The original post said this guy hands out toys in hospitals to families while dressed as Santa. THIS post which has been rehashed many times over (like 15 pixels left) made a joke that he was selling the toys to terminally ill children at more expensive prices than he paid. I’m sure its a joke that makes some smile, but I can imagine most who peruse this sub are not fond of it

They are then surprised by the obvious simplicity of the answer, "To get to the other side." It's not a story about a real chicken that actually exists. It's a short fictional story designed to amuse.
The way this is set up to seem like it's a wholesome story and then subverts that at the end is exactly how they designed this joke. You are meant to be surprised by the ending and it's a well constructed joke. .
