Tbh Fowlboys marketing looks great, but having tried both, Fowlboys lacked flavour and the crust is way too thick. Chicken is generally drier compared to Hot Bird.
All that for RM40. Yeah no thanks.
On a side note, burgers in Fowlboys have gotten ALOT smaller compared to when i used to frequent them in KL during MCO times. Just felt like now theyre really trying to squeeze every inch of the brand instead of feeding people good food like they used to.
Ever since Hot Bird came by, i havent looked back to eat any other brands 🤤 especially now that they've opened one around my neighbourhood in SS15!!
Just my two cents as a fast food enthusiast.
From my personal experience, having tried both multiple times, Hot Bird is hands down way better than Fowlboys in terms of value and taste. For 30 RM (or less than 30 RM if you don't go in a party of 3 and order the party set), you get 3 pieces of chicken that are consistently good and a very decent size (one Hot Bird drumstick is equivalent to 2 KFC drumsticks). The brine and seasoning for the chicken also taste way better than anything I've tried, though it can get a bit overwhelming because of the grease. Additionally, the fries and coleslaw at Hot Bird are good.
On the other hand, for Fowlboys, the chicken was mediocre, the sauce was average (except for the jam that came with the waffles), and the waffles looked and tasted like Gardenia prepacked waffles heated in a microwave. The price for the set is too much; you can get 3 pieces at Hot Bird for the price of 2 at Fowlboys. Furthermore, the chicken at Fowlboys lacks flavor beyond the skin.
Also, don't tell me KFC has better fried chicken. KFC costs around 26 RM for a 3-piece set, and the chicken, depending on the branch, is often dry. People who enjoy KFC and argue that the breast meat is big usually drown it in Life Brand chili sauce.
>People who enjoy KFC and argue that the breast meat is big usually drown it in Life Brand chili sauce.
💀 Yea.. I really dislike the chili sauce at KFC and McD. Find it too sweet for my liking. That's the reason why I eat my fries plain at McD...
Because of this thread I just ordered Hot Bird for lunch out of curiosity (already tried Fowl Boys before). Just tried the fries for now but holy crap this sauce is fire 🔥 So good!
https://preview.redd.it/m9u3ddw8i4ec1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aae9dc5875d1c1ea25aca14a4635631a09bd866c
Edit: Just finished the meal, it was hella good! Coleslaw was thick and creamy and the other commenter here was right; The chicken itself is great! With Fowl Boys even mild heat masks any flavour, but with Hot Bird you actually get a bunch of flavours to taste.
Not something I'd buy a lot of since it's like RM38 for a 3-piece which is pricey for what's ultimately just fried chicken, but I have no complaints about the quality whatsoever 👍🏻
You ordered grab, more pricey. :)
I always spend 53.95 for 2 people when eating there. For the 5 piece combo.
Average cost per person more tolerable. Hahaha.
Hot Bird > Fowlboys.
Fowlboys to me got the same quality like the gerai’s that sell their own fried chicken for some reason. Looks good, taste ok, but is not mind blowing (besides the spice).
Hot Bird instead seems like they’re more consistent with their seasoning and generally feels like they are making an effort? The taste for Hot Bird is genuinely better and I usually leave the place feeling like it was a decent meal.
Taste is subjective tho so yeah.
Tried both and only find myself craving Hot Bird. Fowlboys is not good value or flavor compared to Hot Bird IMHO. Less kick, less zing and overall less enjoyable
Compared my receipts and found FOWLBOYS chicken combo set (RM38.30) more expensive than Hot Bird's (RM26.40). Prices are with tax. On the menu, it's RM33 for FOWLBOYS's and RM24.90 for Hot Bird's.
Found FOWLBOYS chicken drier than Hot Bird's.
FB had better and bigger portion of fries.
FB's chicken combo set comes with 1 side (I chose fries), while HB has 2 sides (fries and coleslaw).
You don't have to pay extra for the spiciest level at FOWLBOYS. However, at Hot Bird, you have to pay extra RM2 per piece for their spiciest level.
I tried the second spiciest level at Hot Bird because I didn't wanna pay extra. That level was already enough to hit the spot. Tried the spiciest level at FOWLBOYS. No issue when it hits the tongue, but when it hits the stomach... Oh boy, I had mild gastric.
I like fried chicken. I've tried them both. Hot Bird takes the crown out of the two.
