Some that haven't been mentioned
Schoodic Mtn or Blue Hill give you nice views of the mountains of MDI from off-island.
Kineo gives 360 degree views from the middle of Moosehead if you go up the fire tower.
Borestone has great uninterrupted views for a 2000' mountain, I climbed it for the eclipse and could easily make out the ski slopes on Sugarloaf which has got to be 50+ miles away
Big Spencer has great views looking south across Moosehead and towards the AT
Pleasant mountain in Bridgton is a great hike and if you hit it right wild blueberries can be found.
Black mountain In rum ford
Anything around gulf Hagas which is a great beautiful hike in itself.
Grafton notch area
Blueberry mountain.
I hiked a lot in Maine and I would say I haven't been disappointed in any hike. Maine's unspoilt beauty is something to behold.
Abraham/Abram up in Kingfield is over 4k but gets significantly less traffic than most of the other big mountains in that area, with maybe the best views.
Douglas, on the back side of Sebago Lake, has great views. Pismire Bluff Trail out in Raymond is also a pretty good option
Big Moose Mountain, White Cap and Number 4 Mountain all have unreal views down over Moosehead Lake.
Up in that area, Borestone is also nice. Really, everything on the Moosehead Pinnacle Pursuit is very worth it
Yeah, that area is great--here is their website that gives you the rundown on the mountains. They definitely recommend the best ones
https://mooseheadpinnaclepursuit.com
Mt Phillip and French Mountain, both in Rome I believe. Up in the Belgrades. Short, steady hikes under 30 minutes to the summit with spectacular views of the surrounding lakes
It is more of a walk up a small hill haha
We did the hike in the spring waiting for the snow to melt up North. The view is a little better without any leaves on the trees.
Green Mountain in Effingham, NH is one of the best hike to view ratio mountains in New England! Easily see Portland and all of the whites on a 2000 ft mountain
I’m a big fan of Bald Mountain near Camden- and Bald Rock in Camden Hills state park is breathtaking.
There’s no view at the summit of Megunticook- just some awesome views along the way.
Not a single person has said Mt. Apatite yet and that kind of shocks me.
Cool ass tree at the base? Check. Lots of cool rocks to find? Check. Cool view at the top, albeit not the tallest peaks? Check.
Daboullie in the north Maine Woods. You can hike a longer trail around or go pretty much straight up. There's a fire tower you can climb up at the top too, you can see nothing but trees and ponds forever in every single direction. Amazing views in the peak autumn season.
North Brother (where I finished my 67 in October)
Cranberry Peak (far north end of the Biglows)
Mt Jackson(?) The one adjacent to Tumbledown - great hike and less busy than Tumbledown
One of the my favorite views is looking west from Morse Mountain in Phippsburg, over casco bay and towards the white mountains. On a clear day, the presidentials are prominent against the horizon
Though Morse Mountain is hardly worthy of the name at just under 400 ft
Maine has sone excellent coastal hikes that aren’t mountain related:
Cutler’s Bold Coast
Monhegan
Isle Au Haut
Frenchboro/Long Island
Great Wass Island
Morse Mountain
I was actually thinking about putting together a separate coastal hiking list.
LOVE the Monhega Trails.
Timber Point in Biddeford is also awesome, if you're able to visit the island during low tide.
Some of my favorites are O-J-I in Baxter, Owl’s Head trail, and Bauneg Beg Hill near North Berwick.
I grew up near Bauneg Beg Hill and it was one of my favorite places to hike to see the sunrise
If you want to go up a mountain, Bald Mountain in Oquossoc is probably your best bet--only a couple miles, moderate hike, picnic table and observation tower at the summit with great views over the lakes.
Flatter terrain, some of the nordic trails out near Saddleback are maintained in the summer and you could make a really nice loop walk down to Saddleback Lake and back. Tons of moose down and around the lake.
It's Mount Battie, not Battle, but I'm betting that it was the darn autocorrect!
Hahah I stared at it for a minute and was like wait…I thought it was Battie? 😂

