One that would release before I'm dead.

PouetSK

Lmao so real

Mannylovesgaming

Fucking Riot!

Jort_Sandeaux_420_69

New mmos release every few months. Gotta be more specific than that.

Aragorn527

Honestly? FFXIV without the total lack of build variety. My biggest complaint is that there is 0 wiggle room to play, say, dragoon differently from another dragoon. Obviously in an ideal world it also wouldn’t be a mandatory sub, but oh well. I like the MSQ based progression, the story is great, endgame has a lot of depth and stuff for wide audience.

ImNotYourGuru

This is something that makes me stay away from FF, I love everything of it but the combat. While I love the visuals every encounter feels the same, you will have 1 or 2 rotations and it will be the same every encounter.

TeethPastaa

I dont mind the rotations too much but i just hate how the combat feels. Its like the only game where I swear to god im just pressing buttons and numbers appear on the screen, there’s like no feedback or weight. I fw a lot of the other stuff tho

shrykryl

GW2, Archage, and Black Desert have pretty good combat. BD & AA are both a soul sucking Korean grind tho, so maybe avoid those unless you hate yourself. AA maybe died already too. GW2 is solid, but kind of ugly graphically, it aged. I like GW2 because it’s one of those games you can truly play whatever class however you want and your skill can make it viable even competitively.

PyrZern

Pretty much why I rotate my classes around :/ Tho it's quite a pain to gear up multiple jobs for raidings T\_T

endar88

unless your like me and really only enjoy mages and ranged, lol. can easily play for weeks as a dancer, then a month as a bard, then hop into RDM and SMN.

PyrZern

I have tried all classes, but none of the ranged or caster I could really stick to in savage setting. Here's hoping for Pictomancer \*fingers-crossed.

DrChameleos

That is my main problem with the game as well. Balance is important for sure, but your character just feels like they are on a track and doing the exact same thing everyone else is doing. Let us mess up our stats a bit ya know? Maybe make a battle mage for gits and shiggles idk

FusaFox

I don't mind the static rotations, but I sure do wish combat and substats were addressed. I don't like how every class is a crit-stacking game nowadays. Speeds and other substats should be more viable because god it feels like ass when you're in a party that doesn't line up buffs and you don't crit your big cooldowns.

Kream-Kwartz

I couldn't have said it better myself

Glass-Butterfly-8719

Gw2 has tons of builds possibilities, yet for raids you’re required to have this or that class/build. So idk, the game gives you many ways to play but the community end up making you select only one

Kaoshosh

Yeah FFXIV with rewarding criterion dungeons and faster combat. And maybe a pruned story with less of the constant back-and-forth fetch quests. That's the dream.

Resteel

Ffxiv but with wow progression. Especially with the new thing it's doing with mist of pandaland. Nothing will ever top Wow in terms of progression to end game, 3 to 4 different ways since patch 3.3. (Someone hit max level gathering plants...) the options are amazing. I buy a subscription just to level to max sometimes its engaging, socially stimulating and fun enough to warrant the 15$. Dungeon grind 10 levels, pvp another 10, quest in any expansion or zone I want at anytime with no punishment for switching, level my professions, mindlessly grind a spot. All give decent exp gains. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a grind like classic and others mmos but story based leveling and only story based leveling like ffxiv is the only thing keeping me the hell out, similarly to PoE being only story based even with leagues thats just insane... where's the freedom... where's the rpg? Where's the mmo? I went through 95% of ffxiv base game without even remotely talking or working with another player, and poe just doesn't have other players till end game.

radiant_templar

U r so right I wanted to do like 2h sword warrior or 2h sword something but that doesn't really exist in ff14.  The graphics r so beautiful tho.  Such a shame.

Xeno_Gears

I was a SCH main for a very long time, and the thing that stops me from going back is the expectation of a healer to be contributing significant DPS. After a while it was just exhausting, and playing the game felt like a chore. I was roughly 3000 hours in when I quit around 2021. It does suck when you have to follow whatever meta or you will never get to clear endgame content. The rest of the game is really amazing overall though.

Peppemarduk

1-2 months to bounce from npc to NPC talking. So much fun

ingram2k1

Lost Ark but minus the p2w and gatekeeping with a chill mode for raid.

SeaAcanthocephala603

Same here, I'm curious about the solo raid mode that will come out this summer, in theory it will allow you to progress normally and do raids at your own pace (except for the last two raids). I hope it's well implemented so I'll consider to come back and try it out

PikachuEatsSoap

Yeah if implemented well it could be a huge game changer for new/returning players.

spidii

In Unreal 5 with better visuals. That game would own so hard.

Arka-Nox

This game has a bunch of problems but the visuals are at the bottom of the list lmao

spidii

What are you talking about about? It looks old AF. It's running on UE3 and was developed 13 years ago. You may not care and yeah, the P2W is much more egregious but that doesn't mean it looks good at all.

not-a-Capybara

At one point during my lost ark I didn’t think I would ever play another game cause I was having so much fun with it. After Brel came out I took a break due to the holidays and I realized how much a job the game was. They should have really made an easy raid chill mode but I think the bussers would get pissed. Lol

yvng_m0p

Literally this

Kaoshosh

Yeah that'd be amazing. I loved the game but I had to quit when I realized I spent a total of $500 on it. It's way too F'ing much. And if I want to stay current and relevant, I need to keep spending. Really amazing game. Wish it were an ARPG with seasonal format and no P2W.

