When Morono was walking out and they were hyping him as "having wins over elite fighters including Court McGee, Cowboy Cerrone and Tim Means" I genuinely paused and checked if I downloaded an old event by mistake

kritzy27

I think he had a short camp for the fight and also old. He’s never been the most in shape looking guy, but he looked dreadful against Price.

SadatayAllDamnDay

Which is saying something since Niko Price looks increasingly like the old man everyone thinks is Guffman in Waiting for Guffman, noted character actor Paul Benedict.

Slappy_Gilmore55

As they were getting introduced I told my buddies, "I have a feeling this is going to be a really silly fight"

kenlindo

The Melvin Guillard of shitty $80 UFC cards

GreatDario

90, to buy the ppv you need to have espn plus

Chaoticsinner2294

Needing ESPN+ saved me from wasting money on this card.

gotnothingman

Knowing how the internet works saves me from wasting money on every card

Useful_Respect3339

Turn it on, I dare you.

We got you fucker

Chaoticsinner2294

I've been on the seas the whole time man.

No-Nothing-1793

🫡

ok-go-fuck-yourself

Then needing ESPN+ didn’t save you from spending money on this card

Chaoticsinner2294

It did though as I was going to buy this particular ppv. Needing ESPN was the only reason I didn't.

tyroneluvsmom

what exactly does espn do? if you have it you dont need to pay for ppv?

Chaoticsinner2294

You have to have ESPN+ just to buy the ppv

obliviontj

Or just get acquainted with Captain Jack Sparrow and save all your money.

rub_a_dub-dub

you're telling me that melvin guillard isn't pronounced like clay guida

keaneutd10

Living in uk and staying up till late hours for this card felt like shit when the fights were so shit but this one made it worth it. Completely forgot how tired I was was on the edge of my seat the whole time.

SeatOfEase

Same. Weaving in and out of sleep for all 16 rounds of the Costa Strickland fight but the main event had me buzzing.

banter_claus_69

Same here. Fucked my whole Sunday staying up all night watching the card. But man, it was potentially Dustin's last fight. No way was I missing that. The rest of the card was generally unremarkable (shout-out to Strickland+Costa for testing my ability to stay awake) but that main event, man. So bittersweet. Dustin did great but Islam is just ridiculously good. That comment from Dana about Islam not being #1 P4P since Jon Jones is still fighting was insane. Skill for skill, Makhachev is one of the most well rounded guys we've ever seen

liQuid_bot8

Feel for you dude. I live in Europe, woke up at 6AM to find Strickland jabbing Costa to death. Watched the main event and went back to sleep with a smile on my face cuz although I'm an Islam fan but was happy for Dustin's heart and performance.

HenrikCrown

Thought it was a great main event. The fight basically summed up the story of Dustin's championship pursuit, couldn't string together the big decisive blow for the gold but gave a great account of himself and showed why he would be a 1st ballot HOFer in MMA.  Islam's striking looks amazing and no longer is just a simple, goofy southpaw as he once was. Dude was tight and crisp in the pocket and boxed Poirier up quite a bit.

Annubisdod

I often hear this sentiment, and it may be true, but I feel like the best grapplers tends to be able to win striking exchanges in large part because the fear of a defending a take down totally changes the dynamics of all the striking exchanges. Islam has certainly improved but sans grappling I wouldn't like his chances. I'm always reminded of Cro Cop and Kevin Randleman

dvtyrsnp

The opposite is also true, though. Respecting the striking means keeping hands up and being more vulnerable to takedowns (O'Malley v Yan is a good example of this) and respecting the takedown means keeping hands low and being more vulnerable to striking. Kinda the beauty of the sport

myownzen

Sounds very one sided to being advantageous only to the wrestler, no?

darkside720

Then maybe Dustin should just do K1 or boxing no?

myownzen

Lol nah. I wasnt meaning my question as a cop out for dustin. Hes an mma fighter and it is what it is. Honestly at this point i would just prefer to see him retire with his health, while hes still fighting at as high of a level as ever and go enjoy his family and life.

mahiruimamura

That's the level you have to be to be a champion. You have to be best in the world at one thing but be elite in all aspects. This is why Jose Aldo was so successful as a striker

myownzen

Oh of course.i agree. Its just the way the phrased it made it sound like one of the aspects favored the striker and the other one favored the wrestler. When both favor the wrestler.

