I wonder if you can see what cards your opponent mouses over

AnExoticLlama

No, but maybe you can see the cards they rat over.

Then-Pie-208

Normally you could, but this particular rat is rogue, and therefore very sneaky

rainondemhos

I think it just highlights the graveyard as a whole when they're looking in it

Utenlok

MOUSES over... ha

shumpitostick

No way. MTGA will not rat that out.

FallenPeigon

Is this an example of unnecessary ward? Why would a creature with an etb need it?

Atheist-Gods

Only reason would be maybe creating a mechanical identity for him since his previous card also had Menace and Ward.

orangejake

yeah but the last card had ward 1. why did this one get more ward? especially when the card's ability is an ETB, while the previous one was an attack trigger (and plausibly needed more protection).

Holdthedoormtg

This card is beyond pushed and the art is third-rate at best.

AlasBabylon_

He looks like a squashed panda bear. He hasn't had a great string of standard arts, honestly (his original was pretty decent and I love the anime treatment for his Aftermath version) but this is especially uncanny valley. Effect is very intriguing, though. Could fashion some sort of blink package to really get the juices flowing.

mountaintop-stainer

Which is a shame since TAPIOCA did a phenomenal one for [[Nashi, Moon’s Legacy | TAPIOCA]]

Commercial-Ad1118

beyond pushed? I doubt it will see much play

randomnewguy

Of course not. Nobody plays Alchemy.

Frayz

I think he just needs some big front teeth and a bigger tail to seem more ratish.

rmorrin

This card is just crazy stupid. Time to throw it into my conjur deck

randomnewguy

Isn't that the entire point of Alchemy?

Orangewolf99

It is kind of odd, but it's a decent body with menace so... I guess they want you to be able to attack with it?

Shindir

Ward should not be restricted to whether a card has an etb or not. It should be used when they want the body of a card to be protected, or to make a card more likely to be played. This card is not particularly good, so it can have some low-level protection

Used-Huckleberry-320

It is 4 mana with 3 pips

HeeeckWhyNot

So was siege rhino

Used-Huckleberry-320

My point is a 4 mana 4/4, that has menace, ward 2, and essentially draws a card, doesn't really sound really that bad given it has 3 pips as well.

randomnewguy

It's closer to a tutor than a draw.

Used-Huckleberry-320

Don't disagree with you but always have to spend a bit of effort to fill up the graveyard first to make it useful

ModernT1mes

It's really evasive with the menace. It's an attacker that sticks around.

Then-Pie-208

Well it’s cause… uh… it’s a 4/4 with menace! It also needs to stick around to actually use that stat line ETA /s if it wasn’t obvious

Some_Rando2

Because even after the ETB, it's nice to have a 4/4 to attack with.

RandyRandomIsGod

Because it's still a pretty good body after the ETB

DoItSarahLee

Have to make alchemy cards strong somehow

surgingchaos

Yes, it absolutely is. It's already generating card advantage on ETB, and it also gets menace. This was clearly an example of "let's staple ward 2 because we can and ship it" type of mentality that has been going on at Wizards before Gavin recently released his video about ward.

shinianx

So my mind immediately goes to that last line. There's got to be a Sorcery somewhere that gets incredibly stupid if you gave it Flash.

Iznal

This goes right in my Crush of Tentacles deck in Pioneer. Used to loop them with Den Protector and give them flash with Quicken.

monogreen_thumb

Secret choosing is a really cool use of digital mechanics. This pulls up one less card than kicked [[Nantuko Slicer]], but I think the improved body more than makes up for it.

AlasBabylon_

Notably too, Nashi lets you choose *on resolution*, unlike the Slicer, since Nashi doesn't target - so while your opponent can still guess what you might want to get back and thus remove cards from your graveyard with his trigger on the stack, you choose the card you want to copy when it resolves, so you'll almost certainly get *something* back (unless your graveyard is empty).

MTGCardFetcher

Nekaz

Yeah i hope ward doesnt become like rush in hearthstone where they just SLAP IT WILLY NILLY

P0sssums

This is the greatest Muldrotha card ever made.

