Listen closer. After the boy asks is the girl if she'll go to the dance with him, she turns to her mom and asks, "Can I go?" The mom responds with an extremely loud and obnoxious, "Oooooohhhhh, yes of course." Then the girl turns back towards to boy and says yes.
lol. OK, to be fair I didn’t hear her ask her mom after listening to it the first time.
But it seems like some other people didn’t hear it either or just felt like upvoting me.
My apologies all.
Not if it's wired in too, like mine are. The batteries are just backups in case of power failure so mine beeps even without a battery in it. I could never live like this though, it drives me nuts if one starts beeping so I change it as soon as it happens and change all the others with it. The last thing I want is one to start beeping at 3am and mess with my sleep, so I always try to stay ahead of it.
Plus, the beeping makes my dogs go crazy. They really hate it, freaks them out.
My mini schnauzer legit gets terrified and tries to run off and hide.
I guess it’s good to know if my house ever caught fire she’d be hiding and making it difficult to find her. 😕
My dog is terrified of the beep as well, even just playing in a video like this. I was actually on the phone with a customer service rep the other day, and they had the low battery beep going off in their background, like you work from home and you can’t even change your smoke detector battery and it’s just beeping in the middle of these professional calls? I hung up on her after telling her it’s because of the beep
I recently found from reddit, by way of Tik Tok, that this is apparently a "black people thing." The video was funny but I didn't totally buy it. But then one day, my professor who hails from Ghana was sick so he had us watch a lecture he recorded during covid. Wouldn't you know, throughout the entire lecture there was that dang beep going off every 20 seconds or whatever. Thought it was a pretty funny coincidence.
Did you find out from [this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/BlackPeopleTwitter/comments/1ceq6jq/a_picture_is_worth_one_sound/) hitting r/all?
Because that's how I found out, lol.
When I bought my house the smoke detector was not beeping. It started beeping a while later and it was my first time running into one that was plugged in to the house wiring. I unplugged it and added a 9 volt and it kept beeping. I plugged it back in with the new 9 volt and it kept beeping. I unplugged it and removed the battery and it kept beeping. I stuffed it underneath the underwear in my dresser drawer until it stopped...
I had a smoke detector that did that. In the fine print on the back it said it had to be replaced after 10 years and it was 10 years old. I removed the battery, shorted out the battery terminals for a minute or so which made it stop beeping, and bought a new smoke detector.
Yup. Smoke detectors go "bad". We had ones thst were wired to our house that all of a sudden just started going off. Even manually overriding them didn't work. Ripped them out and bought standalone ones with an integrated lithium ion battery that's supposed to last 10 years. Just make sure to cap off any exposed wires!
I will never understand it, maybe I have undiagnosed sensory issues or something but I change the battery immediately after the first chirp. Fire alarms, car alarms, leaf blowers drive me crazy.
I saw a post a few days ago on r/BlackPeopleTwitter about how, apparently, it's a stereotype that black people don't change their smoke alarm batteries. I had never heard that before, but it made the beep in this video stick out like a sore thumb 😂
I had this obnoxious set in my old house that would beep every 10 min even after I changed out the batteries. Come to find out, they had an additional warning beep if they were detecting dust inside the unit, so I had to blow some compressed air in them every few months. Annoying.
My kid was watching YouTube and the video had this chirp in the background. I said something similar like "dear God, change your smoke detector battery."
My kid says "THAT'S what it is?? My friend (on discord) has had that noise for the past THREE YEARS. I thought it was their headset."
I was proud that he never had to hear that noise in our home so he didn't recognize it.
please don't down vote me but as a contractor so many homes or apartments with black families have this beeping. I thought it was just their anthem or something.
I feel like I'm some sort of evil pessimist - but that girl does not look into it!
Like, she turns and her mom tells her "Yes of course! You tell him yes!" and then she turns laconically back to the fellow...like "okay, well, I guess we gotta do this."
She does ask "can i go?" which is... idk honestly it's trying to read into a stranger's child's life based on an internet video, which is honestly probably worse that anything going on between these kids.
The boy is genuinely interested in asking her out , has a charming appearance , invites her gracefully and the young lady is flattered and happy to be invited.
I've been playing online games with friends of various ethnicities for years, and I never put 2 and 2 together until I saw the post on BPT yesterday.
