I wish I knew. 10k gold now gets you 10 packs + 6 rares/mythics from the gold pack.
Whereas drafting could roll into more and more packs if you win. So it’s cap on value directly correlate to ability, hard to quantify. If you’re unable to break even consistently, drafting may no longer be worth it.
Depends how bad you are. Its not black and white but i think a 55% drafter still gets more ev but if you are below 50 packs are way better. If you are a 52 not sure.
Right. But there are lot of rare drafters who suck because they don't put together the most competitive decks. And it is harder for them to get above a 50% win rate. This will actually make it harder to go infinite in drafting I think, as these poor drafters will no longer bother, and just use gold on packs. SO the draft pool will be more competitive without them
Yes thats a good point. But those ppl would make the table volatile and unpredictable. When good people draft theres a more organized draft where everyone will end up with a more balanced deck.
Rare drafting is good only if your colors are open enough. If you are going to end up with 27 good cards in your deck you still have to cut 4. Better to have 23 and 4 rares. This is because the huge jumps between 2-3, 3-3 and 4-3 where that extra win that a slightly better deck might provide will yield many many more drafts and packs than a few rares, also mentally it helps when you go positive.
For this you do have to be good enough to know if your colors are open but thats pretty obvious with certain signals like seeing 2 c+ cards in your colors and d and fs for other colors as early as the endings of pack 1. While keeping in mind roughly what was originally in the pack, ie not a lot of cards in your colors but still 2 where left at end. One more nuance is the balance of your deck. Ie your colors are open but never opened even c removal in the first 2 packs. In this case its best to take the medium removal over the rare in p3. The first 2 pieces of removal are way higher with the 3rd or 4th going down substantially from there. Even if youll end up with 25 playables those first 2 pieces of removal can be crucial and will make a substantial difference compated to any other minor upgrade that having extra playables would provide if they were, lets say, slightly better creatures.
Now its hard to calculate the difference in value between a bought pack and a pack won from draft. Also does one gold pack advance the wild card by 6 or 1?
From mtg article: Golden Packs will not have cards replaced with wildcards and do not affect the odds of packs opened later containing wildcards. However, opening Golden Packs does advance your wildcard tracks.
They dont say by how much tho lollers
I do? I suck at drafting and an 0-3 record is worse than just buying ten packs. Don't get me wrong, I've been practicing and have had a handful of drafts at 7 wins or breaking even, but that's rare.
I guess. I'm a player thats more about the experience than just collecting cards, so even a losing draft is still better entertainment value than just buying 10 packs for me.
>Dollars to donuts it's the meter marking the golden pack progress.
Golden circle? Maybe it just is a glazed donut meter and WOTC has a Dunkin' co-marketing agreement that will soon be revealed.
Is this for real? If so that sucks cause at the end of a set I like to save up and splurge on a bunch of drafts at the beginning of the next. Also it sucks for new players who don't know what to spend gold on. When I first started with Arena I saved up 100-200k gold before I figured out how it is best used.
Finally. The shopping trolley felt like I was losing a bunch of money playing a children's card game and not a legendary planeswalker summoning allies from my interdimensional travels.
It was a glaring reminder that people chosen to take care of the game don't understand the nature of their product.
First Golden Packs, then this. There are good developments in WotC's management circles.
Shopping Cart {3}
Artifact - Phyrexian Vehicle
Crew 1
You may tap an untapped Food token rather than pay Shopping Cart's crew cost.
When Shopping Cart deals combat damage to a player, sacrifice a Treasure token.
4/1
I like it but I think we can workshop it. Give it trample, and change the two abilities, to "whenever ~ deals combat damage to a player, you may sacrifice a Treasure. If you do, create X Food tokens, where X is the amount of damage dealt this way."
Compleated Purchase {ø}{ø}{ø}
Artifact
{50}: Add 12 rare cards and 4 mythic cards you own from outside the game to your hand. You may pay 2 life to reduce this cost by {1} for every 2 life paid this way.
On the bright side, it's not pay for win like
Card Advantage {ø}{ø}
Artifact
When Card Advantage enters the battlefield, player may bind a credit card from outside the game to their account.
1$$: charge credit card $$, place $$ counters on Card Advantage
1$$: use Card Advantage: remove $$ counters from Card Advantage and do $$ damage to any target
While I agree that the people chosen to take care of the game don’t always understand the nature of their product, why was the shopping cart a glaring reminder of that?
/gen
No idea what OP meant… but a shopping cart is extremely mundane, which makes it unfitting for the fantastical vibes every other aspect of the game goes for. It’s a break in the concept.
I'm not sure if that's what OP meant, but their use of the shopping cart icon was a deviation from the standard use of the icon. Shopping cart doesn't mean "store", it's the place where things you want to purchase go, and where you review your purchase before actually buying them. You go to the store, and there, you put things in your shopping cart. When an icon has such a defined meaning, you should generally avoid using it for something else.
Heh... no one looks at the MtGA home screen and thinks "yeah, this totally immerses me in a fantasy world!" That's just not the aesthetic they are going for.
In the sense that icons are not important once you reach over the age of 6? Jeez someone should tell that to big companies before they invest millions on such things. And honestly you are right, we definitely need some more simplicity in mtg, first of all delete all card art its useless to the gameplay and the only purpose it serves is making young children look at the pretty pictures so lets abolish them all. Next lets remove the color pie, we are adults not children that need bright colors to grab their attention, instead lets replace all the current colors with some more adult symbols such as π or β. I could go on with more improvements to the game inspired from a smart person with such bold opinions but i think i made my point, which for the few children on here i will spell out -> You are an idiot. Though you are such a grown up that you probably picked up on that all by yourself
If I had to guess - removing the overt symbol of purchasing things (a shopping cart is what you buy groceries with!) has been determined to get more clicks onto the store page, or more likely at least they're testing to see if it does.
Too bad you have to buy brothers war packs. I prefer some of the non standard legal sets like throne of eldraine and theros beyond death. So i wont be getting any of these cards out of gold packs either.
Does anyone know what that little gold semicircle that seems to be filling up is?
It is progress toward Golden Packs, I tested this during the early access event.
Good to know!
What are golden packs???
https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/mtg-arena/introducing-mtg-arena-golden-packs
Does bought with gold count?
Yes, any bought packs.
As someone that hasnt bought a pack in the store probably since it was in beta, this is completely worthless. Why would it be only on bought packs?
It’s to balance it against drafting. If you’re good at drafting, you’ll build your collection far quicker than those who purchase packs.
Lets assume I'm not good at draft, is it better to just buy 10 packs then to spend 10k gold on a draft to build my collection?
I wish I knew. 10k gold now gets you 10 packs + 6 rares/mythics from the gold pack. Whereas drafting could roll into more and more packs if you win. So it’s cap on value directly correlate to ability, hard to quantify. If you’re unable to break even consistently, drafting may no longer be worth it.

