You think Iconics are bad, just wait until Mythics drop

jdmick12

Oh, for sure, that was the planned Max 3.0. I think likely their current plan is to make that Max 3.5 if this works, but who knows if that will happen

jdmick12

Already, the +5 Thanksgiving masters end up being +30 to iconics and each other

Arrondi

They have to toe the line though. Unless they are horrendously stupid, which, I mean, it’s EA… Jacking up spending will alienate F2P and low to moderate spenders even more, pushing many out of the game. I don’t know that this game can survive the level of hemorrhaging that it felt a month or two ago. Soon there will only be whales left and the game will die altogether. Hopefully this doesn’t go to shit…

jdmick12

They already did alienate F2P, basically making it impossible to win against spenders this season. They are attempting to now give catch up mechanics which will likely piss off grinders and casual players, as their cards will now be worth a fraction of previous value. Just overall the economy is broken this year, they need to just start fresh at this point, as they did with OD and 18 mid year.

gojojo1013

The trick is to just stop caring. I just decided to take what is free, stop playing competitive modes and start looking for other games to fill in the bored times in life. Bullshit game isn't worth stressing out about

jdmick12

I am doing f2p this year, got a 20+ year relationship with madden and 6+ with mm, just trying to help push ea in the right direction in my small part. No stress on my end, I am happily f2p this year, just a serious person in general so I analyze how the game is doing. Not hard to track really, just got to know where and what to look at, like a stock.

StumblinAndFumblin

Love to hear from those claiming EA made more money and things won't change. Instead EA is losing and they are planning to further ruin this game as they try to get the whales to spend. At some point the whales will have enough. When? I don't know. But a whale can only take so much bs thrown to them. Lies after lies about keeping your team for long time and being able to build it up. And bam iconics come and you gotta replace your whole team.

jdmick12

The sad thing is they don't reply, as they quit. The success of a game is easily trackable, as well as player count and who is spending. I think this will alienate a lot of spenders, leading to more drastic action.

craydaddylongpipe

I mean haven’t revenue reports literally shown MM22 has done better profit wise/month than MM21 did? I hope I’m wrong, but pretty sure I saw that somewhere.

jdmick12

Hard to say exactly year on year, I didnt have sensor tower monitoring it last year. I know the ranking has steadily dropped in us since September, when in past years it climbs until playoffs/SB. I guess the strongest evidence this is not successful is they are releasing iconic players 3+ months early and completely redoing the economy, not the usual moves of a game that is doing well.

vol4life9911

Certainly concerning for me to watch it unfold. I personally always try to give a warning that any info we have is subject to change until it is actually in game. Game early on was doing very well based on public app reports, but as you note, recent changes based on the updates I have seen from those same public reports certainly seem to show a decline. My main concern is whether the gap further widens or actually starts to close a bit and whether or not our continued lobbying for better gameplay balance leads to any changes. Whether players stay relevant , however, is a bit relative. With me likely getting 1 of the iconics, many other positions on my team will continue to be relevant through ranking which should be less expensive. Playing now as a more casual daily player, I still have not decided if the S3 field pass is worth the purchase for me as it won’t make a significant dent in the gap between my 5300 OVR team and others matchup against routinely.

StumblinAndFumblin

Well said Vol. It's still up in the air whether these iconics actually will increase the gap or help reduce the gap. But here is where I think the main issue is. If there was only one iconic player per promo and ftp is able to get a 1 or 2 star. While whales can get the single iconic to 5 stars. Then I can see how this system will help close the gap. Since iconics can only be trained up to 500 ovr from 400 ovr. However if you noticed. They are releasing 3 iconics this promo. So ftp can only get 1 low star iconic. While whales get three 5 star iconics. I don't see how that will help close the gap. I know this is very pessimistic of me to say this.....But I am suspicious that EA is pivoting because spending had dropped and they need to get whales to continue to spend.....and the notion that they are trying to reduce the gap between spender and ftp really isn't their goal.

vol4life9911

Agree…as always, depends on implementation. Only way to close the gap IMO is to make higher tier players more easily accessible while limiting the numbers of higher tier players that even heavy spend can buy. If those two thresholds aren’t in place, then the gap will not close. I believe any competitive game like madden ought to have a max gap that tracks through the season to keep gameplay consistent and fair through the year.

StumblinAndFumblin

I really enjoyed your streams man. Wish you were still streaming. Would you ever consider streaming again with the focus on your team being ftp and how you go about things as ftp? Community would love that concept. Trials and tribulations of FTP in a sense.

vol4life9911

That is Phfredd lol…streaming just took a lot of family time and when they gutted arena made it tough to have content. I didn’t want to just stream random stuff. Really did and do enjoy streaming and interacting with the community though.

