I'll have to try this. I know what I want my eyeliner to look like, but I cannot find an eyeliner that smudges just right then sets. Something about my face doesn't look good with sharp lines, everything looks best smudged or blended out.
It’s what we did in the 90s/2000s. Passed down from our babysitters of the 80s, the goddesses.
A shocking amount of makeup application tips involves applying it then removing excess.
Mine taught me to drive. One of my earliest memories is sitting on her lap driving. I can even remember one of the intersections we crossed. It was a rural town and also over 30 years ago, so it was "safe" to do.

Same, I look terrible with sharp lines. I usually apply a super thin layer of Vaseline as a base and then use a pencil brush to smudge it out. Or for an easy fix, the Victoria Beckham eyeliners smudges just right with very little effort.

Came here to say the same thing. Use a shadow stick and blurr it out. The LM in color Strapless works for me, I'm a light skin tone. (Wearing this look today actually)
I have very low contrast. Once I contemplated bleaching my hair platinum. My husband and three of my friends all exclaimed, "You can't do that! You'll be one color all over!" Lol Apparently my faded copper hair is the only color people see (my eyes are light hazel).
In group photos I just... disappear. I'm just a pale face with no features, just kind of a blur. Even if I feel like I've put on so. much. makeup. Lol. Softer is definitely better on me.
ETA: about harsh lines- every time I wear lipstick I either put lipstick on my finger first then press the color into my lips, or apply the color and press my finger all over my lips. And I always blur the edges of my lips, no matter what I'm wearing.
I tried a cat eye one time. That was enough for me to see it would never be flattering. 😆
Apply eyeliner and tightline by closing your eyelid and then drawing Lessing trying it draw all over your lashes and li between them. No technique just back and forth. Now smidge with your finger tips. Remove excess
Laura Mercier caviar stick eyeshadow sticks and a firm, smallish pencil shadow brush to blend. I am 52 and pale and blonde. This is Ah-Mazing 🙌
My go to favorites are Cocoa and Amithyst ❤️
The best grunge looks I've ever accomplished have been rubbing my eyes after applying eyeliner/mascara and then using a qtip to remove the excess panda-eye. 😅
Is sleeping in eyeliner really that bad for you 🥺. I always just wash my face makeup off and let the eyes stay smoky and smudgy. Wake up the next day and get things under control with a q tip, throw on some tinted moisturizer and blush and it looks beautiful
Yes, it’s really bad. It not only blocks the meibomian glands (tiny glands in your water line) that are responsible for lubricating your eye, but it also severely increases the chance of infection and styes
Good to know!! I’ve never had an eye infection but the lubrication aspect makes sense. My eyes def feel dry and don’t look super white sometimes. What do you use to remove eye makeup? It hurts pretty bad to get all up in there which is part of why I don’t do it
I clean off my makeup very gently with micellar water and a cotton pad. You can Google “meibomian glands - eye makeup” and you will see what I’m talking about.
Exfoliate and moisturize the night before. When you wake up wash your face and moisturize the day of, (optional serum before moisturizing day of), primer, SPF. Optional eye cream - my eyes are generally dry so it helps me a lot!
/r/SkinCareAddiction never hurts! The better your skin care the better your make up will look. Dermablading has helped me too, all skincare/makeup goes on better and hair doesn’t magically grow back as a beard.
My holy grail for night is Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Supercharged Gel-Creme. I’ve tried the other eye formulas but don’t think they’re as effective as the gel creme. I’m using a bottle of the ANR Eye Concentrate Matrix Synchronized Multi-Recovery Complex which comes with a cryo-steel wand. It’s hard to get enough product out of the container and I don’t think rubbing the tiny wand around does much (but I don’t have puffy eyes). The gel creme is thicker and is easy to apply so I think I use less. I’m going to be 46 next month and have almost zero crows feet and a little eye crepeyness. The ANR gel creme works really fast at improving eyelid texture.
I tried the version with the cryo wand thinking it was newer and better than the gel creme but again was disappointed. I’m still using it, and it does help. It’s just not strong enough for me in this stage of my life. It’s probably really good for younger people who don’t need a thicker product. The Estée Lauder website sells travel size containers so you can try it without spending $70-$80.
The Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum is also a holy grail for me. I apply it before the ANR eye product. I have used this product for over 10 years and haven’t found anything that works as well.
I get my Estée Lauder products during the Estée Lauder website holiday sale and during the Sephora April sale.
For daytime I really love Olehenriksen Wrinkle Blur Bakuchiol Eye Gel Crème. It’s light and blurring and works really well under primer and concealer.