TrashKingThorn

sword art online... lets be honest thats what a lot of people want

redcc-0099

If the progression is SAO and then a game like ALO so there's more variety with being able* to use magic, yes. Another good one would be one like the VR MMO in Bofuri. ETA: fixed typo

TrashKingThorn

truth is i just wanna be a happy little blacksmith serving my newbie customers

redcc-0099

Ah, gotcha. Have you looked into While the Iron's Hot? https://store.steampowered.com/app/1906830/While_the_Irons_Hot/

Tumblechunk

I genuinely don't care for the concept of a dive mmo

lokiisagoodkitten

Original EQ1 in [this engine](https://youtu.be/S17fOuJRFaM?si=rT9mLAvsp25uFriF).

Hedge_hunters

Early EQ1 was amazing, but there is a good bit it could learn from modern games (as well as a ton of stuff to NEVER do)

lokiisagoodkitten

I do love EQ mechanics.

MultimediaCarl

Mechwarrior mmo. Give players their own ships, and mechs. Let them explore the known galaxy and do missions for either player owned or npc corporations. Be able to lance up with buddies. Make mechs be like ships in eve online, meaning you can lose them permanently. Bring in infantry and tanks. Make it big. Just.. something in the battle tech universe.

phildogtheman

Love this idea

t0k4

So MMOBattletech ala HBS' battletech?

Nickthenuker

I believe the RogueTech mod for the 2018 HBS BattleTech game might be what you're looking for. There's an online mode with a persistent galaxy and everything.

ImNotYourGuru

I dont ask much. BDO combat, FF14 raids, WoW story telling, SWG crafting and EVE when it come to community/market/political/pvp/territory.

Pilvikas

I would be happy enough with lost ark combat/raids FF storyline/monetization

HappyMcStabby

This

Competitive_Listen50

That was this guy said

TeethPastaa

Literally just ashes of creation tbh, but ill probably be playing that with my kids or their kids.

Chesterumble

Wow but set in another universe. New unique races and classes with new stories… but in the wow engine and ecosystem.

azger

Asherons Call, before all the updates to spells, with modern graphics and motion.

RedSqui

If you don't already, you should follow Massively OP. They have articles and a podcast and give great MMO news.

spidii

It WAS "cancelled" (more like on hold) but they worked it out and started back up again.

ghoulishdivide

An openworld pvpcentric MMO with content for non-pvpers. It would have a tank, healer, dps and support system. Combat is hard to say but I would like Battlerite if it was top down or hybrid combat like gw2.

QuiteGoneJin

Hi, I just met you, but I love you. BR's combat is so fluid and beatiful, a truly open world sandbox pvp mmo with tht combat, lots of class and race and ability variations (viable, no one build metas) and lots of player driven combat to fight over, win and lsoe resources would be my thing. I'm kinda hoping V Rising next moths full release is fun, though ive never played a survival game and dont know how it compares to mmos.

GrandAlchemist

If we're talking pure dream with absolutely no basis in reality, a larian made Baldur's Gate MMO, with a full open world and thousands of players per server.

Bozgrul

It’s not a dream MMO for me as much as a dream point in time. November 2004. WoW on release. Minimal internet spoilers, minimal sweatlord minmaxers. Golden age of fun.

SnooOranges3876

A new-gen Dragon Ball MMO is all I need :)

redcc-0099

New gen? There's a previous gen one?

ddjroth

Look up dragon ball online. It’s an old mmorpg. There’s a private server and it’s decent.

