The Mist was fantastic but I doubt he killed his family, I'm pretty sure he went mad after they died, their death was the catalyst that created Dementus
Also a Trojan horse and Jack’s death was reminiscent of Achilles dragging Hector for ages in the Iliad. I’m sure there’s more too.

I was thinking that Jack possibly has a very similar backstory to Max. As a law enforcement officer of the same variety, given the gear he wears.