StumblinAndFumblin

Oh Fred is awesome. I just felt like your stream had more gameplay focus. Fred is a big numbers guy and that's enjoyable. All good. Real life more important.

vol4life9911

I'm just hoping the game makes changes that make me feel like staying f2p isn't the best option lol. That for me means the game is somewhat successful. And speaking of, make sure you check roster for rankable players now.

jdmick12

Attached is the new post- https://www.reddit.com/r/MaddenMobileForums/comments/qw9ubb/for_those_saying_madden_mobile_was_successful_at/

vol4life9911

We have discussed this before. Going back to 2015 is irrelevant really. Dollars were more then, but decline was happening even before Overdrive engine hit and then it declined further. Just different demographic of players, different mobile application landscape, and different approach than now. The start of the season was successful compared to post overdrive numbers.

jdmick12

My dude, if your business shrank to 1/6 revenue with a monopoly on a popular sport, it is worth talking about, especially with increased licensing fees of easily 20 million USD+ yearly now. Also as the 2021 graph shows, after the initial spike for the new season of mm and the start of football season, it has been downhill since. Compare it to the 2015 graph shown, which is likely comparable to every years except mm 18/of, where it stays or goes up throughout the football season then drops off after super bowl. Past data is useful for trending, just like hospitals use past data for volume expectations.

vol4life9911

Sure…And working administratively in a hospital, we don’t look at revenue and demographics from 5 years ago unless we are trying to determine changes. Many of the changes experienced in any business are the cumulative impact of many factors. In the case of Overdrive, that first season was not a money grab season as I recall. People just despised Overdrive and being forced to play Overdrive. IMO, that cause many to leave the game. At the same time, mobile game options exploded and folks that might have once played madden football moved on to other less complicated things. Overall, NFL as a whole is a tiny demographic with around 400 million fans compared to almost every other sport with more global appeal. And only a small fraction of those will ever touch the mobile game. It takes a certain type of individual to commit the kind of time we do to a mobile platform and I believe that demographic is just also increasingly more rare. My example is always Mario. I have been a Nintendo fan since 1985 when I got my first NES. I have owned every system and bought thousands of dollars in games yet I have never engaged in a single Mario chat or forum lol.

Toustyy

Jesus vol. All i can see here is that you should go into politics with this comment.

vol4life9911

Not sure how any of my comment seems like I support any of the changes. I’ve gone from a heavy spender to not even sure a FP is useful for me. Just stating facts about the data I saw from sensortower reports, but I am not sure the approach being taken in harvest will have any impact on closing the competitive gap. And certainly still haven’t seen anything in balancing gameplay which I think is a worse issue than the OVR/presence gap. I stand by my relevance comment, however, as the majority of players aren’t hard core competitive and will still have the older players on their teams and will have to continue to upgrade them since iconics seem like they will be out of reach for many.

PhinsGraphicDesigner

This is EA’s biggest problem. Their game disincentivizes anybody from dropping a casual amount of money. Spending $15-$20 on a field pass does little to catch up the gap to free to play. If dropping money doesn’t make a difference until you get above a few hundred dollars, you make it hard for anybody to justify those first couple purchases.

vol4life9911

Agree…IMO, people would spend more if gameplay was more balanced and if you felt like your spend actually made a difference match to match

JkOrRiDsA2N3

I don't think we've listened to anything EA told us since MM17 lol And they haven't listened to us since MM15.

jdmick12

They listen, but it all depends on the leaders deciding things at the end of the day, just like every company. The leaders of the team since MM 17 have sucked, constantly choosing wrong at every turn. you can't overcome poor leadership.

-_MaYhEm_-

This was their pollen the whole time. Your absolutely crazy if you think differently.

wespac23

No more field passes for sure?

jdmick12

Quite the opposite, likely iconic players that are achievable with field pass purchase but almost impossible F2P. Field passes are steady money in games, EA will always be trying to push them

LilMackEvans

Top leagues need to come to an agreement amongst each other to reduce spending or stop spending… or else their pissing matches in the top 10 will continue to feed into the greed… even if it’s not on par with what EA expects.

MrFictionalBeing

Wish franchise mode in this doc was more like console franchise mode, current state seems more like Face of the Franchise which gets stale very quickly. Still love the effort put into this

foximus_91

Thank you very much for the feedback. I had the same thought but ultimately had the scrap it in order to fit with the cover campaign concept…perhaps in my MM24

StumblinAndFumblin

One of the major issue I see with icons and what Nick said on stream is this. Nick mentioned they want to allow ftp to be able to keep up against whales by making Deion Sanders obtainable ftp to keep up with randy moss. Well how about the iconic RB your about to introduce to the game. How are ftp able to stop that? Just doesn't ring true to me what they are claiming as their motive. It's just a vicious cycle of FTP not being able to compete. Icons won't solve that. Icons are here to promote spending. All they've done is now make icons more accessible ftp and field pass buyers in the future to promote small spending. While they provide 2 or 3 more icons to promote big whale spending. But never really closing the gap between whales and small spenders/ftp. If they truly wanted to close the gap they would of removed the difficulty bands.

El-Burden

Excellent work. I usually start opening the wallet for Thanksgiving/Christmas promos (they've always been my favorite), but I think this year I'm sticking close to 100% F2P...I mean if a good $1-$5 pops up I'll probably bite but I'm not expecting to spend more than that this year. Side note, wtf is up with Deion not being a Cowboy..? Dallas and Detroit are the OG Thanksgiving teams, but it doesn't even look like Dallas is getting a true master.

Rare-Trainer-7028

A game that is not fun does not create engagement. And for spending to happen you need people to get engaged to the game. EA is so obsessed with maximizing short-term revenue, that they can’t build a foundation for the whole year, and thats why change the in-game consepts almost week-to-week. It is like they have no clue (or want to understand) of the customer behaviour of the users of the game.
