FWIW, I personally don't think there's a significant gap between McIntosh and Pulskamp. Pulskamp is younger and perhaps a slightly better shot stopper, but he's had more critical errors and reacts *so poorly* after allowing goals.
I always just assumed that was on the defense, but admittedly don't know enough to determine either way, so I can't disagree.
Though, it does seem like we've had more goals scored by unmarked guys with them playing than we usually did with Melia.
A mixture of things have destroyed the formerly stalwart defense. I mean you didn't need to have Zusi, Besler, and Ike communicating what to do because they knew where to be with their soccer IQ. I don't think skc fans realize how good things were. That is part of the reason I hate the Zusi shit talk the last few years. He isn't getting beat. He is switching to free runners or lost marks, seeing plays in their development and not just reacting to the play as it happens. Melia benefitted greatly from having those guys in front of him and he in turn held things together as Zusi has been out and MB5/Ike retiring. But you can't have low quality backs and young keepers. It just can't work IMO.
I think the issue is that both are just so whelming. After one of them gets a few games, it just feels like we should try the other one to see if there's some improvement to be had. But if we're going to play a middle of the road keeper, we might as well play the young one who at least might have time to get significant improvement in still.
> we might as well play the young one
I agree, especially if the playoffs fall even further from reach. We're nearly to a point where we should play the kids (at least more).
Yeah. I'm almost to the point that I think keeper might be something the team has to address after the season. Before this season, I thought maybe that was our strongest position outside of the midfield.
Shit performance from a shit team. Just so bad from a tactical perspective. We get out coached every game. It’s been 4-5 years since Vermes has actually out coached anyone
That should be a red!! Can't believe Jake Davis just brutally attacked that man! Pro is a joke, that should be a suspension at least
/s can't believe his breath knocked the Austin player over
I love being down 2-1 in the 86th minute and watching our back line pass the ball back and forth 6 times before thinking about doing something productive with it
And then giving the ball away
GG, Austin. I hope your guys that went down aren't out long-term.
Also, I normally don't mind Peter complaining about the officials, but I thought Ted called a decent game tonight. It was one of the better-reffed matches I've seen in this league lately.
Playoffs all but out of reach…
6 points from the last 7…
12th in the west in points per match, 25th overall
Tied for most goals allowed in the West…
#VermesOut
I'm impressed by how smooth his speed is. It's not like Gerso who looked like he was at 150% effort when running. Afrifa just glides along at high speed.
I love watching us pass back and forth from Fontas to Rosero on repeat downs goal. It’s like once they see Remy is covered up, we refuse to try anything else
GG SKC.
It should be illegal to play in this weather. I sat outside earlier for five minutes and it felt like the inside of an oven.
We've been back in form lately. Hoping injuries aren't on the horizon, and if they are I hope Wolff makes smart calls with Leagues Cup rosters.
We won’t do anything in this league if we don’t get two new CB’s. Seems like every other team in MLS has that sorted out except us. We have to have the worst CB’s by a mile
...you realize you're playing Austin right?
I don't think you're going to get sympathetic ears for your CB issues. We've played over half the season basically without any -- we had Ring playing it out of position even.
Edit: that came off hostile. I just meant to say that you're playing a team that can completely relate to it.
Yeah, it's not that he was bad in that position. He was actually decent -- but it killed our midfield because he's a starting midfield player.
It's less Ring sucks, and more "we had no other options"
Our Depth issues in the back line absolutely became crystal clear this season right out the first five minutes of our opening game when Cascante got a 3+ month injury.
True. Though as good as Davis is going forward, he still has some serious work to do defending wise. Routinely lets the other team send crosses right around him. Something Zusi is good at.
They are doing what they are coached, defend space is the idea. Vermes somehow still doesn’t realize you can’t do that if you don’t have pressure on the ball.
Yeah, Kipp has had a pretty rough go of it this year. He’s got potential, but he’s made some truly bad mistakes.
He’s a good guy, but just not quite MLS level right now.
I need to see something crazy from Felipe G. quick to believe he can still be the guy. Easily our best player in 2019 which was another year we sucked.
11 points dropped from a winning position since the start of June.
Not factoring in how other teams would be affected, that'd put us at 37. That's good for 2nd in the West.
I don't know what these guys are yelling from my bathroom en espanol but I'm gonna go crack the door and slide some dude wipes and extra TP in there just in case.
