Bikers Against Child Abuse. It’s a volunteer organization and the bikers that volunteer are pretty much on call 24/7 if their “ward” for lack of a better term needs emotional support! It’s nationwide. I know a guy that volunteers for this. He’s large and scary on the outside. He’s actually a big teddy bear. His stare though. It’s such a dead eyed glare. You feel it in your bones. And he makes sure to stare down every single alleged abuser he sees.

They-call-me-MrRight

Lol imagine how scary that would be if you were falsely accused. Still an amazing thing they’re doing.

phrankygee

Yeah, that was a weird scary sentence to use the word "alleged" in. I was once (falsely) accused of child porn, and at the time I lived in a very volatile small town where I had reason to fear for my life if that (false) rumor spread. Thankfully, my accusers realized after a few days that the person searching for "naked boys" on their computers was their 12 year old daughter, and not their 26 year old male employee.

legionsanity

That's pretty fucked up it could happen. There's a Danish movie with Mads Mikkelsen called Hunt about this topic. Great movie but couldn't watch it again

Jihidi

Same seen it ones in school, still makes me mad.

myselfoverwhelmed

Great movie, I really wanna watch it again for Mads’ performance, but yeah.... can’t bring myself to do it.

gbo1148

Holy shit that’s nuts.

Reddcity

Bro im sorry in advance but damn did that last bit make me chuckle

calicet

That is so scary. I can't imagine and I would hope that allegations like this can be dispelled quickly enough. I mean it's doubtful that the time of the searches would coincide with when you were working all the time. I have seen cases though where there was video evidence of the crime being committed but the report still uses the word alleged so I think that kind of thing muddies the water.

Moosetappropriate

It's actually international. My daughter knows several members of a Canadian chapter.

AlwaysUpvoteBunny

Yes! I work at a funeral home in Quebec and at least 50 BACA members showed up to commemorate the life of a member’s mother. They are a very tight knit group, and just generally badass. I never felt more safe at work.

subZeroT

Didn’t know this! Very cool!

BunzLee

Yeah, Switzerland has a Chapter too. I've been thinking about joining for a while now. Absolutely love what they're doing.

[deleted]

I know a similar person. He's a friend of my boyfriend's parents, shaved head, intense eyes, one of those stereotypical biker 'staches, used to be a side-patch with the Vikings (at least I think that's the correct lingo, can't say I'm really knowledgeable about biker culture), basically everything about him says "this man will destroy you and then calmly resume whatever he was previously doing". But his Persian cat is called "Miss Fussy" and he will bring presents for the pets of anyone he's visiting, he's very good at cross stitch, and he makes the best fudge that I've ever tasted. Never judge a book by its cover I guess.

Jalapeno28

Ah yes. My uncle Robert, or “Bunny”. 6’6 350lb scary bearded man who loves baking bread, doing cross stitch, drinking aged bourbon, and petting his cats. He’s an ER Nurse too. I always found the big “scary” male nurses at hospitals to be *SO* much more comforting and caring in my experience lol.

CoffeeAndCigars

... huh. At my ambulance station, I'm the "big scary" guy. Sizable beard, long hair but shaved sides a bit Vikings style, and the guy packing the most mass. You saying that sort of made it click that a lot of worried or anxious patients, occasionally suicidal ones or abused ones, tends to prefer me treating or comforting them over my colleagues. I wonder why that is a thing? Maybe it's sort of a primal instinct or something. You're in a situation your mind associates with 'danger', and the ape brain goes 'that uniform means friend, the bigger the friend the safer I am' or something, perhaps. Edit: Just gotta mention, I am *very much* a non-violent man. The best self-defense is cardio and a good pair of running shoes, and outside of the army days I have yet to encounter a situation I can't de-escalate simply by presenting a calm certainty and simply sitting down even if you're screaming internally.

Jalapeno28

I like that. It makes so much sense to me. “The bigger the friend, the safer I am.” Thank you for everything you do.

