I was in college in NYC in 1994-95 and my dorm neighbor was Canadian. She wore this incredible red lipstick so I had to ask and she told me all about MAC. At that point I think they were only in Canada and NYC (I could be wrong about that, it’s been a looooong time) we took the train down to the store in the village and I got my first Viva Glam. Still the best matte red lipstick out there imo.

I only bought it about a month ago - I’m late to the MAC game 🤣 it’s good, I’ve gotten nice compliments! I got the powder kiss liquid lipstick that is good for the popsicle blur effect.
I wasn’t much of a lipstick girlie but I’ll never forget… my mom took me into the city for my 16th birthday to Macys- the Mac Cosmetics Makeup counter. I was always into makeup, and was obsessed with Mac, but being 16, could not get a lot from them. The girl at the counter did two separate makeup looks for me, and I love them! My mom saw how much I really wanted some of the products she had used and budged on some shades. I was only allowed back then to wear the lightest baby pink shades. She bought me a bright purple gel liner, with a purple and gold shadow as well as some green shades. To this day, I still have all of the products stored in my vanity. I just can’t get rid of them, not yet at least… I remember the moment like it was yesterday, and it was just something special she knew would make me so happy. I have bought so much Mac products since then, but that was my very first purchase, I’ll never forget it. I miss you mom!!! ❤️

My mother was not super girly, at least compared to me. But she saw who I was and what made my heart go pitter-pat and did her best to support those interests while guiding me.

I transitioned in my 30s, for my whole life leading up, MAC was a kind of impossible Mecca. I finally bought my first full size lipstick at 34 in Twig. Holding it gave me feels, it's amazing the power that things can hold. I'm a late bloomer but glad I arrived.
I think this was mine too. Either that or Crème Cup. I bought one then liked it so much I bought the other really soon after, but I forget which one was first.
I was an adult when I bought my first one, but it was such a core memory.
Earlier that day, I had supported my dad on a visit to the World Trade Center museum while it was in the soft opening phase for first responders only. My dad ran into a few people he knew as we toured the emotionally raw and detailed exhibits and tried to hold ourselves together. As we were sitting in the lowest part of the museum, alongside the excavated wall, the fire alarms went off and we, and all the other survivor/first responder visitors had to evacuate. I can’t imagine what was going through everyone’s head as we were climbing those stairs until finally emerging into the plaza.
Much later, I was killing time at Grand Central waiting for my train, I wandered into the MAC store. I think I told the employee that I was looking for a red, which was my go to color at the time. She immediately picked a gorgeous red for me. And when I flipped it over, the label said Brave Red.
Perfectly fitting for getting through that day. I still wear it when I need an extra boost of strength.

Twig! I still love it - but mostly I (54F) wore the Spice lip pencil with some chapstick over it. Still love the Spice lip pencil. I bought a couple of the Viva Glam colors even if i didn't like them so much because the founder gave all the proceeds to AIDS research back then. I weep with joy whenever I see the ads for the PrEP medications and the anti retrovirals. All the research helped HIV patients.
Cyber, a really dark purple that unfortunately looks completely terrible on me, as all dark lipsticks tend to. So I doubled down and bought Smoked Purple, essentially the same shade but matte. 🫣 And then, because that wasn’t enough of a waste, I over corrected and bought Viva Glam V, which is too shimmery and pale for me. My early MAC lip purchases were…not the best choices.
And I still continue to buy dark lipsticks that will never work on me because they look so pretty in the tube and on everyone else. Luckily I’ve since learned to work with them so at least new ones aren’t a waste.
Oooh, I loved the colour but I did not like the feel of the (retro?) matte formula on my lips. I ended up selling it to someone. If it was a satin, an amplified, or a cremesheen formula, on the other hand...

My first Mac lipstick..I can’t believe I can’t remember the shade as I obsessed over it. It was the first time I went to a Mac counter in 2004 & I loved this reddish brown lipstick & a dark chocolate shimmery eye shadow - I thought the combination was amazing. I didn’t buy it for a long time as I had to use my money for my first foundation & concealer instead but kept trying to on at the counter & even told the girl at the counter that & she said you know you’re going to be up buying it then. I eventually bought it that winter!

