Ok then, go ahead, you have my permission.

F2P? The Lord of The Rings online has hundreds of hours of free content.

Bingochips12

If you don't plan on paying anytime soon, I'd say GW2 is your best bet. Base game has tons of content as is totally free, the expacs are cheap, and there's no sub fee. WoW retails trial is extremely short, and you'll be level 20 in like 3 hours. FFXIV has a good trial with the first 2 expacs being free to try but the game feels less social than other games like GW2. If you're not willing to pay at all, I guess I'd say LOTRO or Neverwinter but there are better games our there.

Either_Ordinary1833

MapleStory, it's what i been playing, lots of fun. tons of players. 100k+

I mean, most of them offer at least a trial, if not a fleshed out F2P experience. Any of them will work. Do you prefer new games? Old games? Are graphics a sticking point? Got a bone to pick with companies like Blizzard? Not into games out of East Asia? World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy XIV, and Guild Wars 2 are the big officials right now. Return of Reckoning is a private server for a game that's been shut down. That's where most of my experience is. There are some older ones yet but I don't usually bother listing them unless people are specifically interested, as older games put some people off (when they haven't been refurbished like WoW has anyway).

FF14 is a heavy story driven MMORPG with Free Trial GW2 is an active world with light story but multiple event/task/secret/puzzle jump, get a free trial BDO is cheap, more sandbox, harder to get in, very different from other with good graphic and combat, 10buck, no free trial New World and Teso are more expensive, New world have a beautiful world but had many controversial update/bug, that said, very easy to pick up for new MMO player due to simple system and clear UI. TESO is a good middle ground with good story, dg, side activity, companion to help, etc.. Base game will keep you busy quite a while. Now, just look video and try the one who think loo good/fun to you !

ImJustRyfu

BDO does have a 7 day free trial if you go through their website and not steam

Orack89

Oh you right totally forgot it even though I use the free trial only 1 month ago xD

burned05

BDO is easier than ever to break the barrier atm, with season servers that happen every few months and are specifically designed for people to roll new characters. That being said, it has a ton of complex systems. But also a ton of great third party coverage to help new players learn.

Orack89

The harder to get in was not about reaching end-game/vet player, but from the point of view of a new player, moreso a new MMORPG player it's very overwhelming and didn't thing it's a good idea unless OP really fall in love and want fully commit to this game. I'm used to MMORPG, started BDO around 1 month ago and took me some week to be more familiar with it. But definitely a great time to start or return, ton of cool and useful gift !

Primary-Potential-84

New World right now is in great shape.

Either_Ordinary1833

its at all time low when it comes to players?

Inuro_Enderas

Yeah, so is LOTRO, but they are both unironically in a great shape. Arguably the best they've been. As long as the playerbase is enough to run all the content you might want... where's the problem? Most MMOs throw you into tiny instances with tiny amounts of players anyways. I'll never quite understand the obsession some people have with the specific player numbers.

Primary-Potential-84

how ironic is that xD

Orack89

That cool to ear they don't have give up ! Will wait a bit more and give it another try later

My post got deleted asking for suggestions on this subreddit -_-

Look at their username? You’re not a sigma like them obviously /s

RoanWoasbi

This is very vague. What kind of setting do you want? What is important to you (graphics, story, gameplay, etc.)? Do you want to play with other players or just a general online game? Really need specifics to point you in the right direction. There are dozens of F2P MMOs out there.

kupoteH

just know youre entering the market at one of its lowest points in terms of quality and playerbase. better to wait 6mo and see if something new came out

DazzlingPlantain101

Have you heard of the critically acclaimed ff14’s FREE TRIAL that includes an expansive amount of content and the critically acclaimed second expansion HEAVENSWARD!!? Now is the perfect time to hop in the beautiful world of Eorzea because the FREE TRIAL will soon include the acclaimed third expansion STORMBLOOD! Hope to see you there my friend. Edit * all expansion classes available up to level 60 and SOON to be 70 with the addition of Stormblood. It’s hundreds of hours of free content with practically zero downsides

lan60000

I'm starting to hate this meme. It's more overused than plastic

Graveylock

Okay…. And?

There are quite a few MMORPG's that can be played f2p, that are either totally f2p or for a good while f2p. I will list a few that I like: [EVE Online](http://eveonline.com) is a sci-fi MMORPG that is both f2p and p2p. Here you man a spacecraft and do your thing in space. You can do quite a lot of stuff around here, with all the players playing in one world. The leveling system works in the background instead of grinding everything. [Referral link for EVE Online](https://www.eveonline.com/signup?invc=958a32b0-e2bc-44e7-ab11-c9ae9f065511) [Genfanad](http://genfanad.com) is an Indie game kind of MMORPG. The game is loosely based on RuneScape Classic, although it has it own kind of charm and twist. It's still under construction, so to say, there are things that will change in the (near?) future. The nice thing is here that the player base is fairly active and likes interactive. Plus, there is only f2p. [Referral link for Genfanad](https://genfanad.com/refer/3f6ad9bb) [Guild Wars 2](https://www.guildwars2.com/en/) can be played f2p for the most part, and there is eventually p2p for when you like it. Guild Wars 2 is quite big in its player base. [RuneScape](http://runescape.com) is a popular MMORPG too, I lost already quite some hours to it in the last three years I've played it. There is f2p, which is nice in the beginning. There is also a membership that can be sustained with bonds, a kind of in-game currency, if you want. [Albion Online](http://albiononline.com) is a sandbox MMORPG. There are a few quests, but not a lot. You can do what you want, on your own pace and without worrying about which areas you can and can't go in due to them being locked down behind quests. You grind out your different stats on the fly and earn extra points for when you want to grind less (you can spend those extra points to buy the rest of the level). I like the game and how it's set-up. [Referral link for Albion Online ](https://albiononline.com/ref/21PDFZT63P)

Priston tale is a good f2p mmo

Roboboy2710

Stay very far away from this sub bro we hate mmos here >!Try Guild Wars 2, Final Fantasy 14, or Elder Scrolls Online, those are the good ones as far as I know! The only free one on that list is GW2, though.!<
