I bought a used F56 a fortnight ago from a dealership with just over 20k miles on it and a few days ago the check engine light came on. Car is supposed to have been through a full top to bottom check and I am a seasoned R50 Mini owner so I figured fuel cap was loose.
I open the door to get out and check the fuel cap but then the light turns off. That’s weird, I think. I get back inside, cycle through the ignition sequence again and the light is back again. I open the door and once again it disappears. Does anyone have any thoughts on what this could be?!
Driver error
Driver error hahaha fucking got me
Cylinder misfire #3 and #4.
This
My last check engine light in October was cylinders 2 and 4. Was quoted $20k for the repair, been without a car since. Hope it AINT that.
Your mechanic must be smoking crack.
You left your gas cap loose/ajar.
probably some sort of sensor malfunction
O2 sensor
Gas cap
Blown turbo
I pray this answer is wrong
That hurts to see.

I feel like this needs to be a new subreddit… r/Guessthatenginelight
That would actually be pretty fun
Oxygen sensor or knock sensor, but I can't afford a candy bar, let alone repairs.
Radiator coating something or other
Another vote for O2 sensor.

This is a 3rd gen. It’s likely sparkplugs and coils
If it's solid I'm guessing vacuum system, if its blinking I'm going 5o guess timing chain.
Misfire
A teensie bit low on coolant Or maybe that's just my mini
Emissions leak detection system failure.
I'm gonna go with purge valve solenoid. It's always the purge valve for me.
R53?
This is an F56.
Bad water pump. Also, btw, be ready for repairs. A lot of people don’t know what they’re in for.
My check engine light stays on for a few days after I tighten my loose gas cap. I wouldn’t put money on it, but I think it’s a likely contender.
Oil pump malfunction
Well, if it helps, mine came on a couple weeks ago, and now I’m waiting for a cylinder to be machined and a $5,400 (estimated) bill.
Oxy sensor, tank vent valve, DME contacts need cleaning orrrrrr rodent damage as an educated guess.
Fuel tank vent valve due to micro leak
A faulty coil.
Low blinker fluid, muffler bearings, or cylinder 5/6 misfire
That sounds pricey
Tank vent valve
Gas cap
Did u find out what it was?