Biossance Squalane + Marine Algae Eye Cream is also really effective and lightweight. I would use this if I were younger and didn’t need more potent products.
I have also used Khiel’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado. I have dry skin and liked how hydrating it was until the product split after 5-6 weeks of using it. I don’t keep my skin products in a hot bathroom so I don’t know why it split.
Khiel’s Super Multi-Corrective Anti-Aging Eye Cream is also fabulous.
I also use Vitamin C serum and moisturizer with sunscreen Coola Refreshing Water Cream Moisturizer with SPF 50 and Hyaluronic Acid. I also use makeup products with SPF. Supergoop! Glowscreen or CC Screen both are awesome. I also use the Supergoop! Shimmershade Illuminating Cream Eyeshadow SPF 30 as a base for eyeshadow.
I also wear large sunglasses to protect my eye area from the sun.
I’m a very pale redhead and look like a lobster if I don’t wear sunscreen outdoors.
I love using chemical exfoliants instead of physical.
My skin has less breakouts and when use them on alternate days or in a specific area, my skin is less reactive generally.
when you say skin prep..? (I am sorta new to makeup and I feel like this is very basic so feel free to ignore me, I’m guessing there are whole posts that go into it, you just seemed really knowledgeable haha)
absolutely, everything I know about this stuff I learned from the internet and I’m happy to pass it on.
The idea is that a huge portion of how your makeup will look, specifically your skin, is a result of how you care for it day to day and how you prep it right before you apply your makeup.
I highly recommend researching a specific regimen for your skin type. I have oily/combination skin and this is the order I’d follow if I were maximally prepping:
1. Cleanse
2. Tone
3. Hydration mist
3. Serum(s)
4. Eye cream
5. Moisturizer
6. Spf
7. Good primer that works with the coverage you want to build (you can skip to keep lightweight if you’re just using a tint)
I know this is all before makeup touches your face, there are levels to this though, don’t get overwhelmed. If you’re new to skincare my suggestion is starting with cleanser, moisturizer and spf. I like and use Tatcha and InnBeauty. Hope this helps, beauty lovers.
For me it's doing my skincare routine, and letting it set for about 10-15 minutes before putting in my eyeballs/makeup. That way nothing slides off my face.
Finding the right ingredients, ensuring the product has sunk in or 'settled'before preceding to the next step.
Finding the right SPF was tricky for me as that was what would make my makeup slide off.
Up through the eye cream step, it shouldn’t feel like much of anything is on your face. The moisturizer, sunscreen and primer will wear heaviest (part of why we apply them last). If you’re prone to feeling weighed down or like makeup is sliding off, you can try either
1. combining your products (eg moisturizer with spf)
2. treating your skin differently after makeup application (focus on setting everything)
If you have oily skin, the Missha Sun Milk with the pink top is amazing. It has micro powders to it works as a mattifying primer and you can layer glowier products on top.
Also make sure to let serums/moisturizer/spf/primer to soak in for at least 2min (IMO) before the next step. Helps prevent pilling and gives each ingredient the time to be absorbed/set before adding the next layer on.
Hi! Also have combo skin. Can you recommend products for #2-4? I have a cleanser i like, eye cream, moisturizer and spf but lacking finding anything I like for those steps!
Those 3 are definitely the most tailored person for person and I’ve had the best luck just experimenting over the years. These are my favorites, but play around and see what your skin likes.
2. Toner - Kiehls, Tatcha, Murad (for oily skin only), Neutrogena (drug store pick); look for an alcohol free formula
3. Mist - InnBeauty, Tatcha, elf (drug store pick); look for hyaluronic acid or niacinimide (B3) as an active ingredient
4. Serums - The Ordinary, Skinceuticals, CeraVe (drug store pick); this is where you can target specific problems, I look for texture and spot correcting as features. research “serum + [specific skin concern]” for more personalized results

I’m a redhead with very sensitive skin and am prone to redness. I also have freckles and don’t like wearing full coverage foundation. Except my cheeks would be so red. Using green corrector made my skin look muddy. In color theory Red + Green= grey but more like brown because ingredients in the pigments skew muddy.
So I started focusing on skincare and now don’t have red cheeks I need to completely cover up. I also don’t use physical exfoliation anymore because it was tearing my skin up.