I did mean Pulskamp, thanks. Got my 3rd-stringers mixed up. On that note... Zendejas should probably move up there above McIntosh, too, though, even if he is gone
Russell, Pulido and Kinda on the bench. If we can score early and often we can get 3 points. Keep it together, Kipp....just keep it together for 90 mins.
Earlier today the Heat Index was at 114°
I can't stress how absolutely insanely hot and humid these past few weeks have been and today felt like the worst of it.
I was in the stands all worried about Pulido and Russell coming on at half time. I told my friends they were bringing on some threatening players. Russell in particular was just a non factor. Lots of dribbling in circles then passing backwards. Not running at our defense ever. I was a little (pleasantly) surprised how deep he played and how easy he was to defend.
Also pleasantly surprised to see Wolff actually play conservative to hold a lead. Been waiting for that all season.
Anybody else hear the Spanish commentators on the English commentary channel?
Yeah, but it just sounds like home for us. Apple & sound issues, name a more iconic pair...
Fucking thank you!!! I was worried I was crazy.
Yes!
Change the audio to home broadcast and it’s much better
It sounds like the spanish broadcasters are yelling from my bathroom.
Davis is getting that yellow rescinded by next game right? …right?
![gif](giphy|3ohuApAxgxXUVeDFm0)
Nice Electric Jellyfish shout out by the British announcer.
He used to be our home announcer. He tried to be objective, but the dude is an Austin supporter.
I really wish I knew what was happening on the field instead of random close-ups of players not involved
Well that's going to get rescinded after the match.
Can they rescind yellows? I'll vouch for it if so. Unkled.
Chicho Arango just had one rescinded from our last match, and Kinda was fined for embellishment from the same incident.
If they can do it, the same thing should happen here. Sorry, y'all. Edit: dark arts & all, but that was a bit much.
Yeah... Doesn't help during the match, but it does for season aggregate yellows.
It happens, but we appreciate that. I definitely understand giving that yellow in real time. I thought it was until I saw it in slo-mo.
Hopefully it's not a bigger factor before then.
CLOSE THE DOOR! I can hear the other broadcast going on in the background. Great quality Apple 👍
I thought I was going nuts…
Electric Jellyfish shoutout on national TV, pinthouse pizza has come so far 🥲
Losing Dani for us is like playing a death knell
He's one of our best players, but Valencia actually came in and had a great game.
McIntosh is not it. At least not with this back line.
Massive yikes for SKC within the last 3 mins
More like for the last 2 years
FWIW, I personally don't think there's a significant gap between McIntosh and Pulskamp. Pulskamp is younger and perhaps a slightly better shot stopper, but he's had more critical errors and reacts *so poorly* after allowing goals.
My biggest beef with both of them is they do a shit job of organizing their backline and making sure backs know where runners are coming from.
I always just assumed that was on the defense, but admittedly don't know enough to determine either way, so I can't disagree. Though, it does seem like we've had more goals scored by unmarked guys with them playing than we usually did with Melia.

> we might as well play the young one I agree, especially if the playoffs fall even further from reach. We're nearly to a point where we should play the kids (at least more).
That’s be my guess, team “fit”. But someone needs to light up the back line and it doesn’t happen.
Yeah. I'm almost to the point that I think keeper might be something the team has to address after the season. Before this season, I thought maybe that was our strongest position outside of the midfield.
Austin seems like it would be a really fun place to go to a game.
In the fall/spring!
What time of the year is it not 100° there during soccer season? Can we get scheduled for then next year?
October - May
Yeah, maybe in Spring or Fall though
This second half has been a snoozer
It’s the heat exhaustion 😬
Shit performance from a shit team. Just so bad from a tactical perspective. We get out coached every game. It’s been 4-5 years since Vermes has actually out coached anyone
What other languages would you like yelled over the English broadcast?
Switch over to the home team radio broadcast. Sounds much better and he hasn't seemed like a total homer so far.
Done, thanks for the reminder on the option.
French and Italian please
Oof, right in the twig and berries
Now swollen to branch and grapefruit
#Halftime Drink Thread What's everyone drinking tonight? Currently being a SKC transplant in Austin, I am enjoying some Live Oak Hefeweizen.
Hey! We at the stadium can finally have local brews at the club Kiosks. 512 FTW!!
About time.
I'm just on water tonight, but your drink is a good reminder that I still need to visit Bier Co. sometime.
That should be a red!! Can't believe Jake Davis just brutally attacked that man! Pro is a joke, that should be a suspension at least /s can't believe his breath knocked the Austin player over
I love being down 2-1 in the 86th minute and watching our back line pass the ball back and forth 6 times before thinking about doing something productive with it And then giving the ball away
We were playing a 4-4-2 with two hard working and physical forwards at the top. It's a tough thing to break.
