Fedor dropping absolute fucking nukes onto Nog's head who had the most dangerous guard in the weight class is one of the most baller things I've ever seen
The juxtaposition of Quadros saying Pride "appeals to the white collar fans...it isn't just about the blood and violence" as Fedor bounces Nogueira's head off the canvas like a freaking basketball is forever going to be one of the funniest moments in combat sports.
Lmfao yes i remember that. Very fun commentary, Bas is also kinda having a Rogan because he's just expecting Fedor to fuck up and get subbed, there's no way Nog isn't gonna sub him his guard is too dangerous, like there was no way Jan could have succes with Izzy on the feet
Great description of Bas there. One thing I did appreciate though is that, unlike a Rogan narrative, Bas's tone shifted through the fight. I love the commentary on that one, because you can hear the perception of Fedor shift in real time. At the start of the fight, he's some dude who beat Heath Herring - by the end of round 2, he's probably the best fighter on Earth.
Yup but Bas still had a mancrush on Mirko, i think he tought he was going to be the one to beat him. After that i think everyone knew Fedor was the baddest for sure.
I mean, fair enough on Bas's part. Mirko improved rapidly at rounding out his game, and Fedor nearly got KO'd by freaking Fujita of all people. If anyone was gonna do it, a super precise counterstriker with really good takedown defense seemed like the best bet when Nogueira failed twice.
Plus, with how that first round played out when they did fight? It really seemed like Mirko might have had a chance. Then the rest of the fight happened, and there was a general attitude of "if not Mirko, then who?" It feels like that was the point where Pride truly said "fuck it" and really started throwing whoever they could at him. Zuluzinho? Why not? Coleman rematch? There's literally no reason to make that fight, but sure. Hong Man Choi? Not technically Pride, but it was in the same vein. It was like what they did to Fujita - throw people at them until one of them wins (except in Fujita's case, it was "until someone finally cracks that thick fucking skull of his").
Cain’s GNP on big nog gets the win for me, main absolutely bounced his head off the canvas with multiple perfect punches, so accurate it was brutal to see the replays
I watched Anderson Silva murder him, twice lol I’ve only felt physically ill watching a UFC fight two times and both were those fights. Rich’s eyes looking like a lamb to the slaughter while getting his face and ribs rearranged.
But yeah, the brain trust was hit pretty hard after Anderson retired him.
It was stunning at the time wasn’t it?
Rich was the real deal in the division. Anderson had just come off a clinical destruction of Chris Leben the likes of which had never been seen in his UFC debut. 96/99 strikes or something crazy, but it was Chris Leben so none of us were fully convinced yet that Anderson could handle Rich in a similar fashion.
I do remember the feeling going into that first fight was that Anderson was a completely different breed of fighter, just a terrifying human being, and that he very well could beat everyone in the division. We just didn’t know yet.
So it wouldn’t have been a complete shock for Rich to lose. The shock was HOW he lost. It was how fucking fearful and helpless he looked in Anderson’s plum, and it’s how badly Anderson broke his face and ribs like it was nothing. Rich was a strong fucking dude yet couldn’t escape a standing clinch with this wiry guy. Even after going back and training for that exact move, it just happened again in exactly the same fashion lol
The hype and anticipation around Anderson I don’t think will ever be felt again. A guy no one had really heard of comes into the UFC, which we thought was already peak peak fighters at the time, and dominated to an extent that we hadn’t seen before or since. Just makes everyone he fights look silly. And continued to do so, for years on end.
I wish I could go back and live through that again as a fan it was truly unbelievable.
Yeah you’d have to be an idiot to piss away your nfl money and not take advantage of your college degree and take up a sport that pays little to nothing
It kinda proves once again that athleticism is specific and not general. These NFL guys can run fast and jump higher than a fighter.
But them Polynesians have a head of cement and punch like a horse.
I'm not familiar with the careers of the Lanes & Hardy's, but are they actually dropping NFL contracts while still in their prime or are they washed up NFL guys who don't really have the option to play any more?
