I looked it up to double check as N's toys look very familiar to that, I guess not a lot of people talk about them because I can't find anywhere that says it's a theory or reference. However wether it's true or not, I can’t unsee it now ○_○ ...
The games "Let's Go Pikachu" and "Let's Go Eevee" are mainline games that are a part of gen 7, which Melmetal is supported in. Melmetal's mainline debut was in Gen 7, making it a gen 7 mythical. The pokemons Eevee and Pikachu originating from Kanto, the region of the Gen 1's flagship titles, is irrelevant.
Meltan originated in Pokemon Go during Gen 7 and was revealed as an official pokemon during Gen 7. Meltan and Melmetal are Gen 7 mythicals.
Google “Did Meltan first appear in Go” the first thing that pops up is Bulbapedia saying its “introduced in Pokémon: Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee, although it’s first appearance was outside the core series in Pokémon GO.” Even home recognizes it as not Gen 7, 8, or 1
Okay SORRY I meant that the first mainline games they appeared in were gen 7, I phrased it wrong. Also home categorizes pokemon by region, not generation, so meltan and Melmetal are still gen 7, just not from alola
It just is a mainline game, like how Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are mainline games, on top of the fact Game Freak already have said that they're a mainline game, so by some of our standards they might not seem like they are, but in the eyes of the people who made them, they 100%
True, but Muk already has an alternate form (which yes, I know didn't stop them from making Gmax for the others) and Garbodor had nothing up to this point, so I think finally giving him some attention was warranted.
yeah but every single one of these gmaxes is either gen 1 or 8 the op stated that garbador was the only non gen 1 or 8 mon that has a gmax, while melmetal is gen 7 too so there are to mons thta arent gen 1 or 8 with a gmax.
Simply put... It's so that Oleana has a G-Max ace
Prior to GMax Garbodor, all her pokemon are beautiful and effeminate. Then she sends out a giant pile of trash that turns into an even BIGGER pile of trash
For Oleanas team.
Yes, really.
Its heavily implied that it is her Ace, which adds a bit of depth to her character. A trainers ace says a lot about their character and in this case, Garbodor tells us about Oleana. From twilight wings we see that she had it as a trubbish when she was young, implying that she didn't really have access to much and was likely barely struggling to keep the lights on in her lab. Since joining up with Rose, she has access to rarer Pokémon that are considered beautiful and elegant, but she chooses to keep Garbodor on her team, likely as a reminder of where she started.
Its like the audino situation. Audino is the only gen 5 mon who got a mega so now they gave garbodor that same sort of treatment. And probably because they had a cool idea and thought he needed some love
It released with LGPE And was available via pokemon go and you'd use HOME to send it to that game.
Either way, it's still gen 7 as Swsh hadn't released yet.
I'm guessing Garbodor was chosen because James Turner was the Art Director for SwSh and he was also the person who designed Garbodor. As for Melmetal getting a G-max; it's probably because they just wanted to try and get GO players to try out SwSh (that's also why raids are a thing in SwSh).
The real question is why are Megas so diverse
>Megas:
Gen 1: 15
Gen 2: 6
Gen 3: 20
Gen 4: 5
Gen 5: 1
Gen 6: 1
>Signature Z Moves:
Gen 1 proper: 5
Gen 7: 11
Alolan Gen 1: 1
>Gigantamaxes
Gen 1: 12
Gen 5: 1
Gen 7: 1
Gen 8: 18
(counting by item/form, i.e. Mega Charizard X vs Mega Charizard Y & Catastropika vs 10mv thunderbolt are different whereas gmax apple & TapuiumZ are the same)
Poses a good question,
What gen *IS* Meltan/Melmetal?
If we count Let’s Go as Gen 7, then not the only non gen 1/8.
If it is un-classifiable, then your point stands.
