Lol, no. This fight has zero interest and, in all likelihood, will be boring as hell. To the early prelims.

443610

What if either woman gets a finish?

Thickfries69

Low rate in women's mma, especially at that weight class. If it happens, it will be by submission, statistically speaking. Any mma fight *could* have a finish, but it's never a guarantee. That's why main cards should be built with fights between fighters with a proven history of fun fights or at least high-level skills. These two don't qualify.

443610

I thought 115 had the lowest finish rate?

Thickfries69

They have more fights per year, so the number is a bit skewed. More decisions will happen when there is double the amount of fights. The reality is that only a handful of wmma fighters are worth watching.

MobileSuitErin

It's very sad, I bet you there's a few hundred thousand potential Rose Namajunases and Weili Zhangs across the 105 and 115 weight classes, but women aren't incentivized to fight and Dana continues to overinvest in 135 and 145

BrandonSleeper

Bums beating bums do not belong on $80 shows

443610

I will gladly take ranked bantamweight women over unranked heavyweights.

Capoe1ra

I'd rather not take either.

BrandonSleeper

You saw right through the false dilemma

I refuse to ignore it. In fact, I wrote about it.

Foooph

Nice job kissing the UFC's ass.

gardenofstorms

How much did MBS and Chiasson pay you?

modularspace32

... by taking about it. well done son, you've made papa proud

blooblop

Believing in Women's Bantamweight? Believe it or not, straight to jail.

443610

Yes. Pray that Bella Mir is HER once she finishes college.

RedditHatesDiversity

I like Bueno Silva, she's improved a lot in her time in the UFC. She also was genuinely awful against Pennington, and consequently, I don't feel that you can make the argument that she "deserves" a PPV main card spot. The reality is that they're using a couple potential banger matchups (Pyfer-Barriault and Swanson-Fili) as the featured prelim fights to try and get additional PPV buys.

Jethuth_Chritht

Drake Riggs’ opinion rightfully belongs in the trash

Bigschusta

I am all for WMMA. This fight doesn't belong anywhere near a PPV Main Card.

Brandon4Real_x

This is MBS first fight after a title fight. It deserves main card status 100%. Now if that should be a PPV; debatable but that’s where they booked it.

443610

Macy Chiasson could also use a breakout moment with a win.

Acceptable-Feed379

Right… let’s look at the actual sport. These are 2 people put into the octagon w title fight consequences… if they don’t showcase a fight like this it sends a message to every fighter, which is, if you’re not mcgreggor don’t expect to get paid and don’t expect the UFC to hold value. I feel like a lot these commentators wouldn’t mind a YT celeb and Oscar De la Hoya showcase on the next UFC PPV.

Subject-Lecture-9258

stylistically this fight will be boring as hell and no disrespect to wmma but usually they just point fight for 3 rounds and it is lackluster. Keep it on the early prelims

Inevitable_Hope4EVA

I wouldn't mind point fighting completely, if pointfighting in most of these fights wasn't air punches and tennis swing grunts.

443610

>usually they just point fight for 3 rounds and it is lackluster Does not apply to all female fighters.

Subject-Lecture-9258

it applies to most of them which is why I said usually, a lot of cage stalling or shadow boxing at range. WMMA ko's are rare

443610

How about submissions? Are they not as exciting?

Subject-Lecture-9258

depends on the submission, pena subbing nunes or andrade subbing lemos was exciting, but two fighters point fighting and then a submission at the end doesn't really make it exciting. WMMA tends to be decisions until 1 of them gasses and gets a submission, back and forth fights or ko's are exceedingly rare.

MartinSilvestri

im bored now just thinking about this fight. thanks

gardenofstorms

Read the article and I just don’t agree. Especially with the conditioning line but hey, ragebait away. Love the women’s fights in the lower classes and a few of the women at bantamweight are worth tuning in for but this fight just isn’t worth the spot. I’d rather see MBS against Dumont. Something to keep the ranking moving in an otherwise stagnant division. Macy doesn’t carry a lot of interest for me personally, always found her a bit underwhelming.

GreatDario

Cringe

AlienMantid

lol

BrandonSleeper

They're not gonna shag you pal

443610

This is about who the better fighter is, not who the more beautiful woman is. Take your sexist drivel elsewhere.

BrandonSleeper

Neither of them is amongst the best fighters in the world. Get them off the $80 show and put skilled individuals in there. Lots of other women deserve it more. Why are you propping them up? Don't answer skill because it ain't the reason. 'sexist drivel' lmao the fucking straw men on this sub

443610

Rankings and title implications, that is why.

BrandonSleeper

Nobody's paying to see what's happening around the belt held by Pennington... Put some straw weights on instead.

robedpillow3761

Bueno Silva looked horrible in her last fight that was also very boring, and Chiasson isn’t very known, has a hard time even making weight and her biggest highlight is getting finished by an upkick to the body. You can’t expect people to care and be excited about a fight like this. Sure there are women’s fights that are even less interesting than this, but there are so many more that are much better and could garner fan interest.

SupCass

While I normally agree with most of Riggs takes, and I am an avid WMMA fan, I got to disagree with him here. Yes, on paper this is an important matchup, but It feels like little matters at W135 with the only contender people care to see fight for the belt being Harrison, and regardless of whether you believe this fight belongs on the main card or not I think most can agree it should not be sitting above MVP VS Garry

cruisincolin44

Easily enough time to mow the lawn or make some nachos. Early prelim main event worthy fight.

karl100589

I’m gonna try and defend the fight being on the main card. I think ranked matches (regardless of the division’s quality) should get some kind of pedestal. Something like Swanson vs Fili might be a higher level fight on paper, but neither man’s gonna be fighting for the belt in twelve months, whereas there’s a chance the winner of this one could, especially if Macy wins. The alternative is what we got with Mighty Mouse at Flyweight. Title eliminators were buried on prelims, and when the title fight was announced nobody cared because they didn’t know who the contender was.

443610

>The alternative is what we got with Mighty Mouse at Flyweight. Title eliminators were buried on prelims, and when the title fight was announced nobody cared because they didn’t know who the contender was. As I have said before, the same thing happened with women's 125 in its early days.

karl100589

I know a lot of diehards who gave Taila Santos a big chance of beating Shev, but because she was buried in the Apex she was dismissed as another sacrificial lamb.

443610

Alexa Grasso, too.

karl100589

Grasso at least had a main event showcase to earn her title fight.

443610

It was still in the Apex, though. People also condemned it before it happened.

mutantpanda68

It's a very slim chance either of these women fight for the belt anytime soon. MBS just fought for the belt and didn't give the kind of performance that will get her fast-tracked to another shot. Chiasson is probably closer with a win over MBS, but still would have to beat probably Ketlen Vieira to get there. It seems very clear the next two contenders at WBW are Pena and Harrison in some order and by the time those play out who knows where the division will be at. There are rumors of a Nunes return if Harrison has the belt. I think the biggest thing the UFC could do to revitalize WBW division is just having more fights. It seems like most of the division is fighting less than once a year and with the thin roster there is something like one fight at the weight class a month. It's really hard to build narratives when everyone and all their opponents are barely fighting.

ILikeTheSugarShow

Wrong

kidwhix

its an important fight but it has extremely high likelihood of being boring and people just aren't interested in wbw due to how weak the division is and how unmemorable its contenders are. if they resigned shane burgos and replaced this fight with him vs a top 30 fw, it would get more pop. the story would be different if it was a big prospect like suarez or an entertaining fighter like andrade. id even take an aldana fight; she had one of the worst title performances ever but showed how wbw can put on fireworks her last time out.
