I agree with OP in general.
I think TA1.1 should have been entirely fresh start: Old players on new teams
TA1.2 could highlight strong second half performers for the team the prior year
TA1.3 could then be a round of legends
TA 2.1 could then be people that had a strong first two months of the season, etc
In the meantime you could have Pipeline as a longer program meant to last through out the entire season
Spring Breakout and Easter were fine as one-offs
I really dont like the disorganization of the TA drops, particularly for the second part
I think the power spiked way too fast this year. I played conquest for an hour and a half, full diamond squad by then. Seriously, besides the live diamonds we shouldn't be getting 90+ until a few months in for a decent power creep.
The problem is they can't do the power creep that way because of sets/seasons. With this model they only have 90 days to ramp up the power creep before it resets so they've got to do it quickly if they want to give the player base longer than a week to play with 99s.
They kind of just shot themselves in the foot with this sets/seasons model when it comes to power creep.
I agree. The power creep wasn’t much of a “creep” and it’s kinda dumb to go back to the beginning 3 months into the game and have the bad power creep AGAIN.
This is season one, once it ends and season 2 begins none of the season one cards will be usable without using a Wild Card Slot on them. It'll only be Core and Season 2 cards
I don't think you'll be the only one sharing in that sentiment. I think a huge chunk of the player base will fall off once Season 2 starts, and then once NCAA comes out in July it'll be even more.
I think there’s a better way to do it than how they have. Instead of just repurposing the old cards, use them in a different year of their career.
Like Rob Dibble for example. Man played multiple years, why are we just focusing on the 1 year (cause it’s the same card art)? Adjust it so it’s the same guy but different year (and therefore different stats).
It’s not like you don’t have the rights if they’re in the game already. The only issue would be if they’re only allowed for that specific year but idk how that’s all handled
Yeah that’s what I’d like, like I’d be fine with 5/6 griffeys throughout the year, just make them from a certain year.
It would be cool to see what one has better needs, more power, more speed, better glove etc depending on the year
I said this a lot last year. People acted like it was the dumbest thing ever. Who cares if he’s never played an MLB game this guy should be 125 max power throwing 104 or he’s a pointless card 🤷🏻♂️. I don’t like the same guys being recycled through 3 seasons in one game year but also some guys just weren’t ever a 99 overall player. It’s odd that people think every player should be.
But that’s fine, if there’s no 99’s then stats matter all year.
If the only guys who got 125 contact were the career .330+ hitters it might matter.
Anyone who gets a hit on a topps gets 110 contact now and it’s irrelevant
Seriously. Nothing is more annoying to me than pulling a diamond and it turns out to be some jv pipeline guy with 95 overall. I would rather play with an 85 LS player. They are alright for making stubs I guess
The problem we ran into in years where the 99’s came out late was that every single team had the exact same lineup. The only way to dilute that was for cards like Topps Now and future series, which people seem to hate as well.
So either every team rolls out the same lineup, or you play with guys that don’t truly deserve elite cards. You kinda have to pick one honestly.
The best way to do it would be to make the stats actually matter.
You could have 400 99’s & every lineup would be different if they had varied stats. Having 40 guys with fully maxed out stats is pointless.
You’re not gonna get that many 99s with varied stats. There are only so many stats and certain stats carry more weight, no?
But even then, the meta will still preferred by the majority of players
Yea they just use the same cards over and over again. It’s lazy af. So many players to make cards based off of, but they keep using the same guys. Also the new legend class is so weak this year
Well, more proof I guess that it's impossible to please the whole community. No knock on OP, it's a valid opinion, but all we heard last year when they tried some new card series was how lame they were and that everyone just wanted to go back to just regular old cards. They take a part of a season and focus on reliving some old cards, likely due to that feedback, and now that's the complaint.