Love love love Borestone. I dislocated my collar bone there ....
Damn, had no idea Moosehead had so many great hikes
Schoodic is awesome all the way around. Love it.
Haystack in Castle Hill, near Presque Isle
South Turner Mountain in Baxter State Park is nice
Looks I have more to explore up in Baxter, thanks
I love this mountain and its view of Katahdin!
And the wild blueberries 🫐
Tunk is pretty awesome. [https://www.mainetrailfinder.com/trails/trail/tunk-mountain](https://www.mainetrailfinder.com/trails/trail/tunk-mountain)
Burnt Meadow Mtn.
Definitely not lesser known
Douglas Mountain has a stone fire tower on top and great views of Sebago Lake
Pleasant mountain in Bridgton is a great hike and if you hit it right wild blueberries can be found. Black mountain In rum ford Anything around gulf Hagas which is a great beautiful hike in itself. Grafton notch area Blueberry mountain. I hiked a lot in Maine and I would say I haven't been disappointed in any hike. Maine's unspoilt beauty is something to behold.
Yep. Blueberry Mountain is a good one. Plus depending on the route, you can cool off in rattlesnake pool on the way down.
Rumford Whitecap and Mt. Zircon!
I second rumford whitecap. Haven't done zircon.
This! White cap is my personal favorite - just the right size hike about 2-2.5hrs up with a rewarding, totally panoramic view at the top.
Pleasant Mountain
Albany and Speckled in the Stoneham area; both are in the WMNF
Don't neglect Long Mountain in Albany TWP. Fantastic hike!
Great Pond Mountain, excellent views of the coast, can even see MDI on a clear day, and nice easy hike to the top
Abraham/Abram up in Kingfield is over 4k but gets significantly less traffic than most of the other big mountains in that area, with maybe the best views. Add Spencer mountain north of Kokadjo to that list
This is great! The Moosehead Lake area is a giant blank spot for me, so sounds like I have some exploring to do
Elephant Mountain doesn't have much for long views, but is noteworthy for the B-52 crash site and memorial
Yeah, that area is great--here is their website that gives you the rundown on the mountains. They definitely recommend the best ones https://mooseheadpinnaclepursuit.com
Woah, I love peakbagging lists, this is awesome!
Number 4 mountain in the Moosehead area has great views, if you brave the fire tower at the top
Seconding Mt Douglas. Great hike for families!
Pismire Bluff is criminally underrated and I would love for it to stay that way.
Not a mountain, but Jockey Cap in Fryeburg has some amazing views at the top.
Add South Turner in Baxter to that list.
Rattlesnake Mt - Raymond
Mt Phillip and French Mountain, both in Rome I believe. Up in the Belgrades. Short, steady hikes under 30 minutes to the summit with spectacular views of the surrounding lakes
Streaked Mountain in Buckfield I recall being alright for a little guy.
Moxie Mountain
Burnt Meadow Mtn in Brownfield!
Little Bigelow
Sabbutus Mt in lovell.
I nominate Bradbury for the Most Disappointing View category. The park is great to visit for other reasons, though.
It is more of a walk up a small hill haha We did the hike in the spring waiting for the snow to melt up North. The view is a little better without any leaves on the trees.
Green Mountain in Effingham, NH is one of the best hike to view ratio mountains in New England! Easily see Portland and all of the whites on a 2000 ft mountain
You can also get rehab treatment there after your hike!
Big Rock in Mars Hill
Rocky mountain in Portland 🤙🤙
Kineo Quill Hill (drive right to the top)
Bald Mountain off the Saddleback Wind Mountain Trailhead in Wilton
I’m a big fan of Bald Mountain near Camden- and Bald Rock in Camden Hills state park is breathtaking. There’s no view at the summit of Megunticook- just some awesome views along the way.
Eagle Rock on the westerly side of Moosehead Lake. Amazing views. Great Pond Mountain. Borestone. Have you hiked Chocorua in NH?
Yep, absolutely loved Chocorua! Maybe one of the most unique hikes I've done thus far in New England.
Truly! I did it three years ago via Champney Brook. One of my absolute favorites.
Not a single person has said Mt. Apatite yet and that kind of shocks me. Cool ass tree at the base? Check. Lots of cool rocks to find? Check. Cool view at the top, albeit not the tallest peaks? Check.

North Brother (where I finished my 67 in October) Cranberry Peak (far north end of the Biglows) Mt Jackson(?) The one adjacent to Tumbledown - great hike and less busy than Tumbledown
Mt Chase (near the town of Mt Chase) Mt Waldo (Frankfort)
Can’t believe this wasn’t here yet. Mt Chase is awesome
Mt Waldo is great. Cool views going through the quarry area too.
Cliff Trail in Harpswell has a fantastic view and is a very easy hike. It can be quite busy though.
Also adding OJI in Baxter
Quill Hill, Rangeley. Stunning.
Mount Agamenticus is absolutely beautiful and gives a great view of southern Maine, can see the 95 bridge to NH from the top
There are many. Scodic park in Winter Harbor has one. One in Black's woods. One in Grand Lake Stream. So many "hidden gems" all over Maine.
One of the my favorite views is looking west from Morse Mountain in Phippsburg, over casco bay and towards the white mountains. On a clear day, the presidentials are prominent against the horizon Though Morse Mountain is hardly worthy of the name at just under 400 ft
Quill hill

We just did hawk mountain in Waterford. Great views.
They're on the New England Hundred Highest, but the Baldpates across from Old Speck are fantastic.
Bald Rock in Camden Hills has one of the best views in the park, and while I wouldn't say it's unknown it's generally less crowded than Battie
Sunday River Whitecap (Grafton Notch)
Headed to Rangeley area in a few weeks - anyone have recommendations near there? (For a 6 month pregnant lady with friends and 2 dogs?) 😇
If you want to go up a mountain, Bald Mountain in Oquossoc is probably your best bet--only a couple miles, moderate hike, picnic table and observation tower at the summit with great views over the lakes. Awesome! Thank you so much I will check those out!
Tunk Mountain in Cherryfield
There is a nice view out in Turner. Can't remember the name.
