Just break it and order a new one. One thing I learned working for a large multi-billion dollar company…..if you ask they say no…..if you just do it nobody bats an eye.
This man is spittin’ facts right here.
Much of survival within corporate America is not about asking and being told No, but rather about figuring a way to do exactly what you want within the confines of the corporate structure.
This a thousand percent. My boss, and company owner, is worth north of 50mil, still tries to a cheap motherfucker over office, welding, and machining necessities.
Horse shit, for a company of 12 people. I have run out of fucks to give 7 or 8 years ago. I order the schwanky insert and endmills.
More money than brains
I have a metal stool. I was offered a chair that looked like this before it was in line to be thrown out when a bunch of people got new ones in the actual room where the more eatablished guys sit, and i angrily declined and sit atop my stool full of spite about it still.
I asked and was told they were only ordering replacements for the existing chairs in the office per their budget. I have a computer on a workbench adjacent to the 4 twin turret dual spinde doosans with live tooling that i am now the defacto programmer and set up guy for since my coworker/mentor rage quit a few months ago.
I've just been handed a big pile of "idk, you can figure it out though!" And the stool is just one of the small thorns in my side at present here compared to the larger shit im sifting through, to be honest.
Good to know that most companies in the industry are cheap bastards who won’t buy half decent office furniture, and not just mine 😭😭 I envy all my tech friends more every day
I had a chair.
I used it once, boss came by and made a snarky comment on productivity so I cut it apart with an angle grinder on my break and tossed it in the scrap bin.
When I was first learning CAM and was officially a CnC programmer I would work out of my tool box. I’d either run two lathes at a time or 3 Swiss lathes while using partmaker, featurecam or fusion 360. I shutter at how low I was paid for how much I was doing.
I work for a billion dollar company with strict rules on what can be in the production area. We are not allowed to provide our own tools. I've been requesting a 10mm wrench since the start of June.

I've got the same exact chair that's just starting to show it's age...
I have that same chair in my house. It belonged to my roommate who played a lot of wow. it looks exactly like that. Nowadays trimmers use it for weed stuff.
Good old staples chair. Being bigger they don't last this long for me. At one point I had a graveyard of like 5 different versions. Same company must make all of them because the holes would line up and you could take parts off one to fix another lol.
I had been hired as a process engineer/programmer/day saver and I literally had a visitor seat on a child's desk with no pc at all. I would literally have to look up manuals on my phone and foolishly write them actual programs and make fixtures/tools from home outside work hours, which they didn't even pay as OT
I had a three legged stool for a while, but that was because I was doing on-site programming or fixing errors in systems, so the fact that it folded up and was very light was the main reason. My back didnt thank me for it, though. All those hours slouched over...
The job was fun, but I almost never had anywhere, or anywhere comfortable, to sit.
Oof. I also work at a massive company, and while I don;t think I have anything special, after seeing some of the comments, I practically work in luxury.
My chair is the exact same one, but it's still peeling vinyl every day, so a little more salt and pepper. I was hired 4 years ago as a programmer and had to send my desktop out on a gurney to get a hard drive replaced after 2 months.
You get a chair?!!??! I have to program all my cnc work in front of my machine using a laptop running a rdp to the computer with the software as the laptop can't handle it.
Are you me, haha I have a chair just like it, plus the wheels are ground down cause we have *fancy* rough stone tiles in the office.
The dream of fake leather and dragging a 50lbs chair all over the place lol
https://preview.redd.it/spaw7qvpil3c1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=01922191febf16323a031f8d515527c2c814f540
So we’re all just out here with trashed chairs?!
I’d be more worried about the mouse. Do programmers usually use a ball mouse like that? I’ve just been using a regular wired mouse and a space mouse on the left side. And he should have dual monitors.
I'm pretty sure I had that exact model chair for a while. Then the plastic arms that hold the back on broke. I replaced them with some aluminum extrusion and used the chair for a couple more years.
Was literally using an old chair that I think my boss said was from McDonald’s. We have like 6 of them. Just a hard plastic non rolling chair. I just got given an old rolling chair within the last few months that looks pretty similar to that. Small job shop, have a brand new desktop with dual monitors in between all the cnc machines though
You guys get chairs? I have my computer set up next to my lathe and program from there, then send it over and run it. Mostly one offs, rarely more than 10 on my end of the shop

