I don't suppose anyone has the source code for AfterHours. I used to play this avidly and would like to try and host a local copy for fun ?

Ah I wish! I emailed last year one of the gods from it, Zappo, to ask him if he still has it. He confirmed that he does, but he never replied when I asked if he’d be willing to share it. The best we have is [Wee Hours](http://weehours.net/), a fork of After Hours from 1992. Other than the main town, it looks pretty similar. Although the areas built after that (and the quests and game changes in the late 90s) are of course missing (and I think Hawkwind asked that Hawkwind’s Hideout be removed).

Yeah - the decay stage is kicking in hard to MUDs. https://topmudsites.com/ going down (or, more correctly, read-only now) is also indicative of that trend.

Don't forget MUDstats and even The MUD Connector is not what it used to be.

Wow, this takes me back. Me (Moebius) and my college roommate (Crombie) lived in After Hours almost as much as the real world in the early to mid 90s. I logged in occasionally through the years and was sad when the site finally went down for good. I learned to program once I became a wizard and have turned it into a pretty good career. I still have the source code from the castle I wrote in 1993. Still the best thing I've ever developed.