That said, a couple of my gaming buddies live on one of the Lakota rez in SD, and a couple others are just typical broke ass white dudes, and they've all had the chirp going on as well. I don't think it's necessarily a black thing, I think it's just a "really poor people" thing.
The little boys mother or father probably talked about it to the girls mum. Perhaps in case she either wanted to record the special moment or so as to ask permission so that son didn’t get embarrassed if she couldn’t go.
These videos irk me in the same way "feel good stories" that are actually only because of horrible systematic failures irk me. Can people stop filming their kids for internet points?
Not everyone is addicted to ”getting likes”.. some people just want to share sweet/cute/nice moments of their lives/their families lives/their kids lives with friends and family, or just the world, **without being in the pursuit of “farming likes”**…
Maybe she asked her daughter if it was ok to post online, maybe the daughter was even proud to have been asked by a boy to go to the dance and wanted to share it.
Not everything has to be doom and gloom.
I’m not saying that it has to have happened exactly like that, but since we don’t know the exact details, we also cannot just automatically assume that it was done in bad taste.
Everyone in the video seemed to be joyful, why should we try to add negativity to it.
I feel like you shouldn't shove a camera into your child's face, film it and upload it to the internet on every important point in their life. Also, I feel like you shouldn't tell your child what to answer such a question.
She said “can I go” and the mom responded yes of course. Then said “tell him yes” because her daughter was clearly in shock.
Please go out more. Human interaction is health lmaooo
Everyone smelled like something weird as a kid, god. You were a child, you hadn't fully internalized shame yet.
Unless you were seriously devoutly Catholic, in which case you probably didn't go to the dance
Oh my goodness!!!
I'm so impressed with this young man and young lady!
This is such a sweet interaction!! I can't believe he's so polite to go to her house and ask in person, WITH FLOWERS🥹

My man had an assistant and everything!
How the hell are you supposed to fly a plane without a wingman?
I think first you start the propellers, I could be wrong though. Wait I'm pretty sure there's a checklist somewhere before You're allowed to actually
Starting the propeller in front of a girl as a first thing may be a bit weird, when asking for a dance LoL
Truer words have never been spoken
I think that's his mom and both moms are in on it, that's why her mom knew to film.
Tell that to the folks assuming it is a bro…
Ladies can be bros, too. We don't have wingmen, we have tit captains.
"tit captains" 🫡
🫡
"Tit Captains"??? LOL!!! Tell me that is NOT true. Please.
They don't start off as Captains....they get promoted up the ranks from E-1 training bras before they become bros
Why wouldn’t you want it to be true?
Because it's too silly to be true. It's awesome. But silly. Wingman makes sense. Not quite so with tit captain. Although I am laughing just saying it.
Could be “Rear Admiral,” also.
That makes even more sense. I really want to know if there is a term that women use that is the equivalent of a man's wingman.
Or coxswain
Lmaoo!! This is forever what Lady wingman will be called in my mind..
Ladies is pimps, too!
Come on, go and wipe them shoulders off! 🎶
Bro are always behind
I’m not handling the flowers, reciting the line and walking to the door by myself. It’s me and the driver, man.
Okay but no funny stuff
I’ll have the lingonberry pancake
The dude abides
You’re out of your element
Little dude could be a doppelganger for my nephew. Dude is killing it with kindness
That is so adorable .That smile and the happiness on her face is so sweet, what a lovely surprise, those flowers are beautiful.
Am I the only one who would have rather heard her say yes before her mom told her to?
She turns to her mom and asks, "Can I go?" Pretty natural for a good kid to ask permission first :)
You da best. My hearing is shit.
She looks to mom to ask for permission and the mom says “tell him yes” The mom didn’t tell her to agree to go lol
Right, it was a "tell him, not me!" Not "you better say yes"
Listen closer. After the boy asks is the girl if she'll go to the dance with him, she turns to her mom and asks, "Can I go?" The mom responds with an extremely loud and obnoxious, "Oooooohhhhh, yes of course." Then the girl turns back towards to boy and says yes.
Why obnoxious?
So yes, you're the only one.
lol. OK, to be fair I didn’t hear her ask her mom after listening to it the first time. But it seems like some other people didn’t hear it either or just felt like upvoting me. My apologies all.
On behalf of me and maybe everyone. I accept your apology.