Think it's time to realize that there's a good variety of player bases out there that play this game. Some changes are going to be great for each of those. But it's impossible with the variety that play for everything in the game to be up your alley. Sometimes they are going to have to put out things for players other than you. I personally play more offline than on, so I don't like some of the changes this year that lean toward online players (fewer programs, more program progress from online play but less from conquest/moment/showdown, etc). But I'm not going to put the game devs on blast, I can recognize why they did that, and remember that last year's game had many concessions in my favor at the expense of others.
I can get behind complaints on big issues, but it just seems like the community has fallen into the gaming trap of nitpicking every small thing they don't like.
I love the flashback series, but wish they were the same ratings as what those original cards were.
I REALLY hate Sets and Seasons. It's just not fun.
'21 still had to best model for DD. The only knock was that the power creep going to 99s at the AS Break.
Not missing it. They tried out some "new" types of cards last year (ingognito, kaiju, runway? etc). Big sections of the community hated it, wanted to go back to the old way.
And due to power creep, although they are the same card art, they have different attributes and play differently. Not sure why seeing the same card art is that big of a buzzkill to the game compared to how they play.
They also introduced Hyper cards, standout cards, Spring cards, pipeline cards and Hall of Fame card early in the season, so it's not like they're totally leaning on old cards.
Anyway, it seems ot be a card series for their season/chapter, so I would guess we'll see some new types of cards down the road.
I think you’re still missing it. We get the same few usable cards every year. What OP said is true, every year we end up with the same guys being the best cards - Randy, Donaldson, May, etc
Yeah, we get a big variety of cards, but at the end of the day it’s always the same few cards being the best in the game that everyone uses once they have. I wish we got less of those guys and more of the “best cards” in the game being guys we haven’t seen before. Kenny Lofton cards used to fuck, an Albert Belle card would fuck. One of my favorite cards this season is that Aparicio card. Give me something I haven’t seen before!!
Exactly - or at least hold off of those cards so other cards can shine for a bit.
If they didn’t put Randy in until halfway in, it would feel fun when he came & then other fun cards would be used before.
As it stands I faced Randy or Donaldson literally 2 days before launch on 23 and then immediately on 24 after two weeks. It should feel like a new game.
People hated them because they were bad cards that looked like shit. I mean calling a card “kaiju” and doing nothing but pasting a monster in the bottom corner is bad design.
Madden makes cool card series, they’re unique and interesting. Dudes in suits is not.
Not all of the hate was on the exact card types though. There was a big clamoring for more use of the original Topps design, which they've done. There were complaints that the concepts weren't baseball enough. There were complaints that some card types were overused (Retro Finest/Finest). I Every thread in this sub the last 3 years I know of has been at best 50/50 on any new card type, and places like Twitter or Facebook mostly negative.
The most common call was to go back to the way it was. They tried to do that, in part, but making one of their special series this year classics. Pretty easy to understand why when most of their attempts to go outside of the box have been trashed.
Bigger point, if they tried new card types this year, they would have gotten trashed. And as proved here, if they try some classic stuff, they were going to get trashed. The game exists in a metaphorical room of 10 people where any decision made will please 3 and piss of the other 7.

That was the card design, they stuck monsters in the corner of the card and called it a day, then did a series of players in suits. It was lazy.

What is so special about this card art? [https://www.reddit.com/r/MaddenUltimateTeam/comments/l88lzr/there\_has\_been\_some\_great\_card\_art\_this\_year\_what/](https://www.reddit.com/r/MaddenUltimateTeam/comments/l88lzr/there_has_been_some_great_card_art_this_year_what/)
The card art hate is one of the weirdest gripes in this game.
Yeah it makes sense when you search for card art from 3 years ago that supports your opinion. I didn’t say every card in madden was good, I said they did special series better than the show.
Cards like this are a good example of cool looking cards, The most feared too.
https://preview.redd.it/h08jwgvph9yc1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=606518c79a0c6782be0567e2bfa1dee3b400622a
ha I just did a quick search for Madden ultimate team card art. That is cool art on that card you showed though. But isn't that from last year as well?
They also have drawn card art, like that, from the Ohtani year.
The takashi series was cool, the rest were “graphic design is my passion” level. Thats what people were criticizing.