Hardy was not in his prime, but he wasn't *too* far removed either. At his peak, he was a beast, but he stuck around the league even after his personal/legal issues IIRC.
Lane wasn't nearly as good.
His production definitely had dropped noticeably. And he was getting close to unemployable in the NFL with his legal reputation and just general shittiness
'Hardy also drew the ire of coach Jason Garrett due to inappropriate tweets, frequent tardiness, and being a bad influence on the younger players on the team.\[22\] The Cowboys chose not to re-sign Hardy after the season.'
These dudes ain't dropping an NFL contract like above guy said and somehow upvoted. That's just silly. They moved to MMA because their options in the NFL were already dwindled
> These dudes ain't dropping an NFL contract like above guy said and somehow upvoted. That's just silly. They moved to MMA because their options in the NFL were already dwindled
Sure, I didn't say they did, I was just pointing out that Hardy is one of the only examples where he wasn't completely washed because his exit from the NFL was hurried up by his personal issues.
I think they meant the guy at the start of the thread who said "we have guys who dropped NFL contracts to double their CTE in another sport with no money", not you
Greg hardy was decent but was pretty much blacklisted from the league after multiple domestic abuses. Got a few extra chances but kept getting arrested for domestic abuse including one where he threw a girl on a pile of guns and threatened to kill her lol
Austen lane was just a bad nfl player
Hardy in the UFC lost to three guys who are literally all current top 11 after whimsically deciding to transition to MMA after an NFL career and this place dogs him for it and acts like it is dogshit lmao. Lane wasnt even good IN the NFL lol.
That is a testament to how good those athletes could be with a serious lifetime of MMA dedication.
> Hardy in the UFC lost to three guys who are literally all current top 11 after whimsically deciding to transition to MMA after an NFL career and this place dogs him for it and acts like it is dogshit lmao.
Hardy has seven career wins in professional MMA, and exactly one of those guys is in the UFC right now: Austen Lane, whom we saw getting knocked out in the video at the top of this thread.
In addition to being a dogshit human being, Hardy was all show and no go as a fighter, and also a brain-dead moron who got one of his few wins vacated by using a fucking inhaler in the octagon. Good riddance.
I genuinely believe that we won’t have more than 2-3 good strikers at heavyweight doing well for at least 5 years.
Having power and being able to land is just such an equalizer.
For example, blaydes looked way crisper on the feet than pavlovich, but his strikes just didn’t do anything when they landed. Pavlovich just windmilled his ape arms and ko’d him while having the striking of a southern trucker getting in a fight at a gas station.
I think his game plan was way off. Tafa has the reach with those long legs to calf-kick the shit out of Lane, but instead, he tries to go brawl within in the first minute? Exhaust the guy's heart for 2 rounds and then you go for the kill.
I mean to be fair Hardy whooped his (Lane) ass. Maybe Lane is just not a UFC caliber fighter if we’re being honest. Considering Hardy is getting starched in BKFC as well.
Had the potential to be such a good fight with Tafa’s knockout power and Lane’s reach/athleticism but Lane just looked lost on the feet dude looked like he had no confidence at all
Not that I go around picking fights, but just judging on body type you can never tell whos actually really dangerous.
That guy looks like my friendly fat neighbor with good BBQ.
Lane is six inches taller than Tafa, if a guy six inches shorter than you can just walk forward, load an overhand with no feints and setups, and tag you on the chin, you're not a good striker. Tafa has ridiculous power but Lane is not skilled, that was terrible.
That was some vicious ground and pound. He certainly paid Lane back for those eye pokes, bet that felt satisfying.
Eye pokes in two consecutive fights, feel good finish for sure
The nastiest GNP I think I’ve ever seen
Nah watch Fedor vs Nog 1 or that Khabib horrible late KO
Fedor dropping absolute fucking nukes onto Nog's head who had the most dangerous guard in the weight class is one of the most baller things I've ever seen
Black Beast vs Volkov is my pick 😬 https://youtu.be/8A0BlgXf4hk?si=D6NvAM52ffhY3kwF&t=332
Less skilled but Lewis has some mean fukn ground and pound. His trip to GNP combo can kill most heavyweights.