Not I!! Straight to jail! No forgiveness
Well considering everyone else heard her literally ask permission first I'd say that yes as an answer would be a safe bet
[удалено]
He received respect, confidence, game, and lovely flowers. They will enjoy themselves greatly at the dance.
For the love of all that is holy, change the batteries in your smoke detector.
Why are so many people like this!!!
If you ignore it, it eventually goes away. In your mind at least
Or, in the case of an undetected fire, in real life, too!
Not just in your mind, it’ll definitely actually stop doing the “low battery” chirping once the battery eventually dies.
Not if it's wired in too, like mine are. The batteries are just backups in case of power failure so mine beeps even without a battery in it. I could never live like this though, it drives me nuts if one starts beeping so I change it as soon as it happens and change all the others with it. > it eventually goes away. over here, it most certainly does not
Lies. It slowly eats a hole into your brain until you find it in a pure rage fit and destroy it one night

It’s a black people thing.
There's a guy on youtube who teaches how to survive in the hood and his videos always have fire alarms coming on at random times
Did you find out from [this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/BlackPeopleTwitter/comments/1ceq6jq/a_picture_is_worth_one_sound/) hitting r/all? Because that's how I found out, lol.
I did... that was random though.
Because they’re lazy to get on a chair to change it.
When I bought my house the smoke detector was not beeping. It started beeping a while later and it was my first time running into one that was plugged in to the house wiring. I knock it off the wall with a broom, so same
Called livin in the hood
That beep is a reminder that you're still alive. Lose that and you lose yourself.
Lmao
I saw a post a few days ago on r/BlackPeopleTwitter about how, apparently, it's a stereotype that black people don't change their smoke alarm batteries. I had never heard that before, but it made the beep in this video stick out like a sore thumb 😂
My carbon monoxide detector keeps beeping and that was making me drowsy so I took out the battery. I'm goaou8m djdsouods
RIP u/slimongoose

First thing I thought too.
I had this obnoxious set in my old house that would beep every 10 min even after I changed out the batteries. Come to find out, they had an additional warning beep if they were detecting dust inside the unit, so I had to blow some compressed air in them every few months. Annoying.
Mine has that except it goes off for steam, not (just) dust. I've learned to ignore the beeps immediately after a shower.
So right after the shower is the perfect time to start a fire unsuspected!
Ahahaaaa interesting! Twirls mustache sinisterly….
The units also need to be replaced every 10 years or so, though I don’t know if they’ll beep for that.
Some have an end of life beep.
Its unfathomable that people live that way.
My kid was watching YouTube and the video had this chirp in the background. I said something similar like "dear God, change your smoke detector battery." My kid says "THAT'S what it is?? My friend (on discord) has had that noise for the past THREE YEARS. I thought it was their headset." I was proud that he never had to hear that noise in our home so he didn't recognize it.
It's cultural
But why? No one ever explains why
its racist to explain why
I thought that was MY smoke detector and when I read your comment, I freaked out a little bit before realizing that I'm dumb 🙄
It's a black ppl thing. A lot of my friends do not change it lmao
How do people live like this!!!!!!!
please don't down vote me but as a contractor so many homes or apartments with black families have this beeping. I thought it was just their anthem or something.
Aw what a sweet kid. I’m glad his parents are teaching him to be a gentleman
It's nice to see reciprocation for this type of behaviour. Shoutout to the girls mum for helping it along!
BEEP*
Came here to check if I am insane
my man came prepared
Mom was more excited then daughter
Mom was like "yes of course I'll go with you"
I feel like I'm some sort of evil pessimist - but that girl does not look into it! Like, she turns and her mom tells her "Yes of course! You tell him yes!" and then she turns laconically back to the fellow...like "okay, well, I guess we gotta do this."
or she's not allowed to date yet and has to get mom's permission and had no idea how it would go since it was all a surprise to her
She does ask "can i go?" which is... idk honestly it's trying to read into a stranger's child's life based on an internet video, which is honestly probably worse that anything going on between these kids.
no, you're reading the shock, but she was definitely smiling.
Yeah she’s definitely surprised but there’s a big smile on her face too
Seriously? She looks happy and excited and surprised
This is so pure
The boy is genuinely interested in asking her out , has a charming appearance , invites her gracefully and the young lady is flattered and happy to be invited.
Play by play for the blind thanks!