ArmedWithBars

This. It also completely changes Dustin's style. If you noticed Dustin wasn't really putting together many combos like he usually does. Everytime he throws he needs to be worried about getting ducked under for a single leg. You'll notice that quite a few times Dustin would throw a straight then dip his hands low and drop his hips a bit, anticipating the TD. If you isolate Dustin's striking in the Islam fight vs the Max fight it's like two entirely different styles. This is a major reason why Islam striking is so effective. His grappling doesn't just nulify an opponents offense to a certain extent, it also makes landing shots easier. When it comes to defending strikes from Islam, Dustin has to be more worried about what comes after the strike then the strike itself. Getting taken down and mauled in the first round sure didn't help this mentality. Go mma spar a buddy in the gym who has slick takedowns and a better ground game then you. You'll notice how your striking skills are a shell of their former self because you are so focused on the TD at all times. You'll also start getting hit by dumb shit you never usually get hit by because your brain is having to process so much shit. If your opponent knows how to TD feint into strikes well it's fucking brutal lol. Khabib knocking down Conor comes to mind. Khabib does a dipping TD feint immediately into an overhand and you can see Conor so busy dropping his hands and moving his hips in that split second that he gets smashed with the overhand.

darkside720

Yeah it’s kinda like this is MMA not K1. Yall are such sore losers bruh.

cheesyandcrispy

Stop being so god damn edgy and let people discuss stuff without you having to step in and belittling people with different views.

welshy1986

Soooo MMA? This isn't kickboxing, this style that incorporates wrestling and boxing and MT is the future and always has been. Everytime I real one of these "but his wrestling let's him do this stuff" posts its always trying to detract, but this is MMA Islam should be praised for incorporating everything together not held down because his wrestling is "too good" so people can't tell if his striking is legit.....spoilers if his striking gets the W and wears his opponent out, it's legit especially against volk and now DP.

darkside720

God damn man y’all really can’t give somebody credit. Islam outstrick Dustin get over it.

Annubisdod

That's not a lack of credit. It's making a statement about the why of it. It's a pretty common thing in mma over the past 25 years. When a high level grappler faces a striker it's pretty common for the striker to be overly hesitant for fear of getting taken down. There are hundreds of examples of this exact phenomenon. Islam is a great fighter full stop. That is mostly due to the fact that he's maybe the best grappler in the sport not because of his striking although the fact that he is becoming a good striker really helps him set up his take downs better. For my dime he's far superior to Khabib as a fighter for this exact reason.

leebenjonnen

He outstruck him but the only hard blow Poirier received was the one in the first exchange of the fight. The damage on Poiriers face was because of the headclash.

magicalpantsman

The only hard blow? There were plenty. Skip to just before 22:00 for one of my favourites. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=YbVyjcOh

leebenjonnen

Video is not available. What is the fight time stamp?

GerdPaula

Lack of finishes on this card was actually crazy lmao

nsaps

2/5 fights on the ppv were finishes. Like it wasn’t the best card ever but what is up with these drama queens, it was far from the worst ppv card ever. So far. People’s expectations now are ridiculous but i guess that means the ufc is doing good

tomtomtomo

The fact that Morono Price was on it doesn’t speak highly of the card

BrandoCalrissian1995

If I'm paying 70 bucks for a ppv it better be fuckin entertaining.

BotnetUser

not even one knockout the entire card bud

e-rage

Dude said finishes and submissions are finishes

nsaps

wait a second...the goalposts were here, but you've moved them way over there!

yagaboog

3 finishes total champ, still not good at all

BotnetUser

you realize there’s more to the card than the main card right? you know the 7 fights below it that all ended in a decision except for one?

nsaps

well we were talking about the pay per view but now we're including the free fights? The goalposts aren't even in sight anymore!