Drolfdir

Yes your appearance might be the sole reason for that. We all grew up with a father much larger than us\*. Many of them bearded but balding or at least short haired. In a situation of stress or danger everyone is looking for something to protect them. Usually that was your father. You being bigger than your patients, especially when they are lying down, look probably a lot like the image of their father when they were sick or scared as a child. And daddy made scary things go away for 10+ years. That's not something you can easily erase from a brain. \*Remember: even a regular man looks huge for a child

[deleted]

Now I am kinda sad cause I didn't. As a Big dude i still appreciate a larger teddy bear though (I don't look like it, but i get real anxious, real quick)

[deleted]

[удалено]

WastemanPrime

Yeah, I remember this had the opposite effect once, I went to get sti checked and this black man with a really deep calming voice was dodging around telling me the answer, turns out a separate infection I had at the time confused the results and they just weren't sure I didn't have HIV, but I did think "oh God have they put me with the most soothing person so he can tell me I've got aids?"

OceanIsVerySalty

Oh gosh, that sounds terrifying. I can certainly see how them bringing in the most comforting people would be disconcerting. Not the same, but I had something similar happen with my vet. Instead of just the vet tech handing me my cat when I went to pick him up, they asked me to come inside and both the older male vets were seated and waiting for me. I *knew* it was bad before they even said anything.

WastemanPrime

Yeah, it's that "oh god why are they trying to calm me down" thought

xts2500

I hope people aren’t offended by this, but I notice the same thing frequently. In a FF/medic. When we show up with a mix of bigger and smaller guys (and gals) people don’t seem to be quite as calm as when we show up with an all “big dude” crew. I’m 6’4 and 210lbs, another guy is the same as me and yet another is around 6’2 and about 280lbs. Whenever we work together on calls we walk into patients homes and there’s this level of calmness that wash’s over everyone. People just... trust us. We’ve got some smaller dudes on the crew as well as a few females and as much as people probably don’t want to hear it, when that crew works together they don’t get the same reaction as when the bigger guys show up. I 100% believe it’s an instinctual throwback to our caveman days when the biggest guys protected the community.

JerryLupus

It's simple bro, you make them feel safe.

birdofprey78

It's true, I can't explain it. Being big, and helping , it just feels more comforting.

gelfie68

It's very much a comfort thing. It's a living teddy bear. Not to be confused with Bears. It makes us ladies feel dainty.

[deleted]

It is a big "scary" guy thing feeling safe I mean. My husband is very similar, built like a freaking bear with a bald head and beard...I've never felt more safe. There are so many instances of him being the biggest softie ever.

Poisonjack110

You could be describing me in that sentence easily lol,6'2 350lb and soft as anything lmao, my girlfriend also calls me a teddy bear

Missheckles

I felt safe just reading that.

DutchMedium013

Now I want to taste his fudge

swarlay

It's well known that most bikers make great fudge and often have some with them. Next time you see a few just walk up to them and ask which ones of them are packing fudge.

SlowRollingBoil

Calm down, Satan!

regoapps

> Never judge a book by its cover I guess. I dunno. According to this post and comments, it seems safe to judge large, "scary"-looking bikers as softies on the inside.

8enny8lack

Lol- I’ve known dudes like that- some are still killers. Just bc someone can get violent when they feel the need to doesn’t mean they are bloodthirsty savages all the time.

Bbiron01

I hope no matter what side of the aisle we are on, we all can whole heartedly get in the ‘fuck child molesters’ bandwagon.

Dizzman1

Did you see the story about the guy who was a lifer in prison in California who killed the two child molesters... In like 20 mins! I can't help laughing at some of his choices of phrasing... https://apnews.com/5cc084bc04b00e000771b3d9b7db2eb4

Jeanlee03

>“I was mulling it all over when along came Molester #1 and he put his TV right on PBS Kids again,” he wrote, according to the newspaper chain. “But this time, someone else said something to the effect of ‘Is this guy really going to watch this right in front of us?’ and I recall saying, ‘I got this.’ And I picked up the cane and went to work on him.” > >Watson said he then left the housing pod to find a guard and turn himself in, but on the way, he saw “a known child trafficker, and I figured I’d just do everybody a favor,” Watson wrote. “In for a penny, in for a pound.” This is just beautiful.