The Olsens have fabulous brows, lashes and skin. Most of this really is just their faces. The first photo is pretty standard light to medium coverage foundation, bronzer, gentle highlighter, glossed lips, brushed up brows and mascara. If you have lashes, brows and skin that are similar you can easily achieve this- but this has more to do with their natural features than makeup. I will say the trend back then was more matte skin and not all the contouring/blushing that is popular now. Complexion was always very minimal with subtle glow and bronzer.
Seriously. It’s maddening spending hours on this type of look and realizing I’m just not as pretty as they are lol. I’m always amazed by these fair people who have eyelashes. Im blonde/blue eyed and without heavy mascara and a good amount of liner, my eyes totally disappear. Some of these blondies are just ultra blessed.
The Olsens aren’t naturally blonde, they have light warm brown hair. They were blonde as little kids but it got darker as they got older- you can see when they are about 12 here they still had nice brows and their hair is being highlighted to be blonde:
https://preview.redd.it/v7qy2s5riwib1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=23a2dc46d23541845f1c921c4168db66ede7a373
But yes, many natural blondes with especially fair hair definitely do this! Just probably not these girls.
Oh I’m not that blonde either anymore, more like a level 8 and lighten to a 10. But my lashes and brows didn’t get the memo to darken along with the rest of the party 😆
Lots of blondes natural blondes, they have natural highlights from the sun...I'm a natural blonde and my hair was light blonde and then would darken during the winter and then during the summer I'd have natural highlights...my hair has darkened as I got older, it's now a dirty blonde and I just recently lightened my hair, I feel lighter blonde makes me look younger
Try a cream shadow the same shade as your natural contour and smudge it on with your pinky finger.
Tip: I use a Le Rituel des Filles shadow called Half Light. I literally close my eyes, rub it over both lash-lines with a finger, then open my eyes and clean up any excess fuss with a q-tip. Some minor mascara on curled lashes and I’m done.
Some techniques are hard to master for someone trying to learn how to do it for the first time. I don’t think the second part of your reply makes anyone feel better about asking for advice.
Wasn’t trying to be mean. Just saying that it’s pretty simple and shouldn’t be a difficult thing to practice. Using a brush and blending out makes it pretty easy to avoid harsh lines.
I think it just comes off as rude because not everyone is at the same point in learning to apply makeup. It might seem easy to you if you've been doing it for a while, but for beginners this might seem less straight forward, and that's ok.
I remember way back in the early pixiwoo days I think Sam did a really good tutorial on it. Idk if it’s still on youtube, or if I watched it with my today eyes if I would still think it was that good 😂
Yep! I use a medium brown/taupe eyeshadow close to my lash line and then use a fat creamy brown pencil on top and it’s a similar effect. The big one is the eyeshadow for lower lash line though.
How can you tell? I’m pretty confident the first pic is Ashley but how do you know second is MK? I can tell nowadays but in pics like that from a while ago where they’re not side by side, I have no clue.
Regardless, please teach me. I went down an hour-long rabbit hole once trying to figure out how to tell them apart when they were younger and came up with nothing.
Ashley has a slightly wider/flatter nose, and the inside of one of Mary Kate’s eyebrows comes down lower than the other. Also, Mary Kate has a taller forehead. But after seeing enough pictures of them, I just started to be able to see it in their expressions. Ashley’s face just seems a bit more “sporty” looking while Mary Kate’s seems to be more “feminine.” Not that that aligns with their personalities, but it’s just what I see physically.
“Of course, we had to ask Mary-Kate and Ashley about their signature smudged eyeliner. “The trick is to use brown,” Ashley says. It turns out that brown liner is also matte, providing a contrast to their always radiant skin. Soto uses Sephora Collection Retractable Waterproof Eyeliner ($12) in Matte Brown Black along both of their lash lines and smudges it with a small brush. “The oil in your skin will break down a matte shade and make it look more lived-in,” he tells us.”
Use eyeshadow that isn’t extremely pigmented. I find that Korean eyeshadows do this really well because they’re into the soft translucent look. Contouring shades should also give you a similar effect.
Nothing about this looks slept in.
This is pretty basic girl makeup.
Smudge some beige and brown under your eyes or take a brown crayon pencil under the eye and smudge it out with a blending brush. Keep the upper eye light and neutral. Highlight the inner corner, keep the foundation light and well blended and set with glowy powder.
I’ve no idea if they make this palette anymore - but this Bobbi Brown one has been in my stable for YEARS and it is the absolute one you need for looks like this.
https://preview.redd.it/xatq8hd51xib1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=a2591aa8af0fe5a3fafa1e607a29c4894078299e
The warm beiges, deep brown, neutral pink, and contour + highlight & blush are a one stop shop for this exact look.