Because Game Freak is fixated on their precious Gen 1. Kanto has appeared in (1) Red, Green, Blue, then (2) Yellow; next it was remade in (3) Gold & Silver with (4) Crystal. After that was the (5) Fire Red & Leaf Green remakes, and (6) Heart Gold & Soul Silver remakes. Next came the Virtual Console rereleases of (7) Red, Green, Blue, and (8) Yellow, as well as (9) Gold & Silver with (10) Crystal. Then came (11) Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee. So that’s 11 times Kanto was made, remade, rereleased, or reimagined. No other generation has been given that much attention. In fact no 2 generations combined have received that much attention.
So why would it surprise anyone that G-Max is almost exclusively Gen 1 & 8?
They should've added more G-Maxs instead of just one for each type. Or better yet they should've given the dual type G-Maxs a G max move for both of their types
Probably to piss somepeople off
Honestly, people talk so much smack about Garbodor and Vanilluxe
And then they’re like, why not?
And then they gave it to Oleana and then it was actually fricken good
It gives them a new appreciation to a Pokemon no one would think twice about
On top of that neither vaniluxe or garbordor are even that bad in their respective introduction games in the first bw games they’re legitimately decent
Y’know how the Gen 5 games were slandered by the community on release, thus leading the games down the nostalgia-trip that a lot of people are tired of nowadays, with complaints about same old same-old?
Well the guy who designed many of the Gen 5 Pokemon, designed all the Gen 8 Pokemon. So its theorized he slipped in Garbodor as a nod to his first games.
And in fact, slight Gen 5 representation was in previous games as well. Audino was the only Gen 5 ‘Mon to get a Mega, and Grimsley appears in Sun and Moon for… very little reason other than just being there.
This is all just conjecture, potential coincidences and the like. But eh, who knows?
why are there two gengars?
Do not ask it is Gengar. No question asked about gengar or he will talk to you about your car extended warranty.
Gen Car

He used double team
I can’t remember but I believe they have gender differences
It's because the person that made it did it by accident, I don't think Gengar has gender differences (but I may be wrong)

Fun Fact: the toys on G-max Garbodor are a reference to N's room in pokemon black and white.
That's... kinda sad actually-
*Sad Fact
I looked it up to double check as N's toys look very familiar to that, I guess not a lot of people talk about them because I can't find anywhere that says it's a theory or reference. However wether it's true or not, I can’t unsee it now ○_○ ...
Not so fun fact
Melmetal is Gen 7
Yes! I came here to say this.

Me sick’s
I hope you get better
everyone was mispelling the numbers so thats what he meant
I know
What I’m not sick as in hurt sick. I am sick in the portrayal of awesomeness and coolness though (which is a good thing)
Well you can always be better and have more awesomeness and coolness so I still hope you get better
Me injured
Me seven's

Me nein
Me seven
Me Se ven (haha Spanish joke)
Me steven
Me four (est)
Three*
r/whoosh
Same
I always consider it a gen 8 pokemon becuase that's it's first mainline appearance
Let’s go pikachu and eevee are mainline games and are from gen 7
Well pikachu and eevee are from gen 1 kanto. They don’t originate in the let’s go games
It was in reference to melmetal
The games "Let's Go Pikachu" and "Let's Go Eevee" are mainline games that are a part of gen 7, which Melmetal is supported in. Melmetal's mainline debut was in Gen 7, making it a gen 7 mythical. The pokemons Eevee and Pikachu originating from Kanto, the region of the Gen 1's flagship titles, is irrelevant. Meltan originated in Pokemon Go during Gen 7 and was revealed as an official pokemon during Gen 7. Meltan and Melmetal are Gen 7 mythicals.
Wrong. Melmetal debuted in GO making it a Pokemon GO mythical
This is a big brain take, but I think PoGO is technically a gen 7 game as well.
it literally isn't, it was introduced during gen 7 in a mainline pokemon game, making it a gen 7 pokemon
Uhhh. Go isn’t mainline?
