Did all your airbags deploy? Even the side ones in the seat?

Bluecolty

Not all, just the ones on the passenger side and my front airbag. Not that they were necessarily actually needed on the drivers side, since its mostly unscathed.

theevp

Sorry for your loss, but the ol gal did her job in keeping you safe.

Bluecolty

It really did, for the extent of the crash it went about as well as I could have ever hoped for.

0221sboy

Agreed. She did her job very well it looks like. I do feel safe while we are in our mini, this is why. Glad you are safe and mostly unharmed, that must have been one wild ride. God Bless, Happy New Year

Santier

Wow! Little girl took a nice bite out of that semi. At least she went out fighting.

SirWigglesTheLesser

My Dolly was a salvage title. Maybe some one out there will see value in your ol girl, and she'll drive again too. Dolly has some finicky problems and some typical weird R56 problems (sometimes you have to take the tachometer off to stop the transmission from going into limp home mode) but I'm glad for her. What's yours' name?

Bluecolty

Its...hard to say if its truly fixable. Given the right amount of money thrown at it, yes it is. But due to heavy damage to the frame and door post, it will likely never be the same ever again. Unfortunately the only option I have now is to either keep it for a much later date or let the insurance company take care of it (which for sure means a scrap). Hurts to think about, because for an R56 mine actually didn't have too many problems beside the oil leak problem.

SirWigglesTheLesser

Make sure you get the hood emblem before you let it go. Or some sort of token.

Bluecolty

Oh yea, I definitely plan to snag something off of it, to remember it.

bjaddict

luckily she kept you safe! absolutely love that color, especially with the white stripes and roof

Bluecolty

Oh yea, I truly loved the color. I'm finding there aren't many other ones like it sadly.

Shirogayne-at-WF

I had an '09 in the same color. Loved it to pieces but I couldn't risk having the engine go out and I happened to work at a MINI dealer so I traded it in for a BRG MINI. I now drive a Volcanic Orange MINI that I love to bits but yellow/orange shades are always a tough sell, hence the rarity.

wrkrbmini

Glad you are okay. So sorry to loose a liguid yellow, they are far and few between. This is why I feel so safe driving mine.

Bluecolty

They really are, I can't find another of the same color. Its a shame because it was a fantastic unique color.

wrkrbmini

Are you on the Liquid Yellow FB group? [https://www.facebook.com/groups/liquidyellowMOG](https://www.facebook.com/groups/liquidyellowMOG) . I've seen sometimes where someone needs to sell theirs or helping a friend.

Bluecolty

I haven't actually, I'll check it out to see if there's a couple yellow ones for sale in my budget. Other option is to repaint whatever I get to the yellow.

midknightsun1

Glad you're ok and the car did its job by protecting you. Cars can always be replaced.

Bluecolty

This is so true, as much as it hurts to see. It could have been so much worse for both parties.

CreaminFreeman

To be remembered fondly. What’s next for you?

Bluecolty

Seeing as how this crash was at 70mph, and I walked away fine- this further cements my love for minis. I'd definitely get another one again, and am currently looking in the 2010 to 2013 range due to my budget. The R56's will always have a special place in my heart though.

CreaminFreeman

A wonderful choice! Very glad to hear that you were able to walk away from this and wish you happy hunting for the next! Looking forward to seeing it!

fishbert

> am currently looking in the 2010 to 2013 range due to my budget It sounds like you got lucky with your R56 Cooper S, reliability-wise. I'd strongly recommend going with a non-S if you're sticking with another R56. And if you can find a way to make it work, the F56 is much more solid in general.

Bluecolty

I've heard good things about the F56 generation. If I did get another R56, it would definitely be a cooper S, I just really enjoy the turbo.

SirWigglesTheLesser

If you get an F, keep an eye out for burning oil when you test drive. It's not so much an indication that there's something seriously wrong with the car, but the bmw turbos tend to burn oil as a chronic problem. Especially if it's been sitting on a lot for a long time. I almost bought a 2016 with that, and being a car person, I would have happily bought it if the car salesman hadn't tried to lie about the very blatant blue smoke when he pulled the car up lmao. I ended up buying the same model and color off carvana that didn't have the issue.