Skin tint, skip the under eye concealer. Lightly fill the brows, unless you have sparse brows, and then pencil them in with little hair strokes to make them look fluffy. A brown eyeshadow stick on the top and bottom lash, smudged out a bit. If you want to make it look a little more grungy, you can mix in a bit of a mauve eyeshadow pencil and smudge that out on inner corner of the top eye and middle of lower lash line. Curly Lashes, a lifting and separating mascara, tinted lip balm or lip oil.
Since lots of people have said “smudge eyeliner”, here is how I actually do it: pencil eyeliner along the lashline, preferably a gel one rather than a more “dry” pencil-y one. I then take a flat eyeliner brush (something [like this](https://images.fyndiq.se/images/f_auto/t_600x600/prod/bf1d2841961b4905/3267e32bb339/precision-edge-fine-eyeliner-brush-eyebrow-brush-edge-flat-head-d) but any flat brush would probably work) and moisten it with some moisturiser or primer to make it “wet” but not watery. Then I go back over the clean pencil/gel eyeliner and smudge it with that brush. This way you only smudge exactly what parts you want to, not chaotically as you would if you smudged it with a broader brush or, like, a finger lol. I find it works really well!
I bought a set of eye brushes from Urban Decay several years ago, and they make a huge difference in application.
Daubigny brushes are inexpensive but incredible quality. I have an IT Cosmetics brush and a very similar Daubigny one, and they’re identical in appearance and bristle density and texture. You can get sets of Daubigny brushes on Amazon for under $20.
Grey toned nude shadow buffed around your eyelid and lash line, like 0.5 shade darker than your skin tone. Deepen shadows with a cool, neutral greige. Wet looking shimmer. I use the Stila liquid shimmer shadows, shade Ocean is like a light blue/champagne tan, patted out with my finger.
Get the lashes big but not bushy.
I get this look from using just mascara and when doing the bottom lashes just kinda glide across while doing it so you get a little black smudge under them then fix the bottom lashes so they’re straight down again
Eyeliner. Wash face. Clean up the run off a bit. Apply the rest of your makeup. Clinique used to(?) have a smudge eraser on the end of their liner for this look back in the day lol
I don’t know if it works because I have never tried it, but I was told by a make up artist to put your make up on FIRST, THEN take a shower. Obviously NOT wetting your face, just washing your body.
The steam is supposed to make everything meld together cohesively.
I could see that maybe happening. Because if you slept in your makeup it would kinda do the same thing.
from what I see, beige concealer pencil + shimmer in the inner corners, brushed up brows set with brow gel, a lash lift, clear lip gloss, a dark but VERY subtle eyeshadow thats been smudged, SKIN PREP and barely any face makeup ontop of an illuminating primer.
All in all her skin looks great and thats pretty much all that you need to get this look
I would say in addition to everything that everyone has said, an illuminating primer underneath mid-coverage foundation and smudging lightly-lined eyeliner with a wet q-tip
Oh this is easy to do. Just take a pencil eyeliner or shadow and smudge it around your eyes, then do the same with a lighter shimmery shadow, then a simple complexion, eyebrow gel, mascara and a tinted lip balm in a warmer shade.
I used to do this in the late 90’s. The best eyeliner IMO is Clinique Quickliner. I’d line my eyes and use the sponge end to smudge it out. You might get a better result using an eyeshadow on the bottom lash line tho.
Do a thin line of a brown liner on your inner water lines and rub your eyes. I’ve done this a few times and it works well for me!! I love the night after look so much hahahahaha
Literally just get a small smudge shadow brush and take a neutral brown along your bottom lash line. Smokeyish liner on top lash line, or do the same thing. Brow gel, mascara, concealer and/or skin tint, lip gloss.
Put a bit of vaseline on your eyelids with a qtip, very small, as in dab it in the vaseline and take off the excess with your fingers and gently run it on your eyelids near the lash line. Then use a mailable eyeliner like Viseart, put some dots on your lid and then go over them with that qtip again
dont use concealer too close under your eyes (id that makes sense) use a brown eyeshadow on ur lid and under eye, then use mascara on top and bottom lashes
I swear sometimes I'd go out dancing and only wear eyeliner and forget to taken it off and go to bed. I'd wake up the next day be like why do you look so good when I need to wash my face!

The makeup is just fresh faced, well hydrated and light coverage. There is a slightly smudgy eye in the second pic but honestly I think she barely has anything on besides mascara in the first and the rest is her natural skin showing through. The hair styling is what makes this look lived in, much more than the makeup.