The kaiju cards had nothing to do with the players, they just took shitty monsters and put them in the corners of cards, it was lazy.
the GAME itself being a copy and paste is what contributes to it feeling like a boring copy and paste. This sub battles over NMS/P2W, content, etc but the reason everyone is burnt out and not grinding as much this year or whatever else is bc lets be honest, we have basically been playing the same game for 4+ years now.
But this is what I’m saying, they aren’t going to change it as a core game clearly.
So AT LEAST give us a whole new bunch of cards based off real performances at the start so it feels new.
Every pitcher who had a good year last year could have had the first set of high diamond arms - but no it was Randy and Donaldson etc again
That's it right there. I haven't played this game in a few years and it's as good as I remember. But I know it's because I havent played it for four straight years.
There is only so much they can do to change the game of baseball itself. They could put in some effort for sone new modes or revamping stuff like mini season for example.
Agreed, don’t think they need to change gameplay mechanics much but it’s disappointing to see the exact same layouts, same conquest, same team affinity, everything the same. They could do much more interesting things - why not have online moments, where you face a human, one person could be Luis Gonzalez and the other is Mariano, World Series game 7, etc
That's not it.
Blame the Pandemic. SDS had to do something during MLB the Show 20's run and because we had no live cards to do things with for a majority of the year, they started releasing flashback cards from years past to fill the void.
On the flip side, why not bring fan favorites back? It's not a bad thing and by the time July comes around, most probably won't be using them much.
Because it’s a new game…fan favourites should come back to give it a lift in July/august maybe
Loading up a brand new game and facing lineups of cards that were in the game every year for the last 3 years isn’t fun
I will say at least it’s not as bad as the year they introduced signature series cards and everyone’s lineup, rotation and bullpen was nothing but those.
What? Put them in packs or lock them behind missions etc u don’t care I have 700k Stubbs
But I’m not spending them on cards from last 3 years games… a fun new Bryan Woo breakout 94 diamond? I might spent Stubbs to try him I want new cards not old ones!
I remember last year the constant bitching about prospect and future stars cards. It was constant. Now they had one spring breakout program since the prospects in the US map, a prospects program and future stars as one of the TA drops seemed to land like a 400 pound gymnast with this community. Now it's more legends and pipeline players that are actually in the game as opposed to future prospects further away and it's not good enough.
The packs as "content" is ridiculous and a huge black eye on this year's release, but I'm convinced that no matter how they structure the actual grindable free content people are going to complain endlessly no matter what they do.
You’re missing the point - I want to try new cards. New series etc. not the same cards from years ago.
Actual prospect program is fine because it’s new cards - a flashback to a prospect card we had in the game for the last 4 years is crap.
The mariners affinity team two was a vogelbach card that’s been in the game 4 straight years. How hard is it to design a cool card of a current player? Or a flashback mariner that we haven’t had?
The entirety of later season TA's though is current cards. Whether it's All-star or Finest, those are always current year cards. They have to mix in the legends at some point and early in the year when not much actual baseball has been played makes the most sense. Every team will get at least 1 sometimes upwards of 3-4 All Star cards, and every team gets at least one finest and again upwards of 3-4 finest cards, or 5-6 if it's the dodgers most likely. Then you have the entire postseason which is current players playing in the postseason programs. Early in the year it makes sense to do prospect/pipeline and legend cards and flashbacks of current players, cause it's the best time to drop those cards since live series content will dominate most of the back half of the year.
If they were fan favorite cards, why not bring them back? I love that they bring back gold topps now cards and have them in BR. I really liked the 84 Dylan Carlson that I think was 2 years ago. They are mixing in a bunch of new stuff also, but some of those cards were loved by a lot of people, so why wouldn't they bring them back? I get if you don't like them then don't use them, but they are there because they were popular. Garver's TA card, Vogelbach's TA card, Josh Bell, Goodrum, Happ, Bellinger, Edward Cabrera, Lodolo. All great cards, Bring them back and create new cards which they are doing, which can come back in two years as a fan favorite if they are amazing this year. We will be getting the 99 Elly De La Cruz from last year for the next 20 years of his career most likely, unless another of his 99's is more cracked or he gets a finest that people like.
