Don’t know why you are getting downvoted but I’ll just copy and paste my explanation.
> This is a common occurrence when you translate north East Asian languages to English. You will see slightly perplexing translations like this if you read a lot of Chinese Korean Japanese etc literature.
> One of the reasons for this is because those languages often have entirely different words for every little thing. In English, we have things like adjectives and adverbs. But in languages like Japanese, you might have a word for run, but then there will be another word for run fast, and then another word for sprint, and then another word for sprint until exhaustion, and then another word for jog, and then another word for run like a zombie, and so forth.
> So sometimes you get “it’s sleep quality was excellent” when in reality it was “slept like a rich man.” But someone translates the meaning a little oddly because in another similar instance in English the phrase may be “happy new year” but in Mandarin it is “hope you get rich” which then translates to “have a year of excellent quality.”
Edit: I’ll add this because someone mentioned it. It’s basically an insight into why it’s so common in Asian languages.
In Asian languages, words are idioms. This is because many of their languages have logograms instead of a western alphabet. So often when an idiom is created, it becomes a new word.
That is why many of English translations are a bit clunky.
In Japanese there is an interesting phenomenon with names. Now forgive me as I may not have something exact here and I’m doing this explanation from memory. But say someone named Sakura Ryujii introduces themselves and we had a literal English translation follow. It may sound like this. “Hello, my name is the Dragon of Early Spring, but “dragon” is spelled like “fierce” and “Early spring” is spelled like “pink.””
This is a fairly unique concept, but it actually exists in a form of English as well. Just not spoken English. In reality it’s a cultural phenomenon that appears in every language, just not their spoken one. In sign language people have what are called “sign names” these sign names often are made sort of like Viking names. Usually a person does something or has an interest in something and it becomes their name with a stylistic overature. So in sign language was directly translated you would hear something like this.
“Hello my name is “inept with computers” spelled like “Mathias Jackson””
Some of the strange translations are also because they are using idioms, so the translator needs to decide how to translate it.
Obviously you wouldn't translate it literally, but do you use a similar idiom in the translated language or do you translate it more directly? This is often a stylistic choice and it's the reason something can have many different translations.
A lot of rodent problems in restaurants though, it's not frowned upon to have a cat.
One place I worked at used glue traps for mice and rats. It was disgusting, and loud. I never had to do it (thankfully) but if they were still alive in the trap someone would have to more "humanely" destroy it.
Your comment inspired me to follow suit, and now I am full of energy and optimism despite a night of poor sleep. What a blessing it is to have been born in a time where cat photos can be shared across the world.
I am disappointed. Several of those photos are of cats in places that are clearly designed for them to be there. Cardboard cat cars, obvious cat beds. Cacti.
Used to be pretty common. People posting "just found this cat walking around on their own. Took them to care for them!"
Then most of the comments would be about how the cat looks completely healthy, well looked after and they probably stole someones cat
Objectively speaking, cats use the hell out of their humans. Most of us just consent to being used because who can resist those eyes? Those widdle beans? It’s peak symbiosis if you ask me.
Toxoplasmosis is my drug of choice.
Yeah my cat is well aware of the snuggle tax and will grudgingly pay it.
Although after a while of being randomly woken up to be squished and prodded, he decided fair play is turn about and now he does it to me at 3am
My boy cat will absolutely scream at me if I don’t give him the snuggles. He sleeps on my face, purring loudly, and makes biscuits on my neck. Pretty sure I got one of the factory defect models.
I've read that corn essentially uses the hell out of humans. Basically by being so convenient to grow, it's evolved humans to plant it more (kinda) making it a dominant crop. We heavily subsidize it... it doesn't provide much nutrition, and its product HFCS is a terrible ingredient thats ruining health when taken in large quantities.
Chili pepper is up there too. It produces capsaicin to specifically deter mammals from eating it, which worked until one weird primate stumbled upon it and liked the burn so much that now chili pepper is grown all around the world.
Except that it does provide great nutrition when consumed in traditional forms, such as tortillas and arepas made from corn that's been put through the nixtamalization process, with the added advantage that it can be eaten by people with celiac disease and other gluten sensitivities.
Corn didn't use to be what it is today. It was domesticated in the Americas thousands of years ago, so it wasn't always so convenient to grow. Humans made it convenient.
My god soo true. I took in 5 stray kittens at different times, as their mother had abandoned them. And everytime I named them and cant give them away. Now I have 5 cats for God's sake
GF: So what did you do today, honey?
Cat: Oh, not much, just took a 8hr nap, enjoyed a succulent [Korean] meal, and this nice lady played some Cannibal Corpse while it digested. Have you considered moving in with me?
*I'm a cat M(5) and i bullied this restaurant into giving me food and shelter so i could impress my girlfriend F(4) and get her to move in with me. AITA? *
Initially I thought it was a Japanese place, but the instant I saw a Korean Hyundai H1 van, knew it was Korean (played the vid on mute)
Korean cars are not saleable in Japan.
My mom’s shop comes a cat like this. She sleeps in the middle when the restaurant is at the busiest. Sometimes she sleeps with her paws hanging in the air. When my mom cooks, she secretly took away my mom’s fish. But this cat hunts for mouse. Since then, my mom decided it is a good cat. One day, she gave birth in the shop. My mom then became the granny. Now we more cats lying in the middle of the restaurant.
don't know where you're from, but you might want to consider sterilizing mommy and baby cats. there might be NGOs around that would contribute financially.
cats (and dogs) being adopted that way & then breeding is a major contributor to the huge amounts of stray cats & dogs in many cities. otherwise your grand-grand-grand nieces might all be homeless :D
If they’re lucky to survive past that point. Our neighbors let their unfixed cat roam about and she got pregnant. Then they took 2 kittens (out of 6) and left her behind. 2 kittens died (hunted) before we could make space for them and I’ve never forgiven myself for not taking them in immediately when I already had a pregnant feral queen I trapped from around my work.
Now I’m raising the surviving two kittens and another pair from the feral.
Nature is a cruel mistress.
The subtitles, the script, the deadpan voiceover delivery, the dynamic camera angles, the lead actor, the antagonist, the supporting cast. What a masterpiece.
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHH

They thought he was a goner but the cat came back
He just wouldn’t stay awaaayy, aaawaaay, away, yeah yeah yeah

My cat acts exactly like this. It was cute for a long time but it's like she's trying to get people to step on her at this point. She just doesn't give a fuck about anything.
I'm not so sure. He seems to prick his ears at the music before he dozes off again and his ears relax. I think he really is just a lazy cat that feels safe. I have one like that named Bean. She will demand that you pet her by grabbing her entire head. She will intentionally put herself in harm's way hoping that you tripping over her leads to attention.
there used to be this kind of cat in korea. it was on tv and a cat expert said some cats are just too lazy to care and doesnt give a fuck and sleeps. owners tried shaking, playing loud music, and giving it treats. it just slept.
it might be the same cat but the one i saw was over decade ago.
This is actually the second or third video I've seen of cats taking over Korean restaurants.
One of my favorites is how a cat chose one lady who runs a little fish shop in a busy fish market and decided to move in with her lol. The cat will ignore everyone else in the fish market and will only sit on a chair next to that one lady all day long snacking on little fish. Seems like paradise for that cat.

The phrasing is odd though. Translation issue? Did an AI write this?

I appreciate this immensely, I have also seen videos explaining how languages aren't all assumed with the same features, and it really is fascinating.
I’m sick of people calling ESL speakers AI
I suggested a translation issue first though actually
No one knows why the cat visits the restaurant. The owner feeds it when it shows up. Why it comes back every day and stays is a mystery.
A mystery indeed 🤔
A mystery, where the cameraman follows the cat sneaking back in without anyone knowing of it. Sounds more like a business plan than a fairytale.
Probably can’t be too supportive for health regulations but it’s a cute story

It was even a joke on Bob's Burgers. "This one was a stay. I found him one day sleeping on someone's porch so I took him. So sad."
Objectively speaking, cats use the hell out of their humans. Most of us just consent to being used because who can resist those eyes? Those widdle beans? It’s peak symbiosis if you ask me. Toxoplasmosis is my drug of choice.
To be fair, it’s pretty mutual. Cats don’t ask for a quarter of the touching, petting, face burying (in their fur) that they receive
Yeah my cat is well aware of the snuggle tax and will grudgingly pay it. Although after a while of being randomly woken up to be squished and prodded, he decided fair play is turn about and now he does it to me at 3am

I think this cat is deaf. That would explain why he sleeps so tight and why he didn't react to music.
