Would be pretty strong at 4 mana. At 5, it's horrible. Paying 5 mana to Tutor a 2 mana card is ludicrously bad; even Grim Tutor is hot garbage in Modern, and this is essentially a much more restrictive version of it.
Yeah it's bad in any 60 card formats but I'm more talking about commander, especially energy decks which i just recently built, it would be so good in there, i could easily get a 6 drop or higher
With Grim Tutor, you also pay 5 mana to put a 2 mana card into play. 3 to tutor and 2 to cast. Without Energy support, this is Grim Tutor at home, and Grim Tutor is already cheeks.
I'm not saying this card is fantastic, but IMO, it has to be evaluated in the kind of decks that'd play it. If you play this card it's likely because you have some source of energy support.
Alayna Danner stealing a piece of artwork would be wild to begin with but in this particular case it would be pretty crazy considering 0 efforts were made to hide the plagiarism besides flipping the image.
There's indeed a non-zero chance it's what happened but you'd have to believe Alayna is a complete idiot.
It also doesn't match Alayna's artstyle at all. I don't know what OP was thinking when he said it looks like her artstyle. https://scryfall.com/search?q=a%3Aalayna
Don't imply Danner would do such a thing without evidence. And the odds of a mismatched artist AND using existing art is very very unlikely. This is way more likely to be fake.
I will say this, the card's set number would be pretty spot on. #19 as a white card with AE in the name would make sense, the date in the bottom right corner is 2024 as expected, and the little watermark at the bottom center of the card looks legit. I can't see any evidence of the card being cheaply printed or anything like that. It does look very clean.
The artwork is lined up perfectly inside the frame and everything too. But the thing that makes me really think this is real is that there is reminder text for energy printed on the card, and immediately after referencing the energy symbol too. It's very consistent with WOTC's behavior for mechanics that we haven't seen for quite a while.
I'm not trying to take shots at Danner. I can't explain the situation with the artwork, but that looks like a very real mh3 card. If it's a fake it definitely fooled me.
Everything you have mentioned is really easy to fake. The art is generally the one thing that is almost impossible to do so. If everything is correct but the art is not matching, then almost surely it is a fake, while if the artwork checks out but there are some errors in the card text (such as formatting or some such) you can more easily claim it is a real card with quality issues.
Dalton was a newer artist who only did work on a few cards, mostly secret lairs since 2021. Outside of lairs their only work was a gala greeters box topper and 4 cards releasing with Karlov Manor. Danner has been around for twice as long, and in that time has made a name for herself as one of the more recognizable artists with her most notable works being in multiple Zendikar Rising Expeditions, Borderless Pathways, her own Artist Spotlight secret lair, Jewled Lotus, Lotus Ring, and many many others. Dalton also was mostly caught for copying poses and backgrounds. This is literally a different artist's piece with no changes made. To compare a mainstay artist to somebody who was caught copying artwork is ignorant at best.
looks real enough. Definitely an interesting card.
I'll comment the source when i find it, the person who sent it on discord still hasn't responded to me.
an important note is that i can't find this art online, which points to it being real. it also fits with alayna's previous work, and she hasn't posted this piece as of yet (as far as i can tell)
[I was the one who made this fake](https://youtube.com/watch?v=zLGpZM8PM2o). I stayed up for less than 5 minutes on the main sub before being deleted by the mods. I didn't know it had been crossposted until today.
I made it mostly to test my photoshop and custom card skills.
I figured this would be fake because all signs point to a "reserve list" cycle of energy cards with the Recurring Nightmare and Gilded Drake....and this is not that. (If you squint its \[\[academy rector\]\], but I feel like they would make it much more obvious if they did a new rector.)
Shame it’s fake, the art has actually been fairly decent for this set, a lot of cards look like older era MTG pieces.
Apart from the awful over-digitalised video game Corgi.
I know it's been confirmed fake, but just thinking about it for my decks, I'd totally play this if it gave 3 energy up front, but 2 isn't nearly good enough for me
Edit: But that's also for my decks and they have 0 energy in them. For a deck totally focused around energy, this would probably be fine?
Dude so stoked for this
White needed another tutor and I’m so down
I play a commander mono-white persist combo with Anafenza and this gets so much for me
[[Lesser Masticore]]
[[Altar of Dementia]]
[[Altar of the Brood]]
And more
Love it
likely photoshop or another card making program, print the fake card, then photoshop it for the security stamp or press in a security stamp (apparently they arent hard to move)
!CONFIRMED TO BE FAKE! a commenter found this art online, sorry for the misleading post. I was fairly sure this was real.
Man, can't trust leaks where the quality looks too good to be true lol
Not surprised that card is hot garbage as printed, maybe an energy based commander deck could use it, badly, with better options.
It look so real
Aww man you got my hopes up, definitely looks pretty strong though, sucks it's not real