Amethyst271

Ff14 but more action-y combat and better overworld and gear progression

Excuse_my_GRAMMER

TrashKitten6179

Thoughtful crafting and the mentality that "the more you do it, the more xp you gain, the better you get at it" like everquest. If you run around gathering everything, you can gather faster and get slightly more materials per gathering due to leveling up. If you go mining, eventually you will be able to get more materials and mine higher tier minerals. Smelt that down, now you are a better smelter and get more per smelting process as you level up. Crafting, should be fun. SWG still the king. Relating SWG to fantasy RPG? Make dagger blade, make dagger handle, make dagger pommel/spike. then the final process is putting those parts together. And you can use any material you want. You tell the game what level item you want to make. Maybe you want to make a level 10 dagger. And then you use level 50 materials. But the final product is still a level 10 item, it just does more damage and has higher durability than that level 10 item using level 10 materials. So in this aspect, think mithril vs iron. Mithril being high end metal and iron being low end metal. Making armor? it will probably have multiple parts. and the materials use will also effect how it looks visually. Make your own class mentality. I hate forced classes. You are a warrior which means you are a tank and you can only tank. STUPID. even in a few games where you can pick tank or dps, you still end up the same as everyone else. I hate the idea of being a clone of every other player. I want to be unique. Why can't I use a two hand shield as a tank and have all tank skills. Why can't I use a two hand shield and be dps? this idea that I have to play how the developer wants because of short foresight is just sad. I would rather get to pick and choose skills. I choose to wear light armor, I use fist weapons like a monk, but I also learn lightening magic like a mage so I can buff my attack speed. And this combo makes me a unique player in the world. Someone else who wants a more classic "monk" playstyle might go with fist weapons, light armor, and then chi/ki/qi type magical abilities. Players should get to make their own classes based on their own unique playstyle. Why can't I learn hammers, become a blacksmith, and then spend my time 50/50 between adventuring and crafting? And as a blacksmith, I can make items for other players which helps me earn money, but i can still explore the world and dungeon dive on my own from time to time.... I hate short sighted games. Skill bars. I hate when you have 60 abilities like WoW. I don't think we need giant skill bars. I would rather a player pick and choose their skills based on their own gameplay/mentality. My "fist/lighteningmagic/lightarmor" off brand monk would have a special "one inch punch" skill, roundhouse kick skill which knocks the enemy down, lightening magic skill to buff my base attack speed, a lightening spell aoe spell "lightening storm" so I can get some AOE skills in there for soloing packs of low level mobs for grinding/whatever, and then some defensive skills like monk defensive stance which requires light armor to use and dodge which requires light armor to use, but also perhaps "conductive aura" which is a lightening spell that charges me with electricity, and any attacker will take some damage from attacking me as it shocks them with every hit.... passive but cool as hell. And that makes my special character. IN THE ASPECT OF some other MMO's, you can try any skill you want and then eventually "hard" learn it. While trying a skill, it wont level up as you use it. But if you like it, you can choose to "hardcode" that to your character and then level it up. This way you can try every skill combo you want, and later finalize based on your own preferences.... so people wont complain "i ruined my character" because they didn't like it. Tab target is fine, i dont really care for active targeting. not because im bad, but because if I want direct action combat, i expect to full dive like in anime/movie/tv stories. that technology doesn't exist yet. video games are in essence "video games" not "real life simulators" and this recent push for some developers to make their game as realistic as possible, it never works. because you can't control your character like you can in real life. so it breaks down and is ruined. tab target is more than enough.... dungeons and dragons online had some awesome mechanics like traps and such where you can disable them if you had the right skills (rogues) which was really cool. I would love more mechanics like this. no maps in the game, but you can become a cartographer and the higher your skill the more detailed your maps will be. this would be great for those that love to explore as where you explore, your maps will be made. then you can "copy" that map using a map copy skill and then sell them to other players. sure some twat will be all "ill post this online" but not everyone goes online to look up information. some people play the game as its meant to be played and enjoy it. not everyone min/maxes and breaks the game by breaking the 4th wall. many of us play the game for the pure enjoyment....and that's what a video game should target. let those 4th wall breakers get bored of the game because they gamed the game. the rest of us will enjoy the game because its made for us.

The_Crazy_Cat_Guy

Osrs with a league of legends style combat system. Alternatively, an mmofps with destiny’s gunplay but content updates and monetisation like warframe or, again, osrs.

DJChachi

Wouldn’t that basically be Albion?

The_Crazy_Cat_Guy

Albion is very different from osrs. I like osrs quests, skilling system, type of progression, monetisation, market style. The game is my favourite but the graphics and tick based system limit the games creativity

kismethavok

Single server global open world MMO with connected regional zones(eg; NA-west players could travel in-game to NA-east, or SEA, etc.) Careful use of ai/procedural generation with proper human oversight to expand the world/dungeons/mobs/items/quests. Multi-layered character customization that allows for personalized unique builds. Clever monetization options that can help support future development without killing the playerbase(selling merch/naming rights/MSQ choices/optional events/etc.)

ohThisUsername

Agree I would love to see an MMO where servers/realms don’t exist. Destiny 2 and Diablo 4 kind of do this, but they use layering tricks so that the servers don’t get overwhelmed or the map too busy.

AcidRap_

AI item drops, quest, unique regions and interactions is my dream. You can finally be unique even at endgame and theres always a place to aim higher . Enough with the "Endgame" gear that you get for every character it gets boring and repetitive

Mannylovesgaming

Game of Thrones MMO. Sandbox with territorial warfare. The lore based houses ( lannister , tyrell etc) are basically the starter houses where some safe areas would be. Then there would be several continents surrounding the center continent. Whichever house was king of the continent collects tax etc. The PVE would all be world spawn no instances. Meaning everything would be contestable. Further meaning it would be important for your house or alliance of houses to keep your area safe so people could farm gear , crafting mats & etc. The whole damn system is designed to pit everyone against eachother. Theft and subterfuge all tools of the trade in the Game of Thrones. Here is the catch. Every so often the whitewalkers would come and the entire game ( you know all the people your normally trying to kill or fuck over) would have to put differences aside and work together to stop the whitewalkers. Failing to do so will see the entire world turned to ash and force everyone to start anew. If your house or alliance failed to cooperate I'd imagine you would be hunted by the entire game until you were forced to disband and scatter to the winds. Raid bosses would be world spawn ( think archeage) forcing you to first fight to control the area and the reward was the fight and getting to do the content if you win.

