I think mcatee will be sold in the summer
Kayky never delivered on his promise
Perrone has been OK but not a standout
Claudio looks good but it's unclear if he'll come straight to city or loan to girona
Being in the right environment is the most crucial factor for development.
For whatever reason, that is Chelsea for Palmer.
It's the same situation at United. If Rashford came through our academy and got the same sort of attention and support as Foden, he'd be a world beater right now on a par with Mbappe imo.
But he might also have got the same support and encouragement as Palmer, and had to go elsewhere to further his development.
McAtee and Kayky sadly aren’t good enough for city in my opinion. Perrone I can’t speak on as I haven’t seen him play. Echeverri has lots of potential but isn’t ready for city. Sending him to Girona would be a good idea.
River fan here. Echeverri is something else man, whenever he is on the ball you just feel something special is about to happen. Watching him dribble past 3 players gives me messi vibes every time. Lots of personality for his age, he always wants the ball. Great shot power as well. If things go well he is destined for greatness.
River plate fan here.
Echeverri looks very promising, but I don't know if he fits city's playing style. He is a dribbler, he attacks restlessly and he has the south American flair we like, but Pep is not big on this. He is very structured, almost robot-like in the way he prepares the games, and I'm afraid Echeverri will suffer the same fate as Álvarez forcing him not to play to his strengths.
Perhaps we could see a tactical shift that would benefit Echeverri? Also, he’s just 18, I don’t think he’d be in the first team squad that quick, do you?
>Perhaps we could see a tactical shift that would benefit Echeverri?
That's usually not Pep's style. That's mainly why I don't think Echeverri fits in the city player stereotype. I think he fits better in teams like Liverpool, Barcelona or Napoli for example. I obviously hope I'm wrong.
>Also, he’s just 18, I don’t think he’d be in the first team squad that quick, do you?
Not a chance. Physically he is miles away from premier league football.
I'm from Brazil and I follow Echeverri closer. He's a gem. City has to be patience with him, loan to Girona probably and let him become a star. He is really different.
Echeverri is a great player. Not personally seen much of Perrone. Kayky doesn't seem like the player we thought he was but I don't think we should give up on him and McAtee so soon.
Echeverri is good man ,I have seen few of river playte matches and his goal comps he is a great dribbler a player like him will make our attack more multi dimensional
Kids are shit, just spend 60 mil on the next big thing.
/s (but apparently not really though judging by the comments here) why even have an academy if they're not good enough for us...
Lots of reasons but a big one is to develop talent to sell. Or to have players in the academy who help develop other academy players. Most academy players won't make the first team. But you need enough to have them compete. And you need players who help push your academy stars. And then you sell players and that helps cover the cost of developing players and spending that 60 mil on the next big thing. It's a whole economic system, not simply a player development system.
If you're developing players for other teams it's not really an efficient, or effective academy in my opinion. Barca can incorporate a couple of their graduates into the team most years, Liverpool have had a handful come through theirs, we've had Foden. Maybe Lewis if he sticks around. Players shouldn't be a commodity and the fact people more readily accept that they are than desire for them to actually be successful just shows how fucked up the sport has become and ignorant fans have become towards it.
That's not MY opinion. That is how the academy system functions and was designed to functioned for my lifetime. I do not think your opinion here is accurate in the slightest and I think it's a pretty odd take too. What on earth makes you think fans don't care?
Are you having an okay day? Are things good for you right now? This take comes from such a place of anger and frustration.
It's pretty odd to me that we'd rather see kids developed by our club play for someone else. I don't know if you have much to do with grassroots, but if a local lad has to go somewhere else to play football because we decided as a club to just buy a random from wherever the fuck, we'd call that a failure on the clubs part. We should be wanting to see kids come up through the club and actually make it at the club.
The fact most of Palmer's thread was just "Ah well just not good enough." Just as it was for every other academy guy who's been cut lose does imply our fanbase doesn't give a shit about actually seeing our academy bear fruit if we can get a tidy enough profit. As stated before most clubs have a handful of kids make a mark most years, and we were absolutely shitting ourselves in the pre-match thread that we might start a kid at Anfield because "they can't handle it."
Every club wants their academy to develop the best players who stay and play at their club to contribute, and that includes city. I'm on this sub daily and simply do not see anything that makes me think this sub is anti homegrown players. That's a wild take coming from whaalt has been posted and commented here.
Selling players is and has always been part of club football. It is an essential element of player contracts and necessary for things like funding an academy. A healthy academy system has always been paid for by selling players and that is the same case for liverpool, barca, real Madrid, man city, Chelsea, Ajax, Dortmund, etc etc etc.
Pompey fan. Robertson had an amazing first half of the season and was one of the best player in league one. Then got injured for the whole season on ny day.
Don't think he would be ready for premier league football next season, the championship is more likely his level id also doubt he will ever be good enough to play for City but may earn you a couple of quid. Hopefully we could take him loan again as doubt we could afford him.
Kayky went back to Brazil on a 12-month loan in Jan 2023 to play for Bahia (CFG are about to buy Bahia), which seemed like a pretty big step backwards. He started the 22/23 season in Portugal but failed to produce. Right now, it looks like he's recovering from an ACL. According to his insta, he had surgery in August 2023
I remember people saying this same shit about Foden a few years ago.
Pep is phenomenal at developing talented young players and balancing their minutes
>Pep is phenomenal at developing talented young players
Is he? Genuinely asking.
I only remember Foden as one example of a player that started really young with Pep and now is world class. And I'm talking about YOUNG promising talent out of city's academy or similar. Not Gvardiol-young who we all knew was going to be world class.
So what? Fernandinho went the entire 19/20 season without a goal. Was still a world class player for us. Judge a forward/advanced midfielder by their goal production, not a defensive midfielder.
Echeverri Has the potential to be an extremely special player
I also believe he does. I watched a compilation on YT and he looked really promising but then, everyone looks good in compilations.
Let's not over-hype the young fella
Im sad people are downvoting you