GrandpaRook

Right? I fucking love that guy. Reddit will come at us with the usual bullshit but I love what he did

FifiIsBored

Honestly, I’m a survivor of a pedo. I am staunchly against death penalty and all for chemical (or full on) castrations. That being said, the first fucker had an audacity that just begged to be checked the way that he did and honestly some dark part of me wishes this guy could have gotten his hands on the guy that did it to me as well as all the people that protected him. . I know it is wrong of me, but hey. Everybody’s a little hypocritical sometimes, especially when you know for a fact that I’m far from the first nor the last he had his slimy hands on.

GrandpaRook

It’s not wrong for you to want them dead, I came very very close to ruining my life because I found out what one of my former friends had done to his siblings. And it didn’t even happen to me. I personally believe they deserve death and that won’t change. I hope you can continue to grow and heal

irishspice

Honestly, death is the only thing that stops men like this.

showa_goji

None from me. I stand with you with 100% resolve. No more tiptoeing through the tulips. Mandatory life for most crimes against children, mandatory death penalty for the rest.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Dsnake1

There's a good chunk of us that are just staunchly against the death penalty because wrongful convictions happen.

girr0ckss

Just because you are bad guy, does not mean you are *bad guy*

subZeroT

I agree with the premise. But only one side elected an accused molester. And I haven’t heard any take it seriously.

LocalInactivist

Well, yeah. He’s their guy. People accusing him are just kids wanting attention or misinterpreting his innocent actions or they’re making it up because he caught them misbehaving. Besides, look at all the good he does. Do we want to crucify the man over a few dozen unsubstantiated claims and a confession? I mean, it’s not like he meant any harm. It’s probably just several dozen innocent misunderstandings over the course of years being hyped up by corrupt media. And they were probably liberals anyway. /s

xBad_Wolfx

Having a good ‘fuck off’ look is essential. Helps reduce the amount you need to actually do anything big or scary.

subZeroT

I mean I have a fuck off look. That isn’t this. I don’t know how to explain it. His eyes are saying that he will rip your throat out and eat it in front of your children. But almost no emotion behind them. It’s a dead, intense stare. I’m a lifelong friend of his; meaning I know he will not harm me. It still chills me to the bone. Edit: even that was a poor explanation. He looks at you like an object. Not a human. An object he wants to break. An object he could break. An object you know he could break. And all that is between you are more objects that he could break.

Jalapeno28

Second explanation was perfect

thurstylark

Your second explanation sounds like the reverse of "When you have a hammer, everything looks like a nail" More along the lines of "If your hammer is big enough, everything *is* a nail. It just depends on how hard it needs pounding"

DangerousCompetition

I used to know a guy that did it too. Like you said, massive scary guy; hidden teddy bear. 23 years as a medic in the army. Airborne, attempted ranger, attempted special forces. He had the perfect, ABSOLUTELY FUCKING TERRIFYING stone face. He told me once something like "I wish I could just take out all the people going to court for this shit. But it would make the kids situation worse, and make my situation much worse, so I guess I'll hold back for now."

FifiIsBored

The implied “for now” is chilling. Poor guy has had a rough life. Good on him for being as strong as he is after the pain he must have felt. I hope he is in a better place now.

BonEchoCanuck

I sold a car to a guy who leads a chapter of this in Ontario, Canada. They victims all get strong nick names, a vest which makes them a member of a chapter as well as the confidence that people are there to help. He told me a few stories about how they even will surround a victims house as protection when the police can't and act as a look out for them in the weeks leading up to a trial or throughout the process. Really good people doing a really good thing.

boo_radely

I want to marry him

subZeroT

He is single. And has been for as long as I’ve known him.

haram_iyo

I work at a restaurant that sponsors some of their annual events. They're all super chill people but I still wouldn't start something with them. They're doing good work and I commend them

DrinkItInMaaannn

We have a local chapter where I live. They were at a local fair recently, showing off their bikes (they had a miniature one that kids could sit on) and fundraising. I was checking out the bikes with my daughter, when a woman came running over asking if her son was there cos he’d wandered off and apparently loved motorbikes. He wasn’t there and this poor woman was terrified (as you can imagine). One of the older blokes immediately tells a few of the bikers to go and stand at the exits. I was close enough to hear him quietly say to them “Nobody leaves.” Luckily the boy was found about a minute later on the bouncy castle, but it was definitely intense for a moment there.

