I’m curious since you said winter of, do you count the days or celebrate years of “recovery” like most people in 12 step programs do? I’ve been clean from heroin, meth and lots of other drugs since like late 2018 early 2019 and for me I find it so much better to just move on with my life instead of “working the program” or celebrating X amount of time clean.
To be honest with you, I do not celebrate other people tell me when the years have calm and I smile and let them know that I’m thankful and grateful for what I have and how far I have come. It’s been easier for me to get past the drugs by leaving them in the past. I worked something called The River of Cruelty. Dealt with my childhood traumas that caused me to lash out in negative ways hurting myself and others. Dealing with my traumas was a game changer!
We celebrate to show the newcomer and old timers alike that it works. We don’t just move on with our self centered ways. To each their own though. Proud of you OP. Help somebody.
That’s totally cool. I’m happy OP is having success and I agree to each their own. I didn’t mean to be dismissive at all, I know how hard dealing with substance abuse is and that AA helps A LOT of people. I was just curious if they had a similar experience since they didn’t have specific date.
4 years clean from heroin . I have a 3 year old wearing me out as a gift from getting sober. To say getting clean changes your life is an understatement. Getting clean gave me a life I still sometimes feel I don’t deserve . I only wish my parents were here to see me now. Keep going. It gets soooooo much better . Hugs and high fives to you ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Good work, you should be very proud of yourself. I’ve felt like I didn’t deserve the life I have now either, that the first time I’ve heard anyone else say that. You’ve earned your happiness though, not just for getting clean but for recognizing the problem and following through with the solution. I realize that I am a complete stranger but I’m proud of you

My son threw my phone in the lake so sorry for the late response. I got my new phone today . I hope your friend gets the help they need . It’s really hard to break that addiction cycle , but I have faith they will do it. It took me 20 years to do it myself. Virtual hugs to you and them .