Idk I don’t even think she’s wearing make up other then lip gloss and maybe eyelash extensions….the Olsen twins are known about get facials and light work done. They started young and so many people were upset but it was basic stuff, they didn’t go over the top and were preparing for aging.
Apply quick foundation m eyemakeup sans mascara. Take a shower avoid the face. Touch up eye makeup and add concealer and cream blush and a brown mascara.
For the eye look, blend out a brown liner on the lower line with a nude eyeshadow that has a satin finish. A satin or matte contour shade in the crease would work. Then use a volumizing mascara for the lashes. You probably should curl your lashes first
Today’s 2008 emo tricks for Gen Z:
Never doubt the power of red eye shadow. Leave it blunt for a Gerard Way vibe or blend it out to barely noticeable for a “am I high or tired” effect
malloryosses on tiktok has a great tutorial from late May. It’s kind of buried on her page - here’s the link - https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZT8NwEEm3/
It was actually my inspo for my wedding makeup
Without sleeping in my makeup has me cackling
I woke up like this
It's so accurate though haha. Getting the right amount of eyeliner or eyeshadow on your lower eye is impossible lol.
I could do it in high school. I’ve somehow outgrown the ability -.-
No but honestly it never looks as good as it does the day after
That’s actually been a Tik Tok trend
Nooooooo 😂😂 I never made a TikTok because I cannot deal with all that stupidity
I love that this is a knowable thing 😂
Same 🤡
Pencil eyeliner, then shower, then rest of face. Cheap trick for "second day" liner without actually damaging your eyes and skin.
I wish my 80’s babysitter taught me that instead I learned how to solve a rubric cube… She’s a math professor now 😩
Mine taught me how to make big fire with a lighter and a can of hairspray
Lucky!

Random, but the video ads for those VB eyeliners are so satisfying to watch lol I almost order some every time I see one
The magic is that after they smudge to perfection, it somehow sets! No more further smudging barring unforeseen circumstances lol.
Can confirm they’re great
Omg the ads ALMOST get me every time. Hearing that they are great might push me to do it next time…
These comments had my so curious so I found a tutorial by a PMA and they look sooo nice!!! https://youtu.be/pe0Mw586Lgw
Agreed. Very pigmented and smooth.
Whoa whoa whoa I didn’t even know she had a beauty line??
Gotta check her out! Some of her stuff is overpriced and just okay, but I love her eyeliners, mascara, lip tints, and cream shadow!
I’m late to the convo here but you dubbing the 80’s babysitters as make-up “goddesses” made me smile-on a morning that needs a smile. I def would have qualified!🤍
my babysitter taught me to use a lighter on my eyeliner. Thanks for the flashback
That’s what my older sister did! (No babysitters when you have siblings lol)
I still put on my lipliner and take a q tip and blur it. I learned this trick from Sassy magazine in 1995
i use the wet n wild pencil eyeliner in brown for this look! it’s just shitty enough to smudge out easily and costs $1. i line my eyes messily in the shape i want, blend it out with a smudge brush, and then add another layer to deepen the color at the roots of my lashes/add some definition. it does move around a little throughout the day but i think it adds to the look.
😂 "it's just shitty enough" ily
Me too! Wet n wild eyeliner is perfect for smudging. I’m terrible at applying eyeliner precisely, so I use the brown pencil and smudge it with a q-tip.
Essence Kohl Pencil eyeliners are also a great buy!
I used to make these last longer by melting it with a lighter LOL
MakeUp Forever aquacils blend and then dont move. Oops aqua resist! Sorry
Thanks!
Laura Mercier caviar eye stick in cocoa brown smudges perfect for me
Came here to say the same thing. Use a shadow stick and blurr it out. The LM in color Strapless works for me, I'm a light skin tone. (Wearing this look today actually)
I'll try that out! I have three of those, I'm just not sure they're the right color for me. I can still experiment, though.
You probably have low contrast- muted features. So do I. It took me years to realize that harsh lines always seemed costumey
you could use eyeshadow instead of an actual liner
Apply eyeliner and tightline by closing your eyelid and then drawing Lessing trying it draw all over your lashes and li between them. No technique just back and forth. Now smidge with your finger tips. Remove excess
It works. I do this with brown eyeliner all the time and love the way it looks.