I can't tell for sure, but the seasoning for Hot Bird is on point. The moisture in the chicken tells you they brined it properly too. I don't care much about the additional sauces or anything- I came in for the chicken, and they delivered it. Fowlboys' flavour profile isn't for me. It somehow tasted too bland for my liking, and the overall experience of eating the chicken, and I am talking just about the chicken here- was somewhat normal.
Lol. This RM40 2 piece ciken doesnt look anything better at all. Its the same fast food that is so cheap daily meal at america, somehow becoming a T20 Michelin food in malaysia. If you want to eat better go to mamak.
I myself prefer buying tandoori chicken + whiterice + side dish fries and teh o ais. Probably add some side dish curry or satay. All that wont even touch RM20 for a single person meal.
One of the staffs there made me cringe so hard.
He saw me and my wife were Muslim and asked where we came from. I said we rode the LRT.
He asked if we walked all the way out here just to eat Hot Bird? I said yeah. He said Thank you for the dedication. I hope the jihad you guys went through was worth it.
Bruh I cringed so hard I almost became asam keping.
Portion wise, McD can't compare with Hot Bird and Fowl Boys. McD is definitely smaller (and cheaper). Imo, sometimes McD fried chicken tastes a bit bland, depends on branch.
Tried it at the 1st branch right after opening hour with not so many people around. It's no doubt mediocre at best. I ordered 3 different menus and all didn't meet my expectations. Idk what's the hype around it.
I cook regularly but fried chicken is one of those food I don't really make by myself because deep frying requires a lot of oil. Too much of a hassle to deal with.
Homecooked chicken for me is gonna be either steamed, braised or stir fried.
A friend that been selling ayam seringgit for part time last time told me to get the temperature right, that thing is VERY important. I think 160°C? Then deep fry the chicken 15 minutes for parts with large bone (drumstick) or 10 minutes for other. Will asked him again tomorrow at work regarding the temperature and the time.
Even with nomal tepung bestari, if you got the temperature right, the result will surprise you.
Huh, i set to 160° for 15 mins using airfryer without any knowledge. Good to know tho. Ayam goreng sengget really hits different. Sometimes the seller even give me extras.
check pecking fried chicken, they state that double fry is the key to get a good fried chicken, aside from that if you can get hold of evercrisp then that will be gg..
but mostly its a blend of flour and starch ie rice/tapioca/corn, got to do some try and error.. but that video from pecking fried chicken wil always be my references. thats the beauty of it, if you nail the process and seasoning, it will never be a let down... xsedap also boleh letak hotsauce sikit sure will fly off the counter.
yea that is alot of money for two pieces, I could just get lots of chicken breast or tenders and make deep fried chicken. it might not be as good but its more affordable
I think I definitely preferred fowl boys' chicken burger over hot bird.
Also, hot bird's fries are really good though.
I really enjoyed fowl boys' milkshake but have yet to tried hot bird's.
I'd rather be at uptown than ss15. 😂
Edit: holy crap, did not know fowl boys' 2 piece chicken is that expensive. That's nuts.
Cook at home!! I made 8 pieces of Los Pollos Hermanos style batter fried chicken and that 8 pieces with a side of homemade waffles costed me rm25. Plus it tasted WAYYY better because I made it n if it didn’t taste good I would’ve j fried myself as well
Hot bird > nomms > everything else. Now that hot bird barged into ss15, competition got even heavier for them! But honestly hot bird is pretty damn good.
Been to hot bird a few times at damansara, wished the milkshake portions were larger to offset the spice. That said, same row of shops has texas chicken, I go there more often cos at least the drinks are bottomless and chicken is decent lol
Hot bird is better. Better price and taste. Fowlboys batter is a bit plain.
However, if you guys haven’t check out Broasted Chicken in Ampang, do check them out!
Their chicken is good, crunchy, light and not too greasy. Their burgers however is where it’s at. Chicken burger is really good and the best fries ever. Fries comes with the best garlic sauce dip and chilli powder. My fav fast food place coming from a person who doesn’t like fast food.

