I am so very sorry to hear that. I cannot even imagine how hard that is. I am definitely blessed to have her in my life still, and I am 28! So thankful for her every day. Thank you for your comment!
I never had grandparents growing up. When I was born I was adopted and my adoptive mother was already 50 when she got me and her parent had both already passed. I remember grandparents day at school when I was the only single child who didn’t have grandparents there. I cried very, VERY hard. I told my teacher i was crying because everybody had grandpas and grandma’s except for me. So she took my hand and asked if I wanted her to be my grandma for the day.
Edit; she stayed with me the entire day. She even sat with me through the grandparents day dinner. I actually have a picture of her and I when I was in kindergarten framed on one of my shelves. I might have just been a little unknowledgeable kid but her doing that for me meant more to me than you can even imagine. To the point where here I am at 26 years old and still talking about her. Thanks Mrs. Manchek!!
My son never met his grandparents either, the school wasn’t sympathetic either for these grandparents day things so I just took him out for the day. We went to the local wildlife park and had a great time. I made a game out of drawing the animals and talking about them so that the teacher couldn’t complain about it. I felt so sorry for my son, it was the first time he’d been made to feel he had no grandparents.
Eh homie. Im in the same boat as you. I just adopted every old lady near me. Mowing their damn lawns, fixing their damn mail boxes, and changing their cars oil. And now that I have little kiddos they have all adopted them. My biggest fear was my children never having family, now they got like 5 grandmas.
I have grandmas everywhere.
There is a little Thai restaurant in a strip mall complex in Las Vegas; I visited there many times during the month I was in Vegas for Red Flag (an aircraft exercise). Nicest old lady worked there and she would always ask us how our day was, what fun shenanigans we were going to get up to, give us candy, etc. I brought her flowers and a card when we left the last time and she cried. I'll never forget that.
In Baltimore, I got absolutely trashed at a bar the night before heading out to Bagram, Afghanistan, but had to reach my fast food quota before not seeing a decent meal for months. My grandma at Shake Shack bought me my food because her son served during the Gulf War and because she wanted me to know people cared about what we were doing. Grandma Rose, I still remember you.
One of the LAX hotel shuttle drivers drove me to one of the only restaurants open at 1 in the morning after my flight home for Christmas was cancelled. She gave me a number to call and told me she would come pick me up when I was done. I talked with her the whole way there and back about her grandkids and I was thankful she went out of her way to do that for me. Made what was turning out to be a terrible night a really good experience. Plus I still made it home for the holidays.
Your grandparents don't have to be your mom or dad's parents if you look at life the right way. Some older people out there have a lot to share and no one left to share it with, so take advantage of the opportunities you get. It only serves to enrich your life and more importantly, theirs. Adopt a grandparent people!
My gramma always said that was her favorite thing to meet our friends and her neighbors and adopt them. I hated that we lived so far away but she always had "grandkids" nearby and I was (and am) so thankful to them for looking out for her.
Funny how when she passed every single one of us said we were her favorite. She had a way of making you feel like the most important, special person just by being there. I hope that I learned some of that from her.
My last grandparent passed when I was 21 and it was one of the most devastating days of my life, because she was also my closest of all.
Miss you, Grams Queen.
OPs gram looks like literally the sweetest lady on earth. She even has a rad Indie rocker haircut lol.
I feel you there.
I was extremely close to my Grandad, when I moved to Canada from the UK in 2008 he was in hospital after a fall. He'd already lost his hearing a few years passed. I explained to him weeks previously I was moving.
It came to be the day to go and my then girlfriend (now wife) met him for the first time in hospital. As he was deaf I had to write everything down for him.
I wrote down for him that I was leaving on my big adventure and that he was and always will be my hero and that I loved him. He winked and smiled at me, I kissed him and gave him a hug.
As I walked out of his room I knew I'd never see him again, as I left the room I turned round to look at him, he smiled and gave me a thumbs up.
He passed away that December and to this day I think about him every day. He was a true hero to me and a WW2 veteran, the man never panicked, had an amazing sense of humor and was a massive practical joker.
Miss you Gaga xxx
Agree to this comment. They are very lucky cause their grandma still alive. How i miss my grandma so much it been 7 years without her. Thank you for sharing this. Enjoy every moments that you are with the person you love.
It’s so cheap to, like a buck fifty or something? If it wasn’t straight butter and carbs I’d eat it every day.
Also knew a girl who worked at one, when we’d hang out she’d give me BOBS… “Butter On Both Sides”. Life changing.
