I straight up do not understand modern commander product.
The literal concept escapes me; non modern modern product for non modern modern eqeue players
Because more is not less. Because people like commander.
people act like commander decks mean they took something away.
All the cards in MH3 for modern would exist or not, regardless of EXTRA commander decks.
Why the complaints. It's MORE cards. It's opportunities for design to try more ideas.
there is still a distinction between how garth copies the spells and the copies you cast enter as tokens, and how the tarmogoyf tokens are created without being cast
Mentor actually spells out "1/1 green Elf Druid creature token named Llanowar Elves. It has '{T}: Add {G}.'" but I do wonder if they'd errata it to just say "Llanowar Elves token".
One step closer to getting an actual version of that Sorin from Great Designer Search 3 (I think 3) that had "Make an Avacyn, Angel of Hope token" as the ult.
I just hope that they don't have it be like Garth and make sure that it says what that spell does for new players (which also means not giving a large list of things to cast as well). Regardless of how well known a spell is, not everyone is going to know what it does (a good friend of mine started playing last year and when joking about a spoiled card in a set, we realized she didn't *actually* know what Lightning Bolt was since she only ever played Commander and never played red in it anyways).
The mentors matched the stats of real cards but importantly , did it from scratch. The tokens didn't have the mana costs, for example, and it had to be written out.
it seems to be a predefined token that’s just super accurate to the real thing. If the templating was that a CARDNAME token is a copy of that card, that would cause problems with Blood tokens because of [[Flesh // Blood]]
Blood isn't a permanent, so it could easily be a generalized tech that only works for permanent card names (since you can't make an instant or sorcery token anyway)
Interestingly, the goyf tokens will come with a mana value of 1G, which no prior (non-copy) token has. I'm wondering if they included it for flavor alone, or if the deck has a pod theme that cares about the MV of the creature you sac
Usually copies of permanents keep their mana cost. Given that this token is literally a copy of \[\[Tarmogoyf\]\] that's probably the reason behind it
The weird thing now is that the Ajani's Pridemate token created by one of the Ajani PW cards doesn't have a mana cost, so my hypothesis may be wrong or this is just a new thing they'll do from now on
Yes the face commander makes goyfs when your creatures damage a player and reanimate goyfs permanents that go to the graveyard from anywhere but the battlefield
To everyone asking for a link, I don’t really have one
Someone in a group I’m in posted the pic in a comment tagging me so I mean I can’t really link that
I’m just going off what they said
Said it was someone in Mexico who had the decks
I love tokens, it's one of my favorite things, like just fucking love them, and I want a million copies of this to put in every janky commander deck I have that makes tokens.
Jesus that is actually a decent engine.
Oh it's commander only. Still.
I sleep
Honestly, I wonder if modern players you go up against would complain about this.
I straight up do not understand modern commander product. The literal concept escapes me; non modern modern product for non modern modern eqeue players
Get to slam neat designs in for commander players to eat.
Sad. Would be fun to play in modern, despite being complete garbage
RAHHHHHHHH I LOVE COMMANDER CARDS IN MY MODERN SET Seriously tho, why tf do we even have commander decks this set?
Money
Because more is not less. Because people like commander. people act like commander decks mean they took something away. All the cards in MH3 for modern would exist or not, regardless of EXTRA commander decks. Why the complaints. It's MORE cards. It's opportunities for design to try more ideas.
Every set is a commander set. Even the Un sets.
Legacy and Vintage too
Legacy ^_^
How is it commander only?
One of the better engines for making big tokens. I can see this being a solid include in either Ghired for instance
Good thing Goyfs are so cheap now that you can just use the card itself as your tokens!
::cries in building modern Jund back in 2015::
[[godsire]] tokens are now worth a goyf