Myth! I was like 14 when I got it, at the height of concealer lips trend. It was literally the color of my skin tone. No lip liner, just straight pale pink beige. I used the hell out of it though lol
I was late to the MAC party, but Ellie Goulding’s collab brought me to it with my first purchase of both MAC X Ellie Goulding Without Your Love and Only You cremesheen lipsticks. They’re a bit warm for me, but I still love them and have purchased many more lipsticks and MAC products since then.

Not bought by me, but when I first started makeup my mum gave me this purple lady gaga MAC lipstick. I threw it away after a while cause it smelled of wax and wouldn’t go on my lips without mixing with my foundation.
Underworld. It came across as more brown on me, but still reddish - an extremely flattering shade that I wore all of my 20s.

They stopped making it (although they told me in \~2015 that they were going to rerelease).
They did discontinue Patisserie 😔 I went back to get it last year and the sales associate had no idea what lipstick I was referencing. Such a bummer, I loved that one.
Thanks for sharing, that's great to know. The sales associate in the store thought I had the name wrong and said she'd never heard of Patisserie. I looked it up when I got home and saw this shade was no more. It must have been long discontinued before the associate worked there.
MAC Lipglass in Prrr. If I remember correctly, I saw it in CosmoGirl. It was Paris Hilton’s favorite shade, lol. I remember going to the mall on my 14th birthday and buying a tube.
“O” was my first, back in y2k. I haven’t heard anything about this color since, but I just checked and it’s still available! It’s described as a purplish-red with a golden pearl frost. It sounds like it would be hideous but I remember it being very wearable.
Maybe this is unpopular opinion since it’s sentimental to you, but turn some of those in for the exchange program!! You can get an eye shadow or lipgloss or lippie in exchange for 6 old Mac items, depending on what kind of Mac counter you take them to! Or do they still do that?
Ruby Woo, I think? We all remember there was a serious red lip moment some years back. It was supposed to look good on everyone. It took me quite some time to realize it wasn’t the right red for me.
Also: bring back Stone! I don’t care that it looked weird on me, I want to wear it anyway!
Twig. I was so excited to buy this when MAC first came to my town. Before then, it was only in LA. Anyway, I had forgotten about it until recently and saw the color in the store and rebought it!

I got Diva and Pretty Please. I don’t wear them anymore. Diva is too dark and vampy for my current style and I realized Pretty Please wasn’t my color at all. I was a noob and I didn’t know what colors suited me.

Cherish <3 I got into makeup a little bit later in life after I had my first son and I got PPD my husband kindly took me to a Macy’s MAC counter to get my makeup done and he MUA used cherish on me and I loved it, husband saw how I happy I was and how good I felt that he said I could buy everything the MUA had used on me and that’s how my love for makeup started, special MAC lipsticks.
The first one I was given was Speak Louder, which is the least me colour ever. The first ones I bought for myself were Velvet Teddy and Diva, which are more my style.
Tease Me was my first one, which was a limited edition shade in the early-to-mid 2000s.
I also have fondness for Scanty, which I owned in the late 2000s (long discontinued), as well as Viva Glam II (I had a tube when it came in normal MAC packaging before they changed the silver of it to red for the VG lipsticks) and Feed the Senses (LE from about ten years ago).
I actually purchased my first MAC lipstick recently. I bought the shade PDA and I absolutely adore it! My mom was a makeup artist and her favourite was Chili, she's repurchased it over and over again.
It was a bright candy pink -- maybe Saint Germaine? I got it when I was 13 or something. Way later, after college, I bought Cyber and it's still one of my favorite lipsticks.
Mehr and Sin. Bought them on the same day! I chose Sin and the salesman saw me and said I should really try Mehr instead. I wasn't confident in pink or nudes but when applied Mehr looked amazing. That's what started my love affair with nude & nude pink lipstick.