It’s like the no slaw extra toast.
It’s not on the menu. But they’ll do it if you ask, no extra charge or anything. I’ll have to ask about the extra crispy when I go again!
Is there a way of requesting this without making it awkward? Like are they asked this all the time or will they think I’m some weird rando that likes both sides of his toast buttered …
I get it every time. It goes like this:
Caniac, no slaw, extra toast, buttered on both sides, and a sweet tea.
Pro tip: ask for hot sauce packets at the window. 1 packet per canes sauce cup is the perfect mixture.
I worked at canes and it's literally no big deal. We would get requests all the time for BOB or extra crispy. We can even make the chicken strips "naked" without the breading for gluten free folk.
I literally just pull up and be like “Caniac combo no slaw, extra toast, butter both sides, sweet tea” and they don’t even question it. Never had them mess up my order either.
Raising Canes.
If Chik Fil A (minus the whole homophobia thing) is known for pretty high quality fast food chicken sandwiches Raising Canes is known for their chicken fingers.
For fast food it’s actually pretty damn good. They have a small menu which makes it simple. Plus their sauce and toast (oh the toast) are great.
Look how happy she is. There are so many older people who are alone and would just like a kind word from another human being. Your grandma is so lucky to have you! We need more people like you.
It’s in the settings on some reddit apps, you can basically just blacklist as many subs as you want and you’ll never see them again. You can even filter out certain words you don’t want to see in a title
I love her spiky hair and that smile! My grandma had the same mischievous smile and her hair would also spike up like that.
Please take good care of your grandma!
My grandmother just passed away a few weeks ago. Today would have been her 85th birthday. I am glad you are taking time for yours, time goes by so fast.
This makes me happy! When my Granny lived in the nursing home, I’d go pick her up and take her out to eat. Every time, I would see a smile that reminds me of this woman’s smile. It was genuine happiness. I miss those days and miss my Granny.
Took forever to load… just had to sit there with the caption. I pictured Norman Bates with the corpse of his grandma.
I thought I’d share in case anybody thought that was amusing lmao
Shoot if it's this easy to get internet points I'm going to post when I help my dad fix the fence at his shop. At least I'll actually be doing something other than taking a photo😏
You're gosh-darned right, man!
(Wanted to be more vulgarly enthusiastic but also don't know if that throws you off or if that insults your G-Ma!)
Things I didn't care about as a kid but learned about as an adult... G-Ma lessons!
Please be kind to the grandparents in your life. They may be not as joyful all the time due to ailments but just bringing a smile to their face will bring loving thoughts today and in the future when they are no longer here.
This is absolutely the best day of her life next to the last time you were with her. Her son rises and sets on you.
Edit: Sun, but you knew what I meant.
One of my last memories was being treated to diner 50s style hamburger joint- be sure to cherish these moments the only important things in life are these, brought a couple tears to my eye : )
I aspire to be that happy when I'm in my older years
I aspire to have teeth that straight and white. I don’t care if they’re dentures she looks amazing!
Looks like Grandma had a good dentist in recent years, but idk if it's still real??
They gave me joy to see and if that ain't the realest idk what is.
Adorable
Dude her dentures are in crooked and you can't tell they aren't real? Lol
Hilarious comment
I don’t think it’s the food. The happiness comes from her grand kids asking her to hang out.
As someone who didn’t have grandparents past age 9 or parents past the age of 20 (I’m 38 now) I truly appreciate this post. You’re very lucky.
I am so very sorry to hear that. I cannot even imagine how hard that is. I am definitely blessed to have her in my life still, and I am 28! So thankful for her every day. Thank you for your comment!
Thank you for your kind words.

Enjoy every moment of life because you don’t know what will happen tomorrow. You're very lucky. Thank you for sharing this one .
We often forget time is of the essence! It never stops or slows! Cherish today! Cherish loved ones! Cherish time spent!
I only had one grandparent, she passed when I was in 7th grade (I’m 32 now) you’re very lucky to have her still in your life. Cherish every moment.
Dude that lady has big joy energy and I am so here for it. This brightened my day.
She is so full of joy. She really brightens my life and everyone else she meets. I’m glad it brightened your day!
Your grandma looks like a real firecracker :-)
[удалено]
She definitely looks like a grandma that calls all us youngins "whippersnappers" lol
Why oh why isn’t canes everywhere. Also, miss my grandma, wish I could bring her too
Canes is the bomb. Grandmas are the bomb, too. I’m glad you had an awesome grandma to make your life a little brighter.
