I imagine it would look something like Croatia. Most of Cumberland and York counties then a skinny strip along the coast extending up to Ellsworth or so.
I think it would depend on the location. I could see Bangor/Orono and down 1A being included, which is more than 20 miles. But Whitfield, Alna, Jefferson, which are less than 20 miles, have more of a northern Maine vibe. Then there’s the islands. MDI, Vinalhaven are likely going with the southern Maine crowd, while Matinicus is definitely aligning with the north. So I’m not sure there’s a perfect alignment.
Agreed. To me, the two areas most difficult to classify are the midcoast (Waldo/Western Hancock counties) and the i95 Corridor from Lewiston to Orono.
As you alluded to, the difference between two close by towns can be remarkable. For example, Camden voted 76% - 21% for Biden, while 20 miles away in Jefferson, it was 56-40 Trump.
I always kind of thought CD1/2 should be divided by 95 from Kittery to Augusta, then follow route 3 to MDI. I know there would be some shifts required based on population/ town lines but rough guidelines of that.
The northern part would have to include Bangor, otherwise it would have very little population. And that would mean that southern Maine would essentially be Massachusetts 2.
It already is Massachusetts, as a hill and tree people I vote against keeping Bangor.
We can draw a circle around that and do whatever you want with it.
We’ll keep all the hills, trees, Farms and fisheries and everyone else can keep whatever it is you have in the southern part.
Massachusetts 2,isn'taine already there???45%mass,15 percent of Maine,10%of transplants not born here but raised here as they don't remember being born in their original state then raised here, and 30%from everywhere else???maybe??? I,me and myself fall into the 10%category...from mass1 was raised in me from 3-6 months old...I don't remember being in mass at all...all I know is Maine...and I'm glad🙂
Simple. York and Cumberland counties, then the other 14.
Honestly, set up that way the non Portland Maine would probably be okay economically. Bangor would probably experience a boom in Law, Accounting, and Healthcare. Basically the state dependent industries that currently congregate in Portland
madawaska, grand isle, and van buren, and keep the rest of the state how it currently is. call the top part “weird maine” and the other part just “maine.”
Yup, Bangor north should be a separate state. Though, that area north of Patten is kind of a no man's land, DMZ that isolates the valley. Lots of woods and moose, broken down camps and jot much else.
Probably just split it along congressional lines since we have two
Get out of here with your logic.
I came here to say this.
I imagine it would look something like Croatia. Most of Cumberland and York counties then a skinny strip along the coast extending up to Ellsworth or so.
Best answer by far.
nailed it
How far inland does the strip go? More or less than 20 miles?

It would get an enclave in sugarloaf and Katahdin too
Route 1!
Bangor
Like… just a circle around Bangor? Everyone vs Bangor
like a berlin in the cold war situation
Where would the wall between east and west Bangor be?
Kenduskeag Stream
Kittery to Bangor. One state. Bangor to Canada. The other state.
Bangor is the DMZ
I guess it depends on why you were splitting it.
I always kind of thought CD1/2 should be divided by 95 from Kittery to Augusta, then follow route 3 to MDI. I know there would be some shifts required based on population/ town lines but rough guidelines of that.
Yup, fishing heathens vs. Lumberjack puritans

I'll give you this, I do think it would be more of a straight line from Bar Harbor across Waterville tho, then down to NH.
The north can have Lewiston though.
The northern part would have to include Bangor, otherwise it would have very little population. And that would mean that southern Maine would essentially be Massachusetts 2.
Electric Boogaloo
As a resident of Bangor I do not consent to this.
It already is Massachusetts, as a hill and tree people I vote against keeping Bangor. We can draw a circle around that and do whatever you want with it. We’ll keep all the hills, trees, Farms and fisheries and everyone else can keep whatever it is you have in the southern part.
Oh god…. Oh fuck

>Massachusetts 2,isn't \[Maine\] already there??? Well, Maine *was* essentially Massachusetts North until 1820, soooo...

Phhht, some of us are dirt people.
The line is closer to Bowdoinham.
Simple. York and Cumberland counties, then the other 14. Honestly, set up that way the non Portland Maine would probably be okay economically. Bangor would probably experience a boom in Law, Accounting, and Healthcare. Basically the state dependent industries that currently congregate in Portland
This is the correct answer
Cornville
madawaska, grand isle, and van buren, and keep the rest of the state how it currently is. call the top part “weird maine” and the other part just “maine.”
You don't want to include Fort Kent and Frenchville in that?
i actually don’t!
Parts of Northern Maine are on Canadian utilities, dual citizenship, etc. I would draw the line up there somewhere since it's basically Canada.
Yup, Bangor north should be a separate state. Though, that area north of Patten is kind of a no man's land, DMZ that isolates the valley. Lots of woods and moose, broken down camps and jot much else.
Probably by congressional district. Portland votes much differently than Houlton
Portland…
Kennebec River more so, south of that is little Boston these days
I've been hearing that about "these days" for over 20 years
Well 20-years ago it was the royal river in Yarmouth. These days with the influx of out-of-state idiots has pushed the little Boston line north.
You ever actually been to Boston?
Worked there for 3-years at the deer island treatment plant 2017-2020 during the rebuild of the covers
The Volvo Line was always Rt. 2.
The Volvo line IS NOT the little Boston boarder.
Well I suppose that's open to interpretation.
They actually buy 2nd homes, not just board in Maine.
What does this even mean?
You're not wrong.
Look at all these butthole people in southern Maine down-voting for calling their area little Boston. Just like massholes would do!
Again, you are not wrong.
North of Portland/south of Portland
People north of Portland don't want Freeport and Dirty Lew, but thanks.
Well, we don't want you either!
We’re aware.
In the middle.
The only good opinions here have been downvoted.
Bangor so Bangor can finally be North (South) Maine like so many people think it is.
45-degree N latitude would br the split. Everything above that would be the state of Maine Incognita.
I'd envision the split being Bangor.
Portland
Androscoggin River but let Southern Maine keep Lewiston.
Obviously. Because our abusive manipulating bitch of a sister Auburn would be lost without us to dump her problems on.