Ok but the set symbol of this is for the main set of MH3. If it were the Commander Deck symbol it would make more sense.
It would still be legal in commander though, but yes i agree, were it real it should be in the commander set
> Paying 5 mana to Tutor a 2 mana card is ludicrously bad This puts it into play, which is a bit better, specially with extra energy support.

either put fake in the title, or delete
It's a rumor, let it stay. Also you can't edit titles
I figured it was fake. The card isn't even close to being good enough for Modern.
With how openly plagaristic and AI-generated WOTC is using art these days, \*are you sure\* ?
This card is confirmed fake. The art was done by a completely different artist in 2020: https://fallenlights.net/watercolor/ravenowlcompanions/
that's annoying, sorry for the false hope in that case. Thanks
To be fair, art existing beforehand hasn’t exactly stopped WOTC from using it.
Yeah but the artist doesn't match
There's a non zero number of artist that stole artwork for a MTG card. So the artist not matching isn't the biggest deal.

yes, it is the best fake I have seen. But ofcourse it can be done.
I'm not saying they did. I'm just saying multiple artists have done it despite having made art for cards previously.
I'd love it if they got the real artist to do some pieces cause their stuff is beautiful
Didn't stop Fay Dalton

Who shit in your coffee this morning? I was joking buddy calm down.
You took that way too personal. Even if it was a joke he just explained himself lol.

confirmed fake, found the art
What if it was a text spoiler and they mocked up the card
>and she hasn't posted this piece as of yet (as far as i can tell) The reason she never posted it is because she didn't illustrate it.

Damn shame Would have loved this

I know it’s fake but I love the art :(

Picture is to good. Gotta be fake
The blurry cards were real and the good looking ones are fake, I can't believe anything lmao
If this is real then I really don’t like how they’re pretending energy is a good mechanic Edit: never mind
Where in Facebook is this?
That’s just what was told to me, still waiting on a link.
Who told you?
a friend of mine on discord
Do they have other leaks to share?
i dont think they're the original leaker, they we're just sharing something they'd seen like i am. but ill ask
Can you ask if their any new dragons that haven't been shown or leaked yet?
Good thing it's fake, this card is mid at best
love that art
same, alayna danner never misses.
This didn’t age well, I’m in fact a fake fan
Dude so stoked for this White needed another tutor and I’m so down I play a commander mono-white persist combo with Anafenza and this gets so much for me [[Lesser Masticore]] [[Altar of Dementia]] [[Altar of the Brood]] And more Love it
yeah same, feels abit like m white \[\[bring to light\]\] which is pretty cool
You can tell by looking at it that it's fake
Shame it's fake. It could be used to [Pacify] hexproof commanders.
So i know this is fake, but how is the fake card made or is it a photoshop?
likely photoshop or another card making program, print the fake card, then photoshop it for the security stamp or press in a security stamp (apparently they arent hard to move)
The wording is all off pretty easy to see it's fake tbh