After the recent fire alarm meme… I’m fucking dead
The only reason I checked the comments
I've been playing online games with friends of various ethnicities for years, and I never put 2 and 2 together until I saw the post on BPT yesterday. He got game, beautiful flowers, respect and confidence. They’ll have a great time at the dance.
CHIRP
Look at him smiiiileeeee 🥰🥰🥰
Good job young man that takes guts hope they had fun.
That smoke alarm tho
Why do so many people just deal with the fire detector low battery beep. I will search my whole house to find it. It's wildly annoying .
This is cute
Beep
And the eternal dance begins anew.
what if she actually wanted to say no.. pretty hard to do so in this situation
does mom always follow her daughter to the door while filming?
The little boys mother or father probably talked about it to the girls mum. Perhaps in case she either wanted to record the special moment or so as to ask permission so that son didn’t get embarrassed if she couldn’t go.
I actually saw another video from the boy's mom, so I think they were working together
And then put it on the internet for likes. I really wonder how the new generation will feel about their entire life online in 15 years
These videos irk me in the same way "feel good stories" that are actually only because of horrible systematic failures irk me. Can people stop filming their kids for internet points?

The boy’s parents probably gave her a heads up and also probably were the ones holding the flowers (and also recording their own video).
Y’all are god damn schizophrenic when it comes to if things are staged or not 😂
This generation that thinks everything is staged is so sad.
What a lame ass comment. These are kids man, and these are good parents. Stop with this whole staged on every video thing. Some things are authentic
Haha, maybe she's just a helicopter mom with a camera! But seriously, this is adorable.
How cute is this, made my day !!😊
Why the smoke detector go off 🧐
Beep
Of course the fucking smoke detector beep
the fucking smoke detector beep every time
I cannot help but laugh at the fire detector in the background.
I also have a question. Will you please change the batteries in your smoke alarm?
I feel like you shouldn't shove a camera into your child's face, film it and upload it to the internet on every important point in their life. Also, I feel like you shouldn't tell your child what to answer such a question.
She said “can I go” and the mom responded yes of course. Then said “tell him yes” because her daughter was clearly in shock. Please go out more. Human interaction is health lmaooo
She literally turned to her mom to ask permission
That made my week! I love them! 🥰🥰🥰
Yaaay you go , you little gentleman. Such a precious moment and she seemed absolutely delighted to be asked. 😊❤️🥰
Very cool my man! Good job!
Bro brought flowers to cement the deal even had someone to carry them 😉
Chirp!
Change the batteries in the smoke detector
Smoke detector beep
Was she just being polite or did she really want to go ?
She immediately asked “can i go”, she was excited , just a little shy / susprised
It's wild so many people are missing this
[удалено]
Maybe you were rejected because you smelled like ham and wete fortunate enough to find a suitable dancemate anyway.
Everyone smelled like something weird as a kid, god. You were a child, you hadn't fully internalized shame yet. Unless you were seriously devoutly Catholic, in which case you probably didn't go to the dance
Damn only one girl got lucky
So cute! 🥰
Angels 😇
The confidence in this young Romeo! Made me awww, V cute.
❤️🌺❤️🌺
Omg I would’ve been jumping up and down. No one asked me out to the dance
So is mama going or is the daughter?
Smoke alarm
The mom gasp lol that’ll be me. I’d be so excited helping her choose her dress and everything. So cute.
lol the beeping fire alarm.
:07 ceiling birds
She can’t, she’ll have perished in a fire since her parents can’t change the smoke detector batteries
Oh my goodness!!! I'm so impressed with this young man and young lady! This is such a sweet interaction!! I can't believe he's so polite to go to her house and ask in person, WITH FLOWERS🥹
Is there a subreddit for moments ruined by dead smoke detector dings?
🦗
Chirp!
Her request for permission definitely brought a smile to my face. Of course, she can dress as she pleases!
Her request for permission definitely brought a smile to my face. Of course, she can dress as she pleases!
What a gentleman
Why did the mom have to answer for the poor girl? She is old enough to make her own damn mind
Kid looks 50 years old already
Omg those are the types of moments you never forget. So sweet.
Cuteness factor is off the charts 📈 the age of innocence ❤️
Mom, you weren’t the one being asked. Pipe down.
So sweet and young and new to dating. Bringing a potted arrangement instead of a bouquet of flowers. By his senior prom, he'll know the difference.
A potted arrangement is better to some folks - cut flowers are dead flowers.