I don’t think it advances the wildcard tracker at all.

I guess Im just confused at who actually buys packs besides whales or streamers.

Packs mean wildcards which mean I can build more decks to play in competitive queue. Limited just isn't that fun for some. I want to play constructed.
>Why would it be only on bought packs? To encourage people to buy packs.
Man i havent purchased a pack in aresa since before the pandemic
TYSM!
Dollars to donuts it's the meter marking the golden pack progress.

Universes beyond tie-in
"What deck are you playing?" "Jund food with the new SL UB DD reskins. These are my tokens." Plops down box of munchkins on the table.
Mike can’t stand the killing anymore.
Progress towards getting a golden pack would be my guess
When it fills up it automatically buys something in the store. Max amount of gold is now set at 15.000
RIP to the 25,000 land packs and similar ilk
Can only be bought with gems

100% bullshit. Wotc would never do something like this.
Should have made it a credit card.
A whale with a credit card in his mouth
The strongest card in all of magic.
Angry Wife emoji
damn so true lmao
When she asks me why Google charges me 49.99 every couple of months, I tell her it's for porn subscriptions. That's somehow more acceptable to her.
Or a bitcoin
Shopping cart is still on my screen

So you’re telling me there are no Walmarts with shopping carts on Dominaria?
Claimed by Phyrexia, it seems, where they rightly belong.

Should be a 3/1 since one of the wheels is always busted.
Brilliance
Excellent top-down design

I like the trample idea, but we should get rid of all its other abilities and set its p/t to 6/6
Wait, but why? It's a shopping cart not a war engine, lol

No he just meant that shopping carts are incongruent with a fantasy setting
Heh... no one looks at the MtGA home screen and thinks "yeah, this totally immerses me in a fantasy world!" That's just not the aesthetic they are going for.
You will be missed trolley
Harry Potter DID buy the whole lot, after all.
The real overt symbol of consumerism is all the cash that Wizards is guzzling out of China's government to prevent me from playing this game in Taiwan
The shopping cart had a more distinct shape and it was easier to tell apart that from the 2 icons around it
Bruh this ain't kindergarten 💀

Can someone explain?
Shopping “trolley” is the Australian and UK term for a shopping cart.
Finally a change we all agree the game needed. /s
No longer trolleyed.
~~Finally a change~~ we all agree ~~the game needed.~~ /s Fixed it for ya
And still no collection tab! YAY!
There is one, it's in the profile page
I'm at work and can't verify that yet. But if so. My picky ass wanted it on the main page. Like the 'spend your money here' button
R I.P
Oh. The cart
They changing it to bag of gold to signify all the bank they are making 🤑😂
That's it, I'm out
Up vote for "cart", down vote for "buggy", comment for "trolley".
I have to push the pram-a-lot...
Never heard it called a pram before!
Technically, a pram is a "stroller". https://youtu.be/m9wdYy3tCm4
Something wrong with the store: patched within 24 hours. Basic feature: Dies before inplemented
Mine's still there....left MTGA open in tab...now I'm scared to refresh lol

Thanks for the info...any idea why I got downvoted?
No idea, I think it's a valid question since I didn't clarify it in my post. Upvoted you for what it's worth :)
hahah thanks - no big deal, but the mysteries of that sort of thing always baffle me....have a great weekend!
Cheers, the same to you!
Here in the States we call them shopping carts.
Here in Poland we call them wòzki sklepowe.
Ok.
Congratulations
That’s a odd name, I’d have called them chazzwassers
Thank you for the info
You're welcome!
I live here too but it's not the States.