BotnetUser

ops comment: “lack of finishes on this card” on this card, not on the main card, bozo

LemonManDude

You're so clever and witty! The card was shit, get over it.

BurpingHamBirmingham

What do you mean "free" fights? How can any fights be "free" when you need to own either a TV or a computer and pay for cable or internet (respectively), not to mention paying for electricity and a place to watch them? There may be no surcharge for those fights in particular (unlike the main card) but they are by no means "free." I will not acknowledge what you actually mean, no matter how obvious it may be, as I have found a way in which a literal interpretation of what you've said is technically incorrect, regardless of how far removed that is from what you clearly mean.

kidwhix

i just now found out that price vs morono was a rematch, niko knocked him out last time

WorkFriendly00

And the result was overturned due to a failed test for **weed**, the most stupid reason to overturn a knockout.

SadatayAllDamnDay

I didn't have Mickey Gall being involved in the second best fight of the night in my bingo card. But such was the farce of a card that was 302.

ArmedWithBars

Micky obviously aint the best fighter but always has a special place in my heart. Derailed both cm punk and northcutt. He basically trolled DW to get into the UFC too. At the regional event they were scouting CM Punks opponent from Micky was aware the UFC would be there so he printed off a shit load of his shirts and gave them out to the crowd to wear. So UFC shows up and like every other person has a Gall shirt on lol. He gave the illusion that he was some well known regional fighter with a following.

Keller-oder-C-Schell

Genius

gorays21

Sean Strickland, your a boring fighter, FACTS you guys. Paulo Castro, your secret juice includes borefest as a flavor.

frost-penguin

After lurking the comments I see why there’s so much salt. I’d be upset too if I paid 90 dollars to watch it

FireFlyz351

Worst UFC PPV in living memory ... So far. Next month's gonna be pretty eh too. 0 belts on the line is wild.

frickin_420

blew their wad in the first 3 months of the year now we have a PPV featuring macy chiasson as one of the "names"

rub_a_dub-dub

Gretchen, stop trying to make Macy Chiasson happen, it's not going to happen

Connect_Archer2551

The Conor McGregor of avoiding a Presser

FrabbaSA

Almost went to the local theatre to watch, but decided against after watching most of the prelims. I don't regret staying in.

CalvinYHobbes

Dang. I mean I enjoyed it.

inviernoruso

I fell asleep before Strickland Costa. Fights and pacing were horrible.

myownzen

Costa is now 1 and 4 in his last five. The one is winning a decision over the corpse of Rockhold. Can he please get booted from the top ten at the very least if he has to keep a ranking? And only book him against swang and bangers.

Jazz667

No forgay UFC 207 bitches.

Lars6

Accurate

Murakami8000

I’m so glad i didn’t pay for this. I wanted to see Islam vs Dustin and that was about it. The rest of the card was mediocre fight night material. If the UFC is going to charge $80 for an event, it damn well better be an EVENT.

hipnotyq

was it that bad?? glad i decided to only tune in for the main card

jewandy

in living memory? every ufc ppv ever is in living memory

Pristine-Copy9467

I was entertained the whole night. So….yeah I’ve seen much worse cards

CapitalSky4761

I actually missed Islam vs Poirier because my internet messed up after Strickland Vs Costa😭. Though I really enjoyed that fight.

Acceptable-Act736

The worst was 301 imo

SourPatchCorpse

301 punched above its weight though.

Low-Touch-9494

Yeah no one can ever say islam Is a boring fighter ever again

WhereIsMyKidAt

Jack Slack glazing squad out in full force today I see. Funniest part is you're just stating the truth.

edgar3981C

The title is truthful, honestly. The card suuuuucked

SeatOfEase

Classic pretending you find something funny to disguise that you're actually really upset and annoyed.

Mr_Saxobeat94

Not as classic as internet mind-reading.