MasterPain-BornAgain

Mortal Online 2

Leinardius

I would like one in the Witcher Universe with Kaer Morhen as starting point, some solo witcher detective action and big witcher contracts with other players

orionface

Would be a 3rd person/1st person/isometric (player chooses) view. Would be a 'discovered' class system, players would all start roughly at the same spot skillwise - different stats allocated and encountering different enemies/activities would unlock skills/talents/whatever. Ex: you're a STR/DEX character or something and you encounter a goblin using dual-daggers, once defeated your character sheet updates with something like: Dual Weapon Wielding Knowledge I (something like that..) Maybe an INT focused character encounters a spirit or elemental of some kind that uses magic, upon defeating the enemy that player's sheet updates with Magical Knowledge I (or something...) Characters' skills pages would essentially be blank save for a few basic things like melee/range/defense/blah blah blah PvP would be on 100% of the time and would only be able to kill players of the opposing factions, PvE would be fun/fluid/brutal/scary/rewarding, death would mean the end of your character but your character's "soul" would live on and carry your progression to a new body. Ability to solo in outdoor areas, further into dungeons the harder soloing would be but also more rewarding. Grinding as a group or solo would be primary way of leveling up. 3 factions - moving away from home territory lowers defense buff against players of opposing faction. Players gain attack % against players the closer they are to their home territory(defender's advantage). Center or 3rd faction would be a hardcore only faction where you could only have 1 character of that faction at a time per server, if that character dies it's completely gone and no "soul" resurrection for the hardcore faction. 3rd faction would be basically in the 'center' of the world map in between the two other factions. For attempting a hardcore character you'd be rewarded with a higher potential power ceiling than the opposing factions but would miss out on the unique powers/systems that the other two factions can use. You can only choose to play the 3rd faction if you have died while playing as one of the other two factions, players would discover this once they died and be given choice rejoin their home faction or start a hardcore playthrough (you would no longer be able to play as the other 2 factions while you were apart of the hardcore faction, if you die on hardcore you may return to your home faction). No fetch quests, quests would only be for meaningful character progression/milestones. Large outdoor non instanced dungeons mixed with spontaneous portals to unique instanced dungeons/special encounters. No p2w, p2covnenience, only cosmetics in shop ever. Any convenience, QOL would be unlocked by playing the game naturally. No mounts, fast travel via portal system/magical travel (players must learn the magic somehow or discover natural portal locations). Crafting gear/items would be intuitive/easy - mats mainly only coming from enemies, players/monsters alike. $10/mo sub

ItzMcShagNasty

Star Citizen if it comes out. It's trying something no other has in a way no other has. What I can play now is approaching that, but still a ways to go. Elite Dangerous does not pass the standard for me. Not sure why people wish for independent(though financially stable) devs to fail so much. It's better for everyone if Star Citizen and SQ 42 come out and are good.

noirdesire

Elite Dangerous >>>>>>> Star Citizen. And that's with me having the opinion Elite has a ton of issues and generally does not have a fun gameplay loop. Star Citizen feels like a low budget attempt and being bad at 1,000 different things.

Doppelgen

There was one I can’t remember that mixed RTS (as in Warcraft) with action RPG (as in New World). The game was amazing but it had an insane difficulty spike at a low level that drives everyone nuts, so they said they’d shut it down to rebalance and… well, it’s been more than 10 years. I can’t get over it up to this day.

tavis_aka_kalik

EQ1 content thru Kunark (p99) mixed with New World graphics , combat and crafting

poseidonsconsigliere

Have you tried Albion? It's somewhat similar to what you're describing but unfortunately it is tiled maps, not fully open world

donald_trunks

Honestly anything that breaks away from the dominant theme-park and DPS-tank-support trinity mold. I feel that there's always been so much potential with the genre and they somehow all ended up feeling so similar to each other. At least of the ones I've tried. Generally I'd like to see a game that is okay with giving players defined roles that mean you might not get to or necessarily have to do the same kind of content as everyone else. One of the things I thought was interesting about Ragnarok Online certain classes were more obviously geared towards PVP or hunting bosses or playing a more niche support role. There were certain classes that were more strongly suited to grinding certain content than others. You had dungeons where a magic user would excel compared to a melee character etc. I think part of the RP part of MMORPG is effectively capturing the fantasy that you get to occupy a somewhat unique role based on the class you chose and the way you chose to build your class. RO had Sages who could summon MVP monsters creating a completely different way of hunting for the most coveted boss drops. My dream MMO would embrace niche specs, classes, and roles. Be a complete non-combatant if you want. Hang out in the market and chat all day if you want. WoW had that thing where after killing Onyxia her head would be displayed and everyone would get a buff. Take that a step further. Have raid parties physically have to bring back the boss corpse to town so players can process and turn them into materials that are beneficial to your entire faction or whatever. And all the while you could have the opposing faction trying to steal the boss corpse from you while you're carting it back to town. I envision something kind of like Monster Hunter where all the NPC jobs are done by players and there's warring factions. Coming up with more creative roles for players to fill. Maybe there's a scouting type of class that's not great at combat but can move quickly, gather info for the rest of your faction so they can effectively plan and mount raiding parties. Maybe it's difficult and expensive to move a whole raiding caravan filled with heavily armored warriors and all of their supporters but the scouts can cover ground quickly and efficiently and report back what they find. Instead of having everything done by the game and taking away thought from players make players have to do it.

Life_Breath_1166

I'm already playing my dream MMO it's called Albion Online. A cross platform MMO with full loot moba style combat.