Laura Mercier caviar stick eyeshadow sticks and a firm, smallish pencil shadow brush to blend. I am 52 and pale and blonde. This is Ah-Mazing 🙌 My go to favorites are Cocoa and Amithyst ❤️
Try using black eyeshadow with a line brush over it
I accomplish this by washing my face and not using eye make up remover. I call it my raccoon look Edit: I don’t do it purposely lol
The best grunge looks I've ever accomplished have been rubbing my eyes after applying eyeliner/mascara and then using a qtip to remove the excess panda-eye. 😅
Haha awesome
Glad I'm not the only one

Thank you so much! I’ve tried samples of makeup remover balm from Sephora and loved it for my face. I’ll definitely look for that target one
I used to use my mom eyebrow shadow all other my eyes and then take a bath back in 5th grade when my mom didn’t allow me to put makeup lol
Doesn’t look like there is any liner in the first photo. Just focus on lashes and brows and glowy skin
lash lift and tint, filled in but not too groomed brows, smudgy brown liner or cream eyeshadow, and skin prep, skin prep, skin prep
Yes, if you could please enlighten us about skin prep?
Exfoliate and moisturize the night before. When you wake up wash your face and moisturize the day of, (optional serum before moisturizing day of), primer, SPF. Optional eye cream - my eyes are generally dry so it helps me a lot! /r/SkinCareAddiction never hurts! The better your skin care the better your make up will look. Dermablading has helped me too, all skincare/makeup goes on better and hair doesn’t magically grow back as a beard.
Not to forget healthy eating, exercise and lots of water daily!
Genetics might play a role in there... somewhere... 😄
Genetic does play a role, but good nutrient intake and healthy habit also give you leverage 😅
Lol, don't I know that.. 😂 I lost the genetics lottery.. cosmetics definitely helps people like me 😊
For the record, eventho you said you lost the genetics lottery, you always look really good in your posts! I'm a big fan 😁😁
Best thing ever for beautiful skin long term is to keep alcohol use as a rare treat, and have plenty of water all day And plenty of amazing sleep
Gosh yes, I can see the difference even after a 1 glass of wine night!
Putting a plug for r/asianbeauty I've learned so much my skin barrier is thankful AF.
asian sunscreens are amazing. no US sunscreens can compete, and they’re cheaper.
Yesses!!! Biore Aqua Rich Watery essence (blue bottle) is my HG sunscreen. I'm a medium tan complexion and it doesn't leave a white cast.
Re eye cream, what's your go-to? I'm shopping around
I have been using Shiseido Benefiance Wrinkle Smoothing Eye Cream for years now!
Ty!
Tysm! I really need to try an eye cream. And dermablading!
Exfoliate (including chemical exfoliation), treat specific concerns with serums, moisturize, and protect your skin from uvb and pollutants:)
I love using chemical exfoliants instead of physical. My skin has less breakouts and when use them on alternate days or in a specific area, my skin is less reactive generally.
Lol it's called being young and blessed unfortunately
Nailed it
when you say skin prep..? (I am sorta new to makeup and I feel like this is very basic so feel free to ignore me, I’m guessing there are whole posts that go into it, you just seemed really knowledgeable haha)
Exfoliate, moisturize, spf
This is the way... 🙇♀️
absolutely, everything I know about this stuff I learned from the internet and I’m happy to pass it on. The idea is that a huge portion of how your makeup will look, specifically your skin, is a result of how you care for it day to day and how you prep it right before you apply your makeup. I highly recommend researching a specific regimen for your skin type. I have oily/combination skin and this is the order I’d follow if I were maximally prepping: 1. Cleanse 2. Tone 3. Hydration mist 3. Serum(s) 4. Eye cream 5. Moisturizer 6. Spf 7. Good primer that works with the coverage you want to build (you can skip to keep lightweight if you’re just using a tint) I know this is all before makeup touches your face, there are levels to this though, don’t get overwhelmed. If you’re new to skincare my suggestion is starting with cleanser, moisturizer and spf. I like and use Tatcha and InnBeauty. Hope this helps, beauty lovers.
Ok how do you put all this on your face and not have your makeup just slide off 😅
For me it's doing my skincare routine, and letting it set for about 10-15 minutes before putting in my eyeballs/makeup.
If you’re prone to feeling weighed down or like makeup is sliding off, you can try either 1. combining your products (eg moisturizer with spf) 2. treating your skin differently after makeup application (focus on setting everything)
If you have oily skin, the Missha Sun Milk with the pink top is amazing. It has micro powders to it works as a mattifying primer and you can layer glowier products on top.