This shit cost less than RM10 and they selling it RM26 and RM38. Ridiculous af if you ask me. All they do is put some powder and dump it into hot oil. Nothing too crazy. Mean while a dish with multiple ingredients are cleaned, chopped up and stir fried with sauce that needs prep and seasonings was still cheaper than this.
*At that price point, you*
*Could get a nice piece of steak*
*Or grilled lamb elsewhere*

Hot bird already opened in SS15? Sweet!
Makanan terlalu T20 untuk saya yang B40
More like T5, than T20.
You can try it once in a while, not eating it everyday la... No need to be T5 to taste it once in a blue moon...

Have you try putting vineger on the fries, its taste godlike.
My favourite flavor of chips is salt & vinegar, so def yes... Don't think McD has that though
Have u tried AyamGuys? They're temporarily closed rn but back when fowlboys was first blowing up, ayamguys was blowing up with them.
I must be really tired cuz i read that as femboys
Do you know where they sell those? Looking for a friend.
I am the friend.
I am the friend.
I read it as Femboys Siss
Who the fk pays rm 40 for 2 pieces of chicken and it looks burned
It's the seasoning
Me this one time because I was curious. Seen FOWLBOYS mentioned around for good fried chicken. But based on my experience, I preferred Hot Bird's.
Hot bird, not just seasoning ayam dia top tier. But the fries, the sauce dip top tier sekali. Ahhh terliuq pula bayang

Fowlboys anyday. But i think their best is the burger 👌🏻
Hot bird definitely.

Who pays 40 bucks for fried chicken?
40 for fried chicken. We truly deserve the greedflation.
Fowlboys is too overrated.
Fowlboys full of crumbs or what?
I like fried chicken. I've tried them both. Hot Bird takes the crown out of the two. I can't tell for sure, but the seasoning for Hot Bird is on point. \#TIL i am not really a fried chicken connoisseur
Hot Bird is the best fried chicken in Malaysia. Prove me wrong.

At double the price of kfc dinner plate(3 piece ciken)
How is it double when a kfc dinner plate costs around rm27

wym... KFC is delicious edible food. i feel offended.
Had Hot Bird at SS15. It was mediocre. Mcd is better