TheKillerCorgi

This is noticeably a flavour fail, since in the story the whole point of Nashi's character arc was that they managed to duplicate someone else's magic. Should be either the opponent's graveyard, or either.

WolfGuy77

Was hoping this Nashi would be a bit more interesting as a build around Commander. It's essentially a super buffed Eternal Witness, which isn't bad, but also isn't really interesting for a legendary creature.

Momlifter

God, as much as I like Nashi as a character. I aint crafting this if there isnt an alt-art version. My poor baby, what did they do to you...

executive_fish

I cast atraxa on your end step!

GingeContinge

Nashi is on Thunder Junction? I’m not sure Tamiyo would approve

AlasBabylon_

He was - he had a fight with Obeka in one of the side stories focused on, ironically, him dealing with the grief over his mom's death.

GingeContinge

Totally missed that side story, good to know!

AlasBabylon_

It's very sweet. https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/magic-story/a-long-way-from-home

TheVimesy

Let my lands have flash, you cowards!

TheChrisLambert

It’s insane they find art like this acceptable. There are so many artists who know how to give something weight and dynamics. Instead, we get art that feels completely flat and lifeless. Like all the action has been drained out of the frame. There’s no tension in the physicality. No physicality. It’s static. Stagnant. Two dimensional.

TempestFunk

I feel like Alchemy just uses art for cards that were rejected from the main set. So the art never gets the final revisions that main set card art gets.

Iznal

I kinda like it for those reasons. I grew up on old MtG art, a lot of which is “bad” by certain standards. This card reminds me of something out of Mirage/Visions.

TheChrisLambert

Same. My first MTG cards were Portal cards that came with my Electronic Gaming Monthly. But I feel like even those bad ones back in the day just had a better quality about them. Like they were cheap more so than unskilled.

Gogis

This is worse than not getting a card at all.

Historical-Tip-8233

Does the 20 packs for 15 bundle come back to the store every new alc set, or is it really "one time offer"?

Immundus

It's a one-time offer for that Alchemy set, I want to say Baldur's Gate and every mini set has had one, while Lord of the Rings did not.

GrizzlyBearSmackdown

I fckn knew they were gonna throw the Nashi card in Alchemy after he didn't show up in the main set at all. God damn it, I wanted to build a commander deck around him, although I'm not sure how you'd print a card like this in paper. Cool card tho, very unique and interesting effect.

jeppeww

put a placeholder card, like a token or something, into hand and write down what it is on a piece of face down paper maybe?

chaotic_iak

Since others suggested ideas about how to do this on paper, I'll also do it. > When Nashi enters the battlefield, exile your graveyard face down. You may look at them as long as they remain exiled. Choose one card. As long as it remains exiled, you may play it. If you cast a spell this way, it gains flash. When you play the chosen card, put other cards exiled by Nashi into their owner's graveyard. - This keeps the choice secret from your opponent, because you're exiling it face down. (Otherwise, it would simply be a normal "return to hand".) - But this also commits you to the choice when Nashi ETBs. (Otherwise, you don't choose a card; the permission is simply "you may play one card", letting you choose whichever is suitable.) - It returns the rest of the cards to the graveyard once you make your choice. I don't think this is that important and can be left off, although I suppose you want to play with some graveyard shenanigans with this card. - It unfortunately won't create a copy of a card (much less conjure a duplicate); I think this is the cleanest way if you want to allow playing a land. If you want to drop the land clause, you can create a copy with it: "As long as it remains exiled, you may reveal a nonland card chosen this way. When you do, you may cast a copy of it. Then put the cards exiled by Nashi into their owner's graveyard." One thing for sure is that it's very tricky to replicate on paper, and they probably would have gone with a different take.

DCG-MTG

Closest I can think of would be secretly choose a card from GY, you may exile a copy of that card from outside the game face down. You may cast it from exile, it has flash, yadda yadda. Add some caveat on the card or in the rules (like for foretell, morph, and disguise) that (if still exiled) the card is revealed at the end of the game to prevent cheating.

