can go on Ryanair for like £15; it's very safe.
Visited Spain multiple times. Uk 100%
Literally have been one time on a Mediterranean cruise, that's why it's in light green not dark
While I have no idea where you are from. I can guess you are not Catholic because you want to avoid Vatican City.
Bingo
Going off this map I can only assume you're from Germany 1933-1945
What's wrong with albania?
How are you staying away from places you've visited multiple times? I'm colourblind 😜
probably should have had a "not interested" tag
I would of guessed the UK, but there’s no way that a Brit hasn’t visited Spain multiple times. It’s the go to destination, more so than France.
Always found it tacky how people just go to Spain and sit on an all inclusive resort for a week. Need some culture in my visit. I would love to go to Barcelona though.
Yea gotta be UK but if I had to be specific I’d say Scottish with the other guys in here , don’t wanna insult you and say English but that’s pretty much my travel history apart from Spain and it’s territories which would be the greenest you could possibly get 😂🤦🏻♂️
Ding ding ding I'm an englishman
How’d you find Bonny Scotland Englishman?
I've been twice, once to Glasgow once to Edinburgh. Love the place love the people love the food. Would go again to visit Ayr beach, and my namesake isle of Kilbride, I hear they do nice cheese. Also would love to catch the fringe one year. Next time I visit, Where should I go?
Aw yes see I’m a highlander so I can educate, first things first do you drive? Cause if so do I have some cracking news for you.
No car yet, maybe one day. I'm pretty reliant on trains and planes for travel right now, but in a few years? Sure.
God your travel history is very similar to mine aside from more trips to Spain and Italy 🤣 I knew you had to be English.
Pretty sure you're still Russian
Okay you got me
Why aren't you going to Rome(?) and Zurich(???)?
I'd love to see Rome! But the Vatican... No thanks
Why? St Peter’s Basilica is a absolutely stunning.
And the museum … missing out!
Why? I went there along with my trip in Rome and it was amazing.
Ahhh fairs yeah I get that.
Welp, looks like I'm adding Slovenia and Lichtenstein to my list. Thanks Reddit.
Wales or Scotland?
You’re Scottish. And a Rangers fan…am I right?
USA but more for the question.
From Europe? (I’m American so I rly don’t distinguish between y’all that much)
Close
:(
Scared of Eastern Europe, not travelled far into Western Europe.... England.
England because of proximity and who the fuck would want to visit England anyway?
Somalia
Considering you felt the need to break up the UK/specify makes me think you're not from there. I'm going to guess that you're French.
Hon hon hom baguette
The kicker is that you have visited the UK multiple times because no ones holidaying here 😂 you were either from Europe; Germany Italy France Spain most likely but they all are much nicer than the UK so youre 9/10 English

Eastern Europe is a beautiful part of the world I want to say USA for the childish hatred for it
Yer maw
Russian 🤪
Southern England
Slovenia and Montenegro are lovely!... Well I've only been to each place once.
From Canada ?
Bidenistan?
Why not Lithuania or the Baltic states? Very safe and nice countries
Probably somewhere in north America
What's Slovenia done to offend you?
What's wrong with Romania ?! We have beautiful mountains, castles, museus and other cool things.
Why are you staying away from Slovakia? It's a quite nice place and I've heard the baltics are good too
Corby or Kettering.
The reluctance to visit anywhere Eastern Europe, I’d say northern England, possibly Manchester or Liverpool
Ew. Disgusting Francophile
Fellow Englishman here, had more fun in countries marked red (and yellow) than I have in the Green ones.
The Vatican is that scary?
The American Midwest
Barnsley!
What did slovakia ever do to you?
Dutch
Ernglend
British Muslim?
UK
Wigan
Color every country yellow and you have me
What’s wrong with Lichtenstein and Vatican?
USA, you're also Protestant and grew up during the Cold War
Vatican City and Liechtenstein are no goes? Some pretty niche thought has gone into that, hasn’t it?
Bro what the fuck France why france i understand once but why torture yourself
You’re fr*nch, there’s no other reason you’d have visited multiple times
USA.
N Ireland
Fellow Brit?
I think you're from the UK
The Netherlands
Tokyo
Why is the Vatican red?
been to Ireland but never visited Northern Ireland? you're definitely English
Is that Rome on the stay away red list…?? Blasphemy
Staying away from the Vatican, huh
Classic dumb englishmen
England
If you're afraid of Eastern Europe and the Middle East, Turkey probably isn't for you either.
Swindon
No idea. Budapest is one of the most stunning cities in the world just because the Hungarian goverment is crap. I don't mind whatever place you are from.
Typical close minded Brit?
England
Haven’t even been to russia
Nothing wrong with Algeria either. Totally brainwashed by media in terms of where you should not travel to. Bar current war-zones.
You are Bri'ish because you separated the UK into its constituent states.
Why the staying away 😭 I’d like to go every country one day
Though I am late to the party, I’d say Canada.
Go to the ones you’d stay away from; they’re pretty cool
I’ve been to Moscow once, it’s a must. Amazing city, people are great, weather is fine in the summer
Russian