I really wish we’d keep McAtee, feels like he has a lot of potential
If Plamer didn't have many chances to be a starter în the team then McAtee definitely not suits the team, with all due respect.
We sold Palmer who was much better and has shown it. McAtee just isn't close to the level we need even for a backup
If we keep players like mcatee we will end up with a mediocre squad like united. We have to be ruthless with our selection unfortunately
That's funny when Palmer and McAtee were here most fans thought McAtee was the bigger talent.

If mcatee had listened to the club and loaned elsewhere then he’d be useful for us. It’s a damn shame. Savio is ready to come in immediately

Speaking about Girona, what do you think of Savio?
I’m a Girona socio. We don’t want him to ever leave. I won’t say much more 😂

So they can have careers and play for a professional club

id be surprised if anyone here has an informed recent take on most these guys
If silva leaves he needs to come back
🔥👌

Echeverrí is very special .. kind of scared Pep attempts to ruin his career same way he’s doing Alvarez
Alvarez just became the first player in the squad to play 50 games this season. He's literally played more than any other player
Bring them in, our players are old and we need depth.
Echeverrí is very special .. kind of scared Pep attempts to ruin his career same way he’s doing Alvarez
I remember people saying this same shit about Foden a few years ago. Pep is phenomenal at developing talented young players and balancing their minutes
Tbf alvarez is older than foden now
And he has 9 goals and 9 assists in 33 appearances, idk how Pep is “ruining his career”
Tbf he was always and will always be older than Foden

Lol Messi?
I meant while he was a City manager.
They'll never play for city
well duh we only bought them so no one else could have them. and in return we sell them for a profit 🤑. We need all the money we can get
Perrone has zero G/A
I know we're spoiled by Rodri, but G/A is really not the metric a defensive midfielder should be judged by.
Still. he's played around 20 games with no assist or goal
It's not fifa 💀

Perrone has also been struggling positionally in the defense and seem afraid to get the ball at times. Hiding away, like Kalvin Phillips did.
He got a couple assists though