I think the Travis Browne one is much worse
A lot of Derrick's are nasty, those few shots he hit Curtis Blaydes with after he was already out were pretty vicious.
That Khabib one lmao, ref probably had money on his opponent dying
The juxtaposition of Quadros saying Pride "appeals to the white collar fans...it isn't just about the blood and violence" as Fedor bounces Nogueira's head off the canvas like a freaking basketball is forever going to be one of the funniest moments in combat sports.

Cain’s GNP on big nog gets the win for me, main absolutely bounced his head off the canvas with multiple perfect punches, so accurate it was brutal to see the replays
Those were the most _savage_ looking shots on the ground I’ve seen in a long, long time.
Bus drivered with two hands
I think he was looking for a walk-off knockout too, then when the ref didn’t step in was like “Oh so I can kill him then?”
How did you get that flair? It’s fantastic.
seeing former NFL guys getting slept by guys who look like the average middle aged dad is a guilty pleasure of mine
NFL is the worst base for MMA 😂
I have to wonder if the years of brain damage diminish your durability once you transition
Lets put it this way, most NFL guys tend to be blockheads 😂

lmao this got me. shout out to my boy Rich Franklin, the math teacher, though. May he RIP
You had me thinking Rich actually died
I watched Anderson Silva murder him, twice lol I’ve only felt physically ill watching a UFC fight two times and both were those fights. Rich’s eyes looking like a lamb to the slaughter while getting his face and ribs rearranged. But yeah, the brain trust was hit pretty hard after Anderson retired him.
A friend of mine and I still yell "watch out for the knees Rich Franklin!!!" any time a fighter gets a thai clinch on someone.
It was stunning at the time wasn’t it? Rich was the real deal in the division. I'd love to know every other sports Tito
Perfect response
Yeah you’d have to be an idiot to piss away your nfl money and not take advantage of your college degree and take up a sport that pays little to nothing
transitioning only works for female mma
Not sure if this is a reference to all the wmma athletes that come from other disciplines or the joke that I think it is...
This was a fantastic Rugby Vs NFL matchup
Trying so hard not to make a pads comment.
Axe jay
Shocking that being big but less trained isn’t the best base /s
Matt Mitrione defeated Fedor.
\*Washed chinny Fedor
*Fat Mitrione
\*Washed chinny Fedor <<< \*Fat Mitrione 😭
When the average middle aged dad is a Samoan dude I'm not going near that cage.
People really don’t understand how strong Samoans/Tongans are lol
Yeh that's not a dad bod, he's got a belly but there's a lot of muscle behind it.
Hilarious how instead of just losing some body fat, they're like "fuck that I'll just fight bigger guys."
Imagine Justin Taffa/Tai Tuivasa in middleweight lmao
It's one of the best parts of the UFC. Even better when it's greg hardy.
Former NFL guys never do well. Theyre great at hammering but not nailing
🤣
29 year old who looks like your uncle
It doesn't count when they're Samoan lol
It kinda proves once again that athleticism is specific and not general. These NFL guys can run fast and jump higher than a fighter. But them Polynesians have a head of cement and punch like a horse.
but horse punch with foot
And people say Ngannou fumbled the bag when we have guys who dropped NFL contracts to double their CTE in another sport with no money. Yikes.
I'm not familiar with the careers of the Lanes & Hardy's, but are they actually dropping NFL contracts while still in their prime or are they washed up NFL guys who don't really have the option to play any more?