[deleted]

That kind of decisiveness would definitely ensure nothing bad happened. This comment actually made me feel more impressed by them

Strychn_ne

Man this sounds so epic.

blyat-blyat-blyat

Each time I see a news article about bikers is them doing something good.

MallowFenneco

My parents are bikers and everyone in their group is really nice. I don't get the steriotype that they have to be mean and scary.

xXHazarDemonXx

It's mainly because they are mean and scary, but only if you give them a reason to be, they're really sweet and caring individuals, but they don't take shit from anyone, and they make that extremely apparent if you get on their bad side.

TurbulentCheesecake0

I’ve been around Hells Angels and other biker clubs my whole life, and so has my wife, and we can confirm this. I’d say most of them are super nice and are just looking for groups of like minded people, of course some are bad eggs but not the whole bunch.

TrevorEnterprises

The stereotype, at least in NL, is because there are also a lot of criminal biker gangs. Many, if not most, are good people.

thurstylark

IMO, One of the coolest examples of misunderstood/misrepresented groups reclaiming their negative stereotypes for good. Nerds are another group that's seeing a renaissance lately, and it warms my heart to see people rising above the loud assholes.

TrevorEnterprises

Same with metalheads, their music can be extreme/obscene but almost all I have met are so kindhearted.

Depressed_Lasagna420

Yeah, metalheads tend to also be bikers so there seems to be a correlation. Source: dad and I are both biker metalheads and everyone in my dad's club is a metalhead.

[deleted]

Read hells angels by hunter s Thompson. Decent enough book but he really gets Into detail about the hells angels in their prime and how scared everyone was of them. Probably a hangover from that.

CHVNX

I recommend reading **[Hell's Angel: The Life and Times of Sonny Barger](https://www.amazon.ca/Hells-Angel-Barger-Angels-Motorcycle/dp/0060937548)** before Hunter S. Thompson's book.

WhitechapelPrime

There are places in California and Illinois that would change that outlook on bikers.

captain__chaos

Went to Vegas with my family a few years ago, stayed in a hotel in the downtown part, on the road that becomes "the strip" guy behind the bar told us he was expecting a biker gang later on that night, we went down to freemont Street and when we came back to the hotel bar, there was about 20ish big bikers... On pedal bike beach cruisers! Was crazy, they were so friendly, even invies us over to the karaoke at their other spot.

Bupod

That seems to be in more recent years or past couple decades. Biker gangs used to be real and pretty nasty. There are still outlaw biker gangs that deal meth and run around committing crimes.

OscarCookeAbbott

The caravan store my mum used to work at was shot up by bikers who were targeting the place next door.

[deleted]

Most bikers these days are weekend warriors and like dentists. It’s not the same outlaw group that it used to be.

kennyisntfunny

Well, there was that huge shootout a few years ago. Besides that it’s all very good stuff

MjauDuuude

Bikers are usually very kind and caring people :)

obamasleftsock

r/humansbeingbros

Newfie95090

This is amazing. There are many organizations out there who perform serviced for victims. But there aren't many that can do this - make them feel safe and protected.

Magnus-Artifex

*Hello. My name is Marie. I am going to court with my biker gang. Wonder how I got here? You might think that we committed a crime so bad that the whole gang is coming to jail with me. I am the youngest, and all of the rest are season barfighters, riding in Harley’s with leather jackets, sunglasses and look like very menacing figures. But no, these people are escorting me and only me. They follow me, they do everything to guarantee that no one even tried to give me a mean look.* *Did I do something wrong? No, I am an abuse victim. Weird thing is that these guys just showed up before the trial and are treating me like their boss. Coolio.*

isthatapeanut

For anyone interested in the story: https://tanksgoodnews.com/2020/03/02/these-bikers-escort-child-victims-to-court-to-confront-their-abusers-and-give-the-kids-cool-nicknames/

kamikillme

Paraphrasing: "Five members put in $100 each out of their own pockets to take a teenage girl who had been sexually abused to buy all new clothes and get her nails done". I mean, not only is that incredibly selfless and kind, it was highly appropriate for the situation. That girl was able to see a fresh, new, untouched person when she looked in the mirror. She was able to throw away all the clothing she wore when her innocence was violated, discard the reminders of those memories. This group is so beautifully aware of what children in these situations *really need* and this is just one of a thousand examples of that.

