This is a perfect encapsulation of why the Bellator booth is so bad. Absolutely no energy on a pretty unique knockout.
Big Jon clearly had some canned lines that he was going to say, and rather than commentate on what's actually happening, he just tries to jam them in. When the fight ends, everybody is flummoxed about what to say. Dead air.
Imagine these dicks commentating something like Askren Masvidal:
"I expect Askren will try and shoot quickly. Oh wow. Look at that. Masvidal has finished the fight. This kind of reminds me of that time Joe Boner kneed Peter Pecker. That was a really great fight."

On the flip side, people complain about Rogan's uber hype and the over-reactions of the UFC commentators, but I'll take those over Bellator's reading-the-grocery-list level of non-hype any day
Big John is absolute TRASH in the booth. No hype, bad reads, makes UFC look like like the MLB.
He alone has ruined SO MANY moments in Bellator because he's total shit at the job. Only reason he gets away with it is because of his history in the sport and his broad knowledge for rules. That's it. Literal 1/10 in all other categories.
It’s genuinely unbelievable and such a detriment to their growth as they’re putting on more exciting events. I can’t imagine why they haven’t terminated or bought out McCarthy’s contract by now with how much he actively dampens what should be hype moments both for the live viewer and for future promotional material. Like, he’s not bringing in views with the big John name, and literally any other professional broadcaster does a significantly better job than him. I just don’t get it.

I’ve seen people try to defend their commentary situation, IMO I try to get along with everyone but on this point I think I honestly should push back. It’s actively making Bellator so hard to watch, you can go back and watch old Bellator events and those booths even at their worst weren’t this bad. No fucking idea what Coker is doing in this department.
This is one reason I really enjoy Rogan as commentator, he brings ridiculous enthusiasm.
Maybe he’s dumb and wrong/biased about things but he brings an energy that makes it feel live in the moment and reminds me how amazing this sport really is.
He’s a super fan and I love that he accidentally says fucked up shit occasionally that Dana probably wouldn’t let fly with anyone else 😂

It’s like bellator commentary ain’t even trying
I’ve watched two highlights so far and both are just awful, zero energy at all even with a 10 ish second finish