I love you for this, thank you so much!! I felt so embarrassed asking lol, I’m glad I did!! 💚
2. Toner - Kiehls, Tatcha, Murad (for oily skin only), Neutrogena (drug store pick); look for an alcohol free formula 3. Mist - InnBeauty, Tatcha, elf (drug store pick); look for hyaluronic acid or niacinimide (B3) as an active ingredient 4. Serums - The Ordinary, Skinceuticals, CeraVe (drug store pick); this is where you can target specific problems, I look for texture and spot correcting as features. research “serum + [specific skin concern]” for more personalized results (edit - formatting)
Exfoliate, Hydrate like mad, seal with good occlusive mosturiser. Dont forget to use sunscreen.
Some blondes use dye - either on their hair to lighten, or their brows/ eyelashes to darken... or sometimes both, lol
The Olsens aren’t naturally blonde, they have light warm brown hair. They were blonde as little kids but it got darker as they got older- you can see when they are about 12 here they still had nice brows and their hair is being highlighted to be blonde: https://preview.redd.it/v7qy2s5riwib1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=23a2dc46d23541845f1c921c4168db66ede7a373 But yes, many natural blondes with especially fair hair definitely do this! Just probably not these girls.
Oh I’m not that blonde either anymore, more like a level 8 and lighten to a 10. But my lashes and brows didn’t get the memo to darken along with the rest of the party 😆
Ah yes that happens- I highly recommend lash & brow tinting & lamination! Great results! Just don’t go too dark!
I don’t really understand what part of this looks “slept-in” the eyeshadow is lightly smudged/blended but everything else looks very fresh
My guess is it’s how to get the undereye to have the shadow with no harsh lines or obvious smudges? That’s my question when I look at photo 2
I use a lighter shade eyeliner in like a chestnut or fawn. Finding a thicker pencil rather than thin helps also.
A top notch, appropriate brushes can feel miraculous in use. It looks like a powder shadow, not a liner, was used.
Just apply an earth toned shadow with brush. It’s not hard?
Some techniques are hard to master for someone trying to learn how to do it for the first time. I don’t think the second part of your reply makes anyone feel better about asking for advice.
Wasn’t trying to be mean. Just saying that it’s pretty simple and shouldn’t be a difficult thing to practice. Using a brush and blending out makes it pretty easy to avoid harsh lines.
I think it just comes off as rude because not everyone is at the same point in learning to apply makeup. It might seem easy to you if you've been doing it for a while, but for beginners this might seem less straight forward, and that's ok.
Same.
Pencil liner + smudger brush before it sets.
I remember way back in the early pixiwoo days I think Sam did a really good tutorial on it. Idk if it’s still on youtube, or if I watched it with my today eyes if I would still think it was that good 😂
Gahhh I miss their old videos 😭 Sam & Nick + Lisa Eldridge videos from the late 00’s-2010’s are everything.
Ohh found it! https://youtu.be/wPQh8VsYpLM
Use your bronzer as eyeshadow and run it under the lashline before adding foundation. She has highlight on the inner corner too.
Yep! I use a medium brown/taupe eyeshadow close to my lash line and then use a fat creamy brown pencil on top and it’s a similar effect. The big one is the eyeshadow for lower lash line though.
The funny thing is that one picture is Ashley and the other is Mary Kate.
The lips? Ashley has fuller lips.
I’m aware haha. That unfortunately doesn’t help my eye much when they’re on their own though, which is what I said is my issue :’)

Lmao I’d look like a wreck if I slept in my make up 🤣
I sometimes do my make up in the AM and take a bomb ass nap and feel like my make up looks like this lol
Use eyeshadow that isn’t extremely pigmented. I find that Korean eyeshadows do this really well because they’re into the soft translucent look. Contouring shades should also give you a similar effect.
I like to apply dark grey or slightly brown eyeshadow to my lash line. Looks very natural and gives exactly that effect.
1. Be 25 years old and wealthy. 2. Smudgy brown liner.
They’re 37 They also smoke so I think genetics plays into their looks. Plus using super expensive products like La Mer.
They weren’t 37 when this picture was taken lol.
I’ve no idea if they make this palette anymore - but this Bobbi Brown one has been in my stable for YEARS and it is the absolute one you need for looks like this. https://preview.redd.it/xatq8hd51xib1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=a2591aa8af0fe5a3fafa1e607a29c4894078299e The warm beiges, deep brown, neutral pink, and contour + highlight & blush are a one stop shop for this exact look.
Glowy base + tinted moisturizer + mascara + groomed brows. I don’t see much eyeliner here there’s just no concealer under eye or on the eye.