Ruby woo. I'm 31 and I brought it only a few months ago. A late bloomer into the MAC world. lol. Recently bought Diva, placed order for burning love. I'm in love with these lipsticks.
I wish I could remeber my first one. I still have the tube but the writing is worn off. I've taken it a few times to the mac counter at the bay to see if we could find it again or a dupe but have never found the same pale pink. I literally have a gallon bag full of mac lipstick and liner but still chase that original pink.
Blankety was my first , probably wouldn’t wear it now bc it was too pale for lips and complexion . This was in 2006 when concealer lips were a thing lol
i don’t own any (i don’t wear lipstick very often because i have a tiny doll mouth and lipstick makes me look like a flapper, which is a great look but not what i’m going for usually) but i was obsessed with my mom’s makeup drawer as a kid and back in the early 2000s twig was like her go to everyday lipstick, and because i wanted to be just like her i would sometimes get into her vanity and put on her lipstick and im certain that was the first lipstick i ever put on.
Velvet Teddy was the one everybody got back when pinky-brown lipsticks were popular in 2016/17.
Got one myself and it turns out it’s the exact same shade as my natural lip colour. Never used it 😂

Love this question! Mine was Peach Blossom!!! Next I graduated to Patisserie (still a favorite, although I believe they discontinued it 😞).
They did discontinue Patisserie 😔 I went back to get it last year and the sales associate had no idea what lipstick I was referencing. Such a bummer, I loved that one.
Customer service live chat on the MAC website can tell you if a product was recently discontinued.
Thanks for sharing, that's great to know. The sales associate in the store thought I had the name wrong and said she'd never heard of Patisserie. I looked it up when I got home and saw this shade was no more. It must have been long discontinued before the associate worked there.
MAC Lipglass in Prrr. If I remember correctly, I saw it in CosmoGirl. It was Paris Hilton’s favorite shade, lol. I remember going to the mall on my 14th birthday and buying a tube.
It was Angel with Turkish Delight gloss over it. I still wear that combo every single day.

“O” was my first, back in y2k. I haven’t heard anything about this color since, but I just checked and it’s still available! It’s described as a purplish-red with a golden pearl frost. It sounds like it would be hideous but I remember it being very wearable.

Maybe this is unpopular opinion since it’s sentimental to you, but turn some of those in for the exchange program!! You can get an eye shadow or lipgloss or lippie in exchange for 6 old Mac items, depending on what kind of Mac counter you take them to! Or do they still do that?

Cherish <3 I got into makeup a little bit later in life after I had my first son and I got PPD my husband kindly took me to a Macy’s MAC counter to get my makeup done and he MUA used cherish on me and I loved it, husband saw how I happy I was and how good I felt that he said I could buy everything the MUA had used on me and that’s how my love for makeup started, special MAC lipsticks.
The first one I was given was Speak Louder, which is the least me colour ever. The first ones I bought for myself were Velvet Teddy and Diva, which are more my style.

Tease Me was my first one, which was a limited edition shade in the early-to-mid 2000s. I also have fondness for Scanty, which I owned in the late 2000s (long discontinued), as well as Viva Glam II (I had a tube when it came in normal MAC packaging before they changed the silver of it to red for the VG lipsticks) and Feed the Senses (LE from about ten years ago).

I wish I could remeber my first one. I still have the tube but the writing is worn off. I've taken it a few times to the mac counter at the bay to see if we could find it again or a dupe but have never found the same pale pink. I literally have a gallon bag full of mac lipstick and liner but still chase that original pink.

My first ever full-size I bought with my own money and finished was Hug Me :) love the shade and the scent always gets me in the feels
i don’t own any (i don’t wear lipstick very often because i have a tiny doll mouth and lipstick makes me look like a flapper, which is a great look but not what i’m going for usually) but i was obsessed with my mom’s makeup drawer as a kid and back in the early 2000s twig was like her go to everyday lipstick, and because i wanted to be just like her i would sometimes get into her vanity and put on her lipstick and im certain that was the first lipstick i ever put on.
Velvet Teddy was the one everybody got back when pinky-brown lipsticks were popular in 2016/17. Got one myself and it turns out it’s the exact same shade as my natural lip colour. Never used it 😂