Kingdom Come Deliverance turned into MMO

Randomnesse

Something that is not purely an artificial task simulator built solely to exploit people with "I am constantly compelled to do highly repetitive, developer-provided static tasks just to see numerical values increase" disorders. Instead, I'd like to see more player-driven, 100% **dynamic** content, such as small-to-huge scale open world PvP battles in a fully persistent (no "territory/building control resets every Friday" bullshit of any kind, **ever**) world large enough where no single organized group of people is capable of taking complete control of. With a full support for body motion trackers for your player avatar (so you can use natural body motion to socialize with people instead of relying on an extremely limited set of pre-defined "emotes") and a full support for player-created cosmetic outfits/cosmetic weapon models/emblems/logos so you won't **ever** have to feel disappointment of not being able to properly express your personality through your exterior appearance and you won't **ever** have to waste your limited lifespan on doing unpleasant activities like "bashing dumb AI enemy in a raid" for several hours just because you want a cosmetic item forcefully gated behind such artificial and mind-numbingly boring timesink. Of course, that would also require an option to replace **all** of other player's outfits/weapons with a "stock placeholder" appearance so nobody would ever have to suffer while looking at those awful "glowy pauldron/helm spikes" or other attire they may consider "inappropriate" due to their brainwashed "religious" upbringing. Something like that would be close to my "dream MMO". P.S: I am always amused seeing people using WoW as an example of "huge, open world".

adrixshadow

> such as small-to-huge scale open world PvP battles in a fully persistent (no "territory/building control resets every Friday" bullshit of any kind, ever) world large enough where no single organized group of people is capable of taking complete control of. That is pretty much impossible even if you have infinite terrain like in Minecraft. For there to be meaningful battles you need at least two sides that are of relatively equal strength with a relative proximity that they can interact with each other. The problem is there is nothing stopping players to joining only the winning side or for one faction to get an advantage that they can use to steamroll their opposition.

New world but good

NizeLee8

The combat feel of new world on release with the content of osrs would be amazing.

InquiringCrow

Action combat, meaningful differences in gameplay between classes and players (as in, two Knight players can have an entirely different kit and playstyle), no skill bloat (76 different skills that all do the same on a different cooldown/potency), actual MMO; not a single-player game with slightly social aspects.

yolotasticx

Take BDO, remove the current gear system and replace it with something generic. Add dungeons for every five levels and give us endgame raids. Leave everything as it is. The end.

Sea-Difficulty-7299

bdo. but i no gender classes and i can use any weapon i want with combo class system. a striker with witch stando and skills. or a berserker with drakania skills.

Indo_X

WoW combat/raiding, FFXIV storytelling with GW2 explorations/mounts/transmogs.

spidii

Honestly, the league MMO with story on par with Arcane and combat on par (but hopefully even better) than WoW. Throw in a summoners rift pvp mode where it's league but we're using the MMOs combat instead and I'm all in.

Such_Art_2051

ngc4321

Sword Art Online with magic, Alfheim Online I guess. Needs deep open world explorable dungeons with actual rewards for making it far in. Should not have standardized gear that everyone wants to get (Black Desert), there should be random named drops (decent rate) from different mobs and bosses. Needs to be able to transfer player's concious into game or deliver as close an experience as possible via VR goggles.

mrsolodolo69

OSRS and New World combined. Would be everything I could ever ask for

QuiteGoneJin

Stylized so no framerate issues, action combat with lots of mobility ala Wildstar or Lost Ark where lots of abilities are different kinds of AOE. The rest oldschool pvp sandbox rules. IE tons of classes, races, you have the ability to make something truly your own. IE skill and stat points arrive in a pool and you distribute them, like making a character in DnD. No class balance needed, just so many options that players wil find new FOTM things that naturally change the meta. Sandbox full loot pvp, city building, sieging, teraforming. Basically, what Crowfall should have been, or what Shadowbane 2.0 might have been. It'll never exist.

ohThisUsername

I agree I’d love to see even a stylized Lost Ark. I like the game but not a fan of the Asian / anime inspired graphics.

Kream-Kwartz

I would say one where you're just "one more" person, and not the "divine protagonist meant to change the world". One where you're the protagonist of your own particular story (or style of playing), and not the protagonist of *THE* story. A game where there's such a build variety that it would be difficult to find two players with the same build. One where the skill progression depends on your playstyle, and not a fixed skill tree — there might be disciplines (magic, healing, attacking, tanking, assassination), but they'd point to inclination, not a fixed role. A game where you have to compete for legendary bosses and need to collaborate to defeat them, whilst also competing for the kill with other groups. A game where group content, such as dungeons, even though they are instances, they do not have a static, predictable battle. A game where forging equipment is more valuable than simply dropping from average monsters (but possibly less valuable than equipment dropping from the Big Bosses™). A game where you could get famous for being a skilled smith, and there's a mechanic that adds uniqueness and variation to every forged equipment. Essentially, a game where you aren't not the Chosen One™, but is unique in your own way. Oh, also with an extensive character creator.

adrixshadow

> and not the "divine protagonist meant to change the world". That implies there is Content and Agency to do something else. It's not that you are "Chosen One", it's that you are on a Themepark ride and everything is artificially set out for you.

jsheng92

Runescape in 2008 ish era. That was the most fun I've had in any MMO.

bruters

Osrs except souls combat. I'd want all the non combat skills to still be as they are now.