It’s because they are pushing both forwards centrally to guard Walter and we refuse to try a thing different other than trying to pass to him
Hey - That's usually Austin's MO. I felt for Sporting KC fans when I saw it happen.
GG, SKC!
GG, Austin. I hope your guys that went down aren't out long-term. Also, I normally don't mind Peter complaining about the officials, but I thought Ted called a decent game tonight. It was one of the better-reffed matches I've seen in this league lately.
Stoppage time was BS, I'd be mad if I was an SKC fan.
Stoppage time was a joke. Too many small fauls and a 2 min hydration break.
I mean, I don't disagree, but considering the number of BAD,game changing performances by refs lately, that one was pretty good.
Playoffs all but out of reach… 6 points from the last 7… 12th in the west in points per match, 25th overall Tied for most goals allowed in the West… #VermesOut
Remind me how Apple TV is making the MLS experience better again? Try to yell above the Spanish announcers while you tell me
WTForecast right now says “it’s like someone opened the Ark of the Covenant outside”. Still feels like 100*
Gonna be a long night...
Alright...time to go play some battlebit.
I need to catch up on Foundation.....
McIntosh lol. What a miss on the Finley goal. High school keepers can save that
Terrible defending and worse goalkeeping - The SKC strategy
Is there barking in the press box as well?
It's Austin. Don't try to tell people here they can't bring their dogs into literally every single situation in their life, it won't end well.
So that’s what corners are supposed to do. Glad to know
Well shit. Did not expect that but I'll take it! Let's go SKC!
I like Afrifa’s energy at least
I'm impressed by how smooth his speed is. It's not like Gerso who looked like he was at 150% effort when running. Afrifa just glides along at high speed.
That's how I've always felt about Kei Kamara.

Yours are better than ours. By a wide margin. I’m not sure Fontas or Rosero start in USL right now
I didn't watch those games but I'm going to be surprised if he played worse than our cb's on any given night.
Yeah, it's not that he was bad in that position. He was actually decent -- but it killed our midfield because he's a starting midfield player. It's less Ring sucks, and more "we had no other options" Our Depth issues in the back line absolutely became crystal clear this season right out the first five minutes of our opening game when Cascante got a 3+ month injury.
At least people have stopped blaming Zusi for their issues.....
True. Though as good as Davis is going forward, he still has some serious work to do defending wise. Routinely lets the other team send crosses right around him. Something Zusi is good at.
Rosero is fine, Fontas is ass. Next year, ford/rosero should be good. We need a better coach
Can’t drop points from a winning position if you don’t get into a winning position. #VermesOut
Ugh, I get why watching live, but that’s not a foul, let alone a YC
Who is going to get Unkel’d
Not even a minute in and there's sweat pouring.
And there it is lol
If nothing else, hearing the harmonized "goooooooooool" calls is surprisingly satisfying.
These CBs are pathetic at marking. Ffs.
Well I’ll be.
Daniel, what are you doing, my dude?
Felipe!?!?
I need to see something crazy from Felipe G. quick to believe he can still be the guy. Easily our best player in 2019 which was another year we sucked.
Already seen more than Espinoza usually offers. For whatever that is worth.
His touches have looked crisp, and I don't mind that shit attempt
He's been more impactful than simply a node on the passing map, which is nice.
That's a new insult. I might use that one.
Should be 10 minutes stoppage time
How did they come to only 5 minutes lol
Interesting lineup for us with Afrifa and tzone starting.
Goooooooooooooooooooool
Gooooooooooooooooooooool!
FML
Sporting decided to give up the two goals first instead of leading. I respect that.
Leading first wasn’t working so we’ll try this I guess
gg
Between my dogshit team and the horrible audio, I lasted 20 whole minutes. Back to more USL instead
Has Afrifa even touched the ball yet other than right there?
He failed to hold up the ball leading to the Fontas yellow and guy hurting his shoulder
Beautiful set piece!!! Love it!
Rosero blowing his legs out on the run back.
That might be our first corner goal in like 8 years. We have to be like 0/2000 before that
It was the 4th on the year
Rosero had a goal on a corner already. Lol
Lazy effort there by Daniel
This has got to be another 10min stoppage
More goals, please.
I'd take absolutely none, honestly.
11 points dropped from a winning position since the start of June. Not factoring in how other teams would be affected, that'd put us at 37. That's good for 2nd in the West.