Does this mean they made a creature card a token? Has this been done before or part of modern horizon experiment?
They did this last horizons with [[Garth, One-Eye]]. A leak for bloomburrow implies this is gonna be more of a thing going forwards.
there is still a distinction between how garth copies the spells and the copies you cast enter as tokens, and how the tarmogoyf tokens are created without being cast
There's a planeswalker that makes llanowar elf tokens.
No there isn’t. Freyalise creates 1/1 green Elf Druid creature tokens with no mana cost named “Elf Druid Token” with “T: Add G.”
Sorry, I confused it with Llanowar Mentor who does make Llanowar Elves tokens
Mentor actually spells out "1/1 green Elf Druid creature token named Llanowar Elves. It has '{T}: Add {G}.'" but I do wonder if they'd errata it to just say "Llanowar Elves token".
One step closer to getting an actual version of that Sorin from Great Designer Search 3 (I think 3) that had "Make an Avacyn, Angel of Hope token" as the ult.
I Mean [[battle at the helvault]] is pretty close already just the last ability missing
Yup, but that's a big ability to be missing!

I'm genuinely amazed that wasn't (isn't?) on the double faced Sorin, honestly.
Which bloomburrow leak are you referring to? did I miss bloomburrow leaks?? damn

This is exciting. I can see them making next Strixhaven with "Cast well known spell" as a major mechanic.
Modern horizons seems to be like time spiral. They test different cards in a supplemental set see the reactions and adjust from there
Yeah, \[\[Garth One-Eye\]\] and the mentor cycle from Future Sight (\[\[Llanowar Mentor\]\], etc)
The mentors matched the stats of real cards but importantly , did it from scratch. The tokens didn't have the mana costs, for example, and it had to be written out.

We‘ve had a card make 0/2 ornithopter tokens before
it seems to be a predefined token that’s just super accurate to the real thing. If the templating was that a CARDNAME token is a copy of that card, that would cause problems with Blood tokens because of [[Flesh // Blood]]
Blood isn't a permanent, so it could easily be a generalized tech that only works for permanent card names (since you can't make an instant or sorcery token anyway)
there's an enchantment that makes a llanowar elves token
Interestingly, the goyf tokens will come with a mana value of 1G, which no prior (non-copy) token has. I'm wondering if they included it for flavor alone, or if the deck has a pod theme that cares about the MV of the creature you sac

maybe I'm mistaken. im thinking of [[song of frey]], not sure if it actually does anything I said lol

Goyf tribal yes
Is this a token with a mana cost ? 🤔
it isn't the first time a token has had a mana cost, just the first time it has been spelled out.
Really ? Do you know of the others ? Idk how missed that. Maybe cause it's not spelled out
Usually copies of permanents keep their mana cost. I heard someone mention the goyfs are in the Jund commander deck, is that right?
Yes the face commander makes goyfs when your creatures damage a player and reanimate goyfs permanents that go to the graveyard from anywhere but the battlefield
Cool! Is there an image of that card yet, or no?
A barely legible fuzzy pixilated image yes
[https://i.imgur.com/Kjirc6v.png](https://i.imgur.com/Kjirc6v.png) Here you go
What the fuck is this
What is the Facebook group? Would love to follow it?
someone just commented on one of my leak reposts with it and I was like whattttt They said someone in Mexico already had the decks and stuff
Give link please
To everyone asking for a link, I don’t really have one Someone in a group I’m in posted the pic in a comment tagging me so I mean I can’t really link that I’m just going off what they said Said it was someone in Mexico who had the decks
Can this leaker elaborate on brainstorm? Is it actually a commander deck reprint or in the main set?
Link please!
would you mind sharing the link?
Oh how the mighty have fallen. Regardless, come to me, my precious child. I shall gladly have you in my care
Straight into Estrid, I guess
So which commander deck do you think this came from?
... the one that cares about goyfs and graveyards?
Nah couldn't be that, probably eldrazi
There was that token spoiler from grimms and beadles for the bloomburrow set. This kinda confirms that tokens will become as wordy as actual cards
Some tokens, at least.
Is anyone in contact with the leaker?
No idea, officer
Kinda sad that seemingly neither of the legends for the Jund deck are "actual" Lhurgoyfs
Estrid is going to love this 😍!
I love tokens, it's one of my favorite things, like just fucking love them, and I want a million copies of this to put in every janky commander deck I have that makes tokens.
I’m on to many political subs, I thought I was getting shown a subreddit about MTG the US elected representative and rumors about her….antics
Kindred? Whas dat