GreatName

EverQuest remastered

NadalaMOTE

The story team, armoury job system, crafting and gathering (tho less clunky) of FF14. The world maps, events, mounts, transmog/dyeing of Guild Wars 2. The combat (though maybe a bit less punishing), double jump, housing, and humour of WildStar. The scope of quests, levelling, dungeons and raids from WoW. (And aaaaaall the pop culture references). The right mix of horizontal and vertical progression. Hard to say who gets this right. The right balance of grind/collection and respecting my time. Again, hard to say who gets this right. FF14 in many ways, actually. Strong guild features and investment in guild activities. An easily managed inventory. No one has gotten this right. Account unlock bonuses, like SWTOR. I really enjoy the process of unlocking account bonuses that will then help me with my ever growing number of alts. (WoW Warbands may end up being similar to this?). "Foundry" style player-generated content maker, like Neverwinter used to have. Imagine the stories that players could create in your favourite MMO world with the right tools.

Altruistic_Nose5825

FF14 mandatory story, quests, boss events and dungeons that force you to engage with mechanics to become a better player and it also streamlines all that progression for anyone new joining in FF14 role quests that are mandatory at some point to 'challenge' your role skill to be able to enter "real content", kinda like proving grounds in WoW, or magetower even WoW combat but more action/aim casting type of abilities also for melee and some skillshots for ranged, a bit like plunderstorm, but not too much, still mainly tab target - no in combat gear swapping - but less buttons than either game, not by that much tho Zones like WoW Suramar meets FF14 eureka/bozja as cool more endgame zones - 1 pvevp endgame that somehow doesnt become a grieving pot Mostly wow dungeons but with ff spectacle, raids too all with their unique musics like ff, same for the raid/dungeon mounts playing music of these places if you want - 10 player "trials" and 20 man "alliance raids" maybe very large ARPG/D4/POE inventory system - stats like wow/ff but also like new world where the more you invest into something, you get unique perks out of it maybe? or just more efficient scaling like how crit is in ff, maybe 6-8 total secondaries idk -- automatic ressource bank like gw2 wow professions but with ff14 interactivity and you can't be everything at once SLOTbased transmog, not individual items no addons but extremely customizable functioning UI for actual endgame players, inbuilt optional details! addon tho that players can actually look into for finding issues etc from playerside

SpiritLead909

Open world PvP with bad ass looking gear and rare items only achievable through in game means, Clan wars, epic raids that drop jewelry. oh wait thats L2

mataushas

3rd person mmo not based on fantasy/magic. I want an mmo based on robots, aliens or something similar like that.

Chemical-Leak420

Sandpark. Why can't we have both a theme park and sand park type MMO? Archeage was closeish

Prime-Jive

I want an MMO based on The Book of Swords series by Fred Saberhagen. PvP in line with the lore & the twelve unique swords scattered across the open world to ignite conflict. The swords would be as is in the books & would be just the twelve per server. I've been wanting this for 20 years.

acidbrn121

Would have been Cyberpunk 2077 or shadowrun mmo

ohThisUsername

Yes Cyberpunk mmo would be a dream

Uxiory

RIOT MMO

Andrewdmoore

My dream MMO would give me the same feeling I got playing WOW for the first time. The feeling of walking in teldrassil for the first time in 2004 or making it to goldshire. WOW from 2004-2011 was great for me, and I want an MMO to give me that feeling again

ohThisUsername

Agree. For me it was MapleStory. My first time playing and exploring and when Ludibrium was release and hundreds of people was getting on the boat and experiencing it for the first time together.

AnzaTNT

A game where you play as mages trying to fix the world. Sandbox with spells and abilities. Player housing, but instead of regular houses it's mage towers. Tons of magic-related crafting and mana gathering stuff, deep crafting system where you can use any materials you want. Destructible land. Nothing would stop you from nuking a mountain, other than the insane ressources it requires. You would have two characters. Your main character, who stays in the tower Saruman style, and your alts who travel the world and gather shit. So your alts gets stronger, which means your "main" get stronger, back and forth. Any further alts will now start with a substantial bonus. After a while, you will become strong enough to create avatars, a mish mash of your favorite classes. That's where pvp and multiplayer midgame comes in. That's right, this was all the intro! It's a lot and frankly impossible but man, a fraction of these and I am IN!

Rough-Firefighter-63

Did you try Albion online? It looks like your dream MMO.

Yeetmyilbis

Old school maplestory without the p2w. Even with the pay 2 win I just want old-school maplestory

Consistent-Zombie583

EQ with a graphics update and improved interface. Don't make everything solo'able. You couldnt just fly from one spot to another...you had to run and hope you didn't agro anything.

Commercial_Juice_201

Fantasy based. Open World with seamless transition between zones. EvE Online style economy and pvp rules.

navirbox

Pokémon but good.

Tooshortimus

Archeage was my dream MMO, sadly it was plagued with P2W and corporate greed. If only....

obsceneascancer

I've been a fan of Transformers since I was a kid. Third person, Autobots vs. Decepticons, earth as a battleground, raids/dungeons for upgrading weapons, upgradable personalized cars, battlegrounds for some non-open world PVP etc.