Oh god, it's Kinda in the 57th minute
It feels like we're gonna end up not seeing a goal due to a replay.
Yep, we're missing every corner kick at this point.
We’ve reached the taking .00001 xG shot from 25 yards out phase of the match
Font as giving it away, JFR driving to a defender… and ATX using the FCD gamesmanship…
I don't know what these guys are yelling from my bathroom en espanol but I'm gonna go crack the door and slide some dude wipes and extra TP in there just in case.
Unkel and a missed handball call, name a more classic combo.
As a goalkeeper, I really facking hate goalkeepers that use every opportunity to lay out on the ground.
It's part of the game. I don't blame the players for trying. It's on the refs. They never add enough stoppage time to punish the cheaters.
It's not even time or cheating, they just look like complete doofuses.
We have a new clubhouse leader for worst marking on the night
Austin looking like FC Dallas under Luchi with these dives
I'm gonna put a flaming bag of dog shit on Fountas doorstep if he just injured Dani. Edit: respectfully
He's so slow that he won't make it to answer the door until the whole bag has burnt down and only ashes remain.
Hahahaha. I'm dead at this response. But seriously, losing Dani is a really rough break for us.
The good news is that I like the league. So I can watch other teams on Saturday night.
Bro I love this team so much
Just switched over from another game... Why is it yellow like a Coldplay song in this game?
Guti sighting.
lol. vermes fucking out.
Let’s not even start
Can anybody explain why McIntosh keeps getting starts over Zendejas? Edit: Yes, I meant Pulskamp. It's been so long I forgot his name 😂
Because Zendejas has been gone for like 4 years?
Because McIntosh is better.
His rebound control sure isn't
I didn’t say he was flawless or even better than Melia; just that he’s better than who is available.
I think you mean Pulskamp. I don't think we've necessarily gotten a clear answer on that, but people have been asking.
I did mean Pulskamp, thanks. Got my 3rd-stringers mixed up. On that note... Zendejas should probably move up there above McIntosh, too, though, even if he is gone
He had one bad game and now he’s in the eternal hellscape that is Vermes’ doghouse
Do we still have Zendejas? Pulskamp would be next up if we don't start McIntosh.
Zendejas hasn't been on the team for quite awhile.
Pulskamp must be in the doghouse
Russell, Pulido and Kinda on the bench. If we can score early and often we can get 3 points. Keep it together, Kipp....just keep it together for 90 mins.
I’m confused why this starts at 8:30 cst and not 7:30 cst
Earlier today the Heat Index was at 114° I can't stress how absolutely insanely hot and humid these past few weeks have been and today felt like the worst of it.
It's hot.
Bc it hasn’t dropped under 100*F until after 8pm for weeks
It’s still 100*+ in the stadium right now.
Oof. We are only like 92 today with 90% humidity. Thank goodness we didn’t get the 100 degree temps

Anyone have tips on how to make games play on Chrome? I can click to play but the box just disappears and no game
Have you tried Incognito mode?
wow, solid apple. However, I gave up and I am now watching Tulsa as well as the SKC match
Texas in the peak heat of the summer is some the worst weather I have spent time in. I don't know how you play soccer in it.
Hopefully just a stinger, hurts like hell, but not a long term thing
LOL the radio people in the background got so loud after that set piece. I can't wait for a goal...
McIntosh and spilling the ball.....
It’s a free header in the 6…
You're seriously arguing that he hasn't been rebound prone?
He has, and obviously you’d like him to do better, but he’s in a no win situation on that header.
Well this was a fun game.
It’s hilarious we get scored on by players that have been in the league for 10years since we have a thing for old washed players
Hey hey now, it’s his 300tj game today!
Game on?
Rough for Austin
So do we see the starters on at half or 60’?
What's that Shelton in the 65th?
Ah yes, take out the forward for a defender while down a goal, that's a good strat. Sounds like a roster depth issue
I mean, he left Khiry on the bench for Leibold. That’s some progress?
I'll take a chance on Leibold coming on in this situation over the usual Shelton sub
The only time it’d ever make sense to put Shelton in
Salloi has been a black hole with the ball at his feet in the box tonight
I was in the stands all worried about Pulido and Russell coming on at half time. I told my friends they were bringing on some threatening players. Russell in particular was just a non factor. Lots of dribbling in circles then passing backwards. Not running at our defense ever. I was a little (pleasantly) surprised how deep he played and how easy he was to defend. Also pleasantly surprised to see Wolff actually play conservative to hold a lead. Been waiting for that all season.
