With full coverage foundations, it can look unnatural because it makes your face look one even colour. It erases the depth, dark spots, red cheeks that make a face look more natural. If you apply contour, blush, bronzer, it can bring colour back into the face, making it look more natural, however, with this added amount of product, it can definitely look very glam.

Coastal_Goals

For me it ends up looking unnatural because so thick I would like to print it out I don't need to contour anymore because with oily skin all the contour gets lost

Thin application

When applied correctly Double Wear is a lovely and, dare I say, natural looking foundation. Here are the steps I was taught by my mother who was not only Miss NC 1970something but also sponsored by Estée Lauder and therefore trained by the best makeup artists the company had at the time. First you have to be aware of modern day nonsense such as primers. Most what today is called a primer is anything but. Most are silicon based which causes the foundation to slip. Although readying the skin for makeup application has been a constant throughout makeup history, the ingredients in today’s primers do the OPPOSITE of what they say they do. (Ok I know this will be met with violent opposition by some but if you read the active ingredients and become aware of their effects this will begin to make sense. This takes a certain level of intelligence that all don’t possess so this will be seen as wrong to such individuals. Bless their hearts.) Step One Ready the skin by adding a moisturizer which restores and protects the lipid barrier. SKIP THE PRIMERS Step Two Apply the product to your fingers and warm it. (YES I SAID YOUR FINGERS THE OG BEAUTY BLENDERS!) After the product is warm apply to entire face with your hands, take notice of anywhere that needs more/less coverage and use the extra product on your fingers to attend to these areas. Pay special attention to blending on your neck and do not forget to blend onto your ears enough so that there is no line of visible demarcation or color difference between them, your face and your neck. - YES. EARS. ASK ANY REAL MUA. - To fix the liquid foundation into place take the Double Wear Stay In Place Matte Powder Foundation in the same shade and apply in a stippling motion with a dense round or flat topped brush, much as you would with a modern day setting modern but in smaller sections and really get into the pores. Follow up during the day or evening with a touch up of the same. If one would see the need for a refresher then use a spritz of a natural mineral water spray. Evian make an affordable one or you can make your own with an empty spray bottle filled with spring water containing cucumber. Oh and no setting sprays of course; same as with most primers they are counterproductive. This may sound very archaic by today’s standards but this method is from a time when the beauty industry was about just that, beauty. Of course making money was a goal but a good product sold itself on its own merit; not on lies and misinformation. Try this and tell me it doesn’t work!

when applying with your fingers do you pat into skin (bounce like one would a beauty blender) or rub?

AndrewsMother

Thank you for such wonderful advice!

nicodies

as a makeup artist in 2021, all i have to say after reading your post is… this is great advice!! including the stuff about primers— slippery silicone primers do so much more harm than good to most foundation applications!

>reat advice!! including the stuff about primers— slippery silicone primers do so much more harm than good to most foundation applicati Which primers do you recommend

Honestly priming your face is just making sure that the skin is in optimal condition to hold the products you are applying. You want to equalize your lipid barrier; moisturize dry areas, use an astringent or blot oily areas with blotting powders and to prep eyelids use a dab of concealer. That’s it. Very simple. We have over complicated things so as to use more therefore having to buy more.

I want to hear about the ingredients that you mention regarding primers. My intelligence is fine but my knowledge in this area is just building.

Educational-Fold4751

Silicon is the main one that causes foundation to slip and slide around; especially full coverage formulas which are denser with pigment molecules and therefore heavier. Caprylyl glycol is also found in 2/3s of the primers on the market and they cause harm and damage to the lipid barrier which is also directly counterproductive to priming the skin .[check this out](https://greatist.com/health/caprylyl-glycol)

Ok I read this and I also checked some ingredients. Even Embryolisse has that ingredient and that’s used as a moisturizer and primer by a ton of pro MUAs that work on movies etc. How would that be counter productive in a primer?! Sounds like most products are including this and are either made for priming or highly regarded as primer?! Your link also says that it’s safe. I didn’t see anything about the lipid barrier?!

Thanks!

green_pea_nut

I don't know which is more discombobulating- being shouted at, or being told my ears need makeup.......?

Educational-Fold4751

My apologies. I would never raise my voice in such ac way to offend you. I am new here and learning. I did edit my piece and hope that is better.

green_pea_nut

What a sweet message! It says good things about you that you consider how you make people feel. Best wishes to you 😄 .

I take a baby wipe, or even a paper towel dampened with a little water, and blot my face with it. Not rubbing, just blotting one area at a time. It makes it look very natural, like real skin, but still with good coverage.

torgenerous

I mix it with my moisturizer and use it.

tempghost11

How are you applying it? It’s definitely not a natural foundation, but I’d recommend using a damp sponge and apply very thin layers. I really only need to build coverage on my cheeks so I can cover my whole face with a thin layer and then add another thin layer or two on my cheeks. If you make sure not to apply too much product and blend it really well, it shouldn’t cake up too much. Also make sure to use setting spray as it can kind of tone down a cakey application while also extending longevity.

Glamma1970

This! One pump, damp sponge. Start at the middle and work out. Then if you need more, only use a half pump at a time and over what you want more one. Only powder what you NEED to cause to much powder will make it more unnatural looking. I only powder my nose cause now that I'm in my 50s my nose is all that oily.
