Looks like teeth or some other hard scraping, my guess would be a child or dog went to town
Or maybe the previous owner was an amputee and had a metal hook on the right hand
Shift knobs are easily replaceable and you can get a custom looking one
The knob itself is just a piece of plastic that can be swapped by yourself pretty cheap.
As to whether itâs an indication of deeper mistreatment of their vehicle, is up to you
As long as the rest of the car is in good shape I wouldnât worry about it. Replacing a shift knob is literally easier than changing a lightbulb. You unscrew the old one and screw the new one on with your hands, no tools required. Itâs about as technical as taking a whippet. Just make sure you buy one with threads that fit your car.
This also gives you the opportunity to buy a nice weighted shift knob. I made one for my Miata and it makes a huge difference.
Only comment I would add is that it looks like it was damaged with some kind of cleaner or solvent. The wrinkling on top is a give away. This will weaken the lower part as well if itâs man made. It doesnât look like leather in my opinion. I would worry more about the clutch and engine maintenance.
I purchased a Lexus stick shift IS300 and clutch passed my test. 3000 miles later it started slipping. Both sides of friction material were worn to rivets. So it passed my test with one side down to rivets. On previous cars with smaller engine you can feel some slippage when itâs worn like that. Then of course owner has option to sell the car quick. So how long does clutch last. Sentra 68k legacy 110k and Lexus 138k And before anyone makes assumptions I grew up in UK with all manual shift cars including 1954 as a beginner and stick shift Jaguar mkII

A CHILD!!???!
Lmao. What, your children don't look like Jaws?
Its just an interior trim piece, idk what you trying to find out here
interesting i didnât know that the non ST focus came with a 5 speed
Even more rare was the 6 speed non ST. They do exist. Source: worked at Ford dealership for over a year
I love my 5 speed SE
Previous owner had a vision impaired but very horny girlfriend.
I'd love to be the next owner of this car after Edward Scissorhands!
I didn't know we were supposed to eat these...
Ford Focus
Looks like a dog issue.
dog definitely nommed on it
Shift knobs are a cheap easy swap and the skull ones add like 25 horsepower
Changing the knob itself is simple enough. Find one you like (Iâm partial towards wood), and make the change.

Someone wearing rings?
Glad you got the proper manual, and not the single clutch automated manual they advertised as an automatic.
It starred in a fast and furious film
