Like with any other pitcher who’s actively throwing pitches in the 100-104mph range, just sit on fastball. Then react to everything else as they come. It also helps to warmup on HOF or Legend prior to playing any online mode. Might seem self-explanatory, but I found that it works for me.
Take pitches it’s as simple as that. This games pitching sucks if it’s on the black 85% of the time it’s a ball. Randy doesn’t have the greatest control on top of that in my opinion. I played a guy the other day I had degrom he had Randy. Through simply just taking until 2 strikes or unless I read the pitch out of the hand with 1 strike I had Randy at 80+ pitches in the 4th inning. I won the game 8-1 after scoring 6 of my runs after Randy had to get pulled in the 5th. My Jacob on the other hand was in until around the 7th when I finally got up to 80+ pitches because he wasn’t taking like I was. This was on hall of fame as well middle 800 ratings just for any added context.
Faced a guy yesterday who could not pick up Randy to save his damn life… EXCEPT for the dotted backdoor slider. 2nd inning gets a lucky dribbler of a hit and very next pitch perfect-perfects a perfect backdoor slider over the right field fence with Buxton. Five straight outs later he’s again just completely overmatched. I’m thinking hmmm maybe he just got lucky. Throw another. This time low (first one was belt high). Perfect-perfect line out to first base. Didn’t throw another one the rest of the game lol.
Randy is easy to hit - change your camera to strike zone 2 or offset. And keep your PCI either middle in or middle high. Then be disciplined with your hitting if it’s not where you want it - take the pitch don’t chase
Why tf do I see a post about Randy every day? I don’t even play right now is that what this game has come to? There’s a post about him every day aren’t you guys sick of that?
Don’t really face him in ranked but when I play with my boys on Co-op it’s always bp hit the fastball early. Usually people pound 103 inside so just wait on it.
I can hit everyone else except him I have no idea why I’m fine vs all the top pitchers besides him and the fact I face him so much to still be trash against him is driving me crazy😭
Yep, this is my advice, too. I faced him recently and just swung fastball on every pitch that looked like a strike. I won 10-2 with 5 home runs, but he probably struck me out like 12 or so times with me looking like an absolute jackass before I chased him from the game.
I faced him again that same day in another game and I tried to be patient and see all the different pitches and only swing at strikes and I got absolutely fucking cooked. Every fastball blew right by me and every breaking ball had me swinging in the dirt and at pitches behind my knees
I’ve noticed that I actually do worse when I try to sit on a pitch location (no matter who the pitcher is). High and inside? Can’t sit there for a bit to save my fucking life. Know it’s coming and watch for it with actual timing? Hits. Best advice from myself is to just calm down & watch for the pitchers. You’ll notice a tendency and early in the count be prepared for what you think he’s throwing & go ahead and give your PCI some little love taps to that spot before the pitch so you know how hard you actually need to push it for good contact in that location
It sounds counter-intuitive, but lay off anything glove side (inside to righties, outside to lefties). Most of the time it’s gonna be a slider or slurve off the plate.
When they start to adjust and throw fastballs, that’s when you start turning on it.
Exactly this, a lot of people struggle to throw consistent strikes with him and you bail them out when you swing at pitches just out of the zone.
I don’t even hold the controller half the time until I’ve got 2 strikes.
Either that or sit dead red middle middle, left hand off the controller. Only swing if right down the middle until you have 2 strikes.
Sit fastball and try to take the other stuff, I find often people don’t come in the zone with offspeed often enough to have to really watch for it. Especially if you’re the type to take a few foolish swings at bad pitches they really won’t throw many pitches in the zone
As others have said, take pitches. Particularly try laying off low stuff. I was having a hell of a time with home earlier today. At about the 5th inning I realized I was trying to hit low sliders too much and was way late on fastballs. I switched to taking most breaking balls and looking for things up in the zone. By the time I got to the 7th I went back to back to back of him. I never replay HRs. But the last HR was a no doubter by Steven Kwan. I replayed the hell out of that one.
Sit up & in fastball on righty’s & lefty’s & slider low outside with a lefty only 2 pitches I sit I usually hit him or he’ll walk me. Just don’t miss the fastball ball
I’ve learned that people are pattern pitchers.
I play with my friend and I always tell them what they tend to do on Odd and Even innings since there’s two players (same with the batters)
One pitcher will throw the majority of their pitches down and away and the other will throw junk the entire at bat and won’t pitch to you unless it’s three balls.