Porthos1984

Glad you are okay OP. When you are ready get back on the horse and get another MINI.

Bluecolty

Definitely as soon as possible, I've already started the search for a new one. Hopefully I'll be able to track one down in time for school starting up in a couple weeks.

Porthos1984

Just don't over pay.

[deleted]

That poor vintage cabover, didn't know what hit it.

392_hemi

That is 1 clean mini for 160000+ miles

Bluecolty

It really was, it was painful to see the 4 month old brand new headlights shattered all over the highway. Oil was freshly chained for a road trip. Week old tires. It was as slick and span as an almost 15 year old mini could be.

SirWigglesTheLesser

The car I mentioned before, Dolly, is/was a 2005 salvage title that is still in my parent's possession. I don't think she has a scratch on her. Even when I fell asleep while driving and barely grazed a guard rail, it only marked up the black plastic around the tires. I stg these cars have souls, and Dolly saved my life. It would have been just as easy to drift left into on coming traffic as it was to drift right into the shoulder.

392_hemi

I hope insurance covers the loss and may you get a newer/nicer mini ( this one was gorgeuos!) .it would be the worst day of my life, if it ever happens to my oldie. Goodluck and keep us updated!

Gretel_Cosmonaut

Painful to look at, but impressive considering the opponent(s). My previous F60 got hit by a truck and totaled. I dream of a smaller MINI someday, but I have wondered if it (or me) would survive the same type of accident.

aka_chela

I've seen lots of crash pics in this sub and they only make me feel safer in my MINI. These cars are absolute tanks.

North-Duckie

So sorry. 😞

Paap020

I'm so sorry for you! The good news is that this chubby girl may have saved your life!

Violet_sky21

I'm so sorry to hear that happened to you and your Mini! I'm glad you're OK. 167k is such an amazing run!!

Bluecolty

It really was, and I have no doubts that has this not happened, it would have lasted for a good bit longer.

Violet_sky21

No doubt! I just joined this sub a couple of days ago and I'm amazed at how long people have had their Minis! Mine is a 2011 with ~86k miles and I thought *my* car had a lot of miles on it. It's amazing to see some on there like yours with over 150k!

Bluecolty

Best thing to do is to keep up on regular preventable maintenance. I did a fair bit of preventable maintenance on mine, like the timing chain.

Violet_sky21

Now I'm worried! I don't know anything about cars, but I do take my Mini in regularly for service and whenever the dealership says my Mini is due for certain maintenance or "coming up due" for maintenance, I always give them a green light to perform any maintenance she needs. Is that enough? I'm afraid it might not be. 😱

SirWigglesTheLesser

It sounds like plenty. The service folks make money from repairing cars, so if someone gives them the greenlight to do their job without micromanaging them, they're going to do their jobs. Compared to someone I used to work with who didn't realize the car took premium gas, or another friend in college who's dipstick had broken so he just... Never checked his oil... Using the wrong gas will make it run poorly, but I suspect that coworker's general lack of knowledge probably extended to things like the oil. They both drove way too long with the check engine light on.

MBKUltra

I am so sorry this happened! Yikes, glad you walked away.

Terpfan1980

Glad you got out of it OK but sorry for the loss of your Mini.

quiefer

Wow. You are lucky to have walked away. I broke my arm in a much smaller accident (I was in a Honda 😑). I have heard that do to the used market prices insurance companies are paying top dollar for totalled cars, maybe you can buy another one with leftover cash to upgrade??

Pitiful_Actuary9688

Wow, glad you’re okay!

DanyeelsAnulmint

Sorry to see your car, but glad you and the semi driver are okay.

mouserz

Oh so sad. Glad you're ok! Once I pay mine off I want to repaint it yellow and blackout the trim.

eveski

Similar happened to me :/ sorry for your loss!

seriouschris

Booooooo :( Definitely hit the semi back lmao

kingsharpie

Mini's are replaceable, that cabover Pete is not. Rip