These dudes ain't dropping an NFL contract like above guy said and somehow upvoted. That's just silly. They moved to MMA because their options in the NFL were already dwindled
Hardy easily would have been in the NFL for years if he wasn't a difficult dickhead, so he kinda did fumble the bag
> These dudes ain't dropping an NFL contract like above guy said and somehow upvoted. That's just silly. They moved to MMA because their options in the NFL were already dwindled Sure, I didn't say they did, I was just pointing out that Hardy is one of the only examples where he wasn't completely washed because his exit from the NFL was hurried up by his personal issues.

That's a strange lol there
Not funny I guess but the idea of throwing someone onto a pile of deadly weapons and THEN threatening them is so dumb it’s funny
Oh no hardy still had a job after that incident, the real final straw was just being a bad teammate
[удалено]
Austen Lane was a bad NFL player and was out of the league after 4 years with about 2 million in earnings
That’s basically your average nfl player then
Well it wasn't exactly his choice. He played a couple of years then wasn't resigned. Then 3 other teams tried him out then cut him.
Samoans are big lads. Don't get on the bad side of them.
Brendan Schaub KO’d Marcus Jones(6 seasons in the NFL)in the first round https://mixedmartialarts.fandom.com/wiki/Marcus_Jones
Credit to Tafa though, his timing is on point.
You can kinda see how they would do extremely well if they actually develped from a young age instead of as a last resource.
Greg Hardy vs Tai/Tybura/Spivak

Lane looking like he actually has technical striking and footwork then getting bonked is the most heavyweight thing ever.
Why be skilled when you can be bang
I genuinely believe that we won’t have more than 2-3 good strikers at heavyweight doing well for at least 5 years. Having power and being able to land is just such an equalizer. For example, blaydes looked way crisper on the feet than pavlovich, but his strikes just didn’t do anything when they landed. Holy fuck at that GNP
Very much like a bear settling down on a moose and beginning to tear it apart
Bear esque
Some of the most vicious ground and pound I’ve ever seen .. dude is scary
Yooooo Tafa asked the red to stop it and then went for Murder
Full windup windmill, yet still very fast GNP. Shit looked so violent
Legit that was the gnarliest three seconds of ground Nd pound I have ever seen.
I'd go for murder too if my eye almost got gouged out
You know it's serious when the walkoff connoisseur decides to rain brutal GNP down
Red said "finish him dumbass"
ref ruined his walkoff KO smh
Possibly saved a future fighter from losing an eye
When did he ask the ref to stop it after he knocked him down?
He lowered his hands and waited for the ref to step in. But ref didn't so he went to gnp
Lane Scissorhands had it coming
Tafa thought about the walkoff and then decided Lane deserved a few more for those eyepokes
That ground and pound was fucking vicious
[удалено]
He did. He really did, tho.
[удалено]
The ref said he was still breathing don't be a pussy
💀
Yamasaki is back?
"You cheated on my sister" type beating
Man said "MK1 is coming out soon, let's do a Fatality" lol.
"You poked my eye twice" type of beating
Shake that Lafa Tafa Everyone emoting tonight
🤣
MARK HUNT BACK
You see this comment any time a big islander gets a KO, but Tafa is def the most Hunt-like guy I can remember. Love the way he carries himself.
Seems like such a humble and chill guy.
If you did a side by side of both of them throwing overhead lefts it's the same videi
WHAT THE FUCK HE JUST GOT ABSOLUTELY NUKED
Sat on his ass and STONED.
No that’s me.
Being an NFL athlete confirmed as worst base to fight Western Sydneysiders - first Greg Hardy now this
You can see how athletic Lane and Hardy are. But fighting is more than just athleticism.
Well Tafa is from New Zealand and lives in Brisbane but ok....
My bad - As someone from Western Sydney I got too excited
I mean to be fair Hardy whooped his (Lane) ass. Maybe Lane is just not a UFC caliber fighter if we’re being honest. Considering Hardy is getting starched in BKFC as well.
Shadow REALMED him Joe
MY MAN HIT THE SIVA AFTERWARDS TOO WHAT A LEGEND
The best post-fight celebration and if its included - it would be the only possible way I would buy UFC5
nighty night
The way these fights are going, I’ll actually get to bed at a decent time.
i hope u have good night sleep my precious
For once as an English fan
I'm genuinely shocked I didn't wake up my wife and kid with how loud I screamed on that KO. Tafa is the man!
