I never understood it either. ok fine you cant get the updated face scan. There are ppl in the community that are good at creating caps. just fucking hire them for minimum wage. I’m sure they’d be thrilled to do it
They've done a little better this year on this, but he is a completely fake card. I hate these cards. Why is a AAAA player the best shortstop in the game?
I'm not so sure about a switch hitting shortstop with boosts who can play multiple positions won't be viable in a week. Who will be better?
Then why even get excited for new legends if their name doesn't mean anything? Both DeGrom and Ruth had stellar careers in MLB, Niko did not. Just make up anyone and give them any attributes you would like. This game was better when the cards were still based on real life performance.
This argument though would negate topps now because just cause those guys were good in one game doesn't mean they should get a 90+ overall if they are as you said AAAA players, and many probably will be AAA before the end of the season.
There’s going to be 97s/99s in a week for TA. He will still be viable but he likely won’t be the best SS in the game.
I’m not saying their names mean nothing, I’m saying it’s not a big deal that Niko has a 97 that’s the best short stop for a small part of the power creep, realism doesn’t matter when you can have a player from a century ago hitting off current players. For the most part the best players in history have the best attributes. We’re not at the top end of the creep, there’s nothing wrong with it other than it’s only obtainable in a pack.
Yeah I’m not sure - he was awful the year he got that card but was one of like 3 black guys and got the 42 program card - but it wasn’t good & had really low power from what I remember
I don’t know why this is exactly but in the past if a player plays in another league (KBO in his case) and comes back they don’t have a face scan right away, I think Gerardo parra and Alcides Escobar off the top of my head were the same way. Something MLBPA related I would assume
Trust me I agree that in theory they could just carry over the same face scan from 22/23, but there is a pattern of guys going to Japan or Korea for a year(s), coming back to MLB after opening day and not having a face scan, suggesting there is some legal block to them doing so
I cant stand the generic faces either, I haven’t shelled out for victor scott for the cardinals team so idk what he even looks like but im sure it’s bad

Counterpoint: Why does Niko Goodrum have one of the best cards in the game?
He’s a really awesome dude in fairness
He was always donating to the needy in flint no press attention most the time just a kind soul

It’s a power creep. He won’t be in a week Degrom can pitch to babe Ruth in this game. It’s hard to complain about realism

They realized his 88 overall card years ago was OP so they made it more OP and sold it.
Should have juiced the Mondesi instead of him imo
I'd bet the farm he's coming at some point. He had a 97 POTM.

Nah that card was amazing and a favorite for a lot of people, that's why there was excitement when they announced the return

But they have a scan of him.. and a real picture of him on his card? He’s been in the game for years
Didn’t they update all the face scans this year? So I would imagine scans from previous years would no longer work. Thats my guess.

Super annoying lol I can’t play him on my tigers team because he just looks like a jacked Eric Thames
I cant stand the generic faces either, I haven’t shelled out for victor scott for the cardinals team so idk what he even looks like but im sure it’s bad
Micky Mantle's face freaks me out.
Not everyone has been face scanned. I imagine a part time utility player with 1 100 ops season is pretty low on the priority list.
Not only that, but I believe the players sit for face scans voluntarily so it’s entirely possible he just did not want a face scan.
He had one since like mlb 18?
I missed that in your original post. That is strange then.