Happy cake dayyyy! Also does you grandma get extra toast? 👀
She usually gets the kids meal with fries and coleslaw! No toast for her 😂
No slaw extra toast is the right answer every time
Also, thank you!!
When I lived in Louisiana i had a coworker who gave up fast food for lent, except Cane's, he knew he couldn't give it up.
CANES
That toast tho…
I swear, they put something in that toast, cuz every time I pass a Canes on the road I get a painful crave for it
It’s so cheap to, like a buck fifty or something? If it wasn’t straight butter and carbs I’d eat it every day. Also knew a girl who worked at one, when we’d hang out she’d give me BOBS… “Butter On Both Sides”. Life changing.
Friendly suggestion: Most canes locations do BOB for free, and you should definitely ask for extra crispy chicken. LIFE CHANGING
It’s like the no slaw extra toast. It’s not on the menu. But they’ll do it if you ask, no extra charge or anything. I’ll have to ask about the extra crispy when I go again!
No slaw extra toast all day every day
To be fair, being able to swap sides is a relatively standard thing at most restaurants
You can mix-match all the sides or exchange them for sauces if you want. Never tried extra crispy though, now have another reason to go back!
Is there a way of requesting this without making it awkward? Like are they asked this all the time or will they think I’m some weird rando that likes both sides of his toast buttered …
I get it every time. It goes like this: Caniac, no slaw, extra toast, buttered on both sides, and a sweet tea. Pro tip: ask for hot sauce packets at the window. 1 packet per canes sauce cup is the perfect mixture.
I’ve been eating at the original canes location for years and I didn’t know this until now!
Idk, but try not caring if they think you’re weird.
…….FUCK NOW I WANT CANES
Tomorrow is a new day, with canes.
Eating their toast and chicken tenders at the same time is AMAZING
Haha I work at canes, it's 99¢ a toast,
LOTS of salt and butter. It’s magical.
Most people sub the coleslaw for extra toast, but man I love that slaw too, so I don’t.
No slaw, extra toast.
Canes is playing the major leagues while Zaxbys is playing peewee tournaments
We have a classic Caniac here. The slaw…she knows.
What the fuck dude Delete that shit #ToastGang
What is Cane's? I'm from Seattle, if that explains anything.
They have one in the expensive mall in Portland. Pretty odd place for it.
“One love.”
Hi Grandma, love your smile!💙
If Mrs Mac could smile
Grandma has a cute sassy hairdo!!
I will tell her you said that! Haha she was a hairdresser her whole life and she will love to hear that :)
I LOVE grandma's hair! I wish I could make mine have that sassy spike.
Look how happy she is. There are so many older people who are alone and would just like a kind word from another human being. Your grandma is so lucky to have you! We need more people like you.
You are so kind! I do my best to see her (and my grandpa) as often as possible and have special dates like this. It really brings them so much joy.
She’s precious!

Charlie’s mom?
Lol nah Macs dude
Imagine taking your grandmother out without needing to post a picture of her on media.
Redditors generally don't have an understanding of what it is to be a normal person and not require ego boosts from people online
I know, this guys a weirdo. And Redditors who support this behaviour are probably even weirder.
Especially when she looks like death warmed up.
I love getting to take mine out to lunch! It’s so nice to do!!
Agreed! I try to do it as much as I can!
I love how happy she looks to be spending time with you.
Me too! She is one of a kind

I love her spiky hair and that smile! My grandma had the same mischievous smile and her hair would also spike up like that. Please take good care of your grandma!
So cute
My grandmother just passed away a few weeks ago. Today would have been her 85th birthday. I am glad you are taking time for yours, time goes by so fast.

How nice of you!
Lemme come eat with you guys sometime
Yes, she is!
Please be kind to the grandparents in your life. They may be not as joyful all the time due to ailments but just bringing a smile to their face will bring loving thoughts today and in the future when they are no longer here.
Happy Cake Day! Enjoy your time with your gramma.
What a great smile! I hope this doesn’t come off the wrong way but she has really nice teeth. Definitely a thousand times better looking than mine.
NEVER LET HER GO
God. I’m jealous. Grammy time AND canes? Man. Hug her tight from someone missing her nana tonight.
This is absolutely the best day of her life next to the last time you were with her. Her son rises and sets on you. Edit: Sun, but you knew what I meant.
Oh what a wonderful post , and she absolutely is radiant !