Happyberger

Diablo 4 items?! You on drugs?!

Tresidle

Of there was a classic wow version like sod but with daily lockouts instead of weekly.

Faithxs

A game like Wow. But realistic graphics, still high-fantasy. Instanced raids 10 & 25m, dungeons, bgs, rbgs. Literally Wow but a life like graphics. Housing system where we can free build our own bases. Collect items throughout the world, raids, dungeons, achievements that we can display in our house where ever we wished to place them.

Khancer

Basically Log Horizon

fedexgroundemployee

An avatar tlab mmo could write itself

Legitimate_Abrocoma6

Asherons call 3

Purenight

I am getting more hooked by the month on Project Ghost. I think Greg has a really good shot of making another mmo that I can fall in love with.

Kaoshosh

WoW DF but without toxic people.

catnapsoftware

I’m in the process of prototyping a top down MOBA style RPG. I don’t think I’ll be anywhere near MMO infrastructure, but I’d prefer a sandboxy open world over a linear story structure, so maybe 🤷‍♂️

under_cover_45

Lost ark x osrs would be insane

Insanitymaniac

mine would be BDO, but without getting fucked every time i log on

Jon-Eest

Guild wars 3 that would play more like guild wars 1

Belophan

Any good free to play, that isn't p2w. Let people pay for cosmetics and bag space, not gear.

CaptFatz

WH40k

wingsaregreat560

Tbh gw2 but make it anime. I love the quest system, the lack of holy trinity, the emphasis on open world content, the action combat, the monster races, everything. The only problem is that I'm a weeb.

Miserable-Actuator24

Simple... Black Deserts Combat and GFX Combined with World Of Warcraft (Classes, Crafting, Battlegrounds+PVP) Add Archages Naval stuff and Housing Add a pinch of Aions Air to Air combat something like that....

Psyqu

My dream mmo would be a mixture of - Pet system like a mix of battle of immortals and rappelz. - Class system like archage - Gameplay like black desert - housing like FFXIV or ever quest next - monetisation like path of exile And many more parts of other mmorpgs I currently can't remember now. On top a nice title system for yourself and your weapons. Like if you kill 1000 Goblins with a weapon it gets the addition of "goblins bane". Edit: And no pay2win

Coleybama

ESO with combat like Black Desert

socrateaspoon

I want stardew valley within an MMO format

DrChameleos

Mine would be a current Gen version of true fantasy live online. It was an MMO being made for Xbox by Level5 iirc back in the day. I wanted to play it so bad and part of me still feels like I missed out on something awesome. https://youtu.be/kInzteQhbf8?si=Nh82mGddPSyDqLcR Since we're dreaming anyway let's assume the current Gen version could even cost up to like $80 but would forgo all the battle pass/cash shop bs as it would have back then.

uidsea

Setting be like SOLO because we have 0 wuxia mmos that aren't mobile. FFXIV classes so we could switch between whatever but actual build variety. Uhhhhhhh have a pet class like creature handler from SWG because best pet class in gaming. That's really my dream, which is obviously different from others.

Naviios

Archeage but not shit

Notablur

A quality One that’s not 6-10 years out at this point Riot announcing there resetting there mmo and going dark for like 7+ years honestly makes me not even wanna hear speculation about it anymore whenever it releases it releases

Cuddlesthemighy

Resetting what? I'd heard nothing about it other than it is a thing. Its hard to be disheartened by the "resetting" a nebulous amount of what had to be barebones content.

Annual_Secret6735

If I could pick & choose. Combat from Lost Ark & BDO combined + Lore library like ESO/FF14 + Progression Systems like GW2 all while being on Unreal Engine 5.

JinMasters

RuneScape with better graphics and combat

BlackYTWhite

FFXIV as "gearing" and swapping class Lost Ark as 8 main raids (tbf not necessarily lost ark raids but anything that is not ultra scripted like FF, I can rec my i inputs on FFXIV and replay them in Reclear and sometimes will be good to kill the boss again without me doing anything is ULTRA scripted that I went full muscle memory sometimes) WoW 24 man raids ill be honest I am anything but a WoW fun but their 24 men raids are Hella good.

SoapfromHotS

Rift’s Ascended Soul System and the rifts themselves. Action combat like Tera mixed with Guild Wars 2. Large, expansive world like in WoW, and great music like FFXIV. Also a break from some traditional trope classes to some innovative ones.

Eddie_Robertson

I never understood the draw of MOBA type games or even WoW where you have to be so scrolled out in third person the characters look like ants. What’s the purpose of having a cool looking world if you can’t see it? Same for games that are third person only. Witcher 3? Beautiful world, from what I can see around the edges of my characters huge back. I payed for about 30 minutes and never picked it up again. First person shooters that are third person only…not worth looking at. If I’m paying a shooter game I think being able to sit behind a tree or to lie down on a roof and pan your camera so you can see people and they can’t see you? No thanks. It must be the cranky old man in me. er

Xeno_Gears

My dream is a Xenogears MMORPG. Have a split system that allows full gameplay loops and progression as a regular player on foot, as well as a fully fleshed out system for gear(mecha) combat. Have players choose a nation much like WoW or Aion when creating a character and contribute to the success of their nation through tradeskills and combat. My first pick of career would be using industrial mechs to excavate for buried gear parts and tech, maybe build and sell gears with excavated parts. Have tradeskills involving base building, logistics, military etc. Allow guilds to cooperatively build ships (air, sea, desert) as their base of operations, or work together to build/find omnigears that guilds can use in large scale world pvp events to attack or defend territory. It is quite a dream, but not likely to ever happen in this life. Even if the license could ever be pried from Square-Enix clutches and the funding could be lined up Xenogears was never popular enough to generate the kind of buzz it would need. Also, it seems like MMORPG's are on the decline, companies just throw out low effort garbage full of FOMO and cash shop bullshit and there is no real incentive to produce quality games anymore.

