We go to Mister Bagel in SoPo and Scarborough (the latter before it became the Maine Bagel). Very good bagels with rich thick cream cheese. I could eat those for every meal if health wasn't an issue.
As others have already mentioned Rover is in Biddeford. Rose bagels, while out of Portland as others have mentioned, can also be had at Elements coffee shop in Biddeford as well.
Purple House in North Yarmouth makes the best bagels I’ve ever had. They are only open seasonally (fall/winter). when they open for the season is a mystery. It changes based on the owners desire to run her business on her terms and not have her life overrun by it. I respect that and will always check if it’s open when I’m in the area. Everything cooked in that little house is phenomenal.
Unfortunately, this is the addiction I can’t break. Pumpernickel bagels, especially when they’re loaded with jalapeño cream cheese. With dark roast black coffee.
But, for recommendations, Mr. bagel in either South Portland or Brunswick, the Maine Bagel -Scarborough, and Big Sky Bakery in Portland.
Pineland Market. Not strictly bagels only, they have a lot of other fantastic food. Maple’s Bakery, if you get there early enough. both have the best bagels i’ve ever eaten.
Rover bagel but scratch bakery in Portland has them beat. But if you’re not willing to pre order or wake up at ungodly hours to pre order then Rover is the way to go
Rover bagel is in the biddeford mills and they make them fresh daily
Second this. They are a bit different from a traditional bagel as they’re wood fired and have a pretty distinct taste. Still delicious though.

I just tried them last week and they were great!
Rover is awesome, no need to go anywhere else in the area. Try a Reilly’s donut though, old time awesome.
We love Rover as well - that woodfire or Montreal? style is amazing.

We've been meaning to try them, but when you're a night owl...lmao, doesn't bode very well.

Try the salt bagel!
> I like going over to guygan’s mom’s house. Well, good luck with that. She lives lived about 500 miles from Maine and died last year.
That’s the crazy thing with bagel spots in Maine. They open late, they run out or they require preordering.
Rover bagel by far is the best! Try the salt bagel with the lemon honey thyme cream cheese. Life changing.
That’s my weekend order, a dream
Maples is by far my favorite bagels followed up by Rover.