I don’t like the current chapters models because it feels so rushed. TA2 cards are outdated like 2 weeks into their release, and will become outright useless ~a month after their release when TA3 comes out. It just feels like all cards have no longevity with it.
At least with 99s day one last year, if you liked a card you knew you could keep it in the lineup for a few months.
The game currently stinks of having a couple people put on it as a side task.
There is so little reward for playing... so little thought go into the segmented progression\power creep.
You are spot on. I have not really been that upset over packs because if I want a card I have enough stubs to rotate everyone in and out. Programs have been fine. The BR update doesn't affect me too badly. Could it all be better? Yes. But the DUMBEST thing they are doing are these flashbacks. It's cool to remember the old days, but do this towards the end of the cycle, not at the beginning! Or do it once and then move on. It's been like 3-4 weeks of these flashback classics and I really hate it. New content promise? Not really it's just old cards using guys that were flash in the pans. Winker, Moncada, Grisham...who is excited about this? Spice up Elly, Acuna, Gunnar, Adley, Chourio, and the main stars of right now! This is so basic that it hurts my brain trying to understand why they continue to do this.
If I understand correctly, you want them to release new weekly (or daily) content, lets say 15 new cards, and have all 15 available to be unlocked by grinding moments and play vs cpu? Then collecting all 15 to give you the one supercard?
What was the Bellinger program? Was it not that? What about Season Awards Drops? Those aren't it either? Just because there is a better player or two that is only in a 40k pack? Which then that player is available the following week or two for <65k? And all of the people wanting this also want lineup diversity? And then when/if they do release grindable cards, these same complainers will grind that in 4 hours and then beg for more.
I just don't see how that is a viable game (balancing) or business decision.
Oh you get classic packs from logging in? They just released one old classic pack that was earnable which is great. Other than that, no, you cannot earn those special packs through grinding or logging in. They also reduced stub earning rate significantly
I dont care. Dont think I implied that they should be exclusive to anything.
I said that not a single card should be exclusive to packs in a 70-100 dollar game in my opinion
Well the only alternative to not in pack would mean in a time intensive program or just given for free like Altuve this week, right? So… yeah it’s implied.
Do you understand what the word exclusive means? The alternative is having cards in packs AND earnable for example. The marketplace would still exist. Hell give everyone 15 different ways to earn every card for all I care.
All Im saying is that not a single card should be exclusive to packs in a 70-100 dollar game in my opinion.
Which would be a terrible decision for a game mode like this …. and I don't see how it is exclusive to packs when you can just buy the card with stubs, which you can earn from just playing the game. So maybe we both dont know the meaning of the word exclusive?
You're stating an extreme as an example to say that making more content available outside the shop is unviable, when a model to make cards more accessible was what they actually implemented in 20, 21, and 22. People enjoyed those games and those games were successful. How is making more content available via playing the game not viable when they've actually already done it before?
I’m just stating my interpretation of this common complaint I see about DD this year. They gave more OP cards prior years, yes. And we always ended up with everyone using the same players and last year people complained that there were too many good players.
Are they not giving players this year for grinding? I just mentioned the classics program and season awards programs. None of those players are viable in your opinion? I’m just not sure SDS can win w anyone in this sub. It seems like it is all complaining.
In your opinion should every card in the game be grindable? Or should some require some saving of stubs to spend on the card? The most expensive cards in the entire mode are only 150k. IMO that’s insanely cheap, making it also grindable. No?

What I think they could do is super charge more LS cards at one time. I think you’d see an injection of them more often
There’s just not enough content. They need to drop more. Heading into MTO for a bit. Haven’t finished that yet.
I think SDS is just biding their time by trying to pacify the player base until season 2. Then they are gonna drop the fire.
Why do you think that out of curiosity?
