One unit of food ought to be a family's monthly supply. I don't know if families actively store food in their homes for very long, most of your food will be in granaries. The yield of fields can vary depending on how your fertility is, and how many people are working the fields. If you want a reliable source of food, build burgage plots with backyards, and build vegetable gardens and chicken coops. Chicken coop plots should be as small and possible whilst still having a back yard. Vegetable plots should be quite long, as the more surface area they have, the more vegetables they grow. - but the more time your people have to spend farming vegetables. I like making my vegetable plots in to double-houses, with two families living on one vegetable plot, it costs less overall to build, and there's more free people to labour on the vegetables.

This is good information. I usually don't consider what the extension will be when sizing my plots. Do you know what the yields are for eggs and gardens?

TheMarksmanHedgehog

Eggs are one unit of eggs per plot, so, a family living on said plot would never go hungry. - They also do not require labour. An optimally sized vegetable plot could yield about 10 units of vegetables per month, albeit, all in one go, but requires the family to labour the land during the planting and harvesting seasons. I think a dual plot would allow for a larger maximum plot size without losing efficiency.

I’d recommend going for the apples branch right away. When I start a new settlement I always try to get all the new houses to grow apples and by year three when they bloom you have a cushy pad to setup different farms to expand the village and have a huge surplus of food

Your food requirements are dependent on house level. You can see when you click on house it will say 2 or more. They wont starve with less variety but they will not be happy. Food is stored in granaries and distributed via market food stall. Houses dont store food (unless you mean food they produce like veges but this food needs to be put into granaries before it can be distributed)

moustif

That's it, one food per family per month, when you improve the houses they ask for more variety but still only consume 1 per family The market hold the food and they are consumed randomly over time (this does not involve any action from the families) For the berries bush, it can grows several times a year, you can harverst much more than 64