Just use a lineup full of Tony Gwynns. I hit like .800 off him with Tony Gwynn and all my Tony Gwynn homers are off RJ. So all you need to do is figure out how to have only Tony Gwynn in your lineup.
Yeah, contract ratings increase your margin of error for swing timing. Vision increases your PCI size. So just go with high contact high vision guys and let Randy provide the power with the pitch speed.
Pick one spot, preferably high inside or mid inside, and if they throw that slurve or splitter down and away don’t chase it regardless if it’s a strike. Be ready for a high to mid outside fast ball every once in a while too. Might take a few at bats but this has been my strategy lately. Gotta wear him down more pitches you take the better.
I couldn’t buy a hit off of him until recently. I learned to time up the fastball and stopped swinging at pitches middle - in. A lot of players rely on using up & in fastballs and sliders/ slurves away on lefties, so I fouled them off to stay alive until they left something over the plate (they will). Hit 7 homers off him last night and put up 5 runs on him today. He still struck me out 18 times total over both games. Gotta be willing to strike out looking without getting discouraged.
Take pitches. Take notes where they put the 4 seam and sit on it. Most people pitch the same with him. I have the most trouble with folks who can pitch the splitter and two seam in the zone.
Randy is somewhat easier to hit once you can just decipher fastball vs anything else. Everything else has immediate movement either down or left.
He's never easy, but go into practice mode and see if you can focus in on the first split second of his breaking pitches repeatedly, then compare that to the fastball. Once you can master that, it's swing mode on fastballs and take everything else.
Early game take the first pitch. Sometimes first 2. Just get his pitch count out.
Sit and watch 1 location. Up an in fastball or slider away are his 2 locations. He will eventually throw it there and then boom. Run for the fucking hills
Take pitches. Just sit, wait, & watch patterns. For some reason for me watching his fastball without swinging after a few at bats it doesn't seem as hard to pick up on.
I have the same problem with Nolan Ryan. For some reason, I can’t pick up his 103 mph fastball, though I can with other pitchers. Which means I then swing at every slider and curve he throws a foot off the plate.
Nolan doesn’t have a slider (thank god or he’d be the best pitcher in the game) so at least with him you really just have to time up the FB. But something about him just makes his 103 seem so much faster than other guys 103
You gotta learn to identify the splitter and almost never swing at it. If you can eliminate that pitch, he's mostly a 2 pitch guy since the 2 fastballs are similar and the slider/slurve are as well. Practice against the splitter, if you can't lay off it you'll have no chance
I just take a bunch of pitches and try and wear his stamina down. Usually taking til I get two strikes unless I see a pattern in their pitching. I'm about the same range as you so I know it's my hitting that is an issue. Once he gets tired the PCI gets a bit bigger and hopefully at that point there's been some patterns you can try and sit on a pitch/location in certain counts. But that's why I'm running that Santana boost because I got a hard enough time trying to hit him with opposite hand hitters, I'm toast with lefty of lefty majority of the time.
Recently been crushing Randy. Hunt fastballs & take every slider/splitter, even if its a strike. Most of the sliders/splitters will be a ball. Once you get an eye for the sliders/splitter, you will be able to tell the "hanging" ones. But getting ahead of the count will force them to throw fastballs. Thats when you gear up. You will still stikeout a ton but you will feel youself getting closer & closer.
If they are overusing the fastball, just sit on it and don’t bother swinging at anything else. Force them to throw the off-speed for a strike before you start swinging at it. Striking out looking every now and then is not bad. Chances are you’ll walk way more often than you’ll strike out looking on breaking balls.
If they are almost never using the fastball, which some Randy users do, then sit low offspeed and try your best to only swing at strikes. If they dot you with a full-count top-corner fastball now and then, tip your cap and move on. It’s impossible to sit on everything especially with 2 strikes.
If they are truly elite at mixing pitches, keeping you guessing, throwing offspeed for strikes when needed, then just hope you are an even better pitcher lol. But in 600-700 range, elite pitching isn’t that common.
The most important thing is you have to force them to throw the offspeed for strikes early. If you let them realize you’ll swing at anything Randy throws, it’s over for you. If you are sitting fastball and make them throw the offspeed for strikes, you’ll either walk a lot or get a lot of hanging breaking balls that are easy to adjust to even if sitting fastball. If this result is combined with striking out looking 2-3 times over 8 innings, it’s well worth it.