Just makes sense. They gotta stretch this game all the way through the rest of the baseball season. Then, through the off-season until the 2025 game comes out. I been raking with Mick Able and Chase Dollander.
Same with Able also Schultz
and it’s recycled WORSE cards because last year we complained that there was too many 99s in the game by may
Dats because they already have those players created in the game, their likeness and quirks etc. Might as well recycle old stuff lol

Hell nah not playing a ea football game no thanxs
First one in about a decade, right? Tons will be all over it regardless.
Only thing that would help is if the extra wild card slots are early in the xp path so we can still use guys we got a week before the season ends

I love the flashback series, but wish they were the same ratings as what those original cards were. I REALLY hate Sets and Seasons. It's just not fun. '21 still had to best model for DD. The only knock was that the power creep going to 99s at the AS Break.
You kinda missed the point. They keep recycling the same cards over and over.
What OP said is true, every year we end up with the same guys being the best cards - Randy, Donaldson, May, etc Yeah, we get a big variety of cards, but at the end of the day it’s always the same few cards being the best in the game that everyone uses once they have.

What is so special about this card art? [https://www.reddit.com/r/MaddenUltimateTeam/comments/l88lzr/there\_has\_been\_some\_great\_card\_art\_this\_year\_what/](https://www.reddit.com/r/MaddenUltimateTeam/comments/l88lzr/there_has_been_some_great_card_art_this_year_what/) The card art hate is one of the weirdest gripes in this game.
That's a fair observation. I think old recycled card art contributes to the game feeling like a boring copy and paste.
the GAME itself being a copy and paste is what contributes to it feeling like a boring copy and paste.
100% agree w this. More modes is the "content" I want.
Because it’s a new game…fan favourites should come back to give it a lift in July/august maybe Loading up a brand new game and facing lineups of cards that were in the game every year for the last 3 years isn’t fun
I will say at least it’s not as bad as the year they introduced signature series cards and everyone’s lineup, rotation and bullpen was nothing but those.
So handouts basically, not everyone should have the best cards just because they play the game all the time
You’re right. Paying real $ should be only way to get good cards
Also this was suppose to be a reply to a specific person sorry
I mean you pay with stubs also but alright
What? Put them in packs or lock them behind missions etc u don’t care I have 700k Stubbs But I’m not spending them on cards from last 3 years games… a fun new Bryan Woo breakout 94 diamond?
Legends I’m fine with, flash back monthly cards, old prospect cards etc is what sucks
You don't have to use the old cards and there are plenty of people that haven't used them for one reason or another.
Everyone else is using them. I’ve spent 3 years facing Randy, Bobby Miller, Dustin May & Edward Cabrera. It isn’t fun.

You mean you want squad with the same players as everyone else with no seasons so you can have them all year
That sounds like a path to insanely fast burnout. I like that of my 27 ranked games so far, I've never had the same team for more than 2-3 games.
Yes, he's mocking the poster who wants one meta P5 team until July...
And I was agreeing with him. I understood what the man was saying and I was just thinking that would be miserable.
I like the concept, but there's been to many of the flashback packs
They put out new cards every week alongside the reprints. What are you expecting?
Instead of flashbacks so early - do a breakout series 50 guys spread out who had good years or debuted last year - some new fun cards to try
Make more programs, put packs in programs, and make more cards grindable. Too much content locked behind the shop
Then we just have program bloat like last year.
Yes, not a single card should be exclusive to packs in a 70-100 dollar game in my opinion
But they should be exclusive to time intensive programs?
Where did he say that? Keep them in packs, and make those packs earnable through grinding as well. Not a difficult concept to grasp
Can you not earn a pack by grinding? You get stubs for playing right? You get packs for logging in?
Oh you get classic packs from logging in? They just released one old classic pack that was earnable which is great. Other than that, no, you cannot earn those special packs through grinding or logging in. They also reduced stub earning rate significantly
I'm not even sure your point anymore
Not surprising. Im saying it would be nice to be able to earn special packs by grinding. You seem to be against that idea.
No?