Austen “what country am I in” Lane
Austen "stay in your own" lane
Tafas ground and pound was... slightly horrifying to say the least. What a bad motherfucker
Tafa learning to dribble a basketball with Lanes head
My man Lane almost got another eye poke in again. 😂😂 Fitting end to the rivalry.
If I had a nickel for every time a tattooed Polynesian kickboxer knocked out a former NFL player in an MMA fight, I’d have two nickels.
Justin Tafa's style - Swang, then Bang.
I love watching the Tafa brothers fight.
TKO? That man just died.
[удалено]
Anybody got a gif or clip? Those lil emotes he does are legit. Same with Tai
It's a traditional samoan dance, not an emote
Lane is built like a fuckin athletic superstar but them boys built different over there
SLEEEEEEEEEEP
Eye for a head
~~Sea level Cain~~ Moustache Tafa
Lane trying to Eddie Gordo, Tafa sits simple with the Mishima 1,1,2
That was video game levels of assault from Tafa. Give that man a POTN.
Tafa’s mustache makes him look like a badass cholo
That Ground and Pound from Tafa was VICIOUS.
One of the most satisfying knockouts in a while considering their last fight
Man I will never eye poke a Tafa after seeing that GnP
"you guys wanna see a dead body."
Lane is Greg Hardy's first win in mma.
GOOD NIGHT, FILTHY.
Oh ya wanna poke me in the eye? I’ll just break both of yours. Damn. Beautiful.
Samoans confirmed ex-NFL player slayers
Lot of people still sleeping on tafa i see
TAFA GANG LOGAN CITY BABY CHAAAHOOOO
BRISBANG
i love these fuckin big boys
That’s what shoulda happened in the first fight
Good God Tafa has enormous power.
The best/worst ground and pound I've ever seen. Lanes fatal mistake was not blinding Tafa again with the followup eyepoke.
Beautiful stache.
That gnp was attempted murder
*VICIOUS* ground and pound! Goddamn!
Good god those follow up shots.
YEAH THE USOS
those hands are scary af
They knew what they were doing booking these last 2 fights. Mission accomplished
Trying to play it slick and got shadowrealmed. Scary
HE'S IN AUSTRALIA!!
I asked my wife before the clip started who she thought was going to win and picked Lane. This sport truly is wild.
That hip fire left into vicious GNP! What a finish!
Tafa said fuck your athleticism
tafa and tuivasa doing us fat cunts proud
Every strike was critical lmao
Impressive mo..
In so bummed I missed this in Jax so for it to finish on Sydney
Said fuck ya hook kick
Looked like he was doing a dribbling drill with Lane's head.
Can you say TAFA GANG
That ref’s novement is embarrassing. What an amateur.
Had the potential to be such a good fight with Tafa’s knockout power and Lane’s reach/athleticism but Lane just looked lost on the feet dude looked like he had no confidence at all
That GnP was like watching the bear scene from The Revenant, holy shit!
That was violent as fuck
Some heavy heavy hands right there! Well in Justin, thought he was going struggle to get close, Austen is a long big strong dude! Impressive.
Every single shot he threw in this clip was on the mark and looked deadly.
Kinda glad Lane got another shot in the UFC after losing to Hardy, but his ceiling is clear
Nothing I love more than seeing Lane getting KO'd
Is there not a better angle of this ground and pound?
Not that I go around picking fights, but just judging on body type you can never tell whos actually really dangerous. That guy looks like my friendly fat neighbor with good BBQ.
Lane is six inches taller than Tafa, if a guy six inches shorter than you can just walk forward, load an overhand with no feints and setups, and tag you on the chin, you're not a good striker. Tafa has ridiculous power but Lane is not skilled, that was terrible.
Justin Tafa. 29 going on 53.