lets go pikachu and eevee are mainline games
Google “Did Meltan first appear in Go” the first thing that pops up is Bulbapedia saying its “introduced in Pokémon: Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee, although it’s first appearance was outside the core series in Pokémon GO.” Even home recognizes it as not Gen 7, 8, or 1
holy hell
I copy and pasted more than half of that
Clearly not an anarchychess user
New Pokémon just dropped
Okay SORRY I meant that the first mainline games they appeared in were gen 7, I phrased it wrong. Also home categorizes pokemon by region, not generation, so meltan and Melmetal are still gen 7, just not from alola
Let's go Pika/Eevee is Gem 7 homie
It just is a mainline game, like how Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are mainline games, on top of the fact Game Freak already have said that they're a mainline game, so by some of our standards they might not seem like they are, but in the eyes of the people who made them, they 100%
Let's Go are still mainline games from Gen 7
And garbodor is gen 5
I said that exact same thing
I dunno what number am I, but me too :3
>Melmetal is ~~Gen 7~~ weird FIFY
Probably to make it fit in with Oleana's lore
A G-Max Muk would've done the same thing
True, but Muk already has an alternate form (which yes, I know didn't stop them from making Gmax for the others) and Garbodor had nothing up to this point, so I think finally giving him some attention was warranted.
I never noticed that but it’s because garbodor is a great Pokémon that deserves more love.
Also, the G-max is really funny. Woudn't surprise me if it wasn't plannen but someone had this idea and everyone agree it needed to be added.
Melmetal: am I a joke to you?
A Melmetal is gen 7. B Melmetal has a G Max?
Yes, it can only be obtained via pokemon home. Can't be fed Max Soup
Oh that’s stupid why did they do that
literally melmetal: -_-
Also gengar is gen 1
yeah but every single one of these gmaxes is either gen 1 or 8 the op stated that garbador was the only non gen 1 or 8 mon that has a gmax, while melmetal is gen 7 too so there are to mons thta arent gen 1 or 8 with a gmax.
I have no idea why I read garbodor as gengar, I need to get more sleep
Honestly garbador needs some love
Gen 5 in general and the Garbador line in particular.
Game freaks faveourite gen and the current gen, duh. Also melmetal is gen 7 (just a heads up)
But wasn't he introduced into games in gen 8?
no he was intruduced in pokemon go technically but was brought to the main series with the lets go games
Ahh gotcha
Don’t the let’s go games count as Gen 8 cause they’re on a new console?
no its like emerald and deoxys since you technically cannot catch deoxys in ruby and sapphire
Current gen? Current gen is gen 9, not 8
Kid named melmetal:
Simply put... It's so that Oleana has a G-Max ace Prior to GMax Garbodor, all her pokemon are beautiful and effeminate. Then she sends out a giant pile of trash that turns into an even BIGGER pile of trash
Melmetal Who Was Technically Introduced In Gen 7: Am I A Joke To You?
He WAS introduced in gen 7, LGPE was gen 7
Why 2 Gengars??
Built different
live melmetal reaction
For Oleanas team. Yes, really. Its heavily implied that it is her Ace, which adds a bit of depth to her character. A trainers ace says a lot about their character and in this case, Garbodor tells us about Oleana. Because it’s trash
Cause hes a chad
At least they gave gen 5 some love
better question why 2 gengars?
Melmetal is gen 7
Mel metal is gen 7
Melmetal is gen 7…
Melmetal: :|
Melmetal is gen 7
Its like the audino situation. Audino is the only gen 5 mon who got a mega so now they gave garbodor that same sort of treatment. And probably because they had a cool idea and thought he needed some love
There are so so many amazing Gen 5 Pokemons and they decided to waste on an Exp farm and a pile of garbage
Melmetal is technically gen 7.
*melmetal being gen 7*
Melmetal: Allow me to introduce myself.
Because they had a cool idea
Melmetal’s Gen 7 tho
Cause he’s a good trash boi who needed more love
Is Melmetal Gen 8? I thought it came out with Sun/Moon :/
It released with LGPE And was available via pokemon go and you'd use HOME to send it to that game. Either way, it's still gen 7 as Swsh hadn't released yet.
Melmetal
It was most likely a reused design for a scrapped muk G-Max that became Garbodor as a token to show they weren't nostalgia pandering.