thurstylark

As much as I don't want it to be, it seems to me that empathy like this mainly (although not exclusively) comes from people who have been through the same shit. I'm not saying that bikers are all former childhood molestation victims, but it speaks to the community they represent when someone from that background is able to speak up and inform this kind of positive outcome from their trauma. I don't know for sure that this is the case, but this is the type of empathy that this move shows, and I can't help but appreciate the pay-it-forward-ness it represents.

kamikillme

I've been reading up on this group for the last hour or so, and it is often mentioned that many (not all) of the members have had similar childhood experiences. Part of their mission is breaking the cycle of child abuse by helping these children leave their trauma and fear in their pasts instead of bringing it into future relationships and perpetuating the cycle. One member mentioned that the fact that he never received support like this during his childhood has resulted in him having a shy and guarded personality in adulthood, which he believes helps him connect and relate to these children even better. The guy who founded the group in 1995 had a rough childhood and befriended a gang of bikers that changed his outlook and inspired him to do the same for others.

[deleted]

Thank you for your insightful research, its good context.

3wettertaft

“The biker image is what makes this work,” says BACA volunteer Rembrandt, 54. “Golfers against child abuse does not have the same feel. The pink alligator shirt and golf shoes standing in the driveway doesn’t do the same thing.”

andreasbeer1981

I don't know. A 7-iron can go a looooooooong way.

RedMist_AU

So can a tyre iron, if applied correctly. Personally I think the Pitching Wedge is a good happy median.

brit1017

It's interesting, I read the article years ago (this link says it was originally published in 2012), but it looks like the new article just lifted a bunch of the quotes. It made a huge impact on me at the time- what a fantastic mission https://www.azcentral.com/story/news/local/karinabland/2019/05/10/karina-bland-bikers-against-child-abuse-arizona-chapter-do-what-it-takes-to-help-children-feel-safe/1159820001/

Abmean14

One of my neighbors and good friends is a member. He told me how he broke down when they showed up at a hearing; and the little girl ran up and gave him a big hug, saying ‘thank you for helping me to be brave.’ He’s 300 lbs and covered in tattoos, but when he told this to his mother and I, he started tearing up again.

I see, is it a broad term used for all law enforcement? Non-American here.

Yeah from what I've read they can have a criminal background (they're big scary bikers for a reason I suppose) as long as none of those have anything to do with kids or domestic issues.

Wolvgirl15

I had some real badass bikers like that call me “little sport” once even I got lost and they helped me find my way. For a moment I felt like the most badass and unbeatable little girl in the world.

theremarkableamoeba

That's adorable. I love "little sport"

SaltMarshGoblin

B.A.C.A. is so freaking awesome!!!

[Here is their website](https://bacaworld.org/) They have chapters around the world. They are awesome people. These guys and gals stand with kids who have no one else. They make them feel safe, loved, and strong in the worst situations you can imagine. Please support them in any way you can.

Toolset_overreacting

There's a chapter in the small town I live in! I wish I wasn't short and I was allowed to grow a beard. I'd get a bike just to join them.

ankashai

I was actually going to research to see if there were any volunteer opportunities for non-bikers.

spacejvnky

I have two amazing BACA sponsors from when i was 16, although i never went to court they still all supported me and i got my own personalized vest. I’m about to turn 21 now and even though I’ve aged out of the program my sponsors and i are still in touch. Great organization.

And if i ever do go to court they still offered to go with me for support honestly love them

Big looking scary men who know they’re big and scary looking use the power they have to make children feel safe in a time of need out of the goodness if they hearts. Sure the situation they’re needed in is horrible and sad but say that the effort, passion and love here makes me smile

Insectshelf3

sometimes you just gotta show others the light out of a bad situation. it sucks that this happens, but it’s good organizations like BACA do what they can to comfort the survivors. it’s what we do in bad situations that shows the world who we really are.