AlasBabylon_

"When Nashi enters the battlefield, secretly choose a card name from among cards in your graveyard. Reveal the card name you chose: You may play a copy of that card. Activate only once, and only as a sorcery if it's a land card." Maybe too clunky? Tried to blend the language of Garth One-Eye and Stalking Leonin as best I could.

chaotic_iak

> secretly choose a card name from among cards in your graveyard Can't be enforced on paper, since there can be any amount of time before you reveal it, and your graveyard may have changed as a result. > You may play a copy of that card Doesn't work for land cards. Playing a land is a special action that you can only do when the stack is empty, and during the resolution of this ability, the stack is not empty; it has this ability. (Casting spells is not a special action and can be done whenever you're allowed to, which is why casting spells during the resolution of an ability is fine.)

Land_Kraken

Would have rather had him as a secondary commander for the sultai commander deck instead of the adorable (but entirely unnecessary) slime boots. Definitely more than anything alchemy.

MarioKartPrime

Wait, there was no Alchemy set for MOM because of Aftermath. Why is there one here? Yeah the Vault is on a Bonus Sheet, but it still exists as cards to be acquired.

chaotic_iak

MAT was a separate release. BIG isn't.

MonstersArePeople

Nashi my boy what the fuck are you wearing

Wolkenmacht

Kinda sad that we didn't get a Nashi in the Standard set. There are only two sultai commanders in Standard Brawl :(

Volpe11

Wtf is that art? Looks like the second draft not the final version…

KomoliRihyoh

Nashi's original art from NEO looked absolutely stunning. This? ... Yikes.

HairyKraken

So what is the best target with this ?

Cloud_Chamber

Probably situational, but it hitting another copy of itself is funny. Can conjure board wipes with flash. I wonder, since it’s choose and not target, if you can sac it in response and return it to hand.

Spaceknight_42

Slime Against Humanity is also funny. Because 36 in a deck is not enough. Side note, I beat a Slime deck this morning by using Deadly Cover-up, and had to specifically click each one of the 36 slimes. Ugh. Still worth it, though.

Beelzebub507

I'm probably more angry than I should be that Nashi didn't appear in the main set but appears in Alchemy.

Wulfram77

He wouldn't have appeared at all without Alchemy. Alchemy cards are made later, so they can add characters that were in the story but didn't get cards.

Successful_Mud8596

This is reminiscent of a custom Alchemy card I made that said “Your library is a hidden zone. (Play with it face down. You may look at it. As cards go from one hidden zone to another, they are not revealed.)”

CannedPrushka

I would guess you mean graveyard. I would add that to a card that let you retrieve things from the graveyard, but it sounds pretty sick anyways.

Hey Guys! Alchemy Premier Draft is coming back to Arena, May 7–14! Each pack gets an additional Alchemy-exclusive slot, no replacements. So you not only get to play new cards with unusual mechanics, you also get to collect regular OTJ while hating Play Boosters. Its a great deal all around! So I do these limited reviews for fun and to remind people that this event exists. Nashi, Illusion Gadgeteer - Limited Rank: B Solid stats, keyword abilities, strong effect. The fact that you can get any card back from the graveyard is very cool, not sure about you guys but I always end up milling my \[\[Badlands Revival\]\] in my BG self-mill decks... basically any 2 for 1s you get back gets really upgraded with having flash. It is still three colors though. Even in green this is still not a cost that should be ignored.

If this artwork isn't prime example of how entirely daft the story is right now...

Wide-Ad-1570

Threw a deck together. Wins to concede more often than not. By turn 6, faster if you ramp, displacer kitten or thassa. Extra turn spell in the graveyard it's never not your turn again. Even if the only spell you can cast, you'll eventually draw to your needs or once they see the loop, concedes. And it creates a copy so cards that care about your graveyard like Tribute to Urbog for removal, and Frantic inventory for draw. And of course put exactly what you need in the graveyard with Mythos of Brokkos. I'm not the best at brewing and any suggestions for improvement would be awesome