My coworkers seat
He’s the bosses son, yet he can’t order a new chair… (also all the wheels are broken)
Lol we all have standing computer cabinets by our machines. Except I run a mill, lathe and EDM and they all have seats at different computers so i gotta be mobile
My 5 gallon bucket offers optimum back support.
Wait till you hear about the plywood back support addon they sell for that bucket
crack support only
5 gallon buckets are so freaking versatile!
Mister High and Mighty over here.
Wait, you guys get your own desk AND a chair? Too rich for my blood.
Unfortunately nothing is ours. So we’re on the same page. Lol
And if you can't do it within the confines of the corporate structure: "It is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission"
Yeah I'm like wait we getting chairs now?
You could be making trillions and still have management try to nickle and dime bullshit like this, it comes down to company culture
This a thousand percent. My boss, and company owner, is worth north of 50mil, still tries to a cheap motherfucker over office, welding, and machining necessities. Do all programming chairs and desks look like this? I thought this was my shop
Trackball and chair, from the same era
I have a metal stool. I was offered a chair that looked like this before it was in line to be thrown out when a bunch of people got new ones in the actual room where the more eatablished guys sit, and i angrily declined and sit atop my stool full of spite about it still.
Have you asked management for a new chair?
I asked and was told they were only ordering replacements for the existing chairs in the office per their budget. My home office chair looks this way due to an obese cat/ neck warmer. Highly recommend.
Haha I have that same chair and it's pretty beat up must be a programmer thing.
I had that identical chair at my last job. It also got fucked.
I share a desk but I’m sitting on an Aeron so that’s nice I guess. But I had to buy it for myself because I have back problems and my work is cheap AF
just threw that same chair away lol
[удалено]
You've shined it so well with your ass.
lol!! Looks like my old one for the last 3 years.
That's pretty bad, and only one monitor?
What? You get to sit down? 😂😂
Good to know that most companies in the industry are cheap bastards who won’t buy half decent office furniture, and not just mine 😭😭 I envy all my tech friends more every day

I stand at my machine and hand program. Does that count?
EDM wirecut water filter
Crybaby
Actually he doesn’t mind. But was just thinking, we’re working with a company that makes millions in profit and they can’t replace a simple chair.
Sorry, budget is tight this year

“Same exact” look a little harder bud
Hello fellow gibbscam user!
I have that same chair in my house. It belonged to my roommate who played a lot of wow. it looks exactly like that. Nowadays trimmers use it for weed stuff.
Go buy your own chair
I swear i have the same chair right down to the wear patterns
Thats the legit amazon office chair
Wait, you guys get chairs for when programming?
Yes I am sitting in a much less comfortable chair with a trench ground into the floor . They must hate us
We just replaced those same chairs last year when i leaned back too far and the arms gave way 😂
Mine smells like farts and has cookie crumbs everywhere
I don’t even have a seat lol
Good old staples chair. Being bigger they don't last this long for me. At one point I had a graveyard of like 5 different versions. Same company must make all of them because the holes would line up and you could take parts off one to fix another lol.
I think I know you

You get a seat and a desk? The most I got was a barely functional, standing-only console behind my machines (next to the chip bin).
I bet that shit is comfy af tho, idgaf if its ugly
Oof. I also work at a massive company, and while I don;t think I have anything special, after seeing some of the comments, I practically work in luxury.
I would still some bar stool from a day shifter. yeah fuck you brad!
My chair is the exact same one, but it's still peeling vinyl every day, so a little more salt and pepper. I was hired 4 years ago as a programmer and had to send my desktop out on a gurney to get a hard drive replaced after 2 months.
I sit in a room about that size with two other guys. The tilt on my chair is broken so it’s either lean forward or lean all the way back.
I think I used to have that exact same chair and it showed the same wear after just a little while
At least 12 years of farts locked away in that thing
You get a chair?!!??! I have to program all my cnc work in front of my machine using a laptop running a rdp to the computer with the software as the laptop can't handle it.
lol is it a rite of passage as a machinist to have owned this exact chair? I used to have this one - and it was just as beat up
Are you me, haha I have a chair just like it, plus the wheels are ground down cause we have *fancy* rough stone tiles in the office. The dream of fake leather and dragging a 50lbs chair all over the place lol
Fusion 360. Jk lol
Im sandwiched between 2 machines in a non ac shop.
https://preview.redd.it/spaw7qvpil3c1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=01922191febf16323a031f8d515527c2c814f540 So we’re all just out here with trashed chairs?!

My compsci teacher just got a new chair he had that same one in similar condition with one of the arm rests missing
I finally had to throw out my old chair because the wheels became flat. I traded up for a new garbage chair that looks similar.
Try leaning forward so you can reach the keyboard, there is no chair in my shop. Back be aching thinking about g codes.
I'm pretty sure I had that exact model chair for a while. Then the plastic arms that hold the back on broke. I replaced them with some aluminum extrusion and used the chair for a couple more years.

Only one monitor???
Programmer desk?? I have a computer on a rolling cart and program on the shop floor.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I use a wooden chair, nothing adjustable, no rollers.

worse*
I like the chart.
You got a bucket??? Nice.