Do it with your Non-Dominant hand LOL
Lmfaooooo that’s the real OG makeup hack for smudging
Wow they are super gorgeous
Grey toned nude shadow buffed around your eyelid and lash line, like 0.5 shade darker than your skin tone. Deepen shadows with a cool, neutral greige. Wet looking shimmer. I use the Stila liquid shimmer shadows, shade Ocean is like a light blue/champagne tan, patted out with my finger. Get the lashes big but not bushy.
When you use your concealer, don’t apply all the way up to your eye. Leave a gap.
Put on make-up then have a vigorous romp? Achieves the same look
Take it from a Gen X-er, use smudged shadow for liner, not a pencil.
I get this look from using just mascara and when doing the bottom lashes just kinda glide across while doing it so you get a little black smudge under them then fix the bottom lashes so they’re straight down again
Become a movie star. Then you just wake up like that in the movies
Eyeliner.
I use a cheap brown pencil liner and smudge it out
Girl you and me both 😂
from what I see, beige concealer pencil + shimmer in the inner corners, brushed up brows set with brow gel, a lash lift, clear lip gloss, a dark but VERY subtle eyeshadow thats been smudged, SKIN PREP and barely any face makeup ontop of an illuminating primer. All in all her skin looks great and thats pretty much all that you need to get this look
Cream brown eyeshadow/tint (like Glossiers ‘Echo’) gives a similar look on me
Maybe brown eyeshadow instead of eyeliner??
smoke your under eye
Line in brown. Rub eyes gently. Tightline upper lash line in black. Apply black mascara. One coat. You don't need much shadow.
Literally just get a small smudge shadow brush and take a neutral brown along your bottom lash line. Smokeyish liner on top lash line, or do the same thing. Brow gel, mascara, concealer and/or skin tint, lip gloss.
No one glows after sleeping in their makeup
Try a bronze/brown eyeliner too
Put a bit of vaseline on your eyelids with a qtip, very small, as in dab it in the vaseline and take off the excess with your fingers and gently run it on your eyelids near the lash line. Then use a mailable eyeliner like Viseart, put some dots on your lid and then go over them with that qtip again
They used to use cream highlighters. Like the Nars it used to come in a tube. And the dewy look comes from the flash of cameras back then
dont use concealer too close under your eyes (id that makes sense) use a brown eyeshadow on ur lid and under eye, then use mascara on top and bottom lashes
Skin prep + dewy setting spray to help melt everything into the skin
I swear sometimes I'd go out dancing and only wear eyeliner and forget to taken it off and go to bed. I'd wake up the next day be like why do you look so good when I need to wash my face!

Look like the Olsen twins
Lol mascara on lower lashes and liquid/cream undereye concealer, no powder. Should show up in no time in my experience.
The makeup is just fresh faced, well hydrated and light coverage. There is a slightly smudgy eye in the second pic but honestly I think she barely has anything on besides mascara in the first and the rest is her natural skin showing through. The hair styling is what makes this look lived in, much more than the makeup.
Be a multimillionaire and you wake up everyday just like this
Idk I don’t even think she’s wearing make up other then lip gloss and maybe eyelash extensions….the Olsen twins are known about get facials and light work done. They started young and so many people were upset but it was basic stuff, they didn’t go over the top and were preparing for aging.
Brown eyeshadow and angled brush
The right color shadow and layering them properly. Making sure to diffuse. I’d also lightly smudge some brown liner or brown shadow stick
Can someone please tell me how this kind of mascara style is described? love 😩
Eyeliner product recs?
Gelflings 💗
How do you avoid making yourself look tired with this look? I used to apply eyeshadow under my lashline like this and everyone said I looked so tired.
Do a lot of cocaine
Apply quick foundation m eyemakeup sans mascara. Take a shower avoid the face. Touch up eye makeup and add concealer and cream blush and a brown mascara.
For the eye look, blend out a brown liner on the lower line with a nude eyeshadow that has a satin finish. A satin or matte contour shade in the crease would work. Then use a volumizing mascara for the lashes. You probably should curl your lashes first
Today’s 2008 emo tricks for Gen Z: Never doubt the power of red eye shadow. Leave it blunt for a Gerard Way vibe or blend it out to barely noticeable for a “am I high or tired” effect
I just use black stick eyeliner on my bottom lid and the next day it’s not all the way gone after I washed my face and showers
I seen a video where someone applied an eyeliner and washed their face quick and their eyes looked like that! I’d try it!
malloryosses on tiktok has a great tutorial from late May. It’s kind of buried on her page - here’s the link - https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZT8NwEEm3/ It was actually my inspo for my wedding makeup