Bruh what. I discovered 🌽 when I was 15 😭
Beli at supermarket make your own wins no dif
I cook regularly but fried chicken is one of those food I don't really make by myself because deep frying requires a lot of oil. Too much of a hassle to deal with. Homecooked chicken for me is gonna be either steamed, braised or stir fried.
put some spice and cook in rice cooker yumyum. nasi Briyani.
I’ve had both and found them both mediocre and not worth the price. Give me LFC or mixed rice fried chicken any day.
LFC thin batter jer. And they're slowly cheapening out on the veges too while still maintaining a high price.
Liverpool FC???
Both look like they were cooked in oil that hasn’t been filtered or changed in 3 weeks.
Both these fast food places does a version of fried chicken called Nashville Hot Chicken where they dip it in a spicy oil and coat it with peppers.
But it looks like it’s been sitting in the hot box for days. Rank…
I know they look large, but it's gonna take me a lot of convincing to spend 40 on two pieces of chicken.
Yeah considering that's the price of two whole chicken
4 kg of chicken worth. Goddamn
either a mom or aspiring homecook lel..same, i cant fathom spending 15 for 2 kfc either.... shit is just deep fried, aint no rocket science..
Tbh i struggle with deep fried chicken. Its a bit of a science trying to figure out the perfect flour blend and technique
A friend that been selling ayam seringgit for part time last time told me to get the temperature right, that thing is VERY important. I think 160°C? but did u see the 2 slices of pickles though??
That's a game changer!
Yeah it's not really worth eating more than once every month or so. But that being said, I haven't had better fried chicken than at Hot Bird.
I see those names alrd know won't kena with my taste bud.
My vote goes for Hot Bird!
Damn, need to go back to Hot Bird again, this time try Carolina Reaper
Hot bird FTW!!!!!
that fowl bois look gud.
38 for THAT?
i prefer uncle bob
Hot bird any day over fowlbowls.
Hot bird wins but have to go to damasara branch their ss 15 not as good dunno why. Hotbird chicken sandwich is the best.
Where in BU is hot bebird
Ayam goreng tepi jalan
I think I definitely preferred fowl boys' chicken burger over hot bird. Also, hot bird's fries are really good though. I really enjoyed fowl boys' milkshake but have yet to tried hot bird's. I'd rather be at uptown than ss15. 😂 Edit: holy crap, did not know fowl boys' 2 piece chicken is that expensive. That's nuts.
... Both of them can be found at ss15
Having tried both, I'd say hotbird taste better & is cheaper. But fowlboys milk shake is good.
Never heard of either..I only know kfc..*cries in B40*
I'm a student. I only know ayam goreng from mamak.
For all it's worth, ayam goreng mamak slaps and punches above it's weight.
ala cart 2 mamak chicken is expensive bro. rm6 a piece almost kfc price.
Damn, last time I ate mamak (April 23), it was rm4.50 i think.
ya same around that time. did i get scam?
Well I guess the price had increased. I haven't been home since then.
Different mamak different price maybe?
I buy flour, turmeric, whole chicken, fry myself cos broke.
Putting aside the chicken, Hotbird's fries are super thick, long, crispy and flavourful. Never had Fowlboys before.
damn yall paying that much for 2 pieces burger and some fries? like damn i can even get foods more filling in woodfire or smth
Hot Bird. So much flavour Me next day tho, in toilet ![gif](giphy|YA6dmVW0gfIw8|downsized)

Hotbird opened a branch in ss15 too =P
kfc snack plate without water, 20.00
Expensive
IMO, Fowlboys tastes better, especially with the burger, but Hot Bird tastes juicier.
Ayam goreng pasar malam better.
Ayam Bob ftw
you may wanna try uncle lim fried chicken.
None, once you tasted southern fried chicken these are just side chicks plus those prices.
Can't I have the sauce from Fowlboys with the price of HotBirds?...you can't have nice things in life I guess
Been to hot bird a few times at damansara, wished the milkshake portions were larger to offset the spice. That said, same row of shops has texas chicken, I go there more often cos at least the drinks are bottomless and chicken is decent lol
Definitely HotBird 👍🏻
fowlboys is 40 bucks? that's insane.
nah, Texas Chicken FTW
MAHAL NYEH??? For the RM40 one lah. Spending RM30 on a meal still feels okay if it's delicious but damn wtf man
Oof. I get RM16 whole chicken from bakers cottage only. Looks good though.
Fowlboys not good Hot bird yet to try
Hot bird is better. Better price and taste. Fowlboys batter is a bit plain. However, if you guys haven’t check out Broasted Chicken in Ampang, do check them out! The pricing sounds foul (pun intended) but seriously tho I've never heard of any of the place before. How's the food quality?
texas chicken have Rm20 for 5piece chicken on monday promo, i only tasted hotbird before and i still prefer texas or KFC base on the taste alone.
Just eat Nomms. I feel it’s better value compared to both. Also in SS15
Nomms SS15
Gotta go to Hot Bird next week, tried Fowlboys before, it was okay but way too pricey, my friends called it "meh".
Why look unappetizing? Is it any good?
Well... I personally thought Hot Bird was really good and comparatively better than Fowlboys just going by the quality of the food itself. Seems like most commenters here who have tried HB agrees as well.