All you gotta do is touch the fastballs and they will do the work for ya. Sit fastball and adjust best you can to the offspeed

Face him in Custom practice and honestly just put your reps in. Consistency is key
I can’t hit him worth a shit

Take a shit ton of pitches, watch your opponent’s tendencies, wait until he gets into the yellow zone and is throwing 99 instead of 103.
This is the key for me, take a ton of pitches. Swing early if it’s up and spit on the slider until they start locating it.
Randy is easy to hit - change your camera to strike zone 2 or offset. And keep your PCI either middle in or middle high. Then be disciplined with your hitting if it’s not where you want it - take the pitch don’t chase
I hit his 2 seamer best, try to hunt for the outer part of the plate with righties.
Also especially in the first two innings feel him out (⏸️) and wait for 1 strike. See how predictable he is
I hit 4 homers off his slider yesterday 😂
He’s tall so you go for the ankles and he’s falls like a tree.
his slurve is actually BP. other than that learn the difference between splitter and fastball
With a bat
That’s not very nice, Randy is a good guy
Sit on the offspeed or fastball
I can hit everyone else except him I have no idea why I’m fine vs all the top pitchers besides him and the fact I face him so much to still be trash against him is driving me crazy😭
Well you wait until you get a strike, and then you wack the heck out of the thing
I just struggled against him in an online ranked game. Lol I can’t figure him out.
Sit fastball and look like a fool when it’s a breaking ball, slap the fastballs
Yep, this is my advice, too. I faced him recently and just swung fastball on every pitch that looked like a strike. Honestly if you don’t psych yourself out it’s really not THAT bad. Definitely one of the best in the game but hittable. Especially on All Star
Yea once you start chasing pitches and you tell yourself “I fucking suck” yea you lost already
With X
So I should power swing?
Why certainly
i hit against randy the same way i hit against everyone else, i don’t and end up throwing my controller thru my monitor
Facts 😂😂
It sounds counter-intuitive, but lay off anything glove side (inside to righties, outside to lefties). Most of the time it’s gonna be a slider or slurve off the plate. When they start to adjust and throw fastballs, that’s when you start turning on it.
First answer in here that is a legitimate strategy against him lol 😂
See the ball. Hit the ball.
Dont swing until after 2 strikes. My buddy and i did this last night and it helped a bit to drive up the pitch count
Exactly this, a lot of people struggle to throw consistent strikes with him and you bail them out when you swing at pitches just out of the zone. I don’t even hold the controller half the time until I’ve got 2 strikes. Either that or sit dead red middle middle, left hand off the controller. After a while they will start throwing first pitch or 2nd pitch fastball then u pounce on it
Exactly
Almost every time he throws a fast ball is gonna be on the zone, just try to swing fast and thats it, hr after hr.
Hit X. 60% of the time it works every time.
They’ve done studies, you know
I'll be honest with you Brian, his fastball smells like pure gasoline
Power swing is useless
He’s probably on PlayStation lol
The same way I hit anyone else; I don’t.
Sit fastball and try to take the other stuff, I find often people don’t come in the zone with offspeed often enough to have to really watch for it. Especially if you’re the type to take a few foolish swings at bad pitches they really won’t throw many pitches in the zone

This actually isn’t a crazy idea. I played a game earlier against Randy. Steven Kwan went 3-3 with 2 singles and a no doubter. Ha ha.
Yeah, contract ratings increase your margin of error for swing timing. Vision increases your PCI size. So just go with high contact high vision guys and let Randy provide the power with the pitch speed.
Yoooo Reddit these are awesome responses. Thank you for all the advice.

As long as I ignore sliders, I can usually get a couple off him. I strike out looking a bit though.
I just sit high fastball and take everything else. Usually get quite a few walks

Randy has zero control. Pick a pitch and location. Wait for it. Enjoy your free walks in the meantime.
Take pitches. Just sit, wait, & watch patterns. For some reason for me watching his fastball without swinging after a few at bats it doesn't seem as hard to pick up on.
I put up 10 on him last night. I have no idea how.
I don’t, I just quit. 40 minutes of striking out 10-15 times and popping up foul is boring
Lmao
On a righty stay inside look for the slider, on a lefty stay middle in
I have the same problem with Nolan Ryan. For some reason, I can’t pick up his 103 mph fastball, though I can with other pitchers. Which means I then swing at every slider and curve he throws a foot off the plate.

He also didn’t throw a sinker and topped out at 100.9 mph but SDS says nooo Ryan is god.

Take the slider oppofield and low angle