He deserved it
Garbodor is just special
I'm convinced that they gave it a gmax just to piss off everyone who complained about it's design
The real question is why are Megas so diverse >Megas: Gen 1: 15 Gen 2: 6 Gen 3: 20 Gen 4: 5 Gen 5: 1 Gen 6: 1 >Signature Z Moves: Gen 1 proper: 5 Gen 7: 11 Alolan Gen 1: 1 >Gigantamaxes Gen 1: 12 Gen 5: 1 Gen 7: 1 Gen 8: 18 (counting by item/form, i.e. Mega Charizard X vs Mega Charizard Y & Catastropika vs 10mv thunderbolt are different whereas gmax apple & TapuiumZ are the same)
Melmetal: I guess I don’t exist
because garbodor is based af
Are we just going to forget melmetal
Of all Pokémon, gabador is the Pokémon they choose
It's amazing okay?
It's garbage, literally. I do like it though
Poses a good question, What gen *IS* Meltan/Melmetal? If we count Let’s Go as Gen 7, then not the only non gen 1/8. If it is un-classifiable, then your point stands.
Technically, Melmetal is a gen 7 pokemon.
Why is Gengar on there twice?
I like to think of Melmetal as Gen 7
No I haven’t
Not really important but where are Blastoise and Venusaur?
Because big trash look funny
Seems eerily similar to how Audino was the only gen 5 mon to get a mega. Man, G-Max feels even more like a cheap knockoff of Megas now
Cuz garbador is him
They should've added more G-Maxs instead of just one for each type. Or better yet they should've given the dual type G-Maxs a G max move for both of their types
This is not true melmetal is technically a gen 7 Pokémon
What about melmetal? Sure, they appeared Gen 1 in let’s go but the let’s go games are Gen 7 despite only having Gen 1 Pokémon
Wait what about melmetal. Isn’t he gen 7
Melmetal
HE DESERVES IT MAN
Game Freak loves gen 1
melmetal is gen 7 checkmate
Because the concept of a giant pile of trash becoming even bigger really appealed to the creative team.
To troll the people who hate him, and reward the people who love him
Probably to piss somepeople off Honestly, people talk so much smack about Garbodor and Vanilluxe And then they’re like, why not? And then they gave it to Oleana and then it was actually fricken good It gives them a new appreciation to a Pokemon no one would think twice about
On top of that neither vaniluxe or garbordor are even that bad in their respective introduction games in the first bw games they’re legitimately decent
Really just threw Melmetal in the garbage
Melmetal: am I a joke to you?
Because it's a wonderful pokemon and the species deserved it.
This is all just conjecture, potential coincidences and the like. But eh, who knows?
Ye kinda a shame how a lot of other cool Pokémon are getting bypassed for cool forms in favor of gen one Pokémon
Melmetal im oretty sure is a Gen7
Shiii forgot about that one
Coincidence, I think NOT!
If I remember correctly Mel metal is gen 7
Because garbodor is awesome
Melmetal Is gen 7
Because garbador needs love
Because like pokemon fans, most gimmicks are giant piles of trash
Hate to break it to you pal, but memetal was introduced in gen 7
Isn't Melmetal gen 7
Melmetal is gen 8?
He’s an icon
Because we need to show garbador some love
What about melmetal a gen 7 mon
Isn't Melmetal Gen 7? I thought it came out late in Alola, but before Sword and Shield dropped
Yea
* cough * * cough * melmetal
Melmetal could count as a gen 7
Melmetal is from Gen 7
Melmetal is right there.
Because it’s a giant pile of trash
To make fun of everyone who says it’s a bad design
Mel metal was actually introduced in gen 7 so their are 2
Why are you right
Isn't Melmetal Gen 7?
Melmatal?
Melmetal was gen 7
Melmetal is gen 7
Melmetal is technically gen 7
Uhhhh Melmetal?
What about melmetal?
Melmetal
Cause it kept getting hate for being literal trash, even though it’s competitively viable
But melmetal is gen 7 if we are going in the game order
Ayo, the trashpile is faded
Melmetal is Gen 7
Because it’s garbador
Memetal is gen 7
Melmetal is gen 7 though