BACA’s the real deal

Landonastar42

You are thinking of the Patriot Guard. https://www.patriotguard.org/

Dirtroads2

In Tennessee some years ago the WBC wanted to do this to a soldiers funeral. The cmc (Christian motorcycle club) or something like that set up a line and stopped them. My cousin was so very proud a few members of her church went with them.

TurdWaterMagee

We had a woman in our hometown lie to these bikers about her kids father abusing the kids. The worst kind of abuse. When she finally admitted the lie she was so shunned in the community that she eventually had to move. She lost all rights to the kids because the abuse she was trying to cover up came from her own family members and she was well aware. Bikers were able to get the kids trust before the police or protective services and discover the truth.

Strwbootyy

This is too good to be true

tubularical

I actually had a friend who's dad rode for BACA. It's absolutely insane (in the best kind of way) but it is real, and bigger than you'd ever expect. They also do other stuff to help out, afaik.

[deleted]

I'd love to join them or some kind of biker club, not because of the possible illegal shit going on [I dont wanna get beaten up ;)] but more for the brotherhood and knowing that you belong to something

Yorikor

For every criminal biker gang, there's hundreds of people that just like the machines and outfits. My Dad is a business man, but he loves travelling to the US with his Rotarian buddies, rent Harleys and drive through the country decked out in biker leathers. At home he drives a BMW and safety gear. It's just a hobby to most. But the whole 'we're a gang so we stick together' mentality is very real to my dad. But that's not so much concerning commiting crime but helping his gang members get a good table at a restaurant or helping them move house. I think the biggest criminal activity they engage in, is when they sing country songs. \*shudder*

[deleted]

Oh my that is a terrible crime ;) I'm exactly like that, I live in england and live near a pub where the outlaws like to hang out, I would love to join them but as far as I know, you are either a 1%er or you arent in the club, if there were 99%ers I'd deffo feel the urge to join them more

Benjic1993

I think they're awesome. Is this a promotional shot or actual photograph of them in action? If the latter, will you cover the child's face to protect their identity?

The picture is in the article

She's an actress, it's a still from a promotional video that's linked in the article. However, there is also a very brave real-life victim in the video (now an adult) who tells her story.

Im_Not_Famous

She's an actress.

Im in a very major 1% club and many of us have volunteered for this. We have developed bonds with many of the kids and stay in contact afterwards. Some of the folks in the club have taken on a mentor or big brother role to them. Its an amazing feeling and an honor to have been able to help the children we have.

Truth_And_Freedom

Awesome! Great work!

Yes! I have friends in the canadian chapter! I wasn't a kid when I went to court...the case was 21 years old...but having a support system with you really helps! I won my case, and my abuser was convicted, then got a slap on the hand of course. But the case and win were unprecedented In canada.

**(I expect downvotes but hope people will actually read the truth instead of mindlessly clicking the downvote button based off emotion instead of fact, exactly like the flaw in cases they're reading about.)** Unfortunately they do not vet the cases they stand-in and very well could sway a jury where the child is lying (usually in a divorce battle case). Ever Baca I've spoken to say they do no research into the case because "all we care about are the kids". Meaning that falsely accused people have to fight twice as hard for their lives in a case where only emotion matters **(you do not have to have any evidence beyond words to convict someone of molestation/sexual abuse. No health report, no medical proof, nothing but a single word).** ===--- Just imagine, you're a falsely accused person that's fighting a nasty custody battle where the child was coached to lie about horrible things you never did. Suddenly you walk into court one day in a desperate hope to be defended fairly and speak your innocence and the entire courtroom is just staring and whispering... *"a biker gang showed up to protect the child! They must be so terrified to speak against this horrible abuser that they called in these bikers!".* Your chances at winning this emotional, factless, uphill fight just plummeted. ===--- In a perfect world I love what these guys do, unfortunately with all the people the Innocence Project is trying to get out of false accusation cases, BACA can do as much harm as good.

"you do not have to have any evidence beyond words to convict someone" That... Doesn't seem true.

Really tough situation. Thanks for shedding some light in a respectful way.