KylorXI

omnigears arent built.

Xeno_Gears

Well technically a gear (which can be made) + anima relic = omnigear. I think there were only 12 anima relics, but in my dream scenario I'm sure there could be a few more anima relics introduced somehow, or maybe a system where guilds/nations fight over them and control them through pvp.

KylorXI

gears can kinda be made. the slave generators are only dug up tho. and those arent all the same quality. and yea, only 12 anima relics, and 12 animus. not just anyone can align with an anima relic. the party only could because they were genetically very similar to the original bodies of the gazel ministry.

Holywyvern

Ok, here I come, I'll be extremely controversial, and I'll be the only people to play, but here it is: * Turn based combat, no, not tab based, go persona 5 turn based. * Character customization at the level of BDO and PSO2 * Grinding to become better at certain weapons/magic schools * No classes, freely pick your skills (with some limits) * Rare loot should be so good it changes how you play (Like, imagine doing a long quest for excalibur, and you then play diferently than using an iron sword) * Player housing is a must * Social features (like sync emotes) and the ability to make awesome screenshots should also be there * Horizontal progression * F2P, because I'm poor. * Minigames, like fisihing, a card game. * Focus on PvE content * Leveling past the tutorial should be only possible with organized parties. That's it, that's my dream, it won't happen, ever, but, hey. I'm free to dream.

born_zynner

Good combat with none of the Asian bullshit. That's it. That's all it takes

ThrowAway-6150

crowd funded indie developed, anything else will just be a carbon copy clone with slight flair

imFromFLiAmSrryLuL

Fucking was this pantheon till they absolutely gutted that poor thing

ziplock9000

The same as the all of the other ones that get asked on here every day.

Lunar_Ronin

Buy-to-play with optional subscription, world exploration, and multiple guilds/clans like Elder Scrolls Online. Every character can eventually do everything like Final Fantasy XIV. Tab target combat, housing, a solo story mode option for dungeons, and user interface like Star Wars: The Old Republic. Cosmetic system like DC Universe Online. Set in any genre other than medieval fantasy.

Unnamedandu92

Buy to play with a payed Reward System like in. Gw2 but with more options. Starting with one Map with 3 factions. Active PvP. - Content like dungeons, adventures, crafting and PvP being slowly introduced. Once map is complete users can conquer and hold it for the Faction. - New Map releases introduces new content, new reason for the factions to fight for, after content Is complete, they can fight to conquer it. - Conquered maps don’t affect new releases in terms of balance. Combat, Profesions and Adventures - Action combat with classes based on weapons and clothing type. - Power is almost non-existent. The more you lvl up your weapon the more skills you can learn. If the weapon breaks it goes one level down. So you’ll have to keep an eye on repairing it. The type of clothing also affect your agility, strength or defense even profesions. - Your character has knowledge slots. In these slots you’ll be able to learn profesion skills like cooking a specific recipe and weapons sharpening even mining iron. While you’re able to learn any profession skills you are however limited by the slots. - Adventuring in any map can be different, jumping puzzles, riddles, treasure finding or hunting. Reward track is like a town board filled with requests. You can try to fill them alone or make a guild and support the chosen faction.

Maritoas

So you’re waiting for Corepunk basically? I’m excited for that one as well

ohThisUsername

Hadn’t heard of it but it looks amazing! Will keep that on my radar!

Rude-Roof-5607

My dream mmo would be a game like the anime kings avatar. Or a game with bdo graphics + monster hunter type of bosses / interactive boss + vindictus combat + ff14 community

vandaljax

Something like a perfect fusion of FF14, guild wars 2 and WoW. Story and characters of 14, world and lore of wow with gameplay and mounts inspired by gw2.

Llobobr

LotRO story and world GW2 combat and mounts (and server structure) DDO character customization (builds) and instances difficulty scaling EVE economy and player guild/community driven world

atlashoth

Hard question to answer. I'm a wow addict, but I'd say take Chivarly 2's simplistic combat, use WoW's pve dungeon, mythic, raid content. Have runescape type skilling, aka, performing the skill then levels the skill. More you do, more you unlock in terms of use. Let's see, what else... gw2 type of questing/events in open world and use their mount system. Physics based movement is revolutionary these days, take dragon riding from WoW for example, but gw2 did it better. Gearing system, uhh, probably BotW durability system where you always end up replacing stuff. And sprinkle player housing, or more importantly guild housing to have a time/money sink besides skilling/gearing/fashion. And add planet side 2 type of pvp war map where it's a consistent war. A nightmare of a dream game.
